Set the kid (or any user that you want to keep tabs on) as a secondary user - not Administrator. And you'll want dead-stock 10 for this (for other reasons, I recommend dead-stock 10 for ANY Pixel).
For the first time ever, I unhesitatingly recommend dead-stock Android 10 (if your phone can run it); in fact, I'm running dead-stock 10 myself. Before I got my Pixel 3a, I had never (as in "at all") run dead-stock Android on a phone; the last time I ran dead-stock Android - on anything - was dead-stock Ice Cream Sandwich - on a tablet - which I rooted within a week. It's not that I can't root Android 10; it's rootable (though not TWRP-able - yet); however, there has to be a reason TO root - for the first time ever, I don't have a reason to do so. Backups? I can do that dead-stock; in fact, it's the default (and has been since Oreo); if you run a Samsung device, you could do it in Nougat and later. Security is massively improved merely since Oreo (which is - conversely (if not perversely) why it's gotten harder (but not impossible) TO root). Thus is leads to the question - why root if you don't have to? Throw in a non-admin user (such as a kid), then there's far less reason to root; however, even for ordinary usage, the usual reasons to root (and especially in the case of 10) aren't really there.
Short version: What's the easiest/best way to make sure my (unlocked/Magisk-rooted) 7Pro does NOT upgrade to Android 10?

New 1+ owner here after finally giving up on Google's ability to make a phone I like (I have had only Google phones since Nexus One, and just now retiring my Nexus 6) -
Before getting the 7Pro, I got/tried/returned the horrible Pixel 4XL - that I might actually have kept if Google had done a better job on the software - Android 10 and the new Assistant features. (*Shocking to me that out of the box, this brand new factory fresh phone is loaded with GAPPS that lack the features that Google advertises for the phone! Requires many updates, and still doesn't work properly.)
Since I don't want to effectively become a beta-tester for this new stuff, I really want to prevent the 1+ from updating to Android 10 and not quite sure how to make sure:
The phone came with a 9.x version, and did 1 system upgrade to 9.5.13, and it's now telling me another system upgrade is available. But, best I can tell, there is no way to know what build it is going to update to until after it's done?
Android 10 stable branch has been mostly fine. The only bug I've experienced was due to custom kernels and modules. I'd say avoid 10.3 until the wifi brain cpu issue is fixed.

xxxNoLimits can systemlessly debloat OPBackup if you select that as one of the available options. That will prevent auto updates.
Best as I understand, 9.5.3 was the last Pie Rom. Any further updates will be Q.
I used to do it to flash firmwares but that does not seem to be prevalent any more, so why do I need to root?
I know this is a developer/modding site but I have to agree with the OP.
I come here for the general forum information that is "usually" more technical for obvious reasons. But to risk a very expensive tool for unlocking and modding....the risks far outweigh the benefits...IMO...YMMV
App & system theming (with Substratum + Swift Black, Repainter for pure system AMOLED black & Project Themer for different notification styles, lockscreen clock etc.). System-wide equaliser (currently with JamesDSP but will await VIper4Android working on A13 hopefully), system-wide ad-blocking. Revanced Youtube for background play etc.
Plus with AOSP Mods via Magisk it adds tons on features like customisable quick toggle column/row quantities + label text size, clock position, removing carrier label from status bar, long press power button screen off for torch and so much more! Plus not to mention custom rom support which whilst sometimes buggy, come with a wealth of benefits. I like to stick to stock these days with AOSP Mods & Magisk, as that module has many features and saves having any custom rom bugs (e.g. on Pixel 6 Pro, a custom rom would lose Magic Eraser whereas having a modded stock, retained it)/
I get the risks, but we do plenty of research and tread carefully and all is generally ok!
Got my Pixel 7 Pro just today and bootloader unlocked after the first OTA came through. It's now rooted and without passing safetynet currently, all cards successfully added to my Google Wallet.
Running like a dream
I used to root every one of my previous phones, but I've not done so on my Noted 10 Plus as I find Samsung Pay too useful. And rooting destroys it forever. Not sure if Google Pay still works when rooted, that may nudge me to do it.
I have no plans to root my 7 Pro when it arrives. But that may change.

For me the main thing is working app backup, since the Google solution is absolutely unreasonable (I have several non-play-store apps that I have had on every smartphone I've owned, and data generally isn't saved with Google anyway) But also tons of little things like being able to set a limit on battery charge level, full (to the extent still possible) filesystem access, a floating CPU monitor I like, Greenify, Island, Tasker stuff, etc.
System wide as blocking since 2012. No other phone does it better and easier.
How about Banking? I ditched rooting since all Banking apps denied to work. Workaround didn't work anymore.

Just use their website? Or switch banks? I have my primary bank with a local outfit that doesn't care about rooting (although that's not why I got them, it certainly helps keep me there) if I need to deposit a check and everything else can be done on their mobile website.
My main reason would be for the custom Kernels and for Viper4Android. I didn't have a bunch of $ to fork out for 2 new phones so I went with Verizon so I won't be getting either unless I hit the lottery and then buy a Google Version of the P7P.

For instance, I know the Samsung Galaxy Note Ultra 20 5G on Verizon(The Device I'm switching from) was locked down but apparently some guy on XDA started an Unlock service and would unlock it for ~$100.
I root since it's my XDA addiction!

From memory on the Verizon Pixel 1, there was a bug on Android 7.10, I believe it was, that fully just allowed us to toggle OEM unlocking on. From there it was a done deal. They patched it in 7.11. Again, from memory but it was either that or 7.11 before and 7.12 after.
And no, not likely to happen again. It would be very, very rare and like hitting the lottery. Didn't happen on the Pixel 6 Pro.

Maybe I will contact the guy doing it for the note 20 ultra and see if he thinks whatever he's doing to those phones is possible here.

The reality is that forced hardware attestation and the Play Integrity API will soon put an end to the tricks used to get around detection so people will have to figure out what root is worth to them. I decided awhile ago that I can live without it. Adb pull /sdcard does a nice enough backup job for me and Google's cloud backup pulls partial app data and will restore it where applicable.
Of course it does seem that there isn't a way to disable 5G SA on Pixels without disabling 5G altogether so I may have a use for root in the end anyway, time will tell, as I get sick of being stuck on T-Mobile's slow as molasses SA when midband is available.
Well i have rooted every other phone and rooting, installing kernel or roms solve some problem where oem is lazy or will not solve. Previously i was using OnePlus 7 pro with unlocked bootloader initially with Android 9. During Android 10 i prefer to lock bootloader again as during that time i was damm busy and getting time for root and transfer data was not possible. During Android 11 Oneplus had really ****ed up, device was getting hot like frying pan in summer. I really had no choice but to unlock bootloader and installed a stable custom rom(CR Droid) . Everything was perfect. After 9-10 months i thought i willl go to stock again and lock bootloader. But to my surprise cts profile was not getting matched. My phone was constantly recognized as Google pixel 6 pro (no NFC payment and play store dont recognize netfix) . Only safety net fix with Magisk was able to fix it. What really surprise is when i again installed Oxygen OS 10 cts profile was showing match with locked bootloader and with Oxygen OS 11,12 will show CTS profile mismatch. I really don't know what i had done wrong and there is no solution for locked bootloader.
So my suggestion is if anybody really want to unlock bootloader and have magisk prefer with your secondary device.
Is it possible to unlock 5G in another countries with root while having functional google wallet?
I only do it for AdAway. Would be wonderful if I could avoid rooting for blocking ads since it makes a few apps unusable (specificly Norwegian with no rooting community support). But I'll probably root my P7P when I get it on monday.

TL;DR - Please does anyone have suggestions on a stable custom OS ROM for the OnePlus 6 that has something akin to OxygenOS 10's Hidden Space feature and has ongoing security updates? Many thanks in advance!
So here's the lowdown. I love my OnePlus 6, but when OxygenOS 11.1.2.2 stopped providing security updates in late 2021, it was time to buy a new phone. I decided to go with the OnePlus Nord 2 5G, which from a hardware perspective was definitely upgrade (just crazy amount of RAM for the price). However, OxygenOS 12 has been nothing but a disappointment and I'm certainly not a fan the move to be more like Oppo's ColorOS.
OxygenOS's Hidden Space:
One OxygenOS feature I use a lot is the Hidden Space, which is great to store hidden apps like those for online banking and password management in one convenient place. To ellaborate for those that are unsure what I'm talking about, in OxygenOS 10 (and also versions of OxygenOS 11 for, I suspect, selected OnePlus models) this was where you simply opened the App Drawer, swiped left and unlocked with your passcode/finger pattern/fingerprint biometrics. Boom! There are all your hidden apps you were able to access quickly, easily and reliably.

This feature was made worse IMO in OxygenOS 12 where you instead had to use the stock phone call dialler to dial an visible unlock code (no other unlock options) to access the same hidden apps drawer. If that wasn't frustrating enough, if you wanted to use two hidden apps consecutively, OxygenOS 12 would send you back to the stock dialler rather than what OxygenOS 10 did and sent you back to where all your hidden apps were. Even worse, there is your viewable unlock code still populated in the call dialler for any one else to see if you didn't remember to completely close dialler app afterwards. It's like having a sign on your front door telling theives where all your valuables are and that they cans also find the spare key under the flowerpot in the front yard...

Life after OxygenOS 12:
So it's been about 18 months and I'm ready move onto a new phone. I don't think a new OnePlus phone is an option given ColorOS for Android 13/14 will be on it and that the Hidden Space is still the same as it is on OxygenOS 12. I'm thinking of going back to Stock Android (and thus the Google Pixel 7) as I have previously bought the Google Nexus 5X and Pixel 1 phones. I could be wrong and being presumptive, but Stock Android has always felt cleaner, lighter and doesn't have the bloatware that annoys me about Samsung phones. However, I've been informed that Stock Android 13 doesn't have a built-in feature similar to the Hidden Space like OxygenOS has.
As an alternative I've had a little hands-on using a different launcher app (I've tried Nova Launcher Prime and Apex) on OxygenOS 12+ with the intent to use it Stock Android too, but that solution feels unfortunately cumbersome, at least from what I experienced when using Nova and Apex.
So my next idea I'm looking into is to attempt to install a custom ROM (something I've never done before) onto my OnePlus 6. And now it's all about seeing if there is a custom ROM that fit my requirements. Is there even continuous development/patching for custom ROM's with regard to security updates? I'm freshfaced to all of this that that I'm unsure on a lot of aspects, which is why I want to try this for the first time on a phone I don't currently use day-to-day.
Anyway, any suggestions of security patch supported custom ROM's with a in-built Hidden Space feature would be gratefully appreciated!

Yesterday I have encountered with complete misfortune. I really hope on your expertise and expert knowledge in that issue. Appreciate your help and thank you very much in advance!
I have a Nokia 8.3 5G as my main working smartphone which I cherish as the apple of one's eye. I have headaches from PWM and can't use Samsung phones because of PWM and I need Android 10 as I have some work related apps which works only with Android 10.
So from the date of purchase my phone was complete brand new with Android 10 (Build number 00WW_1_110_RU) and (Android security patch level September 1, 2020) out of the box. I did not done any manual downloads and update of Android security patch level and neither Android updates to 11, 12. But last few months I started to receive irritating splashing system window with following text “Your system is out of date for 273 days, update & restart now”. While launching Opera browser the click on it's icon matched with the time of appearing that update window and phone pushed “restarting now” text with rotating circle. I fully understood that I was done here and started to press and hold power button to somehow block the execution of update but phone displayed standard boot up logo "Powered by Android" with green Android logo instead of standard white. I hold power button again and phone switched off. On the next attempt to boot it the "Powered by Android" logo remained with green Android. I understood that I now can't influence on it's update process. Now my phone with Android 12 (Build number 00WW_3_380_RU) and (Android security patch level: April 1, 2022).
I totally dislike Android 12, interface design not suits me, performance of the phone drastically decreased. And those specific software which I used for work only works on Android 10, developer of them would not make it to work with Android 12 due to platform limitations.
I never done any manual updates of Android, and Android security patch levels, strange that security patch updated by itself without my command.
There are no any information in the internet regarding of downgrading the Nokia 8.3 5G from Android 12 to Android 10. The only information I was able to find is how to downgrade Nokia 2.2 from Android 10 to Android 9, using boot slot change method, available here: https://www.techmesto.com/downgrade-nokia-2-2-from-android-10-to-android-9-pie/ I am not sure whether this tutorial applicable for Nokia 8.3 5G. I did not tried anything yet as now I am afraid to get a brick.
I consider actions of Nokia by rolling such splashing window with update without confirmation mechanism as criminal. Every person encountered with that must make Nokia liable and get case to court. Last time I encountered with such nasty situation was with iPad, I do not remember which generation it was as it happened while ago, but same situation with splashing update window happened when I tried to open Safari browser. And I was not able to get downgrade as Apple stopped signing iOS I needed.
Such actions are illegal as those Android updates are completely affects the performance. On Android 10 I had about 5.2 GB after boot and about 3.2 - 3.5 GB during work of free RAM. Now I have 4.2 GB of RAM after boot and only 2.2 GB during work. That's horrible as I lost of 1.3 GB of RAM, Android 12 decreased performance of my phone completely. Apple does same with their new iOS for older devices.
Even Samsung does not do such illegal actions, my father have old Samsung Galaxy S8 with stock Android 8 for years, he accidentally clicks every time on some system settings and asks me to revert them, but even there Samsung not uses any splash window with update, only Android update message I see from his phone is in notifications, but you have need to pass good amount of windows with confirmations in order to get Android update, so even unexperienced users are safe from accidental Android update.
It's a shame for Nokia. I would never buy anything from them again. Such technique with splash window is done by fake hacker apps and their swindler developers, every time you see some commercial such windows are appearing "Do you want to close advertisement?", but instead of closing it forces to redirect on downloading link of some virus APK or opening Google Play with malicious application.
Could you please say what I must do in order to safely downgrade my phone back to Android 10. I do not need the Root as I need to use NFC payment options of Google Wallet.
I can’t work now as applications I used for work only works with Android 10.

For Nokia 8.3, if you want to downgrade the phone back to Android 10, then you must unlock the bootloader as well after sideloading android 10 full OTA.
