THIS PROBLEM IS VERY ANNOYING!! (The reason is because i didn't backup EFS before i flash Custom ROM)
And I would like to share how to RESOLVE it.
**your phone must be Unlocked Bootloader. Search Google how to do it. (Quick tip: in Fastboot mode. Type "fastboot oem unlock")
1) Download Stock MIUI 9.6.8
2) Download TWRP_fastboot_only (This TWRP only run ONE TIME, to Restore EFS and Install Official TWRP 3.3.1). Unzip it, we need boot-recovery.img file
3) Download TWRP 3.3.1
4) Download EFS_TWRP for MIUI 9.6.8
5) Download and Install minimal_adb_fastboot_1.4.3
6) Run "Minimal ADB and Fastboot" in your Desktop. Type "fastboot boot " and drag boot-recovery.img file (in step 2) to Command Prompt window. It will complete your command, like this "fastboot boot "...\boot-recovery.img". Press Enter
7) When the TWRP start up, connect your phone to PC. Unzip file EFS_TWRP, and copy to folder TWRP in your phone.
8) Go to Restore in TWRP and choose Backup folder, restore *Boot* and *EFS* and swipe
9) Now flash Stock MIUI 9.6.8 (in step 1) and TWRP 3.3.1 (in step 3)
10) Everything is OK now! Congrats. :good:
Thanks

Only with that ROM bro, because the EFS file was backed up from that ROM
I just created this account to say thank you for this solution.
My MI A1 got bricked/in bootloop after the newest update.
I couldn't flash it via MiFlash with a simple stock ROM, I needed to unlock it via the unlocker app of that MIUI thing.
With flashing successfully after, I got the same old bootloop screen.
Then I ran through the steps up until 8.
After that, I rebooted, and the phone started up normally.
So in case people managed to flash their device and do your method, there's no need to flash it again and for TWRP 3.3.1 to solve bootloop issue.
At least for me it wasn't needed.
Once again, thank you very much!!! :good::good::good:
Fantastic. Thanks friend.
My phone just got in to boot loop when I tried to reboot from magisk app. I successfully flashed stock firmware from miflash tool but still stuck on boot loop.
(my phone is bootloader unlocked)

Me too! Infact, I tried to flash pixel experience and phone was stuck in bootloop, thanks to this guide I was able to make phone working again!
You are a true hero, thank you so much!
it is showing waiting for device
Hi all,
Just sharing my experience. I own two Mi A1 phones (I just love this model and I thought I'd get a spare)
On my first Phone, I got involutarily upgraded to Pie and it wass hell to get it back. I followed a guide here and flashed someone else's EFS partition. That feels dirty to me so I decided to do things properly with my spare phone.
Here's what I did:
- Booted into the OS the phone shipped with (Nougat, good times!)
- Unlocked bootloader and booted into TWRP
- Did a FULL BACKUP. This is what I didn't do with my first one! It's CRUCIAL that you back up your phone first thing when you get it. Don't even connect to wifi, just unlock the bootloader and back it up with TWRP! IF you don't, you will NEVER be able to get back to how things truly were out of the factory. Of course you need to copy the backup to your PC for safe keeping.
- Now I went my merry way installing Lineage os, eventaully upgrading to Pixel Experience (Android 10, which turns out I hate).
- I wanted to get back to stock rom. So I booted into TWRP and did a full restore.
- Unfortunately, It boot looped.
- Flashed EFS and Boot again (from my backup). No luck, no effect.
- Flashed a stock Oreo image (V9.6.8.0.ODHMIFE) using Mi flash Tool and the "clean all and lock" option (I regretted doing this because I realized I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get fastboot again after oem lock, but it turned out fine)
- After flashing it, It was still boot looping! Panic.
- Tried booting into fastboot and succeeded (yay)
- Did a fastboot oem unlock and luckily The bootloader got unlocked no problem.
- Phone finally booted! Hooray.
Just putting this in writing for future reference in case anyone is wondering about the steps to take.

Hello everyone.
I am asking for your help.
I tried to follow the procedure described step by step until the end.
But the device keeps rebooting in a loop.
It boots up correctly, I can perform a few steps of the initial configuration and then it reboots.
What else can I try to do?
I don't have backups of my device.
Thanks in advance.

If you have swapped out the recovery firmware, for example by installing TWRP, you may have to flash the phone with the original recovery image first: Extract the required "RECOVERY.img" from an original "UPDATE.APP" file using the Huawei Update Extractor and then flash it using fastboot:
Enable developer mode and connect via USB
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery RECOVERY.img
Reboot
Then, created a "dload" folder on your SD card and placed the original "UPDATE.APP" inside. Unplug USB (important!) and reboot while holding Vol+ & Vol-. This should install the original firmware from your SD card. You will lose all your data!
Finally, you can lock your bootloader:
Enable developer mode and connect via USB
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem relock <YourPersonalUnlockCodeHere>
Reboot
This worked for me, but don't sue me if it does not for you!
I was actually able to go back to what seems to be stock and unlocked by going to the menu in Updater and telling it to download the full image. It seems to have wiped out my unlock, TWRP and root all in one swoop.

I believe I am also on FRD-AL04. Is there a difference between FRD-AL04 and FRD-L04? I got this information from this thread. This is the US version of the phone here, right? Do you happen to have the link for the stock recovery and stock rom for FRD-AL04 or whatever this is?
The only thing I could find is this link, B122 for US. Is this correct?
Please note, I haven't tested this and this was found during a google search. I wouldn't recommend using this. I am only providing it to see if we can use something like this.

Also, if you have root, you need to unroot first. After you install stock recovery and update your phone via (stock) recovery, it will re-lock your bootloader.

I'm not able to restore firmware to M version, because my bootloader is unlocked again after I've tried to revert back to stock M (L09C432B131). I don't know if this is some kind of soft brick or what, cause I can't enable usb debugging in developer options! Please, help! I am desperate...
Don't have recovery anymore. Can enter fastboot, with bootloader: unlock and frp: unlock messages.

First, download full stock firmware for your L04 (EMUI 4.1).
Once the file "update.zip" downloaded, then extract it and connect your Honor 8 to PC.
Now create a folder "dload" in the root of your SD card (If the "dload" folder not exists) and place the update.app file in that folder.
Once the file transferred then switch off your device.
Now press “Volume Up + Volume Down and Power Button” together. The update process will start automatically.
Now wait for few minutes to complete the process.
Good luck!!!

Thank you for your answer. I want go back to stock rom but with root and twrp as custom recovery.
While I was installing twrp I saved the backup of the all partition and now I would like to restore all of them unless the recovery.
Theoretically what above is correct but I don't know of there is some hide problem.
Can you guys confirm?

I used a rooting guide from the website theandroidsoul.com/oneplus-6-root, in which i followed the second method. Upon installing the patched bootfile my phone got stuck in the fastboot mode. Is there some way to repair it ? Thank you for your help in advance.

Flash stock not image & try to boot it if not works
Flash blu twrp and flash full zip throught twrp
If you are near a PC, you can use this guide. Very easy to use. Needless to say, it will delete your data. Use Flash All option once you download and unzip the downloaded file.

I was in a similar situation just like you before. I did some search in Google and download this stock rom : OS 9.0.2 PIE which included with a flash-all command file. Just unzip the downloaded file and run the batch command while your phone is in Bootloader mode. Wait for it to complete and reboot, then your OP6 will be in stock mode again.
After your OP6 successfully restored to normal stock rom, you can install TWRP and Magisk in the following steps :
1. Download Magisk 17.1.zip and copy to the OP6 internal storage.
2. Download the twrp image and zip file (installer) from blu_spark ( thread ) and
copy the twrp zip file (installer) into your OP6 internal storage.
3. Turn your OP6 in bootloader mode, and then perform the following command in your PC to boot the phone in TWRP mode:
fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-x..xxxxxxx.img
4. When you get into the TWRP screen, click "INSTALL" and find the twrp installer zip file and install it.
5. After the twrp zip file is installed, exit the current page and back to the first page. Click "ReBoot" and then choose "Recovery" and your phone will boot into TWRP recovery mode again.
6. Click "INSTALL" and select "Magisk 17.1.zip" from internal storage to install. After this, you may choose to reboot your phone again.
Do not manually reboot your phone until all the steps are completed. In fact, the only "soft reboot" is in step 5 and 6 !
Hope the above information helps !

About Team win recovery project
TWRP is an open source, community project. TWRP development is done by roughly 4 people at this point. We also have a large support community with many people who are willing to answer questions and help people with their devices either through our IRC channel or on forums like xda-developers.
Team Win was originally formed to work on porting WiMAX to CM7 for the HTC EVO 4G. After our work on the EVO 4G we wanted to work on a project that would work on more devices than just the EVO 4G and we settled on working on a recovery. Today TWRP is the leading custom recovery for Android phones.

Hi Raghu, I appreciate the work you are doing for the Nokia community!
I have a question... if I boot directly into TWRP instead of flashing TWRP over my stock recovery, is it truly necessary to reflash the stock recovery? Like for instance, I only want to load magisk on my device/create a nandroid backup and keep stock recovery and stock OS until the Android Q release. Though, from experience from other devices I have owned... booting directly into TWRP instead of flashing only is temporary and keeps the stock recovery intact. I am not sure from your tutorial if I truly need to flash my stock recovery after just booting TWRP temporarily?

if you want to get back to your stock recovery just flash your stock boot.img of the respective security patch
for example you flashed twrp on may 2019 pie
and now you want to get back to stock recovery?
so just flash using fastboot flash boot boot.img ( may 2019 boot.img)

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately, I couldn't pull my stock recovery from adb and had to use the terminal inside TWRP to pull my recovery. After successfully getting stock recovery, I patched the stock recovery (after copying) to my external SD with magisk and flashed that via adb. Magisk is now installed and I am satisfied.
Note: this is relatively the first time I am leaving stock recovery on my device vs custom recovery to keep the OTA updates. This is because there isn't much of a dev community here at the moment and not much to do on the device.

Hi,
I used to be into flashing phones back in the day but now I'm a bit rusty so my question is simple:
Do I have to unlock the bootloader first before I can flash twrp? It is a painpoint for me on this phone that there is no simple way to do that.
Thanks.

Before you can modify anything on a phone you always have to unlock the bootloader. Since Nokia does not allow official bootloader unlocks, we have to go through a paid method (see other threads about unlocking the bootloader here).
this guy will do it for a small fee well worth it ...

Android 10 TWRP doesn't work on 7.1 december update
Hey,
Thanks for all the hard work you're putting into this project, really helped me when I was using android 9.
But I can't seem to make the latest version you uploaded work now that I'm on android 10. When I try to boot the image file I'm stuck on the android one logo, no matter how much I wait.
So I was wondering if the latest update isn't supported yet or if I'm doing something wrong.
Really sorry to bother you if it's the former.
Have a nice day.

*make sure your phone bootloader is unlocked.
* make sure you downloaded twrp files from xda thread download links
* make sure you follow steps as i mentioned above
according to your info i tested again on my Nokia 6.1 Plus android 10 stock rom based on december security patch.
Nokia 7 Plus , Nokia 7.1 , Nokia 6.1 & Nokia 6.1 Plus all sources are same
so it should work on 7.1 too make sure you re flashed stock rom and test again because trying several times on same partition may corrupt and failed to boot.

I'm stuck at "boot TWRP" step as there is only the android one boot screen and I can only reboot. Though for some reason I can still use some fastboot commands (such as fastboot reboot bootloader).
I never modified the system partition on my phone through fastboot, only flashed a magisk patched boot.img when I was still on android 9.
Before upgrading to android 10, I patched the stock boot.img and did a factory reset. Then I did all the available updates through the phone update system. Never used a custom rom, so everything should be stock.
Forgot to mention but the phone isn't bricked or anything, it work normally without any issue. I just can't run TWRP for some reason.
Here's the oem information if that can help you
Thanks and have a nice day

Well i don't want to waste my time infront of sitting xda and answering questions like customer care but still yes i will help you out in this
1. just don't use patched boot images
2. Flash stock rom again for fresh start
3. If you are confused about flashing stock rom process
Go ahead to this link

Hi,
I flashed my nokia 7.1 like instructed and everything went well (though I noticed it wasn't the latest version, but that's a detail).
Went into the bootloader and tried running TWRP but still had the same issue as before (stuck on the android one boot, it was a totally stock ROM, the one provided on your other post).
So I used the boot.img from the stock ROM you uploaded and patched it, then flashed it in the bootloader and it worked.
So even though TWRP still doesn't work in the end I did what I wanted to do, so thanks for your help.
And again, thanks for all the work you're doing, sorry to bother you.
Have a nice day.
Same problem here - unlocked my sons' Nokia 7.1 today via techmestos service, rebooted into the downgraded Android, entered setup and started the mandatory Android upgrade, went through that successfully, activated ADB, got into Download mode and ran the following command:
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-0-CTL_sprout-10.0-20200109.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 1.058s]
booting...
OKAY [ 5.058s]
finished. total time: 6.116s
Phone screen changed to the 'bootloader unlocked' screen and then the usual AndroidOne boot screen appeared. But neither TWRP nor Android came up ...
The downloaded files are OK, I checked the sha1sum on both of them
Any hints what to do here?`How can I help to track this down?

TWRP went official so technically you can go to the TWRP site and download the current there
In addition to it going official, there is no need to download both the img and zip installer with it.
https://dl.twrp.me/CTL_sprout/
You can now just flash (fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.3.1-0-CTL_sprout.img).
https://twrp.me/nokia/nokia7.1.html
Things to keep in mind: If you have a PIN or Passcode you should disable it on the ROM before booting up to TWRP because of encryption.
If you flash another ROM such as Lineage OS shortly after flashing TWRP, it will replace the TWRP with the Lineage OS recovery. So you will probably have to flash TWRP again.
I hope that this works?!
i have android 9 is there a twrp image for 9?
Alas, this does not help, the same problem, the phone hangs on the logo)
P.S
executed the commands like this:
fastboot flash recovery (error issued)
fastboot boot
and successfully loaded into TWRP
NEED HELP
1. I wiped my system .. no system to load into
2. MIFLASH giving antirollback check error for all Fastboot roms
3. TWRP wont allow me to flash roms and there are no roms copied in the phone. getting error while copying files to the phone via TWRP
any solution ..
other than removing antirollback check in the roms .. ?

It seems you still on stock mi flash recovery, if your bootloader currently still unlocked.
You have to:
1. Go to fastboot
2. Flash TWRP again
3. Without restaring the device, reboot TWRP by using button combination: power off the device, press and hold volume down button until you see twrp screen
4. Format all data using twrp (option enter yes to confirm)
5. Reboot recovery using option reboot in TWRP recovery
6. Plug in pc to copy rom and flash.

the phone wont boot to twrp it will just go to fastboot
twrp wont load through volume down and power button
Seems like you lost TWRP
Reinstall twrp
Code:
Fastboot flash recovery twrp.img (use your filename)
Fastboot reboot recovery
Then when your in click the top right icon which says wipe. Here click on the right button I forget what it says I think it says wipe data. Next screen will ask you to type out the word "yes" you have to do this. You will lose all your data on the phone.
Now provided you have the drivers correctly installed you should see your phone as accessible from your computer. Paste your rom into the drive from your computer to the phone drive.
Once completed, go back to your phone you should be on the main menu click on top right it should say install. I believe you'll be in root directory you have to navigate to sdcard. Look for sdcard folder.
You should see the Rom you copied over, install it. It should take 5 to 10 minutes. Once complete reboot to system. First but will take some time maybe 5 to 10 minutes let it do it's thing.
Your done. If you want magisk, there are lots of guides here to do that as well

Mtp is ok no issues. Photo is broken can't see what you posted. Try wipe on the left button. Don't wipe system. Did you have a pin code setup for your phone to get in the phone are you entering this pin code when twrp starts? You should enter this pin/password

I'm doubt that you have unlocked Bootloader, that's really a big problem here...
If your bootloader is unlocked, our mentioned steps should work fine.
Did you really unlock bootloader? And didn't locked it again accidentally while using miflash?

Unless you use custom MIUI rom, stock MIUI always overwrite TWRP.
BTW, if you flash official China Dev rom, no need to flash GAPPs, just install additional play store apk (plus additional latest play service framework if needed) from apkmirror, all other necessary things installed by Xiaomi already.

@Shadow Of Leaf, Thanks for your work.
I tried to flash the .img file today using fastboot command and for some reasons my F1 reboots to system, not recovery.
The fastboot flash command completed OK for both Sending and Writing but when I tried
fastboot reboot recovery
the phone reboots to the system.
I also tried
fastboot boot TWRP-3.5.2-F1.img
but get the same result.
Any idea what went wrong and how to fix it? TIA.

Thanks for the prompt response, appreciate it.
I was not clear in my previous post, what I meant was I tried 2 ways
1. flash using fastboot flash command, and
2. boot directly using fastboot boot command
and both times I could not get TWRP to run.
Here is the output of the first method:
When I click on Vol- while the device was rebooting, I saw the boot logo andn then a screen with Chinese menus on the left top of the screen. Weird!
May be the file was not written properly? I tried to redownload the file twice but same thing happens.

did you unlock your bootloader ???
if yes when flash try the power and volume down combination to go recovery
if not try this
Unlock the bootloader (will result in a factory data reset and a warning message on the boot screen) YOU LOSE YOUR WARRANTY BY DOING THIS!!!
a) Enable Developer options
b) Enable OEM unlock and USB debugging. (Install ADB drivers on your computer)
c) Connect your phone to USB and in a command window type adb reboot bootloader
d) Type fastboot flashing unlock
e) Confirm your decision on the phone (You can re-lock the bootloader with fastboot flashing lock)

It appears that flashing went OK, as reported by the 'fastboot flast recovery...' command. But when I try to go to recovery with Power+VolDown combination the phone just could not run TWRP!
I am not sure if it is related but after power off, when I try to reboot with Power+Vol Down (or Up) combination the boot logo appears then disappears (looping?) and I do not see a boot menu (as shown in a YouTube video). When I reboot from fastboot it seems to go to some boot program with a Chinese menu.

@Shadow Of Leaf
Appreciate you prompt help!
Not sure what happened but I retried one more time and guess what it works this time . Thank you so much!
I notice that it takes long time to show the menu and it looks like TWRP tries to decrypt data, even though I already did a factory reset.
Now I can root and install custom ROMs. Thanks again!

you welcome anytime
Hi thank you so much for your work.
But when I try to flash recovery and suddenly, when I type fastboot reboot recovery , it says something like can't get recovery partition unable, and then when I go manually into recovery I get stock one.
Of course the flashing of twrp recovery goes all well, so it's a strange issue. Just one time after the flash I successfully got twrp but lost after reboot and I didn't have internal memory mounted.
Can you help me?
Thanks

that's the error:
fastboot: usage: unknown reboot target recovery
I tried but can't access recovery, I need to plug out the cable before pressing vol up?

just go to stockrom and type adb reboot recovery
I solved flashing the twrp by another person, currently on phone so can't see who was.
Anyway it appears that was an issue with decryption, because that twrp can see internal storage. Flashed all and will send feedback in appropriate thread ;-)

hello friend, could you tell me what process you did to compile a twrp for your umidigi, I wanted to make one for my umidigi a9 pro 2021, it has the same processor as your device.

you can use this guide to build twrp for your device and use this device tree thats is compatible with your device and has a newer vendor (mine is comptable with old pie vendor that will have issues with data encryption)
link of the guide : https://github.com/ADeadTrousers/twrp_device_Unihertz_Atom_LXL/blob/master/docs/HOW-TO-BUILD.md
links of device tree : https://github.com/ADeadTrousers/twrp_device_Unihertz_Atom_XL_EEA
Common device treehttps://github.com/ADeadTrousers/twrp_device_Unihertz_Atom_LXL
you have to change the common device tree and the device tree to your device
