Brand new Redmi Note 7 Pro.. wifi and mobile network don't work. - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro Questions & Answers

So I've owned a couple note 4's and currently have a note 5 pro which all work perfect. But I bought a note 7 pro (global rom) for my wife and it doesn't seem to find my routers (either of them) nor does it connect to a mobile network via the sim.
Sometimes it will find a wifi network out of the blue and will connect to it, but it will get stuck in a cycle of connecting and disconnecting. The same for the sim card (though it doesn't connect to anything, it just appears to try). I can see the sim pop up in the settings but disappear then reappear and so on.
So far it's a paper weight. Google searching solutions renders nothing helpful.
I've reset the network options, factory reset the phone, turned it off and on, restarted it, changed my wifi encryption, wifi band and a different sim. Nothing works.
Do I just count this a broken device and send it back? That's even if the aliexpress store will accept it...
I don't think I can flash another rom since I have no network to unlock it.
Oh also, what's this "violet" variant I see quoted everywhere here?

try this

its free and you can change roms without unlocking bootloader but the options are very limited for locked bootloader.
you can change stable to developer, vice versa but this will change firmware files and may help you.

Yeah I can't downgrade as it gives me a message to unlock the bootloader. "Current version is illegal, onl allowed to flash the latest stable version" - "Couldn't verify, Looks like the ROM's secure-patch version is lower than the current version."
It only allows me to flash the same version, which doesn't fix anything.
I guess back to the seller on aliexpress it goes :/

Look here for the right rom for the recovery mode

Thanks for the help, but Miui 10 only allows flashing of current or newer roms if the bootloader isn't unlocked. I'm on the latest.

Device issue it seems

No response from Hong Kong Goldway as of yet... It's been 3 days since notifying them.

Well it turns out it's going to cost at least $100usd to send the phone back due to it having a lithium battery. I've updated to Miui 11 and still the same issue. So it must be hardware. I guess I'll toss it in the trash, which is a shame as its perfectly functioning otherwise.

Check if will they cover it after find the problem.
Otherwise, a MI center on your city or watch videos to open it and fix it by yourself.
Redmi Note 7 Pro | Tapatalk

Yeah Mi center can't help. I'm having a big headache with HK Goldway. I would really suggest people have second thoughts about ordering from them given my experience. Granted, I've had 3 phones that are fine from them, but if anything goes wrong... well now I see it's not worth the risk.

Thanks for contacting AliExpress! I hope you are having a good day.

How To Sim Unlock The SM-G360T1

Before I get into it, let me just start by saying that I have spoken to MetroPCS and they have confirmed that this phone was specifically set up to use the "Device Unlock" app ONLY, which means that there are no unlock codes or any other procedures(not Chimera or any other one) that will unlock this device.
For those of you who don't know too, you MUST wait until after 90 days of service with MetroPCS on this device before you can unlock it. If you can't wait the 90 days, however, because you're going to travel or because you live outside of the country, I've been told that there is one other way to unlock this device through a third party service that works with MetroPCS and helps you unlock through the app as well, though it is more like "IMEI whitelisting" than an official unlock like you get with MetroPCS and you also have to pay.
---------------
Anyhow, now to get down to it. Here is the information on what you must do.
---------------
1) Wait The 90 Days - Actually, you should know first that MetroPCS does not count the extra day in the months with 31 days as part of the 90.[/B] In other words, if you bought your phone on the 10th of one month say, you have to wait for the 10th to come around again 3 months later.
2) Try Unlocking The Device - Go to the "Device Unlock" app in your app tray and try clicking on the "Permanent Unlock" button to see if it just works for you right away. I was not so lucky myself, but I've been told that it does simply just unlock for some people. If it did unlock that easily for you, then congratulations. That's it. You're done.
(NOTE: Make sure that it is actually unlocked though. See the attached images and step #4 below.)
---------------
If it still isn't unlocked after steps 1 & 2, then please read on...
---------------
3) Call MetroPCS - If it won't unlock, then MetroPCS may have placed a server side lock on your account for whatever reason. In this case, you will need to just call Metro and request that they go into their system and set "Allow Unlock" to "ON" for your device. It only takes them a few seconds to do, but the first 3 people I called some days before didn't even mention or seem to know that their system had this feature, so you have to ask. After they did this for me I was able to successfully unlock the device using the app.
4) Double Check That Your Device Is Actually Unlocked - After unlocking the device the app says that the "Device Is Permanently Unlocked"[/B] and prompts you to reboot. After rebooting though I recommend that you open the "Device Unlock" app again and make sure that it no longer contains the reboot menu(shown in the first picture attached below). If it keeps saying to reboot because the settings are not yet applied, then you are still not unlocked. You want it to look like the second picture I attached below and NOT the first. Try rebooting a few more times to see if this problem fixes itself.
(NOTE: If you still can't unlock fully and have rooted the device and have TWRP and the Xposed framework installed, then you can also try installing an Xposed module called "Good For Enterprise Disable Root Check" to see if that allows the unlock settings to apply. Otherwise just call Metro again to make sure you are unlocked.)
Anyhow, I sincerely hope this information helps you guys in unlocking your device!

Thanks for the input. I don't know much about boxes or how they might bypass MetroPCS's server side lockdown on this device, but I'm assuming they're some sort of universal hacker tool that you hook phones up to and that you have to buy. Probably not a viable solution for most people. Sounds just sketchy enough too to maybe cause your phone's IMEI to get blacklisted. Perhaps there's no other option for those outside of the country who can't get MetroPCS service though? I don't know. :/
Outside US or if you dont want to pay 3 months of 50$ each (i like metro pcs, and use metropcs when in usa, but mostly im away and rather to pay an unlock to mantain the line) You have to pay an imei whitelisting for unlock device app. I found one 100% working for 24$, many cheaper or expensive were suspicious. PM if you want to know

It's only $40/month for me. I understand though if you're out of the country. Awesome that they'll let you pay to unlock it. Still have to use the device unlock app though yes. It's the only way. Thanks for the info!

Hmm, I have never needed to know this type of info, so I do not know what Sim Unlock is.
Could you explain please?
Thank you,

EDIT: So after a quick google search it is fairly obvious what it is.
So all I have to do is wait 90 days, then call them asking for them to unlock my device, then run Device Unlock and my device will be unlocked?

Yeah, it's awesome! After the unlock you can switch your phone to any service provider, but best if all you can use temporary international sim cards if you ever go outside the country and have regular service elsewhere while you travel and just put your MetroPCS account on hold in the meantime. Right now you can not though. Just wait the 90 days and just use the Device Unlock app that should be in your phone after that. If it doesn't work after 90 days of continuous service on this phone, then you do have to call them though and ask them to allow the unlock on their end in their system first. Read my post again maybe for more details about that. Also, it's not really 90 days, it's 3 months to the day, which means the 3rd to the 3rd of the month or the 10th to the 10th of the month or whatever. Hope this helps. Mine's unlocked now and I'm happy.

Unfortunately no. I've tried extracting the apk for people, but it can't be installed properly because it's hardwired into the system.
To get the unlock app on your device again you will either have to...
1) Download the official stock firmware from here and reflash it with ODIN:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/53271/G360T1UVU1AOFA_G360T1TMB1AOFA_TMB/
(Instructions are on that page and no data is lost during this painless flashing process.)
Or...
2) Install SlimPickins rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=63868639
It's a much lighter, debloated, version of our stock firmware(which saves you lots of space on your phone). I'm running it myself, but it requires you to have installed...
Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62859013
And...
TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62955166
Also, you have to install GAPPS(the Google suite with apps like Play Store, etc) separately at the same time you install the rom. This allows you to pick how much space Google apps take up on your phone and which apps you do and do not want.
Anyhow, either option will give you the Device Unlock app back.

Try connecting via Wi-Fi instead of data. If that doesn't work then try restarting your device and attempting with Wi-Fi again. If it still doesn't work, then it is likely their server being bogged down, so just try waiting awhile(possibly up to a day). Also, I'm sure you are, but just in case you're not, you must be in the US for the app to work.

Device unlock
Aside from all these extra steps it's pretty easy. I just open my app drawer and opened 'Device Unlock'. Right at the top it said permanent unlock so i clixked it, after 10 seconds if asked if I wanted to reboot. Once it finished rebooting it completely removed the device unlock and said it was permanently done . So if you don't feel like talking to metro to do it just try with the app it worked for me. Saved me 20 mins of being on hold. And shout out to Bogarty and everyone else working to optimize our device !!

Glad it worked for you right off the bat. It didn't for me. Mine was locked on their end. People should definitely just try the app first. That's good advice. Maybe I should include that in the OP. Thanks! They do still have to wait the 90 days of service though as I'm sure you did. Everyone just needs to make sure it no longer shows the reboot menu in the app after rebooting like in the pictures I posted. It may say "device is permanently unlocked", but if they still see reboot options, then the unlock settings have not yet been applied. Mine didn't apply the first few times because of a conflict between security settings and root. Curious if you were rooted at the time as that can pose some issues on some devices as I mentioned.

Definitely had to wait 90 days and then some.
But the unlocking itself like I said was about 10 secs and a reboot.
Were you rooted when you unlocked the phone ?

XT1028 (VZW) 5.1 LP OTA: WiFi-only users BEWARE!

Prior to making this thread, I'm active in this thread, talking about my update situation.
------------------------------------------
UPDATE: This is how you bypass the activation screen! Big thanks to @henser for figuring it out!
------------------------------------------
Here's my situation (which seems to fit others in the same situation so it's not just me) : My wife and have Moto Gs (hers an XT1028 wifi-only, mine an XT1031 wifi-only), and hers is "locked by Verizon and cannot be activated" (basically meaning it's never been scanned by a VZW cashier). She received the 5.1 OTA, and updated. Everything went smoothly, and she decided she wanted a fresh start, so she factory reset the device.
Bad move.
Apparently, the old bypass methods for Moto G's activation screen are now patched and no longer work in LP. This means that because VZW has "locked the device" and it "cannot be activated", she is ultimately stuck at the Setup Wizard / Activation screen with nothing to do but wait until someone figures out the new method.
Traditionally, a person might think of something else to do like unlock the bootloader and root it, but the XT1028's bootloader cannot be unlocked.
Did you try pulling down the notifications bar. Just try to get the navigation buttons back then press home or recent apps. That might be able to help!

That method has been patched as well. To my experience, every previous bypass has been patched. I know of 5, and have extensively searched for more.

i have given these 2 options but unfortunately none of the options work for me
The first option is called Advance Exchange: This require for you to provide a credit card to which we place a hold for $100, now this program includes a premium fee for $24.99 (amount that will not be refundable), in regards to allow us to send you the replacement device to you first, and you have up to 5 days to return the defective one to Motorola, once received the defective device, the hold will be released. The shipping label you will receive along with the shipping instructions will expire in 5 days.
Erick: The second option is called Return and Exchange: On this scenario, you must send the defective device first, once received we process the replacement and send it to you. In this case, it takes 2 Business days for us to receive your device and as soon as we receive this unit it takes 3 - 5 Business days in order to be delivered to you. The shipping label you will receive along with the shipping instructions will expire in 3 days.

Can I just BLOCK the upgrade to lollipop?
My MOTXT1028NPP works just fine for what I need.
I Don't have service, WIFI only.
Every time I turn it on, it says it's gonna upgrade to lollipop. Only option have is to delay until later the same day.
I don't want ANY upgrade. It works just fine for what I need.
It appears from this thread that the upgrade will prevent me using the device without service and prevent installing a custom rom???
Maybe only if I factory reset?
What if I need a factory reset for some other purpose?
Googling suggests that some people have experienced slowdowns from the upgrade that were fixed by a factory reset.
I considered the possibility that I might be able to install a custom ROM before it updates,
but those all seem to have issues.
Is there away to just PREVENT, PERMANENTLY, any and all upgrades, including this one??

On the contrary, we've already figured out a bypass for the activation but that's only needed if you plan on factory resetting.
In any case, you said you don't want to update. I think you can disable the OTA app, that would make the update notification not happen again until you want to in the future.
Also, unless you're one of those people who have an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery on the XT1028 (some people do who got the device early) you can't flash any ROMs.

P20 PRO (CLT-L04): New method for unlock bootloader [Oct 2018] (Mexico&Canada)

Hello everyone!
I have good news for you. After Huawei decided to stop providing the bootloader code, now we have another method to get it.
Unfortunately, it is a method that need to pay.
To the date I'm making this post, the cost is $30€.
Let me be clear:
I do not have a relationship with this people/team/person. I just want to share this method and prove that it works on the Mexican/Canadian model.
A good news, is that they accept PayPal.
If you want to try it, you have to do the following steps:
1.- Go to https://ministryofsolutions.com/huawei-bootloader-unlock-service-all-new-models-new-firmwares.
2. -Click: "Click here to order with PayPal".
3.- Now in your phone, go to the "phone" app and dial *#06#, you will see your IMEI and Serial Number.
3.5.- I suggest to copy those codes, and email you so you won´t have typing errors.
4.- Insert your IMEI and Serial Number into the webpage of ministry of solutions.
5. Make the payment with your paypal account.
6. After 24-48 hours, you will get the bootloader code in the email you used for paypal.
7. Be happy and unlock you bootloader.
I can ensure the web is working correctly. I unlocked mine a few moments ago, now I will rebrand
Thanks.
The guy can only sell 10 code per day, I need to wait tomorrow to order again..

I suspect this means that his solution is not exploit based, but revolves around either working for Huawei, or knowing someone who does and getting the codes via them.
Doesn't bode well.
Whoever they are , fair play to them. There's obviously a market for them and they deserve the money.
That said , president of HUAWEI probably want more money so he closed their page and assigned Mutahhar

I will give a chance to Huawei and Android Pie version they will make.
But I like LineageOS so much that I will install it in the future. I unlocked my bootloader (and have this fuc…. message each time I reboot the device) only to be able to install custom roms when I will like to do so.

I fully understand your point and I am sure you have your reasons.
But for my point of view, this is exactly how a community should work. People making development could not do everything good every time.
Even big corporation do mistake. For example, my wife had trouble with her iPhone 7 and 12.0 (unable to connect to 5Ghz Wifi). After 12.0.1 it is correct.
On my devices, only some applications were not working correctly. I was able to use my devices on a daily basis, without restriction (personal mail, corporate mail with Outlook, Maps/Waze, listening to music, some games,...). And for my personal experience, updates went smooth, only some (less than 2 per year) went wrong. But I could always flash back and wait for the correction to be applied by people in charge.
The only drawback for me was the battery, it was difficult to length 1 day.
But again, I fully understand and you have the right to not choose LineageOS and use something else.

I guess it has to do with how long I have been using custom ROMs. When I started using them years ago devs only worked on ROMs for devices they used themselves every day and the ROMs were not only stable enough to use as a daily driver but offered better performance and features than the stock ROM which is why people used them. Since the devs created ROMs for their own phones they were aware of bugs before posting builds. They didn't rely on users telling them what was wrong with every build after it was uploaded. When a custom ROM was labeled as stable it very rarely had any bugs.
Devs now routinely build or maintain ROMs for phones they don't use (or rarely use) so the ROMs always have bugs. I don't think custom ROMs are stable enough to use as daily drivers anymore but a lot of people seem to be fine with using custom ROMs that are slower and way more buggy than the stock ROM that comes on their phone. To each his own.
Why repost something a day later? https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20-pro/how-to/bootloader-unlock-service-t3852447
Because I can.
try this... good service and low price, tested on mine p20 pro from mexico..... https://global-unlocking-solutions.miiduu.com/bootloader-unlock-codes-choose-model-below
is this the same as unlocking your sim? im on telcell and i got zero updates, so im guessing i need to unlock it from telcel? or can i just unlock the bootloader with the code? and also, what do you do with the code once you have it?

yes for telcel
hey guys, i used funky Hauwei for rebranding from L04 to L29 international. and is working fine. im on l29(c636) but im working on erecovery now, im trying to get it to CLT-L29 9.0.0.108 but we will see. and i will let you know.
but the rebranding is a little tricky but works.
Okay update. Had to go back to L04 because when I went from 8 to pie while branded as L29. It wouldn't install due to compatibility issues. So had to rebrand back to L04. Recovery through funky Huawei. First 8 then 9 and worked perfectly. Only issues I have are with the telcel branding on start up. But all the bloatware I removed or disabled in CCleaner. So I don't have to look at the icons all the time. I'm currently running pie and it's awesome. Lots of cool new tweaks
Sent from my CLT-L04 using XDA-Developers Legacy app

Question Got Factory Unlocked Moto 5G Stylus XT2211-2 and IT WONT BOOTLOADER UNLOCK

Has anyone had any problems with this variant? Factory Unlocked to any carrier in the WORLD and no bootloader unlock. Motorola says it's ineligible. Any thoughts?

Use a different email address. You have unlocked too many devices in a period of time so it won't let you with that email. Try again with new or alt email.

That should only take 72 to 96 hours if you leave it on and connected to data and/or wifi the whole time.

Can you please elaborate? I have the OEM unlock option greyed out. I followed instructions on another thread and factory reset, retried with wifi, no sim, no login, no joy.
Now will this change if I wait 72 hours? I already have a code from motorola, but I'm going on call for work again shortly and I can't leave the sim out for 72 hours. Thanks.
Edit: Just bought the model today, hoping for a LineageOS phone. Third try of the "buy a new phone" strategy, but I got a different model than was advertised, XT2131-1

Yes you will need to wait a few days like he said. Just leave it alone, don't reset or anything. Leave the phone booted up and preferably on wifi. It will eventually become available.

So this is really a new thing Motorola/Lenovo is doing? My phone is factory unlocked. XT-2211-2 (I got the 2022 Stylus model factory unlocked no carrier brand). I did manage to get the unlock code from moto's site (Looks like it was just glitchy when i first tried but another poster said keep at it and i did and the 3rd time they mailed it to me) but the OEM is still greyed out. Turned on the phone Sunday. So I have to wait for it to "Trigger"?

Listen to my other post. Leave the sim card in. Leave it on. For 72+ hours. The option should then be ready after that.

And as for the xt2211 this is NOT the forum for said device. Please either request one be made or wait. I understand we all get itchy to root and make our devices custom but when the device was just released less than 6 months ago I wouldn't expect much. Sorry guys.
But to answer, yes young Padawan, patience is a must.

Swinging by to report that this was accurate for me and after the 3 days I was able to cycle developer options and unlock OEM, already got the code from Motorola during the waiting period.
Quick update:
Finally unlocked my 2nd device with this. Letting you guys know that wifi alone will not unlock it. Left it on wifi for 8 days no OEM unlock. Dropped my sim card in it and it unlocked instantly. It also won't turn "on" so to speak, just tap it when it looks like its not active and the prompt will come up like its hidden.

Question What am I missing

Bought phone off marketplace; verified it was working by inserting my SIM card and making a phone call prior to purchase. Later on while setting up the phone I discover that it's got administrative software installed on it and retail mode turned on.
Looking closer at the box, it said it's a demo unit. (I know, should've been more thorough)
The question I have is if it's a true demo unit that's unsalvageable, why was I able to make the call? (I used my own SIM)
Some demo units can make calls. People like to try them out in stores. Personally, I'd try to return it. Maybe you can flash a new firmware. Doubt makeup of hardware any different since it works. Never know though.

Unfortunately returning isn't an option, the guy knew this thing had an issue and decided to not tell me. I figured since it made a call, it should be fine.
The IMEI number comes back as clean, I might try and see if I can use it for a "trade In" if flashing new firmware doesn't seem like it can happen.

Too much of course.
Just go into Settings->Developer Options->Demo mode and take it out of demo mode.

Doesn't allow me to, asks for a password, none of the ones i've found floating around have worked.
there's a admin lockdown, software called SENNCO from Brichtec, its what's removed the "wipe data/factory reset" from the recovery menu im guessing.

I'm able to get to the recovery screen and it seems to allows me to install updates from ADB; am I okay trying to use my pc/ODIN to flash tmobile firmware I have for this device?
Why not? You said if non of this works you're going to trade it in... As long as you don't brick it... And if you're on TMobile... Is it eligible for care plus? If so, you may be able to pass it off to them for repair
Great minds...i was doing that while you posted i guess. Was able to flash and reboot and it went back to the same locked down version that was there before. I guess this means that it's the bootloader/recovery that's locked down? Will try replacing that next.
Any idea where I might find the TWRP for this phone?

Not really sure, haven't rooted or used recovery software in a long time. Finally decided to let others be beta testers and just want a working phone. Go to Samsung Care plus web site, plug in your serial number or IMEI and it will tell you if it qualifies for coverage. If so, $8 month, first 3 or 4 months free, cancel at anytime. If covered, pay deductible and let them fix or replace, which in this case would most likely be replace. Past that, USA phones are pretty locked down if they weren't purchased unlocked. Yea, you can unlock a provider phone after a while on their plan, but boot loader still tough to Crack. I think that's what you just ran into.
