Tethering 5ghz - Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Questions & Answers

How do I get 5ghz tethering to work?
If I don't check the "use 5ghz" the hot-spot shows up and connects perfectly, but if I choose 5ghz the hot-spot doesn't show on any devices. It must be something on the note 10 side as it has worked in the past with other phones as the hot-spot on 5ghz.
Any ideas?

wait... how to setup 5ghz wifi ? i dont see the option

Does the device you're trying to connect support 5GHz? That's the only way to see networks broadcasted with it. On my other phone the N10+ shows up under WiFi in the screenshot.
I suppose you can try "reset" settings and network. Maybe try testing hotspot with a different name. Also toggle "hide my device" a few times. One other thing, arw you using the Exynos model? Mine is SD, so perhaps the issue could be chip related.

Settings - connections - mobile hotspot and tethering
Tap mobile hotspot and top right corner (three dots) advanced settings. You can select 5ghz in there.

Looks like you may be right, the WiFi dingle I was using shows that it's 5ghz compatible, but doesn't show the Note 10 + hotspot. But tried to connect my missus' note 8 to the hotspot and it works. So must be the pc rather than the phone.
I have the exynos model too.

See YouTube Video I posted. Is it not there for you guys?

Hi guys I'm having the same issue here but mine is S10, from Malaysia Telco is Maxis...
Wondering it's due to Telco or baseband firmware, mine unlocked unit some more...

Having the same problem on mine, also in Australia. Anyone found a work around, or do we need to flash a different firmware?

5GHZ
Mine has the 5MGZ.

Which Rom are you on?
If you are on CyanogenMod (or AOSP) you can select settings, select WIFI, then select advanced (there is a three dot menu at the bottom right), next there is a menu item for WIFI frequency band (mine is in AUTO). You can select Auto, 5 GHz, or 2.4 GHz.
I would need to flash another Rom to check out the settings but I remember them being slightly similar.
Give it a go.
I tried that still same won't connect to 2.4

There are a few threads concerning this issue. If you dig around there might be a fix. This thread ended successfully:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2539061&highlight=2+4+ghz
I already check all the forums nothing like mine the access points appear and disappear and when i try to connect to the 2.4 it disappears again
I know it is a lonnnngggg time after your post but I have a phone that has the same issue. (HTC One Evita). It can see 2.4GHz networks but when you try connect the network then becomes out of range. Did you ever have any luck with this issue?

[Q]nexus 5 cant find wifi

Hey guys!
So I have a problem with my nexus 5.
Lately it seems as if it does not find "new" wifi connections... It connects to the one it already has saved.
If I click scan no wifi networks appear even though there are many(my pc and other phones get good signal)
I also get the notification saying "There are networks available" but when i touch it no networks appear...
Any ideas?
Cheers!
EDIT: I just tried adding the SSID and it connected fine and works great.... So the problem is the actual scanning...

You say that it happens "lately". So it worked previously? Anything change right before the problem arose? What is your phone's configuration, i.e., ROM, kernel, Xposed, runtime, etc. Have you rebooted the router? (I know, your other devices see all networks, but, what works for one may not for another)

I would suggest that the router you are connecting to is set to not broadcast the SId - simple (but not too effective) security measure.

Same problem here! I got my N5 yesterday and wifi was perfectly connecting to my router. The I unlocked the bootloader and root by using WugFresh's Nexus Root Toolkit and phone is not detecting anymore my wifi network. Phone wifi works since I see the others wifi around but not mine!:crying::crying:
I did the following but problem still present:
- powered off the router
- changed SSID on router setup
- removed security on router setup
- add manually the wifi into Nexus 5
I have no clue on what I can do more....pls help!
EDIT: solved: I noticed my router was set on specific channels for wifi, then I modified to AUTO
If i remember correctly, Nexus 5 version 4.4 had issues connecting to WIFI channel greater than 10.
I had this issue also.

Mate 9 Hotspot issue

I notice that when I turn on the hotspot feature on the Mate 9, other devices connected to the Mate 9 can access internet, but the Mate 9 itself can no longer connect to the Internet at all. Can anyone else confirm if this is only me or a software glitch? Thanks.
I was running on C636B100 and upgrade to B136 and the problem still exist.
Thanks!
This is the way it works apparently.

I haven't tried it yet but you should be able to connect to the internet on 4G /3G. The WiFi cannot connect to your WiFi server while acting as a hotspot.
That's how it works on other phones anyway - I'd expect the Mate to be the same.

I understand the phone will turn the wifi off and use the wifi antenna to host the hotspot, but the Mate 9 should still be able to access the internet via mobile data, right?
I've used other Androids before and my whatsapp, facebook and chrome will continue to work even when I turn on hotspot (via mobile data). When I turn on hotspot on the Mate 9, the phone iteslf stops all Internet access but clients connected to the hotspot can access internet via mobile data (from Mate 9) without problem.

Yes, as I said in post #3. Are you saying yours doesn't do it?
It's working fine here,try a factory reset.
Maybe it's your carrier? But it definitely should work...

Yup, no internet when I turn on hotspot (even when mobile data is on).
I guess I'll have to try and reset when I have a chance.
Just tested it on mine, on EE/BT in the UK and it works fine. Also works using bluetooth tethering. Both to a Samsung Tab S2.
I figured out what the issue is. My carrier have a tethering APN which seems to be causing the problem. Once I delete the tethering APN entry, I can access Internet while I have hotspot turn on.

How you delete it. When I deleted my APN I can not save the changes.

So, did this issue result from your carrier, other than mate 9 itself?
How do you delete the APN? I am using Mate 10 and I'm having the same issue
Thanks
Did you get a solution to this? My new Mate 10 is doing the same thing. Hotspot works. Laptop gets data, but all mobile data stops on phone. So Whatsapp stops if my hotspot is on..
Ian
I had the issue, adding DUN to APN Type on the APN SETTINGS fixed the issue.
Hope it helps.

G955FD Hotspot not working

Anyone else having issues with hotspot not supplying internet to other devices. I've installed a custom rom just to see if the issue resolved, but it's still the same.

When you say not supplying internet to other devices, do you mean the hotspot doesn't show up at all on other devices, or it just doesn't work?

You sure your operator allows WiFi hotspots/tethering?
Do you have a carrier branded ROM or a generic one?

Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Go back to the Configure Mobile Hotspot window, type a random SSID (not AndroidAP), make sure the security is WPA2-PSK and try broadcasting with both 2.4 and 5GHz radios.
Let me know if it works.
Already tried that too. What I did notice was that the 5ghz option i see mentioned on a few forums, is missing. It only allows 2.4ghz.

Hotspotnot working because of allowed devices
Hi, I had the same issue- devices would see my S8+ wifi hotspot, connect to it and disconnect- very frustrating... then after various attempts I noticed in the configure hotspot menu (the 3 vertical dots in the upper right corner) "allowed devices", went there, saw it was on, but without any allowed devices. Turned "Allowed devices only" off, now all works.
I swear I never went in that menu before, so it was set this way by default...

Question Anyone having s23+ wifi issues?

My galaxy s23+ is not connecting to my router's 5 ghz band.. tried every router. I noticed after i reseted the phone, it connects easily to my home wifi 5ghz band when i restart my phone. Then if i go outside and use another wifi then come home and try to connect the 5ghz band. It doesn't connect until i restart the phone. While phones from realme or redmi don't have any of this kind of problem. Its simply a wifi issue. Does anyone have a solution? Its frustrating to restart the phone everytime i come home. I even searched google but there are no fix.

Don't go to the service centre. They are usually a bunch of jokers.
Have you tried 'Reset Network Settings'?

You might as well do a factory reset too if the network reset fails. The service center will do that anyway if set in for repairs...
I am seeing a similar problem. Sometimes my phone doesn't load anything. Turning off wifi and connecting again helps. Another thing I noticed is that when I switch rooms my older oneplus 8T would connect seamlessly to a strong wifi within the house. S23+ isn't doing that. Suddenly video will buffer and I see that it's connected to wifi that has low coverage in that room and then I have to turn off/on or manually connect to the correct wifi

'Intelligent WiFi' is already enabled. I have a wifi extender that has a different wifi name because I made a typo while setting it up. OP8T used to connect between the extender and the main wifi smoothly but with s23+ I have to intervene
