Gmail ambient display android 10 - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi all..
I have the latest gmail app on the device (2019.09.15.270135155.release) but for some reason the damn notifications don't appear in the ambient display...I get all other notifications on the ambient display together with the horizon light but not stupid gmail...Is there any specific setting that I need to enable or did the new gmail update break this? It seemed to be working on the previous version...

You are not alone with this problem. I hope it will be fixed in the next update.

I downgraded to the previous release and enabled "pop on screen" under notifications..this makes the ambient display to light up when an email arrives...NOW, I don't know if this is due to the downgraded app or because I enabled "pop on screen" option...If it's because of the option that I enabled..then I must say that this has got to be the lamest implementation of ambient display!

I have discovered the reason and there is solution you have to get into notifications and enable vizualizza on screen... And the problem is solved!

Paranoid Android notification peek

This is paranoid android's notification peek in APK format. Almost same as active display if anyone wants to try it. https://github.com/lzanita09/Notifi...1.0-20140504/NotificationPeekPort-release.apk

It looks cool but I couldn't get it to work.
Looks really cool but doesn't work on GS4 mini 9190 running carbon rom
reverted back to active display
Link is dead. I had to actually look it up on Google just to see what it was. Overall, it looks nice seems to have quite a bit more functions over Motorola's Active Display. If I can find the .apk I may give it a go.

Found the latest build.
Just had a chance to mess with it. It works, but not real well. The screen wakes up when you get a notification but if you don't open the notification right then and there and let the phone go back to sleep it can not be reawakened just by moving the phone like Active Display. You actually have to turn the screen on via the power button and then unlock the phone to check the notifications bar. I did send myself a bunch of notifications and thought it was cool how I could swap between them. I wish Active Display allowed for that feature. Also, the icons are a lot nicer than Moto's Active Display. Overall, I think this app will be pretty cool once all the bugs are worked out of it.

That is the intended use of Peek - it is only active for 10 seconds after receiving a notification. In theory, the screen shouldn't wake at all unless you move the device within those ten seconds since it is designed for both IPS and AMOLED screens and prevents unnecessary screen-on time.

No what I mean is that with Motorola's Active Display if you wave your hand or move the phone after the notification screen time out it'll show you the notifications again. As long as you don't push the power button to wake and unlock it you can still view the notifications via the Active Display. With the Peek display you get the notification once and then that's it until the next notification. Moving the phone or waving in front of the proximity sensor won't rewake to check notifications from the peek screen.
Don't get me wrong, I like the PA Peek app, I just wish I could check the notifications indefinitely like I do the Active Display. I wish the Active Display would let you cycle through your notifications like Peek. I'll definitely keep an eye on the Peek app, hopefully they get it sorted to where you can wake it by moving the phone or waving across the proximity sensor.

Jittering In Call Options & No wallpaper motion effect after 5.1.1 update

Hi, I recently updated my S6 G920F to 5.1.1 Build Number XXU2POGJ
Ever since the update, the wallpaper motion effect is gone. The toggle button to turn it off on doesn't work. Furthermore, I wiped cache and now the toggle button is not even there anymore.
Has anyone else had these issues?
Also when I make a call I get the options 'Live Vid', 'Share', 'Bluetooth', 'Speaker', 'Keypad' , 'Mic'.
Before this, I used to get the option 'Add Call', 'Extra Volume', 'Bluetooth', 'Speaker', 'Keypad' , 'Mic'.
I can only see the options regarding 'Add call extra' after I press show keypad and then minimise keypad. Also when I make a call, it jitters between the two options as if the phone is confused as to which options to display.
Its really annoying :/
All of this are improvements of the last update. Enjoy!

But, I would expect Samsung to just put an option to disable it rather than remove it all together. (Regarding Wallpaper Motion Effect).
Also, regarding the In-Call options am I the only one?
Oh wow, just realized this should be posted in the Q&A section, mods can this be moved plz.
*bump* anyone else with these issues?
Wallpaper motion effect also not working in mine after update.

Latest update problem with screen auto light adjustment

We were all waiting for the new update to come but Once more Samsung has manage to destroy some things
One of them is screen auto light adjustment... At least at Exynos version
Before the update you could just adjust the bar wherever you like and then with one off - on to auto switch you have return to full auto light adjustment...
Now this is impossible
With auto on if you move the bar this setting is saved like the ideal auto lighting condition and stays that way...that means that auto lighting is working good but from the base of your previous adjustment and not full stock auto.. If you deactivate and activate again the auto switch nothing happens because of the previous "saved condition"
So that means that you can't go back to full stock auto lighting conditions...
That's to bad and it has to be really fast a new update to fix this issue...

That's actually how it works on stock Android.
I have found another disappointment change... YouTube app... The end of side to side full screen video play...if you choose to cut video for full screen it will only full up and down sides but unfortunately will leave huge black bazels to left and right (landscape view) to this beautiful bazzelless device... This is too disappointed...
UPDATE
After clean installation of YouTube app everything works OK again...
It's strange because before the clean installation I had exactly the same version with the new one with totally different interface (it was the same as my Xperia z4 tablet)
Same issue, also Exynos variant, with auto brightness and YouTube app here in Romania after the same updated. Reinstalling the YouTube app will help but only for a couple of minutes, because after that some kind of update is coming via the app it self and the full screen mode is messed up again.
Regarding Auto brightness: For me, the new behavior is the one I want and expect. I hope, it stays that way.
I have this same problem!
Poland, Exynos.

I have found a solution with YouTube app...if you don't sing in to your acount then you will never have full screen problem again...
I think that has something to do with the same version of YouTube to second devices like tablet... Because when I'm singed with both devices (s8+ & Xperia z4 tablet) I m always having problems with full screen faction... If I say unsigned then it works as it should be.... Strange things....
auto brightness problem
Same problem here too. I'm from Bulgaria, Exynos version. Any solutions ?

Weather on ambient display

Does anyone know how weather on the ambient display works? This morning, i noticed it was showing the weather. I get to work and it's gone. I don't see any settings for this. I thought it might be under the "contextual info" menu in the "Ambient display" settings, but I don't see anything there.
I did find this thread in the OnePlus 7 Pro thread, but no one seems to have a real idea of how this works. Anyone know? In the end, I just want regular ambient, always on display lol!

Android 11 Beta 2 Released

Just downloaded the Beta 2 OTA from google's site: https://developer.android.com/preview/download-ota#
Go get it!! Already downloaded and installed on my P4XL. Checking it out now.
Yup just downloaded and flashed and have root still??
Currently on it! Improvement in animation in some places, better landscape to portrait transition.
Missing clock option from themes
Music player now looks better, I think no more an experimental feature.
Final api released good for developers.
Recently screen tweaked a bit no share option anymore.
Yet to find other changes

Restart button vanished from power menu! Great
Updating my Taimen now. About to be in a meeting so I need my Coral working, do will update later.

Problems I have noticed are
The screen flickers a lot especially when using dark theme and a dark themed app.
I'm also missing new media controls.
Anyone got these problems?
does the navigation bar still remain on the home screen even on beta 2?
Flickering here too

I have the flicker issue too, media controls are there though.
I've noticed there's no longer the option to force 90hz now either in developer settings which I presume would resolve the flicker issue.

Just done a quick test and turned brightness up above 70%ish the flickering stops or just isn't noticeable.
Flicking is so annoying.. is there any fix?
Maybe custom kernel? I can't watch on this stroboscope
Anyone got Magisk working on the new beta? The canary build that was reported working on beta 1 isn't booting for me. (I never tried beta 1 myself.)
Here is my experience...
1) The flickering screen is annoying
2) I had no problems rooting via Magisk
2a) After rooting my Messages app stopped receiving messages but I was able to send them without issue
2b) I could not update apps from the Google Play store. It would just say "Downloading" but nothing would happen
2c) The Google weather widget on the home screen would not show the weather nor would it take me to Google weather when I clicked it. It seemed disabled.
I have since re-flashed the latest Beta but didn't root. All of the above issues, aside from the screen flickering, have been resolved,
Lots of flickering
Terrible flickering...
The flickering exists also at Beta 1 but only at very low brightness (environment and system brightness). Now screen flickering regardless of environment and system brightness (except at extreme high system brightness...) as long as background is not totally black.
Flickering sucks! OMG! No media controls here but do have force 90hz option still
Hopefully the flickering issues can be fixed with a 2.5 patch or maybe play services/kernel update ??

I have tried a few ways no luck yet.
As for other people the flicking screen I have it in this beta . I had it before Beta too, It's the 60hz - 90hz refresh rate. Sucks to say but if you disable it fixes the problem.
I don't see the flickering on my device. Yes to using dark mode, force dark mode, enabling 90 Hzv display (no more force), and playing a couple games at well as watching videos, reading news...
It never shows. Or else I am not recognizing it - and I'm pretty sure I know what flickering means, so....
I do use figure mode to automatically pause most of my games and SoS I don't normally use at work during work hours, so maybe that is why?
Or else something else I might have done?
From Coral, with Tapatalk
I thought mine wasn't doing it to until just now. In dark room and looking at chrome settings while using dark mode. The grey background flickers like crazy... On a positive note at least it's safe to to back to Android 10 July without face unlock breaking
Anyone who is missing the new media controls, found any way to get them to work yet?
