Hi - I did a TWRP System/Data/Boot backup of my OP7P about a month ago, and decided this weekend that I needed to go back to that image.
When I did a TWRP restore, everything looked fine, but after rebooting ... I was stuck in Fastboot Mode (just like in this thread). Fortunately, I was able to get my OP7P again, but I was panicking for a while!
Since that TWRP backup / restore didn't work, I wanted to find out what I did wrong.
How do I properly do a TWRP backup / restore on the OP7P without bricking my phone?

I also believe there is some trick to the Slot A/B thing. Like you need to flash to both slots? Never had to restore a TWRP backup on this device yet. So I'm just passing on what I can remember reading.

After update I lost wifi.
Fortunately I made a twrp backup
Unfortunately the restore failed (stuck at restore boot).
First I have to revitalize with guac recov tool.
Later I want to restore backup - how?

It happened to me too recently. Actually I'm on Beta5 on my 7Tpro McLaren and want to try a rollback to stable release due to some problems (black crush and bad dark levels), just to know if they are software related because I have no memory about how it was when on Stable ROM.
Now I'm unlocked, rooted (Magisk) thanks to All in ONE Tool. Recovery is stock because I'm not confident on flashing TWRP. Differently from my old OP5T there are two partitions and I don't know how to handle them.
Furthermore, when I boot TWRP it doesn't find all partition. For example it says data partition is 0MB.
Any suggestion?

I am able to backup and restore on my OP7T HD1910 with TWRP now. If anyone needs some advice/help feel free to message me and I'll try and help you out. It took me a lot of testing to figure out and it's not easiest thing to do or the quickest but it is possible!

I am sorry if this is the incorrect place to post, but I have a very annoying issue with my OnePlus One!
A few days ago I took the OTA update from Android 4.4.4 all the way to 5.1.1. However, there are quite a few bugs with this version, and the "Material UI" is seriously getting on my nerves so I would like to revert back to my previous version. This should be doable because I performed a Nandroid backup with TWRP before updating the phone. My backup is saved on a USB stick which I connect to the phone via a USB OTG cable, which is perfectly mountable in the Recovery.
My phone is rooted and WAS running TWRP Recovery before I upgraded to Lollipop, this replaced TWRP with Cyanogens stock. When I re-rooted my phone I had to reinstall a custom recovery. For some reason, ADB installing TWRP was just not working (No errors, it just didnt install no matter what) so I opted to try a CWM recovery which did the trick.
Now my issue is that my recovery is unable to mount /sdcard which prevents it from performing backups or restores.
I could really use some help here.
Did you update your backup (TWRP?) as well? What version of it are you on?

I am not sure what you mean by updating the backup. The backup is backed up and left in the state it was when I took it, that is to say Android 4.4.4 and the version of TWRP (The date I installed TWRP the first time) is mid February 2015.
The phones recovery right now is PhilzRecovery which as far as I understand is CWM. Latest version.
Try installing twrp from the CWM recovery.. And before restoring the phone from nandroid try installing the clean stock rom at 4.4.4 and then do the nandroid restore.

And to do this, I would just drop the .img for TWRP into my phones storage and chose it from inside the recovery? Would this really work? It might be my inexperience, but it sounds somewhat risky.

Don't know if CWM recovery supports installing img. Twrp supports img flashing. Check the features of CWM recovery and proceed.

From here I selected the TWRP-backup I kept and it installed it successfully (With one note, that it during the installation said something among the lines of "Restoring backup without deleting /data/media" or something like that. The phone rebooted itself after it finished updating, and the old Cyanogen/OPO bootanimation plays. But at login (My device is encrypted since long) it tells me my password is incorrect?!
How could this to happen? I've only ever used a single password (numbers only) for my phone encryption. This is very odd.

I guess it's a side effect of restoring up a backup of 4.4.4 on lollipop. Try factory reset from twrp and then flash the backup. I would still suggest to first install the stock firmware of 4.4.4 and flash it and then do a restore of 4.4.4.

I have an o2 UK 6039Y on Lollipop and want to upgrade to MM. OTA won't work with this version. So far I managed to root, install TWRP and recover fastboot commands (they were missing). I have not seen any official MM roms on the forum, there are some like:

Can someone explain to me please if I'm going to lose root, TWRP and fastboot by using the above? I assume you do with the first link and then it is hard to get these back, but I would not with the second link? I am after as stock experience as possible, using the phone for work and I need stuff to just work. Also if anything goes wrong or I can't use any apps I will need, will I be able to restore the backups of Lollipop I have taken with TWRP to roll back to Lollipop?

Backup those two in Recovery. If you want your data back, Backup /data. If not just backup /system. You might have to factory reset the phone though. Again, might.
ended up using Person78 script to do the full backup. Flashed his Rom, all working well.

My OP6 has the TWRP 3.2.2 installed, with OOS 5.1.9 and Magisk. I would like to try out the new HAVOC rom, so i have done a full TWRP backup of all the partitions of the phone, and another one with only the BOOT, SYSTEM and DATA partitions.
But I have many doubts about the reliability of the TWRP restore: I read several posts related to bootloop and failures. I would like to avoid having to reinstall the whole phone from scratch.
Has anyone successfully full backed up and restored on the OP6 with TWRP? If so, which partitions did you backup?
The alternative would be to use Titanium backup, but the restore procedure would be much more complex.
I want answers about this as well. What partitions do we backup? What's the process to restore? I tried backing up everything then restoring it and i got a blank screen when I was suppose to see the boot animation.

Our TWRP is very buggy i tried to restore whole backup using twrp and it failed showing error. But somewhere i got solution in xda.
Backup only data, system and boot and restore it will work.
But for safety always keep one extra full backup of all things like efs,modem, data, system, boot, vendor. Because sometime if something goes wrong u have rescue operation always there
Since this device is super easy to unbrick if needed I personally only keep a data backup of each ROM I use on my flash drive.
So I don't need to do a full setup when flashing a different rom.
Otherwise if something crazy happens and the device gets bricked, it's fixable with a PC.

First I have an admission - I'm 82 so my memory is not as good as it was. I have been using smartphones for some years now including flashing recoveries and operating systems. This time, however, I have got myself into a real mess.
I have a OnePlus 6 and just recently there was an OxygenOS update from OnePlus which I installed in the normal OTA way. It was only a little later that I realised that I'd updated from Oreo (8.1) to Pie (9) and there was not a version of Xposed for Pie. I want Xposed so I decided that I wanted to downgrade to Oreo. It didn't occur to me that it would be any more difficult than re-flashing the previous version of OxygenOS. I now realise it isn't that easy or, at least, it doesn't appear to be.
Having flashed Oreo the phone wouldn't boot. It got as far as the boot animation and stayed there. I thought the best thing then would be to try and get back to Pie so I reflashed that. At least the phone now booted but I soon realised that some things weren't right. For example if I turn on wifi it turns off again after about two seconds so I can't use wifi at all.
I'm not sure what to do now. I do have a TWRP backup for both Pie and the previous Oreo. Would it be possible to restore one of those (preferable Oreo)? I'm a bit nervous about trying that as I'm not sure how much wiping/restore I'd need to do. There is the Vendor partition (I've not seen that before) and I would be very nervous about wiping and restoring the boot partition which now, I believe, contains the recovery.
I hoping that some kind person will offer some advice to put me on the road to recovery (No pun intended).
First of all, I'm impressed that you have done as much as you have (or even wanted to for that matter) at 82. Most older people I know (I'm 42 btw)barely know how to use there phones in the os, much less know what recovery is, lol.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure I've read that with you go backwards to Oreo from pie, you need to do a full wipe including storage. Did you do that?

No, it was something I was trying to avoid. I was working on the assumption that as going from Oreo to Pie didn't involve any loss of data/internal storage then going from Pie to Oreo wouldn't either.

As I said above I was trying to avoid wiping data/internal storage but if that is the only way then I'll have to do it. I do have a backup of my internal storage so I can replace that easily enough. Would my Oreo backup be of any use after the wipe to restore my original data setup? That version of OxygenOS was 5.1.11 so could I get back to that?

I would think that should get you back to where you were. I have not personally been through these specific steps, but seems logical. It's def worth a try.

I think that's kind of understood at this point. However, I see no problem with restoring a Oreo backup once he's back on Oreo.

Almost. You are missing one thing.
1. Flash the roll back firmware
2. Install TWRP using fastboot
3. Flash, using TWRP, OxygenOS 5.1.11
4. Before rebooting, FLASH TWRP IN TWRP (This is important, as flashing 5.1.11 will overwrite recovery)
5. Use your TWRP backup
6. Do what you need for files you want on internal storage.
Don't forget to flash TWRP after you update to 5.1.11.
Not having much luck. I flashed the roll back firmware, and twrp, then rebooted but I got the boot animation again and it wouldn't go any further. I re-downloaded the firmware again, in case there was any corruption, and re-flashed it without flashing twrp but got as far as the boot animation again but no further.
Whilst in TWRP I used the file manager to look at internal storage and nothing had been wiped from that.
I'm not sure what to do now so any suggestions would be very welcome.

Fastboot working correctly - try flashing the fastboot Rom. Hopefully that will put you back to square one where you start over. Complete wipe though!

Use the fastboot ROM recovery. It works (I've used it twice) no data wipe.

That does sound rather hairy especially as I don't know which one I'd need to use. It does mention that it should not be used to upgrade or downgrade and I'm not sure that I, or my phone, knows which version is currently installed.
ADDENDUM:
I decided to try one more thing of my own. I wiped data and re-flashed the Pie version of OxygenOS then rebooted.
:laugh: It booted and seemed to be working properly i.e. I could use wifi and the time doesn't keep being lost.
I have now installed Blu Spark TWRP and restored my 'data' backup and I am now back to where I was before all this started. It isn't really where I want to be because I have no Xposed but it is significantly better than a non-booting phone. I'll just have to wait for a new version of Xposed (if such ever appears).
I really don't know why those other suggestions didn't work.
Very many thanks to all those who offered support; it certainly does give a morale boost.

Hey, last week or so I upgraded my onplys 6 to the official android pie. I didn't like it so I wanted back to my previous official android ROM(lastest oxygen) from onplus6, So I tried to flash twrp again. But My phone went straight into QUALCOMM Crash Dump for some reason. After few hours of googling a solution I got twrp again. I tried to restore my backup (still on Android pie) and I flashed my full back up. When it was finished i rebooted my phone and only got a black screen while only the LED was blinking. It was basically bricked. After another few hours of searching I got an solution to unbrick my phone. Now I'm back on oxygen 5.1.5. my question is, how do I back up my previous backup? Just wipe cache en dalvik en flash only the data from my backup? I would really appreciate to hear some tips.

First of all its nearly impossible to restore a nanroid backup through twrp on an encrypted device, secondly, you said you are on 5.1.5 which is oreo you cannot restore a pie rom when you are running oreo anyway and vice versa, the only way I could successfully backup and restore through twrp was to go decrypted, hope this helps.

I forgot to mention I also tried to restore my backup on the current oxygen I am. And it also didn't work (also black screen while only the led was blinking).

***How did you manage to get twrp installed again without the crash dump?
Keep the backups simple. Just system data and boot, nothing else. And don't backup the system or data images. Should restore fine, it does for me anyway.

Question. Why not backup data images? I know twrp doesn't let you by default now, but I'm just curious..

Keep the backups simple. Just system data and boot, nothing else. And don't backup the system or data images. Should restore fine, it does for me anyway.

Do I need to wipe dalvik and cache before I restore them? And thank you for you comment

Doing so for me cause the device is corrupt message when booting.
