Can't turn off shutter sound - Google Pixel 3 Questions & Answers

Good day, I received a pixel 3 that came from Japan and as far as I know it is mandatory to always turn on the shutter sound there. However, I am using the device outside Japan, is thee any workaround for this? I am thinking to flash a firmware of another region. Thanks.

Just to be clear, did you already look in the Camera app at More / Settings? Do you have an option for camera sounds?

Devices come from Japan must have camera shutter sound, it is just the laws there. No way to turn it off unless you root or flash some other ROM.

Ive searched and have not found any NEW flashable patchs to disable the camera shutter sounds for v4.4.4.
Not wanting to mess up my phone with the old files I have from 1st release of kit kat.
Anybody have any idea if they are still safe? Or is there a patch I havent found for v4.4.4?

I saw that posted from a google search.
But it wont fix the sounds in HDR mode.
Also if you look at the dates of those postings they are made before the v4.4.4 came out.
Thank you for the input.

Its the same in any version
You'll also have to decompile Google Camera if you want to remove the sound on HDR+ mode.

Meh, I don't like the sounds either. I suppose it's because I don't like the mimic sound of a physical hardware shutter. HDR is at least a beep.

As far as I know the sound in the stock ROM is the same as the HDR+ beep, I think the shutter mimicking sound is an AOSP thing lol. I don't like the AOSP sounds
I looked into this for a while and found that there's no easy way. I'd say the best option is a tasker profile to turn your phone to silent when you launch the Camera app and reset it when you close the camera app.

Step counting on auto, how to turn off?

I was hiking the slot canyon in Anza yesterday and when I finally got back to a restaurant, I realized the phone , which I'd never enabled anything in particular on, had counted all my steps and several other things.
Does anyone know how to disable step counting on emui 5? I've done all the obvious things, like "disable step counting". Thanks. I don't care how many steps I've taken, only that I arrived.
Also: I meant to mention this but forgot. The camera works great for me, but that isn't good enough for the Honor 8. After I've taken some pictures, about 3 hours later, it always pops up a notification that says "I've finished enhancing your picture of _____" . What if I don't want an enhanced picture? Is there a way to turn off all this irritating crap? Thanks again.

If you are referring to the step count being displayed on the lock screen then you disable it through the screen lock settings. Otherwise, I believe it's in the Health App itself.
Not sure about the photo enhancing. Never seen that one before.
What app do tell you about step counting.
Plus, clear data and cache of the camera app and see if the pop-up is still present
I didn't even know that the Honor 8 had a built in step counter app in it's software.

The only fitness app I can find is called "google fit". I've disabled it. However, the steps are still there after disabling them on the lock screen & disabling the fit app, so I think it may be a bug or else there is another counter that just keep going. It's not that bad and it doesn't eat up any noticeable energy.

I just realized I had an app called "Health" and disabled it, and now it is gone from the lock screen. The lock screen setup doesn't work for turning off steps (or not showing them). The app was located in the /system/app folder as hw-health-midware.apk

Probably doesn't matter what my frd-l04 came with that I bought from newegg that I use on ATT. It matters more that I updated to Nougat and that's the beta which had the health app in it. On marshmallow, I never had the step counter or the health app.

Will you please try downloading gcam and see how it takes pictures with gcam? both using HDR+ and regular.
GCam is the camera app from the pixel phones. there are versions of it for different phones (unofficially) here in xda.
I want to see how different the pictures are. i heard that they were using the S7 Edge camera sensor. that leads me to believe that the camera is potentially not bad. Basically that would be a win for all of us if true. will you put that to the test? thanks man. also i was looking to buy it to root as well but im not sure if you are up to go that far but if you do, let me know how it goes. thank you very much!

IMHO,a resounding NO........
The display is plenty bright, adjust to your liking.
Adaptive lighting/auto brightness,I have both turned off.
I have yet to use a phone that suits me using either, always being too dim, this one is no different.
Crank it up to your liking manually & it's more than bright enough, with plenty to spare.
No phone is going to be as clear/bright/legible outdoors vs indoors.
From my experience/usage with many, many phones, there's negligible,if any, difference under sunlit/outdoor conditions from one phone to the next.
I'm sure you could detect negligible differences in a side-by-side comparison, but, that's not real-world usage, just for the bloggers/websites to have something to talk about.......
Rest assured, the screen is plenty bright,go ahead & dive in..................... :good:

I rarely do video (almost never) on phone. So cant really tell.
But the most notable improvement was the auto HDR logic.
Previously (on .106 or .103), we wont be able to get an HDR picture without actually turning ON HDR mode. Thus when being compred to what we got on Pixel (i own pixel 2 as well so i can compare as well) we will find that P20 pro pic has less dynamic range, both on highlight and shadow area, which cause a lack of details.
On .107 the auto mode (Ai ON, Photo Mode -not night, not pro) do have better detection of what kind of scene being shot. When it detect that the highlight or shadow area are both quite strong in contrast, it trigger HDR automatically, and the result are much much better compared to older firmware result. The detail are coming out nicely, and there is less clipping on bright area.
You can notice when the HDR processing actually kicked in, by seeing, if the camera notify you to hold still the phone for a bit after pressing the shutter, you know the result will turned out better than you imagine.
sometimes it (the HDR) didn't kicked in though, i think its due to where i pick the focus area at. I have a more consistent result when i place a focus/metering to the dark area.
i'll attach 2 pictures in next post. one when the HDR automatically kicked in, and one when it doesnt.

Here you go :
1st picture is when HDR didnt kicked in (on older firmware, i can assure that most of the time the result will turned out like this, unless i enable HDR or night mode manually)
both picture taken almost at the same time.
please note that these was taken behind a dirty tinted office windows, so there would be details lost and flare/ color fringe all around. but it serve well for comparison

for each huawei phone, i mostly do 2 or 3 updates (only when there's major update)

Hi folks - quick question. I have a CLT-L29 8.1.0.106 (C605). Firmware finder lists several firmware including a CLT-L29C605B121a
I am in the US and purchased the world unlocked version from sobeonline on eBay. Will flashing the 121a firmware from above screw up anything and does it wipe my data?
Been a long time since I messed with flashing firmware (back in the Nexus 5 days!) so thanks in advance for explaining.

Features Needed/Missing in NEX

Overall I love this device , it is any day better than anything else under $700 (~Rs. 50k in India). But I have the habit of nitpicking and thus I found out some camera features that are missing and should be added by Vivo in future updates.
1. 4k video recording @60fps
2. Super slow motion @480fps
3. ARcore apps support
If anyone knows any method to achieve above mentioned features by any means , then please do respond.
And let's not stop bugging Vivo to get more features .

Does Indian version still come with Jovi installed but deactivated? Probably better that it wasn't anyway so it's less redundancy /bloat when there's Google AI.
Just got mine. Was lucky to be able to get the Indian version.
Overall it's a good device, reminds me of the s9 and note a bit in the hand.
I have gone throughany devices in the apst year or so (Note 8, S8+, S9+, iPhone X, Pixel 2Xl, xiaomi mi mix and htc u11) I still love mi mix more than all. I wish it has a better camera. I love it so much I have 2 ( one for backup as I have broken couple in the past) it's the only phone that I keep going back to.
Vivo seems to be a good phone, UI is a bit different and will take some time. I would recommend getting Indian or international version as you won't have to deal with the headache of Chinese phones.
Indian version doesn't have Jovi, it's remapped to Google Lens.
It does have Jovi but deactivated because if you go into settings, there is a sub-heading with Jovi, which I guess controls the AI function in camera & games.
PS: Just checked, no option to activate it.

Lol. These ROM designers... Smh.

Got an Indian version. I miss face unlock from op6 or Ipx. I wish it'd be a WQHD+ screen like s9+ and IP certificate. What I miss the most though is NFC, as I'm using the gpay all the time.
Hopefully the software issues will be sorted.
