Hello all!
I've recently submitted a GPL source request for the Moto Z4 (foles). Specifically for build PPF29.105-25-13. I'd like to gauge interest in releasing a port of TWRP for the Z4.
Update(10.08.19) - Kernel source has been released. I've started development of twrp for this device.
Thank You,
GirlsGoneAndroid
Count me in. I'm already modding mine like crazy TWRP is essential for me @ this point.

It looks like PPF29.105-25-13-2 got pushed out. Does anyone know what exactly the update contains? I haven't had a chance to check the changelog.
I've also reached out and requested PPF29.105-25-13-2 as well now that that's been pushed out.

Yes I just updated, the release notes just say it updated the security patches through August 1st. Thats the only update it appears.
Grr I wish I had gotten the non vzw version. I'd be working on it now. But Verizon's deal was to good to pass up when it launched
Thank you for your efforts! Excited to get some root/custom roms soon

This as well....
I've got a minimal twrp built. I have not had time to test it yet. Please do not flash it or install it yet! Only temporarily boot it to test it. I make no guarantees of safety. I'm not responsible for bricked devices...etc. If you'd like to help you can temporarily boot to it using these instructions.
Download twrp img
[URL Removed Test build did not work. removing for now.]
Boot your moto z4 to the bootloader (adb reboot bootloader)
Boot to the twrp image temporarily (fastboot boot foles.img)
If you are able to boot to the image please pull the recovery log! (adb pull /tmp/recovery.log)
Paste the recovery log to a pastebin website and post the link.
I'll continue to work on this throughout the week. Please only follow these steps if you're comfortable with adb/fastboot and can recover your phone to an operable state if something goes wrong.

So I gave this a try today and I get the following:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot boot foles.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 0.342s]
booting...
OKAY [ 10.238s]
finished. total time: 10.583s
Does not boot into TWRP and boots normally instead. Tried this many times with the same result. I have my bootloader unlocked and USB Debug enabled.

It's not that TWRP gets installed, you can boot to the recovery and then flash the zip file.

First make sure you have TWRP version 2.3.1.0 or 2.3.3.0 recovery, if you have the old version it will brick your device when you wipe data. Next you need to download the latest Asus full firmware from Asus site. Go here http://www.service.asus.com/ then click on download, then type in search box tf700 hit search, then pick tf700, then pick O/s is Android, click on firmware and find the correct SKU for your region like US for United State, under neath you see a icon of a floppy disk called "Global" click on it to download. Asus site is slow to nagivate so be patient. Once you download the zip file, first unzip it to another zip file, then copy to your sdcard, then boot into twrp (the recommended version), then flash this zip, once done, you will lose TWRP because this is a full firmware with JB bootloader. You need to fastboot back TWRP, then use twrp to flash Cleanrom. That's it!! Just ask if still need help.
Well I finally got the asus website to download the file for me.. Chrome issue I guess..
I then got lucky when I flashed it because I have No Clue what version of twrp I have.. lol I just flashed it with goo manager so I am amusing latest. This is my first experience with these asus products.... sorry for the ignorance. (only moto and samsung devices in the past)
It says right on the NV flash page to not use it with post 9.4.5.30....
"'THIS ONLY WORKS IF YOU HAVE A PRE 9.4.5.30 BOOTLOADER"
That is what I had, now I have 10.4.4.25... um 9 is < 10 right?....
Even though I used OTA root keeper I lost root too, I guess I have to start over from here.....?
Thanks!

No, you unlocked right? read my instruction you need to reflash twrp then you can flash custom rom. You can follow instruction from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1938129 start with section 2, make sure you download the latest twrp (2.3.3.0 goomanager won't help you here).
I am unlocked. I will have to use the fastboot method to get twrp again right? Is there another way? My computer has been having issues with ADT, since you can't just get the good ol SDK anymore....
I'll try anyway..

Eventually you will need to use fastboot/adb, so I suggest to get it working. Once it's working it only take a few seconds to flash twrp. In the future when Asus release another firmware with a different bootloader, you will need to do the same again.

do fashboot reboot command to reboot. BTW, you flash the 2.3.1.0 or 2.3.3.0 version of TWRP right? if not may brick your device if you try to wipe. Once boot into twrp, please check the version.

Edit2:

Edit3: Worked, time for Clean Rom then ubuntu. LOL
Thanks for all your help, and for not being a typical XDA a$$.
You could have just updated to the 10.4.4.25 bootloader in post 2 of the cromi thread from twrp.
I finally managed to flash a working version of the COS version 1.2 to my OPO 64GB (China set) and it works fine except now i notice my bootloader is totally locked and i've tried 2 other tookits from XDA and manually tried to unlock the bootloader using command but still unsuccessful.
Has anybody got any experience with this?

It might be helpful if you could provide a little more detail...
With ADB setup and your phone is fastboot mode, please connect your phone to your PC and run the following:
Code:
adb version
What is the output?
Code:
fastboot devices
What is the output?
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
What is the output?
What exactly is making you think you're locked?

Might be a small thing and might not help... but can you run "fastboot reboot" after the oem unlock, let it boot into Android, then reboot into fastboot mode and try to flash recovery?
Remember that when you oem unlock you wipe the device.

If it's auto rebooting into recovery after the unlock, something is definitely wrong. Sorry, not really sure. It should reboot into whatever Android build you've got installed. In TWRP did you try re-flashing whatever build your device came with... try to start fresh? I know you can download the CM 11S builds right from CM, not sure about ColorOS.

Hi I just bought a XT1039 today and it came with the new 5.1 build out of the bos.
I've been reading the forums and it seems like there's no sure way to root and/or flash TWRP on Lollipop?
Does anyone know how I can do that? Or do I have to roll back to Kit Kat or something? Please help!

No idea. It works fine on my XT1039. Try "fastboot boot twrp.img" to see if it starts that way. If it does, you could try copying twrp.img to the phone using adb push or mtp, then flash it to the recovery partition from twrp's "install image" feature.

Try downloading the stock image and installing that from fastboot. If you are on a Verizon one and on 7.1.1 you are out of luck for root if you bootloader isn't unlocked.

I stupidly tried to use Chainfires root method on my pixel by flashing boot-to-root.img. I am now stuck in a bootloop and I have no idea how to fix it. I can get into the fastboot page I think it is called by holding the volume down and power buttom. How can I fix this? Sorry if it is a dumb question. I tried using adb but don't know how it works and I get the error 'error: device '(null)' not found' when trying to do 'adb reboot bootloader'.
I really appreciate if anyone can help me. I am freaking out

Ok, stop freaking, this is very fixable. Assuming you have the Google version, or the Verizon version unlocked.
Short answer, we are going to get it into fastboot mode and we are going to flash you back to stock and probably save your data.
First, we need to make sure you have the correct version of Fastboot/ADB. It must be from GOOGLE.
https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html
Unzip that onto a spot on your desktop.
Then go here and download the latest image for the Pixel. I am assuming you are in the US, get 7.1.1 (NOF26V, Feb 2017) for the Pixel.
https://developers.google.com/android/images#sailfish
Unzip that into a the Platform folder you made above with the fastboot tools. When you are all done it should look like the picture below. The highlighted items are the items that came from the Factory Image you extracted in step two. Everything else is from the platform tools.
Now RIGHT click 'flash-all.bat' and edit it. Near the end...look for the -w and take it out and save it. Removing that is what is going to save your data.
Power down your phone, restart it in bootloader mode. Power and Vol Down. Connect it to your computer and then double click 'flash-all.bat'.
That will take you back to stock unlocked and all your data and settings will be there.
Get past that and let us know. Then we will get you properly rooted. Yea, you used the wrong root process.
I love you <3
Thank you so much. I stupidly was trying to flash a file that wasn't an image file! I really appreciate your help man I don't know what I'd do if it wasn't for you.

No thank you! I figured that out pretty quickly with TWRP and I am happily rooted now Quite a different process after jailbreaking iOS for 8 years. Thanks for your help!

Do you have a link to rooting with TWRP? I've found several rooting posts but most talk about rooting via fastboot.
Thanks!

No link handy, but here is how I do it. And yes, it is via fastboot, only way I know of at this point.
Download 2.7.9 SR3 SuperUser and copy it to your phone.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
Download TWRP RC1 and copy it to your fastboot folder.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/development/twrp-alpha1-pixel-devices-t3500312
Using other versions than above will bootloop you. Reboot the phone into bootloader mode. Power and Vol down.
fastboot BOOT twrpFilename.img Where twrpfilename.img is the name of the TWRP file you just downloaded. Note is says boot in the command, not flash.
That will boot the phone into TWRP. Select Install and install the SU zip you copied to the phone above. And reboot the phone, done.
Thanks! That worked.

I have completed the steps that you listed however the phone did not do a thing. Is it not possible to unlock the bootloader on 7.1.2? Am I doing something wrong? I can elaborate more if you need.

If it is a Verizon phone, no you can't unlock it. If it is a Google phone to unlock...below is a decent link on how to. Except use the ADB Fastboot tools I link to in the third post of this thread.
https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/unlock-bootloader-your-google-pixel-pixel-xl-0174627/
And be aware, when you unlock it...it will wipe all the data on your phone.
My pixel (stock, not rooted) is boot looping after the May OTA updates. Google support says to take it back to the store as it's still under warranty. Would the above fix work for my phone? Is it worth it, or should I just get a new one? This is already my second pixel as the first one died abruptly after 3 months.

Is the bootloader unlocked? If so I would certainly try flashing stock first. It can't hurt, and moments ago my Nexus 6 that I keep for backup was doing the same thing after the OTA. I just reflashed stock and it is fine now.

I think so, but am not 100% sure. Was bought unlocked from a retail shop. (Sorry, am a bit of a newb!)
So please let me understand
I am on 7.1.2 april (N2G47E), and if I want to update to may N2G47O the steps are:
- sideload ota
- flash new bootloader from may factory image
- twrp RC1 and supersu 2.79 sr3
Does this work or do I have to make something different?

On my device (TA-1012)[Single sim 128gb/6gb], I have exactly the same patches on a and b and both work like a charm with their specific images... Just redownloaded and tested it again...
To narrow down your problem further:
Did you flash anything else? Is your device booting normally when just rebooting? Root? Twrp?

1. could reflash the 4.88 Stock Image
2. Turn off automatic update
3.follow this Upgrade guide over and over again

4. Afterwards send me the stock_boot_(randomstuff).gz Magisk generates as Backups in the folder /data or (only viewable with root explorer) AND a screensho of the file creation dates so I know which is which...
I would then upload them and add them to the thread to help others with your model...

Thanks for the replay! My device is TA-1012 [4/64]. I haven't flashed anything. I neither have TWRP or root. When rebooting it is showing the warning that my bootloader is unlocked (offical method). But i noticed something strange. Maybe you will laugh at me  but the thing is when i boot the phone and the warning pops up it says to press the power button to continue but that doesn't work. I have to wait to boot itself. In the other hand when i boot the stock images you provided the power button works and when i press it, the warning disappears and the android logo pops up. I dont know if this was helpful in some way but i wanted to mention it. Also i will post the backed up img soon that you wanted up there.
Ok so i came up with another idea. I forgot to mention that all these steps i did on Linux so i have Windows also and switched to see if the things are the same. When i enter in cmd, adb recognizes the device without problem. When i write adb reboot bootloader everything is fine. BUT when i write fastboot devices when my phone is in download mode , nothing happens. When i try something like fastboot reboot or fastboot boot xyz.img it says <Waiting for device>. I tried adb and fastboot installer but again nothing. I cannot find nokia drivers, but in OST LA there are 3, i installed them and again nothing. So what should i do?
Edit: It worked when i downloaded new version of adb and fastboot CLI but again - booting the oct img even in Windows cmd makes the phone stuck on android logo

Do you have access to another pc to try it on?
Switched out cables/ports used?

I've switched ports, tried another pc even with different OS (win7). Downloaded the newest adb and fastboot binaries from Android Developers site - nothing. Also i ran a test in fastboot and its says:
bootloader unlocked: true
critical unlocked: false. But i dont think critical is necessary, isnt it?

I think i should try to flash the stock firmware provided in the forum i think it was the June one. Maybe that will make my device able to flash your images
I have similar issues. I have ta-1012 4/64. When it was of september patch, no september image worked (modified or not), it stucks at "android powered" logo. This is the volatile booting which is performed by "fastboot boot" command.
I use a linux desktop. I tried the latest fastboot executable which came with android-studio and also the one on archlinux android-tools package. (they are a bit different) Results are same.
Now it has october patch. No success with october boot images, too
