You need to be in a mode where the kernel can activate charging mode.
Try booting to the download mode confirmation screen, but don't press up to go to actual download mode.

Considering I have seen these same symptoms now on several devices included the J4+ I would be pretty certain this is a totally flat battery.
The fact that you say it boots to recovery simply suggests pilot error and not actually booting to download mode. It will continue this loop until you actually boot to download mode.
You need to have the USB cable attached and then firmly hold Power + vol down + vol up until download mode appears. Ensure both vol down and up are firmly pressed.
If it flashes recovery then simply continue to hold the 3 buttons above.

I'm sorry but the way you are holding all three buttons does not ensure all buttons are correctly pressed.
I suggest holding down and power with opposing finger and thumb and up with the other finger of the other hand.
Also ensure the cable is attached to the PC. It's also worth trying a different cable.

Does your PC have the Samsung USB drivers installed?
I can't understand why it's not activating download mode.
Booting continually to recovery is a function of a bootloader flag which has been set and not cleared.
However power, vol down and up bypasses this flag and forces the bootloader to boot to download mode, so I'm a little perplexed as to why it's not working.
Might be worth leaving it bootlooping until it completely switches off and then try and boot to download mode from an off state.

My Galaxy S3 just faced the bootloop issue because of a faulty power button. I had CM12 installed, so couldn't use warranty. I opened up the phone, and cut the power switch off with a razor blade. Now, I can boot to download mode using the volume and home buttons while plugged in, and cancel download mode to boot phone. My issue is that I experienced a huge battery drain on a ROM, and dirty-flashed another ROM over it. Now, the phone won't boot. I'd like to go back to CM11, but can't figure out how to boot to recovery. Thus, this is what I need:
A way get to recovery, without using a power button, or booting up the phone

If you can boot to download mode, you can get to recovery mode. Here's how. I figured this out when my power button broke and I removed the power switch from the phone's motherboard, so it should work for you:
1. Take the battery out of the phone and unplug it from USB power.
2. Plug in USB power.
3. While holding down the volume-down button and the Home button, insert the battery (this is a little tricky).
4. The phone should start and warn you that you are entering Download mode.
5. Press Volume Down to reboot and then *immediately* push and hold Volume Up and Home simultaneously. The phone should reboot into recovery. Mine does.

Yes - thank you very much! FYI - when I read @Jacquestrapp 's instructions, I suspected the battery gymnastics wouldn't be needed since I had already learned (in this informative video) that I could boot the phone from a powered-off state WITH THE BATTERY INSTALLED by plugging in USB power and immediately depressing home and vol-down. This gets you to step #4 above, and proceed from there.
So this is cool! My trusty-old d2vzw's power button had stuck in the "On" position last September as they apparently tend to do, so I set it aside as a brick and bought a used HTC One m7. Needing a WiFi skype device for a friend, I searched and read about scraping off the S3's power button and operating without one. Now, I see how much I missed the S3's AMOLED display colors and contrast compared to the 1080p display on the m7, and I'm reluctant to part with the S3 .
Help - when pressing volume down it does not reboot.
I9300. could there be a difference in different regions?
edit: volume down switch (not the plastic bit, the hardware connectors) was a bit flimsy so I had it replaced. Still not working though.
I read the instructions wrong. I was using a USB jig to directly boot into download mode. But I need to get to the prompt before it. However, when following the steps the phone just begins charging instead.

Boot the phone, when it gets to the unlock screen try connecting it to PC and open an adb terminal then type:
adb devices(press enter, if it returns a serial number your device is recognized)
Then type:
adb reboot recovery
Or
adb reboot bootloader
Try unlocking it and typing the reboot commands while it is frozen.
Or you can order a USB jig for $5 US or less from eBay.
Or you can use an old USB cord and a 300k resistor(or any combination of resistors equaling no more and no less than 300k) to make your own jig, there are videos on YouTube for making your own jig.

I don't know if you are been cheeky or not, but I will go check if I can actually touch the option. Lol.
In case I can't what ROM can I install via Odin that will give me touch recovery. Or what other options do I have?
I really don't want to take it apart again to remove the plastic button so I can short the power leads with a wire to mimic a power button press.

Hi, try to reboot into bootloader using ADB.
First off thank you for the response.
I tried that as well however maybe I did it wrong. Is it? adb reboot bootloader or adb reboot download
It's so strange you know cause I've tried so many different ways and I thought that rebooting to bootloader from recovery menu would definitely work however all it does is reboot back to my home screen.
Power off phone and just hold down pwr+vol up+ Bigsby for like 8ish seconds and it should boot to download.
Also adb/fastboot is a second route, read through this the below link. Make sure you have the Samsung drivers installed and adb/fastboot properly installed and prerequisites. https://www.theandroidsoul.com/unlock-bootloader-via-fastboot-android/
Or try to boot in safe mode
Hold power button when phone is on, then long press power off, and then select safe mode. https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-223011/

Hi,
Recently i was trying to apply another rom to my Samsung Galaxy A7 2018 edition and i am stuck in an infinite bootloop. I cannot enter download mode with the Volume Down and Power keys and the only thing it does is showing the logo of Samsung every 5 seconds and restarts. I have tried to built a usb jig with 300k resistors and still does not boot up in download mode to flash with odin a stock firmware. Also i left the battery to drain and now it is turned off,but when i plug in the usb cable and power it up it still goes into infinite loop. Any help?
I was trying the Android 10 Magisk root for A750F and was greeted by a similar situation after ODIN rebooted my phone after flashing Magisk image.. Anyways, don't panic, try all combination of buttons. vUP,vDN,PWR or vUP,PWR or vUP,vDWN while connected to usb.. It wasn't working for me too but i tried all combinations and it landed me to download mode where I flashed the stock rom
just press those button and connect to usb
im glad i read his, had just the same issue while flashing wrong twrp on A750FN .. yihey thx budies
how did you solve this issue.

which button combination helped you. I having a similar issue. can not enter download mode.
Solution that helped me
Just Press the volume plus + volume minus + power button at once. Once the phone reboot black screen appears, Leave the power button and keep pressing the volume plus and volume minus button. It will redirect to the download mode. and reflash the room using Odin. Only use official sammobile rom file as other files may be corrupted. The issue may arise. The problem is in rom.
If any issue query me at : [email protected].

I have tried keeping all 3 buttons (vol up + vol down + power), tried holding vol up + vol down and then connecting to my PC (nothing happens, I always see the same screen (SAMSUNG Galaxy A7 Secured by Knox and Powered by android underneath)).
Tried vUP,vDN,PWR or vUP,PWR or vUP,vDWN while connected to PC via USB.
Tried vUP,vDN,PWR or vUP,PWR or vUP,vDWN while NOT connected to PC via USB.
Phone sometimes reboots but always gets into the screen I mentioned above.
Odin, obviously, doesn't see the phone either.
Also, adb devices command deosn't show the device in the list.
Anything else I should try?
Ah I solved it, and nobody mentions that you have to be SUPER quick!?
So you hold down vol down + power button and keep the USB cable at hand and the millisecond your phone reboots, reeeealy quickly release vol down and power and quickly afterwards press vol down + vol up and again quickly plug in your USB cable, if you did it before the Samsung logo appears you will get into Downloading... screen.

Try volume up (+) & the power button.....
I already tried that too, doesn't work either...
In the good old days, you used to have to have a usb plugged in to access recovery (and at one point actually also be in a recovery programme on a pc, or use a hacked together usb jig to do it on the fly). I would be surprised if they have gone back to that, but might be worth a try?
Turn device off,
Ensure one end of your USB Cable is plugged into the PC / Laptop
Press Power + Volume up
While you press both Power and Volume up insert the USB Cable into the phone.
Keep pressed and you should enter into the recovery, You used to be able to do this without the USB Cable, but recent changes made you require to plug it into a device.
Unsure if you can do this using a normal wall plug, i have never tried it.

Hi All, - I had the same problem, it would just not go into recovery mode. however a slight twist i saw on a website says to do the following and it worked first time much to my suprise..
basically the phone has to be powered on to start the process..
1.HardReset.info: At first, connect the device with the computer by the USB Type C and push Volume Down + Power button to switch off your phone.
2.HardReset.info: Then press Volume Up and Power key for a short while.
3.HardReset.info: Let go of all buttons if you see the SAMSUNG logo
4.HardReset.info: Now use Volume keys to select Wipe cache partition and confirm with the Power button.
5.HardReset.info: In the next step go to Yes option.
6.HardReset.info: At last, choose Reboot system now by using the Power button.
good luck..

Hello.
That only works with the included USB Type - C cable. It doesn't work with a USB type A cable. Both ends should be Type C.
That's why it didn't work for me earlier. I tried numerous times using the old cable from my Galaxy Note 9.

any solution??
so I just tried to install unofficial TWRP 3.5.0 on my Samsung galaxy a125m and everything went fine, Odin said done. Then I just tried to start TWRP by pressing power and vol up and it didn't start, so I thought I might have done something wrong and rebooted to download mode and flashed it again, Odin said done, then I unplugged the USB cable and now it won't boot, neither to the system or recovery, even to download mode, it did enter download mode a few times before but I pressed the wrong button and had to cancel and enter again, now it won't even enter download mode so I can't flash stock rom to fix bootloop... pls how can I solve this I'm desperate
when I try to enter download mode by pressing volume up + volume down it just shows up charging mode without any numbers, then it turn on and shows Samsung logo, unlocked bootloader warning screen, and the Samsung logo again, but then just restarts and repeats all again...
when I try to press volume up + volume down + power, nothing really happens...
someone help me please
You need to keep both volume up and down pressed, then plug in the charging cable. It should enter download mode, no need to press the power button like in older samsungs.

Your browser is not able to display this video.
Is the cable plugged into a charger and on?
Have you considered that your volume buttons may not be working?
Same hear
Try attaching your phone to the PC, and then pressing volume down + power to reset the phone, (for about 7~8 seconds) then immediately press the volume down and up buttons, that's how I recovered from it. Tell me if it worked

Please help it dosent worked
No pc detection
No download mode
No recovery
No charging
Hello, unfortunately in these cases the only solution is to enter download mode, check if any button is damaged or if the cable works and if it is well connected, press the buttons harder, hold down the volume up and volume down buttons at the same time , by pressing the strong buttons, for about 6 seconds and then connect the cable. If you don't try another cable to see if that's the problem there is no other solution as the phone is not recognized by an app that can put it into download mode when turned off the solution is the one I already told you about. I hope you have fixed that problem. Sorry for my bad English.

@physwizz
I am having a similar problem with the Samsung A12 SM-a125u
I never could enter into this "Downloading mode".
I tried flashing the stock ROM through ADB with fastboot, and I have another problem that I've never seen before: ADB can see the device while in recovery mode, but fastboot can't. And so it won't allow me to flash the ROM and I don't even know how Odin is supposed to help yet; I think I needed to enter Downloading mode for that, but I can't get into it.
I'm working on this phone for a friend who was given it because his friend's mom doesn't remember the password to it. Does that matter? It's worth noting that because of that I cannot get in to turn on OEM unlocking or dev mode, but idk why that would come into play in recovery mode. Also, the model indicates this is an AT&T phone, and tutorials online have acknowledged this model in their "applicable models" list at the beginning of their tutorials, but I know that carrier phones can cause problems all over the place (stop buying carrier locked phones people!); is this a problem?
How the heck do I flash the stock ROM to this this?
