Best Camera for PIE based custom ROMs? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hi there,
is there any good and working camera for S7 flat?
- I have tried few google cam apps with no success, all of them are freezing the device: black screen resulting soft brick and autorestarts after boot, till I dont remove it...
My aim:
to stay on an Android 9 Pie based rom, with acceptable camera app
- I'd like to install a stock samsung camera or googlecam which works, and takes nice photos. "Open Camera" seems to be okay, but the photo quality is not the best, noisy images...

Which Camera App Do You Use?

The on-going debate about the S3's camera when using Touchwiz vs. an AOSP ROM made me wonder about the camera apps itself. Which camera app do you primarily use? Coming from the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, I actually miss the AOSP camera app (where you have the touch-wheel that lets you adjust settings on the fly). The stock TW camera app isn't quite as intuitive (e.g. to change white balance, I have to press the Options button and scroll down through a litany of settings just to change it).
I've been tempted to try OTHER camera apps, like Camera MX. Does anyone have a preference?
Snap camera. Easy. Love it. There is a thread here somewhere where the developer is active in it.

I had been using this camera https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.moblynx.camerajbplus&hl=en until getting onto 4.3.1, whenever I use a 3rd party camera, it's fails and then no app can connect to the camera, I have clear the cache and dalvik cache to get the stock camera to work. But if the the jb+ camera works for you I'd recommend it. I use this camera when I'm not in a rush https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.pro&hl=en (there's a lite version too I think) It just gives you complete control of your camera. It's great for arty fartsy stuff but if you need to take a quick photo it might not be the best the app.
Stock Camera
I use the stock camera, but I just downloaded VSCO Cam, I'll see if its any good.
sspencer10
KITKAT 4.4 From the best! sspencer10 best rom for 4.4 try it out hes doing a great work on that room 4.4 camera is running very smooth i love it but i alwayz keep my stock camera hehe
Currently using stock AOSP 4.4 camera, but I have withdrawals from TW camera, and dreams of the Note 3's camera. Anyone know of a camera the has slow/fast motion, panorama, multi-shot, and HDR modes?
camera fv-5 excellent. lots of options but perfect Samsung note camera that's on most roms

Can't acheive FULLY functional Photosphere camera on 4.3 ROMS

Hello,
I apologize if this topic has been covered in another thread. I looked and couldn't find the information that I wanted.
I am Stuck on TW roms because I can't get any of the Photosphere enabled cameras to be fully functional on any 4.3 AOSP roms.
I think I have tried them all. No matter the camera app/rom/kernel combination that I try, the camera always force closes or reboots my device when I use any of the front facing Camera/Video cam features. This is truely preventing me from using a 4.3 rom as a DD.
This may be a Noob question, even though I have been flashing roms since my Eris...but, why are there no ROM's that have a Photoshpere camera included? Why can I only get that camera as an .apk or flashable .zip? Confuses me.
For now, I am stuck on TW because I can have the Samsung Camera (which i love), and I can have a fully functional Photosphere camera and run them side by side.
If I could use the camera that comes with the 4.3 rom (for front facing camera & vid cam, i.e. hangouts) AND load the Photosphere cam, I would be happy, but one has to replace the other...unlesss there is a workaround I am not aware of.
Thanks!

[Question] S3 I9300 Slow motion camera CM13?

Is there a way to use Slow Motion feature on Samsung Galaxy SIII I9300 CM13 (6.0.1)? I can´t found any apk or flashable zip.
Thanks! :good:
Like mine Z1 the stock camera was having awesome burst app that uses only sony stock camera.. now with CM even when i download some app that shoot photos fast is not even close to the original.. And the result will be some very blurry images..
v00x - CM13 6.0.1 camera it´s ok, sometimes throws error "can´t connect to camera", but nothing to worry about. Slow motion i´ll be so awesome feature on S3. I think CM14 7.1 also does not have this feature. Correct me if i´m wrong...

You just need to install an app.. The phone has a buffer limit can't get over it like a few mb and done.. And different phones has different shutter speed. It not depends just on the app.

How port miui camera (Mi5s Plus) to lineage os / aosp?

Its because I want the black and white feature and portrait mode.

As for portrait you should use google camera, which is way better in my opinion both in edge recognizing and quality (and it works for both front and back camera).
For B&W you can use Snapdragon camera (included in most roms), but i noticed it has some bugs with focusing, or FreeDCam, which should cycle and show B&W using the second camera (but it depends on the rom you're using).
As for MIUI camera you can get it to work on custom roms through some ports, but you'll get basic functionality and for sure no support for second camera. They're also old miui 9 versions, so they won't have portrait.
If you still want to try here are some versions to flash (remember to give all the permissions prior opening the app, otherwise it will say that it can't connect).
I still recommend to avoid using miui camera on this device, it is really bad with picture compression. Just use GCam for almost everything and you'll get awesome results, i even compared with my friends' mi 8 and the results are impressive.

Assuming you are on oreo-based rom (i'm on syberia and this doesn't work), just open FreeDCam and try to switch camera. It should show front camera, and changing again camera should show up the B/W sensor. I can't say it works for sure, i used to do it on an old unofficial rom (AICP based off old los15 sources), and it may still work but i didn't do further testing.
I asked to syberias' dev if he could look into that, hopefully we'll have working B/W sensor for third party cameras other than buggy Snap
UPDATE: Got it working guys, made a new thread so that it will be pinned for others too

OnePlus Camera App in custom ROM

Howdy!
I'm using LineageOS (without Gapps) on my OnePlus 7 Pro and it's great. The only drawback is the camera.
I installed the Stock ROM OP camera app and gallery app and they kind of 'work' but the picture quality is just not there. It looks a lot worse, especially in wide angle mode.
Very soft, mushy, very grainy in the shadows, just overall poor quality.
Also, the camera app crashes when I open it every time. I have to long-click and select a mode, that's the only way to open the app. I also can't get from the camera directly to the gallery.
I'm using the 'correct' versions since I got the apk from my device when it was running OxygenOS 10.3.1
I tried installing 'OnePlus Camera service' apk, but it wouldn't install.
Did any of you guys figure out how to get the stock camera to work on a custom rom? I suspect there is some post processing app needed that runs in the background, cleaning up the picture.
thanks!
You should give Gcam a go.
There's a good discrption in the apps thread
I haven't seen OOSCam work well in any ROM. Gcam is great for photos, but stock OOS cam is what I want to use for video. It's the reason I went back to stock.
