You might have to flash system images again though if you read further down you need to reinstall Pixel launcher. Here is the pixel launcher from October update.
Q has the three button method available. Just go to settings, system, gestures, system navigation and opt for 3 button method.

You're a lifesaver! I was going batty trying to get used to the two button thing...trying to open the apps drawer, and kept getting recent apps instead. Just could NOT get used to the two button thing, and was about to make a post about it, but couldn't think of how to put it into words, lol.
Just flipped that setting to 3 button method, and now it works like it should (for me)! Thanks much!

This may be a stupid question. I just installed the AOKP 4.2 build 5.
I am wondering how to assign the hardware keys?
I want to use long press home to do voice search, recent button as menu key, and long press recent as recent apps.
Also I miss having swipe up in lock screen to access google now. is there any way to set it?
It looks like I have to enable navigation bar in order to have quick access to google now.
Please help.

HOW TO: Remove Google Search Bar

Hello!
For those who can not remove the Search Bar from the Home Screen, I found a way to do it.
This is for CyanogenMod 11, KitKat 4.4.3 Build 14/06/2014:
On the Home Screen, you press and hold the screen, untill the "wallpapers/widgets/themes" options come out.
When that happens, press the three dots that look like an arrow, it will open another menu with lots of options to change.
There, the first option you can change is the Search Bar, turn it off. Press the three dots again to minimize the menu, hit back and that's it.
Hope this helped.
This is actually pretty helpful. As I never knew there was extra features like these on the new Trebuchet launcher.
Nice find!

You are welcome!
Yes, I found it by mistake, and didn't know how to get to that place again... But once I did, I wanted to share this with everyone.
Now we don't need to change the Trebuchet launcher to get rid of that. Even though it's bugged... When getting the "trebuchet has stopped" error (when adding a widget on the home screen), I just reboot the phone, and it's working again. Although even this sucks...
But at least I'm happy I found how to get rid of that annoying search bar.

I hate Google search bar......
Thanks
I'm having the same issue. I just installed Cyanogenmod on my phone and when I was customizing the home screen, I saw exactly what the OP shows in his screenshots. However, after installing Google Apps, that screen has changed. It only shows the Wallpapers, Widgets and Settings buttons, and no button to expand settings. Pressing the menu button doesn't do anything either. In both cases I was using the default Android theme.
Cyanogenmod version 12.1. Android version 5.1.1
Cyanogenmod version 12.1. Android version 5.1.1
Same thing here, I have no dots. would be great to get rid of..
Worked this trick
This is simple trick and worked .Thanks
works for me, thanks
Android 5.1.1
Cyanogen version 12.1-YOG4PAS3JL
You are all welcome! Glad to help.
thanks
Same question; Moto g4 stock. Do I really need to install a launcher or ROM to get rid of a single UI feature?

[Q] Remapping soft keys

Right now, the soft keys on the Z3 do 'Back', 'Home' and 'Recent apps'. With my previous phone being a Galaxy S2, this is a major annoyance for me. I want my beloved menu button back . So my question is: can I remap the 'Recent apps' button to instead show the menu? I've tried some solutions like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818499, but this doesn't seem to allow customization of the soft keys I want to change. Is there anything out there that lets me do this, preferably without directly modifying the layout file? I have root so that's not an issue.
Thanks in advance

that s inside firmware itself
you can root ur device and install custom recovery to install Custom ROM like CyanogenMod
there s option for complete customization of soft-keys.

Except no roms are ready for xperia Z3 yet. Also might want to try Carbon Rom if you really liked the navigation button customization. They do a better job than CM, and have more options.

Yeah, that's kind of the issue for now: the lack of ROMs. Could this be done through Xposed or something similar was well?

u should check if Xposed module have access to SystemUI
(i don know about that module a lot)
Root and xposed will work
There is a module for remapping keys and one for adding a permanent menu key

Just give it some time. Lollipop and Xperia Z3 hit the shelves around the same time, but DEVs are more interested in getting their ROMs working based on lollipop, instead of getting a custom rom based on an old OS working for a new phone.

Glad I could help
softkeyz
therd is an app called softkeyz which is paid and requires root but you can customise everything and by everything i mean that you can customise the function of the buttons and their color
Sent from my SM-N7505 using XDA Free mobile app
coming from a Note1 i have exactly the same question. sounds like we just wait for Lollipop and learn to love back-key on the left side (perhaps that's more intuitive anyway). i still wish there was a way to generate a menu-keypress though, like a combo? a long press?
i often feel like theres a menu there, but no way to see it. is it always true that the 3 vertical dots will appear somewhere (sometimes top, sometimes bottom. grrr!) in this menu-key-less interface?
First thing I did after root... Install Xposed framework then download/install the GravityBox(KK) module. In the GravityBox settings, go to Navigation Bar Tweaks. Enable the master switch, then check the box to "always show menu key".
This will enable your menu key and still keep your recent apps key. You can also swap the recent and back button (if your used to that type of layout). And if you want even more then you can do like I do...
(in the Navigation Key Actions menu, not in Navigation Bar Tweaks)
*shrink the nav bar to 75% height
*long press back to close foreground app
*long press home to enable/disabled screen rotation
*double tap home to show a custom app launcher menu (put your fav apps n here)
*double tap back to switch to last open app
*long press menu to enable/disable flashlight
(this is just my setup, each keys long press and double-tap have multiple options to choose from)
With gravity box you can do a whole lot. You can change your battery icon to a different one but be sure to go into your phone "settings>personalization>status bar icons" and uncheck battery. If not, then when you restart you will have 2 battery icons (stock & gbox battery) in your status bar. Also, you can turn your status bar into a brighteness control, which comes in very handy, or enable song skipping by long pressing the volume keys (when the screen is off).
Just check everything out in gravity box, it has soo much to offer.

Change function of navigation keys (especailly long press home key)

Hi. I have the Chinese variant (AL00). In general I'm quite happy with it. One thing that I would like to change is the function of long press of the home navigation key. Currently, long press (with a swipe up) of the home key brings up HiVoice which as far as I can tell only works in Chinese. Is there a way to change the function of long press to start up another app without having root? I'm not interested in rooting at this point (at least until Xposed is up and running for Nougat). Also, I currently do not want to convert to international version as having Chinese version may have some, albeit small, advantages. Thanks!
Not sure if you have it on Chinese firmware but you can change it to google app, under application settings, click the settings and choose default app link.
Hi. thanks for the suggestion. I tried but it didn't work. Still get HiVoice. Hopefully it is not baked in...
One more note. OK google works fine in itself. Just don't want the current functionality given to long press home.
Have a look at Nova Launcher. I haven't tried what you want but it does have lots of options.

Thanks. I haven't used Nova Launcher for several years. Currently using Total Launcher. I'll take a look.
I tried Nova Launcher and it does allow me to reset my home button, but, I did not see an option to reset long press of the home button. Anybody know if and where there is such option on Nova?

Question Home and recent app gesture not working on Android 13

Hi, I received yesterday the latest update LE2113_11_F16 on my oneplus 9 in italy, I update from old version and find all my app and configuration but I can't use anymore home and recent app gestures ( while back gesture works ).
I tried:
-Switch to touch button instead gesture, but same issue home and recet app button not working
-Install a different laucher
-cancel data fo laucher app
The interface show touch event on the botto bar it move on the screen when drag, or the buttons show the shadow when pressed, but nothing happen, a little search show the similar issue happenend on old update too, main solution is hard reset of the phone, but someone can help me if there is another way, maybe cancel data of a system app the manage gesture
Hard reset and completely new setup , all work in the right way but I'm sure that there is a way to fix this issue after update without waste time in a new install of the phone
