In my experience, SupCase Unicorn Beetle Pro case is the best Otterbox alternative as long as you remove the built-in plastic screen protector and use a tempered glass protector instead.
Unlike the previous generations, the Pixel 4 case has a built-in kickstand and the branding on the back is "UB Pro" instead of the usual "Unicorn Beetle".
Here it is next to Pixel 3 XL and 2 XL, just waiting for the phone to show up.
why would you not use the included screen protector and go with a separate one? because it's plastic? asking because i think this case will fit the bill perfectly and i'm curious whether or not the protector will suck/is optional

The built-in protector scratches easily and has no adhesive, so it forms an air gap between the plastic and the screen. When the screen is on, the air gap reduces contrast (blacks will always be grayish). When the screen is off, it will look like there is an oily patch in the middle of it (Newton's rings).
It takes some patience to fully remove the built-in screen protector and adhesive without damaging the front half of the case, but in my experience with Unicorn Beetle Pro cases for Pixel 3 XL / 2 XL and HTC 10 / M9 / M8 it's well worth it.
You do have to use a tempered glass protector instead, otherwise the phone will be somewhat loose inside the case.
One of the best cases out there. My 4XL showed up today but I'm not unwrapping it until the Unicorn Beetle Pro shows up for it tomorrow. Also signed up for a sample of a Schnailcase. Very similar design to the Supcase but it has an aluminum frame and redirects the audio from the bottom speaker to the front of the case.

Update: Just got the Unicorn Beetle Pro on my 4XL. As usual, the quality does not disappoint. However, coming from a Galaxy S8+, I'm a bit disappointed in the overall size of this thing. The S8+ at its thickest point is .53" but the 4XL case comes in at .61 all the way around. I always hated the S8+ because of the curved sides of the screen, but the case was notched out for easy access for the side control functions. I kinda wish that Supcase would've done the same thing with this case to reduce the overall bulk. I also wonder how much extra depth is caused by the new kickstand feature they are putting in these cases.
As far as positives, the screen protector actually seems kind of nice. Much nicer than the one that was on my Nexus 6. I'll give it a day or two before I decide to remove the screen protector. The squeeze for Google Assistant is still use-able. I have the sensitivity almost all of the way down, because of how much extra force the case requires you to exert. I'm sure if I continue using this feature, the case will loosen up over time.
This being said, I am very curious to try the Schnail case. It looks like it will be equally bulky but will at least re-direct the audio from the bottom to the front. I will post back with further updates on the Supcase.

Just another update.
I absolutely hate how thick this case is. Also, I started to have the normal issues with the built-in screen protector so I cut it out like all the others I've ever had.

Just found these cases on Amazon. I've always been a big fan of these. I've never had the heavy duty holster case before but I've had several of the Unicorn Beetle cases and have loved them. It seems they always have a tight/snug fit that protects the phone nicely with easy-to-use buttons, although I'll hold judgment until I get my case and phone in.

Just so you know there is already a case thread, & I did post about this one and a holster thread a couple days ago. Looking forward to it for sure.
Looks nice hope it gets an AF cutout
I have had great luck with Supcases on other phones and tablets. Love the fitment and the rubber last forever.
Looks like the pictures for both cases on Amazon have been updated. They look really nice and don't interfere with the auto focus sensor. Unicorn Beetle Slim and Pro
Edit: I believe they also added new colors
I like both of them, but more leaning to the slim model. I like the bigger one, but I am always afraid the screen protector will affect screen usage. Anyone have any experience with how the built in screen protectors feel?

Good point. If I really wanted to I could peel off the included one and go with a tempered glass protector.
Looks neat but man that must add some bulk to an already big device
Anyone know anywhere to buy these apart from on Amazon as they wont ship to Australia?

I'm actually waiting for a tank case, since I don't care about added bulk. I find it more reassuring. Problem is, the tank case makers don't seem to have committed to making cases for the 6P. Griffin, Ballistic, Trident, and OtterBox are out. Seidio is making one, but I'm not sure which one. I'm hoping for the CONVERT case. Other than that, options seem VERY limited. : /

Thanks, I certainly hope so. I'm holding off on getting the phone as of yet, because I want to see some reviews first. Also, I'm looking to batch 2, to avoid any possible issues with quality control. I wonder when those will start rolling out? January, perhaps?

Yeah, the unicorn beetle cases are absolutely insanely tough. I've thrown my g3 across the room many times and across the asphalt and concrete plant in the case doesn't even have any scratches. Very hard to get off but I don't know that I'll ever use another case again.

Yes, although the built in screen protector is pretty nasty. Easy to remove by pushing it out of the frame and scraping off the adhesive. I have one on my g3 and the buttons are open, but that's probably because the way the g3 sits. Looking at the version for the Nexus it looks like they are completely covered.

This is what I did for the iPhone version. I couldn't stand the built-in protector for more than a day before I ordered glass.
I preordered this case about a month ago and absolutely need this case. After using one on my Motorola nexus 6, and doing construction work for a living its my go to case. I don't know how much longer I can wait for this to ship.... Seems like the date keeps getting pushed back on Amazon.

Only the pro has the built-in plastic protector. Buttons are covered, but still just as effective/responsive. IMO from personal experience, the pro version is complete overkill because the standard cause does such a great job with almost no perceived bulk. Pro only wins out over the standard version if you expect to drop your phone from an extreme height like 15 feet or so. If you, like many, like UAG cases, you'll love this one.
I bought the clear case. TMobile sells them. Compared to other minimal cases i have had in the past (and one other Amazon case for the note7) it seems better. It hugs the curves ans shape of the device perfectly, and the holes line up EXACTLY which often isn't the 'case' for 3rd party cases. It's also very thin and light and on my silver note7 it's hardly noticeable.

its $20ish. Will post pictures when I can figure out how to do so as I sold my Note5 already!!. Its a very soft TPU case.
I have been looking for photos, videos and reviews of this case too but they seem non existent so far. Whatever info you can post would be great.
I've been into slim clear cases for a long time. I'd like to appreciate the body down to its finest lines and curves, caressing its smooth texture, feeling the little tips and points where they sprout along the edges, admiring the beauty that is gleaming in front of me, wanting to grab........ok well you get the point. I risked my phones going naked for these reasons for a long time, but alas, the Note 7 might require a case from me.
Anyways, I would search high and low for thin slim clear cases that would
1) wont produce so much fingerprint smear
2) smooth as buttah
3) wont stick to the glass backing and create a rainbow effect
4) doesnt have sharp lips
5) its flush against the edges.
Now yes, it does attract fingerprints but less so since its soft TPU and I've come to accept the annoyance that comes with using clear cases that its inevitable. Aside from that it meets the rest of my requirements. Not all soft TPU cases are alike. This particular O.E.M clear case feels good in the hands. Soft, smooth (almost like hard plastic), and at times grippy. I unfortunately do not have pictures to show but may post them later. If you are highly interested, I suggest stopping by your local t-mobile store to try it on first. If you like it buy it, if not keep searching. Good luck! :good:
I ordered this case and and I really like it but I'm a fan of slim/minimalistic cases that showcase the design of phones. The material is a soft rubber(?) not a hard shell. It's clear so it does show a lot of fingerprints but it fits the phone perfectly. The case feels tacky/grippy so the phone feels extra secure when you're holding it.

A similarly thin spigen is only $10 bucks.

Thanks for the pictures. I like it.
Got this one as well. Got the Note 7 starter pack from Samsung which contained
TPU case clear
2 pcs screen protector
1 pc tilted wireless charger
Pros: tpu case is very minimal in when it comes to thickness so thats a plus.
Con: it doesnt have raised edges. So if you placed your phone upside down, the screen itself would be touching the table. And worse, if you drop it face down, the screen would take much of the impact
Screen protector:
Pro: its a curved platic screen protector so it wraps on the edges
Con: its thicker than your usual screen protector. Almost as thick as those invisashield ones. The more important negative on this, since it wraps around the whole screen even the edges. When i bought a Spigen Liquid Crystal case (for raised edges). When i slipped it on, it peels the side of the screen protector.
Tilted wireless charger is a tilted wireless charger. Nothing to comment except that it takes getting used to. Its just easier to charge with the flat version when it comes to just dropping your phone. Tilted one requires a little more alignment

Every time I look through XDA posts on cases, I always see people getting the most protection possible from their cases. I am opposite - I hate adding any bulk; even .4". I am trying to find a case that just protects the back and sides from little scuffs (not actually anything in regards to dropping it from 4 feet). I know iPhone has a bunch (what a waste) and want to find one very similar. Matte black, silicone that is as thing as possible.
Anyone come across any yet? I can't be the only one that is looking!
Examples (New user - can't hyperlink. Sorry!):
Caudabe - The Veil for iPhone 5/5s
Desmay - The Slight for iPhone 6 Plus
Spigen - Case Air Skin for iPhone 6s
Thanks!
Josh
I'm also looking for this. I currently use the Maxboost mSnap thin, perfect fit case, which seems to be the smallest available, but it's not perfect.
Coming from the S7 Edge, I'm used to cases leaving the side edges uncovered. This Maxboost grips the bezel on every side, making the volume and power buttons difficult to press, and side swiping aggravating.
If I could find something as minimal as the S7e's Spigen Thin Fit, I would be happy.

I'm really enjoying this matte black case https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LSB371S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Scratches on the back of the case are self healing and it's very thin! I use a magnetic car dock and keep the metal plate taped to the inside of the case and it works perfectly for me!

So first off loving my 1+6 (8/128). Super fast and just plain awesome! Puts my S8+ in the dust
But my main reason for this post is about the included phone case that came with the phone. I haven't seen anyone mention it on here, so wasn't sure if anyone was aware. But inside the box the the phone is attached to once you unbox it, there is a basic style phone case inside. It's nothing fancy, but it's a case. And it's FREE. I actually like it, and was so glad it was there as I didn't want to wait several days for a case to be ordered and delivered. Granted, I completely bypassed that part of the unboxing as it usually just includes the "paperwork" that nobody reads. But after a day, I was hurting for protection on my phone. Always carefully putting it down somewhere where it wouldn't slide and scratch the backing. Or on something super soft. So, I just so happened to re-open the box and look inside and to my surprise, there was a case.
So, this phone is not only awesome in speed and performance (minus a bit of battery issues at the moment), but they also include a pre-attached screen protector AND a phone case! WOW...hats off to you OnePlus! More OEMs should be taking a page out of your book...ESPECIALLY for the prices we are asked to pay for these "premium" phones.
It's a high quality case and I like it a lot.
I knew about the free case inside the box but I bought other 2 cases from Oneplus, I like the one from the package more.
It doesn't suck, and I'm glad not to have to go naked with a glass phone while I wait for a real case from UAG. Nice gesture from OP, though these TPU cases cost about 50 cents to make.
Compared to other TPU cases ain't bad.
I jsut hate transparent TPU cases, with dust getting between the case and the phone
I really like it for indoor environment, pretty slim, grippy, light weight raised bezels, especially on corners, good quality material and air bags on corners
I don't like it. But I don't like gel cases full stop. They're too sticky for me. I've bought the silicone case though which is amazing.
Indeed, I was glad to see one included, though I did know about it beforehand as it was listed in the "What's inside the box" portion of the web site. I am putting on a rugged case in a couple of weeks but for now am happy my OP6 is protected to some degree.
Uh... They've been including a case since the 5T and have had the even pre applied even protector for quite a while now. And I would suggest getting the nylon bumper case it's much safer and doesn't make the device bulky. Didn't look through the whole box lmao.
Let me share my OP6 experience. I used the included case for a good 3 days and I think it's a decent option. Coming from OnePlus One, I decided to buy the sandstone back case for my OP6 and boy oh boy, it's premium! Although there is compromise with safety as it doesn't wrap up the phone completely but for someone like me who doesn't drop his phone much, this premium case if pure gold! Totally recommended ♥
Edit: Adds zero bulk to the phone, fits like a glove and even covers the camera bump with ease. As I've already mentioned a few times before, it feels and looks premium!
it's a good case, i'd just prefer a black rim because it looks a bit grayish from the front while the back looks grat transparent.
however, it's not only free, it's also decent ?
I have the silk white and when sunlight hits the case the whole surrounded areas of the phone glow a pinkish light. Super cool effect.
Is the camera bump really protected? I've been using the included case for a couple of days and I cannot tell for sure if it does. I really love slim cases as dropping the phone is quite improbable in my case, but getting the camera glass scratched for putting the phone on a table would be a bummer.

My search for the same answer brought me here. It looks like it's flush with the case but it's so close it's hard to tell. The case is thin and grippy and the buttons are easier to press compared to the nylon case. If I knew the camera was protected I would use it as my main case.

Thanks for that info. I guess I won't use this case on a regular.
I prefer cases that are as slim as possible. The phone is big already, and adding even more bulk with a sturdy case makes it even more cumbersome. I'm considering other choices as I don't want the camera to get scratches, but I haven't seen transparent/flexible with enough thickness to guarantee camera protection. OP cases are also compatible with the tempered glass, so I guess I'll have to go with one of the official cases (have an unopened sandstone, but again, I don't know how it fares regarding the camera).

I usually protect the lens with Dbrands along with the body of the phone. You can also instead opt for lens glass protectors which can be purchased pretty cheaply.
Where can I buy this case?
Would love to know this as well. I've been thinking of buying the same thing with the same colour and I've never been able to find one
Hey, I have been looking for a screen protector for hours and it seems like all of them don't even manage to completely cover the display. I can understand not completely covering all the curve, but at least the actual display should be covered right? Anyone have good cheap protectors they have found that cover the display completely? Also for cases, how much protection do you think I need. I have an LG G3 with a hybrid silicone inner and hard plastic outer case right now. I hate the fact that it's a brick, so I want a lighter case like maybe a clear TPU case, but is that enough protection. I drop my phone often. However now that I think about it, the hard plastic doesn't really offer protection, the silicone is what is hitting things, so maybe TPU is fine. Can I just have some thoughts to reassure me so I can buy the TPU clear case and be done with worrying?
If you do drop your phone often and can't afford to buy another phone on the spot if it breaks I would suggest a more protective case. The one I recommend that isn't too big is the speck presidio grip case. also due to the rubber grips it is comfortable to hold like tpu cases. My phone dropped several feet onto the cement in a parking lot a few years back (my first and last major drop thank goodness), the case was scuffed up but my phone was safe so I always trusted them and bought one for each new upgrade. Amazon usually sells them cheaper than the official speck store. If you decide to stick with the clear tpu case just know your protection will be a gamble on drops, it's all what works best for you.
as for screen protectors, you may find a case that you like that wont allow for full coverage screen protectors. im currently using a glass protector that just covers the display portion of the screen. once i finally settle on a case i like ill see if i can fit a full coverage one. one issue with the full ones is they can kill touch sensitivity, so that has to be watched out for too.
I've bought a couple screen protectors.
1. Pulen contained glass that was nowhere close to fitting my Pixel 3a (maybe it was for the Pixel 3a XL and just mislabelled?). I returned it.
2. Katian is what I'm using now. It's by no means perfect but it's a good "cheapo one that works until a good one is discovered" solution and I highly recommend it for that. I fully expect it to develop a rainbow effect fairly soon and the black part covers just a tad bit of the screen (more than it should - I understand there's a delicate balancing act here), but it's not bad. It does cover all of the usable screen and then some yet works with the two cases that I currently have. It seems like it would be case friendly with all but the most extreme of cases - it's about perfect on that front (in my opinion). Note that I've only used it for an hour or so, so this is still a fresh take.
I hope this helps somebody until we finally get an actual good screen protector!
I got uniqueme glass protector . 3 pack for $10. Just covers the visible part of screen.
and slinco case for $9
From amazon.
They are both adequate for the job
I just got THIS ONE in a pinch...
It fits nicely. Goes on easily and doesn't feel like it will pop out or anything. Offsets the glass and camera enough for me to use it until better options come out. It's TPU but harder than most. A decent first unit I'd say.
And my 9 month old nephew was fast enough to grab it and throw it across the room yesterday...
It protected!
I don't have the 3a yet but will be ordering it tonight. I've always used Spigen cases on my phone's since I've had the Nexus 6 and currently use it on my Moto Z2F. These cases are tough as nails. I'll probably get one for my 3a when I buy it. They have different styles to choose from. I recommend you look into them. Each one of my phone's has always come out the case in mint condition. I could throw my phone half way across the room and it would still be safe.
I also recommend the Spigen cases. Had them one my op3, op6 and now on the pixel 3a and they are just perfect.

Can you recommend a screen protector that fits with Spigen case?

I bought this exact one but in blue. I also got a Spigen rugged armor case, however I switched back to this one because it feels a little bit more protective

Sorry, brand name is Supershieldz. I used it on my last phone. It doesn't provide full screen coverage, only visible.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RWM29DL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The case I bought that I'm using right now is this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RLL3G72/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And the Spigen I bought is this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MJ7V552/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I like Spigen, but as I said, the other one felt a little more rugged without being too bulky. It also seems to be a bit more grippy. The Spigen is smooth in places unlike the Spigen I got last time for my last phone (Mate 9)
Finally found some good screen protectors. Clarity is where it should be and fitment is as good as it can be considering the price.
Needed to firmly press all over the screen to get any little bubbles out, but now it's perfect.
Coverage is from the forehead to base of the chin.

I see a lot of people reviewing that product saying that it's too narrow.

It covers the screen itself, maybe not the entire front face, but that's all I care about. Plus, with a case, the 3mm on either side won't get scratched.

Just pointing that out. The screen protectors I use are sort of the same way but I'm okay with it

the Supershieldz tempered glass linked above is what I got for my dads Pixel 3a. Applied fine, no bubbles and coverage seems as good as it's gonna get without getting one of the protectors that tries to curve at the edges. Thinking I might get the same for my 3a now... haven't seen anything better out there yet.

So had my first drop onto concrete tonight with the Supershieldz glass protector in the bulkier case. Drop from about 3 and 1/2 ft onto a hard concrete surface and it wasn't just drop speed it got kind of forced down out of my hand no cracks all was well. To say I was holding my breath as I picked it up would be an understatement.
