Pixel 2 Softbrick, No Fastboot? - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

I flashed TWRP to the device successfully, and proceeded to try to install Magisk 19.3 zip. It would begin to do a recovery bootloop. I fixed it using TWRP, and tried using the patched boot img from magisk manager instead. This is where things go wrong. After flashing boot.img, the phone refuses to boot, and asks me to do a factory reset. I did this twice, and the phone continued not to boot. I then tried installing the latest android Q factory image. The flash failed, and the phone stopped showing up when I do fastboot devices or adb devices. It is stuck in the bootloader telling me slot b is not bootable. I have tried different ports, but adb and fastboot are no longer responding.

Unfortunately, this just tells me that it can't detect my device, even though it is plugged in. Its so weird that it makes it to the bootloader screen, but fastboot doesn't work.

Have you tried just holding the volume up and power button for a good 30 seconds?

Holding down the volume up and power buttons just restarts it repeatedly, and each time it restarts it tells me "ERROR: Operation Denied"
EDIT: OMG fastboot works! Let's see how this goes from here. TYSM!

Hello! I have exactly the same problem.
Can you explain step by step what you did after fastboot began to see your phone?

I held the vol up and power buttons. This allowed fastboot to see it, and let the flash all script from the stock boot image run. This gave an error, but after holding the vol. Up and power buttons again, the phone started right up.

[Q] Boots only into Recovery

Hello,
I'm new to the XDA forums and hope you guys can help.
Last night, I came to the mind that I would flash my phone. I completed everything in torr's "[Tutorial] Root, Unlock, Recovery, and Flashing a Custom Rom" without any problems. First loaded Viper's Rom, no problems. Then I wanted to see how the other ROMs looked like so I proceeded to load Energy (had Wi-Fi connection issues), some of the "Without Sense" ROMs on Uwe303's, and finally tried to load BAKED Blackbean and hit a rock.
I'm stuck on the Recovery screen. I can't go into Fastboot either via the volume way, adb, or Hansoon200's AIO Kit. When I try to restart the phone, the red signal light goes on and off twice, screen blips twice, and goes back into recovery. I can't RUU, because I can't re-lock the Bootloader. I have been able to push other ROMs and flash them, but to the same results. Can someone help me?
Thank you.

Sounds like you flash CWM which is buggy you want to flash TWRP. The trick to getting into the bootloader is to hold the Vol- as you turn the phone off while holding Vol- let go of power and press and hold again. Also the reason it didn't boot was that you didn't fastboot the boot.img.

You just have to keep trying and maybe tweak what I said because without getting into bootloader there nothing you can do but as soon as you do flash TWRP it will make it easier to get into the bootloader.

Not sure exactly what you are doing on the "volume- way"
The only way I get to bootloader is to hold down vol- and pwr at same time for about 5-7 seconds, then release only pwr. Continue to hold vol- down till it boots. May take 20 seconds or so.
Were you wiping all including system before flashing these roms
You said you can adb push a rom then flash it, try that again with wiping all including system 2x
when you were in adb you tried to get to bootloader by typing "adb reboot bootloader" ? no quotes
just some ideas--not sure if you them all or not

Sometimes when you are in recovery with CWM you can also use "adb" commands. Connect your device when its in recovery to your pc via usb. Then try "adb reboot bootloader" as a command.

Only issue with that is it will boot into CWM because of the USB cable.
same issue
hey guys,
I'm having the same issue of rebooting into CWM recovery and have no way out.
I've tried both the VOL DOWN option and the "adb reboot bootloader" option, and I am having no luck.
Can you please help me get OUT of CWM recovery????
Thanks!

Locked Bootloader, Bootloop, No charging, no recovery, no bp tools can't flash

Hello everyone!! i am trying to get the xt1542 version of a moto g3 working, my brother said he tried to update something and then it turned like this:
No booting to OS, only M logo then restarts, it detects usb and fastboot, still can't open recovery, bp tools, etc, fastboot is locked and i can't access Operative Sys to unlock OEM.
Right now i am doing the .BAT thing to charge the phone on "adb and fastboot", so it is booting many times charging the cel.
I tried to flash from "adb and fastboot" but i get a fail notice (i think, this is because i have my fastboot locked).
I alrady downloaded my stock firmware for my cellphone version.
Finally, i saw a tutorial of unlocking fastboot vĂa some "img" files or something but was for other model / terminals.
What can i do? what i should do?, thanks in advance!!
Can you go into bootloader?? And can you (or your brother) tell what the "update" was, a little more in detail??
What is the "BAT" thing? Won't the phone charge when turned off?
Did you try just going into recovery and doing a factory reset?

As i said on title can't go to recovery, it's on red letters also. Sorry about the bat thing, is an adb bat file to makethe cellphone reset multiple times to make it receive charge. i am on a boot loop and it cannot be charged off, when you put charger or usb it starts restarting.
He cannot explain to me what update, i think official one maybe.

I'd recommend leaving it at the bootloader while it charges, constant rebooting may drain more battery. After sufficient charging, you can try flashing latest official firmware via fastboot.
I can't be 100% sure if it'll succeed in this case. Fastboot gives a 'Preflash Validation failed' error message if the target firmware is newer than the one to be installed. And if this is indeed an OTA, then there is a slight chance of failing. (It'll not harm the phone as nothing will be flashed).
Nevertheless you should give it a shot.

For factory resetting, in bootloader mode, press volume down twice, when you see 'recovery' (in red), press power button. That should open up recovery with an Android logo. Press and hold power and press volume up once. Now you should see option for factory resetting.
BTW, I think I charged my phone once in bootloader mode.
For the fastboot flash part, if every command returns 'Preflash validation failed', then probably nothing can be done except to wait for a newer firmware to be released.

Updated news, i could flash the newer stock rom 6.0 for movistar Latin America, on adb all files were flashed "OKAY", but problem is i am still stuck on boot loop... what do you think? recovery and everything is installing / flashing okay, but still can't get into recovery, maybe could be that it's not the correct firmware?, because before Movistar firmware i was trying to install RETAIL LA, and it was failing always.

From the bootloader, flash the recovery.img from the factory image with "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" and let it complete (shouldn't take more than 10-15 seconds), then WITHOUT rebooting select Recovery on the phone and it should start recovery. Once you get the android on it's back and it says "No Command", then press VOL UP+Power to get to the recovery menu. If you can't get to this point there is more wrong here than just a flashing issue.

[HELP] Can't get FRD-L04 into Fastboot or Recovery/eRecovery

I was attempting to restore my Boot.img and recovery.img (stock version B385) so I could update to the latest B388 package. This did not seem to work out well. I'm not sure if I fat fingered the wrong recovery file or what, but, I can't get to recovery. More importantly, I can't get to fastboot !
I have tried adb commands to reboot into fastboot and i've tried the volume - and plugging in USB cable while connected to PC.
Both of the above steps result in phone booting like normal. Phone seems 100% usable, I just can't do anything with it regarding recovery/bootloader.
Anyone have ideas? or am I stuck here?
thanks again
Well, I think I got lucky here. I have a feeling I did flash the wrong image into the recovery partition and it messed up fastboot too. but, regardless, I was able to turn phone off. Then I held power, vol -, vol+ for a while until I got the EMUI update screen. Then, after rebooting, I was able to issue adb reboot fastboot.
yay

With Huawei/Honor, we could easily mess up in seconds. wrong image flashing could lead to severe issue and sometime we may not be able to restore the same. Luckily you were able to get what you were looking for.

CANNOT enter recovery mode proper

The issue: When booting I get the "bad key" boot text which hangs for about 10 seconds before going to splash.
When doing power button + volume up, the bad key hangs for so long that holding down power button just SHUTS THE PHONE OFF.
I can do power button + volume down to enter bootloader, and then enter recovery mode from there, but when I do that I get NO COMMAND
Ive also tried with adb
adb reboot recovery
same thing NO COMMAND
Everything that I google about NO COMMAND comes back with "oh just do power button + volume up duh" and each time I read that as a solution it makes me a little bit more angry.

bad key and/or N/A is just the phone saying it has an unlocked bootloader.
NO COMMAND when entering Recovery, yes, google is right. When you see NO COMMAND, press and HOLD the power button and TAP the volume up key. You should see at the top, Android Recovery and a bunch of options below. If you don't see this, your recovery partition was probably modified/corrupt. Flash the original recovery.img from a stock rom. I don't think there's a working E6 TWRP recovery image yet.
If you still haven't figured this out I have a possible fix. I found that upon first installing the magisk_patched.img from the guide you linked, everything booted up fine and magisk and root were working. I however made the mistake of booting normally...somehow this affects the magisk boot function in the recovery and gives the no command screen. I just fastboot flash recovery magisk_patched.img again and booted straight into recovery and that fixed it again. Just make sure once you have root again to use a program that allows you to boot back into recovery again directly.

recovery mode

hi, I hope I'm in the right place to get help with my issue. my Ace is in a reboot loop that i can't seem to get it out of. i have tried force rebooting and lt will not enter into recovery mode so that each time i would hit recovery mode the screen goes blank for a few seconds then the moto logo (M powered by Android) screen comes on with vibration for six seconds then again to blank repeating this loop until i again hold power and volume down buttons. I do have a lot of apps installed but this phone has a whole lot of memory that came with it. I am hoping this forum may have some ideas to help me rectify this issue. thank you.
While connected to a pc, enter the fastboot - w command. This will erase the internal memory and your phone should be able to boot.

I did what you adviced and I was instructed to enable debugging or fastboot mode in order to be able to rescue. But if I was able to do either one of those that means I wouldn't need help booting up. follow what I'm saying? because I would have to get into the settings to enable debugging or fastboot mode, somthing I can't do because my phone will not boot up.
To enable fastboot moode, hold the power button and the volume down button at the same time. This should put you in the right place. You should get red text that says you are in fastboot mode. If not, go to https://t.me/motoblankflash and ask for help.
