Just upgraded to Android 10 and when trying to use Solid Explorer, I always get access denied. I have the permissions enabled, but still get access denied. How can we enable file explorers on Android 10?

Just installed it there to see and no problems.
Same here, works fine for me. I did do a full wipe to stable, but was also working fine on the beta for me.

Since I use Android 10 (mostly tried with Android 10 custom ROMS) I only can install .APK files with the Android 10 File Explorer itself but not with other File explorers.
I tried with ES File Explorer, Solid Explorer, Root Explorer.
When I try to install an .apk file with them I just get an error saying like "no such app found".
I tried with a MIUI ROM Port (based on Android 10) for my Phone as well and there it was working to install .apk files with Solid Explorer.
Anyone else facing the same issue?
Thanks in advance!

Just test that with FX File Explorer and with that it is working without issues on Android 10.
I use ES File Explorer Pro since years... Haven't found a better one yet
No problems with Solid here at all. Dirty flashed stock 10 over 9.5.13
i uninstall the new Q file explorer and install the old pie explorer from apkmirror and my life it's easier now

No, I didn't uninstall system file manager. But I was able to fix the problem. I just downloaded version 2.6.3. This is the last version that works correctly. The newer application has changes in memory access and I think that's the reason.

If you got permission denied, that means your Android is not rooted.
How could you include Barnacle instead of "Wireless Tether for Root Users"? That's a miss, IMO.
Your list needs work. No drocap, shootme, busybox, adfree, Titanium Backup or ROM manager.

I think Titanium Backup should certainly be on that list
I must humbly protest your choice of Cache Cleaner over CacheMate. The free version of CacheMate cleans more cache and has more options than any other cache cleaning app, guaranteed. The paid version, of course, provides additional features but anyone who tries both free apps would be hard-pressed to draw a different conclusion. CacheMate cleans more cache, cleans data, SD card cache, can schedule automatic cache cleaning and has a one touch widget (paid only). That's pretty hard to beat for free.
Oh, and considering that Titanium Backup is one of the most important apps for root (or otherwise in my opinion), this list is extremely incomplete without it. The inclusion of APK Uploader over Titanium is almost laughable (not meant to be mean here). Another favorite of mine, and probably of use only to those who like to do some serious tinkering, is SQLite Editor. Even if one is not a seasoned hacker, SQLite Editor can be very beneficial as it allows editing of SQLite databases. Very cool and from the makers of Root Explorer (with tight intergtation between the two which makes this app even better).

Root Explorer can do that too, that's what the "Mount R/W" is for. SU File explorer is great too but it's paid only. Those two don't require you to go to 'options' to mount as R/W or read the root/system files. Not to mention no all phones can write to the system while it's booted so that's not something some of us are concerned about when getting a file explorer. Functionality and ease of use, that's the important stuff.

It takes a few hours before it goes live in the Play Store, but I attached the apk to the first post.
Updated the app to v1.0.1 and I removed the ability to enable KNOX notifications (not that many people would want to anyway). I did this because I was testing my own app, toggling disable and enable a ton of times and when I rebooted next, the phone wouldn't boot. Now, my next reboot was caused by me issuing an "adb reboot nvflash" to make the phone backup it's EFS and it seemed successful. Since I can't identify if it was the adb command that caused it or the enable button that caused it, I'm doing this as a preventative measure for now.
When I enabled KNOX, it gave me a message telling me I should reboot as a security measure due to an app (something like that) and I assume it's because it knew an app turned off KNOX at some point. I ignored it, maybe that was the cause, I'm not sure. My phone is soft bricked at this point, and I tried everything - using the .pit file posted by Garwynn for the Sprint version in combination with a stock tar flash numerous times with and without the Nand Erase All option checked (I tried this based on this guide, obviously didn't use any of the Verizon files), data/cache wipes in recovery - nothing. Nothing will allow the phone to boot, it always comes up and says "Process system is not responding" and then reboots itself, Bootloader says the current binary is Samsung Official but system status is custom, Odin can't even change that.
While I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, I just don't want this to potentially happen to anyone else.
do we have to run this at every boot? or is this a permanent setting?
thanks

Open terminal emulator, do this:
1) type "su" (lowercase, no quotes), hit Enter
2) Grant root access by hitting Allow
3) type "pm enable com.sec.knox.seandroid" (lowercase, no quotes), hit Enter
You will probably get a notification recommending that you reboot (it's KNOX that tells you this) and I would highly advise that you do that.
EDIT: You can also use v1.0 apk that is still in the first post, it does the same thing. It seems that the issue I had with my phone not rebooting was related to me doing an adb reboot nvbackup, but I want to confirm that when I get a new phone tomorrow before re-enabling the enable option in the app.
Works on Note 2 too
Hi,
I just want to tell you that this app works on Note 2, JB 4.3.
Thank you mate.
rooted, but no root access
Didn't work for my rooted Note 3 (was first on stock ROM rooted with Chainfires CF-Autoroot, then I flashed the Knox-free prerooted Close-to-stock Rom).
I have SuperSU installed, some root applications do work, but I got a problem with LBE security master and with Paragon NTFS&HFS+ and similar apps like NTFSmount.
Hoping that I can get rid of these apps being stopped (or in case of LBE my Note 3 just freezes) with the Knox Disabler, I tried it, but though I allowed SuperSU to give permissions, I got the attached message.
I guess that the reason for all these issues is a similar one, but I have absolutely no idea what to do. Any help is highly appreciated.
(There is also this thread about it. Since I guess it is a related issue I'll post a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46405351)

@ -viperboy-: First of all many thanks for your work!
Which suggestions you're speaking about? I granted SuperSU root access for Knox Disabler, and double checked that in the SuperSU settings.
When I start Knox Disabler, I get a small message on the lower screen area, that Knox Disabler got Superuser permissions. Then it takes 2 or 3 seconds, and I get the "Root Access Fail!" message.
I did only try the Knox Disabler so far with the pre-rooted Knox-free "Stock"-Rom, not with original Stock Rom rooted with Chainfires AutoCF-Method. And with this Knox-free Rom I do NOT get any Knox-message, but the behaviour of some apps like LBE or Paragon NTFS&HFS+ is exactly the same as with the rooted original Rom. Just without the "Prevention Information" window.
Should I flash the stock rom again? I think then I have to root again, since Mobile Odin doesn't work so far on the Note 3?
Best regards!

Which variant?
Hello,
Ever since the lollipop update I have had this unresolvable issue of apps needing to be updated, then updating them, then rebooting the device reverts back to the old version on the app. I have gone so far as to run the DOTTAT's RUU twice on my phone, completely uninstall the application then re-install it then after awhile and a reboot reverts right back to the old version which should be impossible as an uninstall should have removed the app all together.
There is no one specific app that does it, as it is random ones this time being TB.
I do have a custom prop build and a acc xml edit being used as well as the APM and % battery mods from AndyBones v6 Fluent Rom.
As I now speak I uninstalled TB, the app was removed from my app drawer and upon reboot is back installed again.
This makes absolutely NO sense.
I would love to try a custom ROM however nobody seems to want to support VVM ( visual voice mail ) for some odd reason.
Wondered if anyone else has experienced this and some assistance would be much welcome
Thanks in Advance
##### Solution#####
using ADB commands:
adb shell
su
cd /data/app
chown -R system:system /data/app
-----------------------------------------------------
Using a file explorer you will need change the owner of the /data/app folder to the system which is also shown as 1000. Make sure you allow for sub folders as well.

I had this problem also. I would delete the duplicates, reboot, update from play store and dups created again. LP seems to not like root being the owner of the dirs/files but prefers system.
In addition to the above:
adb shell
su
cd /data/app
chown -R system:system .
Haven't had the problem sense doing that. Now this is the first thing I do after flashing a new ROM and restoring apps from TiBu. YMMV, but this works for me.

chown -R system:system /data/app
Bumping the thread.
Can anyone explain what is causing this issue? It's been driving me BONKERS.... It's followed me through RUU'ing (the pre-rooted 5.0.1 RUU by dottat - thx!) and across ROMs (stock/DigitalHigh GPE/CM12.1)
The behavior is like this, for example - I'll format partitions, install CM12.1, get into system for first time, add Google account, update/install some apps, REBOOT, then everything is GONE! I need to add my Google account, re-install those apps/updates..... Everything is (seemingly) fine until reboot....
Trying the fix listed above, just curious if anyone smarter than me can explain this.... is it some condition that is established at RUU? In recovery?
EDIT: So far, so good.... I think. Executed the commands listed above:
adb shell
su
cd /data/app
chown -R system:system /data/app

Holy crap, thank you all for this. I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. So far everything is working on my end with the above posted suggestions. Thank you!
So after Executed the commands listed above and rebooting, do I need to go into the data/app folder and delete all the apps and reinstall them? or will the system automatically fix the duplicates?

You can, but DO not delete them all.
Also, depending on which one you delete, you might have to update again b/c a newer one was deleted.
Simply update again, reboot and should be fine

We're seeing this on our Samsungs here and there, the cause is unknown to us so far and just seems to happen on deodexed builds in general.
Just curious if anyone having this problem has actually looked at the ownership of the folder before applying these changes to see what they are prior to changing ownership?
I have attached a couple of screenshots. Using Rom Toolbox, you can see where you can check the ownership of the data/app folder.
I'm beginning to wonder if the problem might also be created by Rom Developers having data/app flashable folders in their builds as another possibility to what is causing the issue to container ownership.
In theory this is entirely a possibility since the custom recovery is creating the data/app folder and it's permissions/ownership rather than letting the Android operating system do so and if this is true, the permissions can be corrected during the initial rom install.

This might explain why I haven't seen this issue as I do not have a /data/app folder in my ROM.

I have a G930F and installed TWRP + rooted with no issues. I can run rooted apps off of it as well like Titanium, Greenify, CF.Lumen, etc...
Although when I try the Root Explorer in ES File Manager, it keeps on telling me "Sorry test failed. This feature cannot run on your device". It doesn't look like it's even asking for root permissions. I tried different combinations of installing/uninstalling/rebooting and they don't seem to help. Any thoughts on what to do next?
Or if this is unfixable, any suggestions on what other file manager to use? Features I'm looking for include:
- Standard search/sort/filter/copy/cut/paste/delete
- Root Explorer
- FTP/SFTP support
- Configurable shortcuts/favorites
Thanks

Hello, the quick fix for this right now is to flash an earlier build of supersu. V2.65 or v2.68.
I'm currently using beta 2.68 and all root apps works great.

I had the same problem I ended up just installing Root Explorer, too bad because I paid for ES File Explorer Pro too. If you figure it out let me knwo
I'd suggest solid explorer, very similar to es explorer but none of the app scanning and permissions crap that's recently been introduced in es.
Or just thinking out loud, would it be possible to add it to SuperSU's list without it requesting for access?

I used to have an HTC M7 with the ARHD rom, and the rom came with it by default so I got used to it. I have to admit that there are some things I wish it would do that it doesn't. But I would say about 90% of what I need is available there.
But since I am starting fresh with a new phone, I'm open to suggestions if you have another root file explorer in mind. Pretty much the only thing outside of the standard functions that I need is sftp support, so I can copy/paste files to/from my mac.

Amaze or Solid Explorer is good. ES used to be good but it turned the way of Cheetah Mobile apps and started adding useless **** to their app.

If you google ES file explorer apk old version theres a website that has every ES file explorer apk from day 1. when the version changed to 4.X.X is when they added all the useless crap and adds.

lol yeah all of those sd card analysis and home page and stuff that I don't even use. I tried Solid Explorer, that thing looks nice. no extra fluff and just has what I'm looking for for a file manager
Do you guys know of any other file managers that allows for editing the DateModified? I know Total Commander has one, but I'm not digging their interface.

I really want to install Gcam after flashing Android 10 but even after enabling unknown sources I cant seem to install it. Is this a known bug of OB1?

Don't remember how I did it, but did you try opening straight from the download notification? I think that's what I did and then Grant permission for installing apps and you're good.
I found on the beta I could only install from the play store or from the built in file manager. It didn't work when I tried to use a third party file manager or click on the downloaded file from the browser.

Okay, but how do you even have gcam working? I keep getting it stuck at the hdr processing and the image never saves.
