PX5 Buttons illumination not working - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

Hi! Bought a car with PX 5 HU installed, but buttons illumination is not working. Tried updating MCU — didn’t helped (current version is MTCE KGL v3.10). Tried turning it on in factory settings, but illumination is not working even in “by power” mode (also tried RGB and single color — same result). Though screen brightness adjusts by head lights and is working perfectly.
Any suggestions on fixing button illumination?

What voltage do you have on the illumination wire when the lights are on? What else have you checked apart from software?

12 Volts. As I said screen brightness works, so HU understands when head lamps are turned on.
An illumination doesn’t work even in “by power mode”, so I believe the problem is not in wiring.
I also checked if diodes in buttons are not burned-out, but they are ok.
So I reckon there are only two possible problems: software failure (may be previous owner updated MCU from another manufacturer — may be it was HA and he updated to KGL) or illumination is not wired on the motherboard.

Illumination doesn’t work even in Recovery Menu.

TF101 does not display on screen (through hdmi output works fine)

Hi,
my name is Josemari, from Spain.
I have a TF101 with dock (and original rom from Asus) that does not display anything on screen since a soft fall from 10cm (daughter in a very very small chair).
When i plug the charger, it works (and beeps -charge-). When i plug the dock, also beeps. When i connect through hdmi output to my tv, it also works. I can use the tablet perfectly with my fingers.
What can i do?
I disassembled the tablet and i checked all conectors, but i do not see anything wrong.
Thanks.
I had the exact same problem. Even though it has fallen before without a problem, in my last 2 cases it was a loose connection for the video screen. I had to open up the tablet and simply push the video connection back on all the way. It's rather easy if you're familiar with taking things like this apart. Make sure you are careful when you re install the side trim that holds the buttons. It's easy to break the red tabs that press against the buttons. It may be helpful to you to look up a disassembly guide. I believe if you google the specific issue you will find pictures. Again it's been a long time. Hope this helps
I have the same issue since a few days.
Difference here, when I boot up (holding power button until reboot) the screen is on (Asus logo and boot animation)
The display goes balck / disappears (backlight off) when the lock screen comes up.
Checked the inner display cable and connector with no success.
Did a factory reset and it was working again, until I changed the brightness to a higher level. Then the screen was dark again.
I managed to change brightness to a lower level using the working HDMI interface. After that I switched the tablet off and on and the screen was lit up again.
Another effect: when power adapter is plugged in, I can go to a higher brightness level until the backlight turns itself off.
It looks like a hardware defekt of the backlight electronic to me. Couldn't find any spare parts, such as backlight inverter, though.
Can anybody confirm this or knows how to repair?
I will use it at 30-50% brightness now and see if it gets worse over time.

HA 10.2" MTCD black screen -- with flowers...

So I started my CX-5 about an hour ago to be greeted by a black screen full of flowers. Literally. No idea why. This happened one other time, and it seems as though once it powered completely down, it comes back up fine. I have the timeout at 2hrs, so I have to wait quite a while to see if it's going to be ok.
I tried to reboot the unit by holding the reset button down, but all it does is put it to sleep. Actually, a short press caused it to mute (literally displays 'mute' on the display), and a long press puts it to sleep. Tried the press it till it goes off then release, then press again -- doesn't do anything but wake the unit up again.
The steering wheel controls all work fine. When I parked it last night I had the radio playing, and it was still playing when it started with the black screen. Volume and fwd-rev buttons on the SWC work fine. None of the capacitive buttons on the LCD do anything except home and power. Power puts it to sleep. Home displays the launcher screen (Car Launcher Pro).
If I press any of the app buttons in car launcher, they send me back to the black screen. Pressing the speed in the launcher switches to the trip display like it should.
Anyone ever seen this?
Anyone know how to actually reboot the thing short of pulling the fuse (if that would even work)?
The car has resistive steering wheel controls and *also* has a canbus decoder to tell the Bose amp what to go do with itself. I didn't actually have to use the KEY1 or KEY2 - I assume that the Mazda ISO adapter that they sent has this built in but I dunno.
Running MCU MTCD HA version 1.81
Thanks for any help...
That's happened to my MTCD a couple of times and seems to be when Android's user interface hasn't loaded properly for some reason.
Pushing a paperclip into the reset hole until it reboots normally fixes it for me.

Reboot with a paperclip as other guy pointed.
Your can bus not only plays with Bose amp....it gives you the reverse signal for the Camera as it is coded by can bus.
You have nothing to do with cables as they are properly wired for your installation

I have tried the paperclip method. All it does is put the thing to sleep. Doesn't matter if I hold it for 5 seconds or a full minute the result is the same.
the flowers thing is one of the default wallpapers
Hi !, try this......

this video shows how to enter recovery, you need to re-flash the firmware one in the recovery.
Good luck

@DudeInMyrtleBeach You have the same Head Unit as mine. How is it now? I have not updated mine yet. Can you update me on how your car radio is right now?

@Sylvan15 -- I had the flower screen one more time after I did the firmware upgrade, but I was able to reboot with a paper clip and I have not had an issue since.
Thanks

I got the same screen in my HU but only when car launcher is installed. If you remove the launcher that screen will not show again. Maybe is an issue with the car launcher with the units. I am using an MX (witson) version 1.93
I thought it might be car launcher. I haven't had any issues in quite a while though.

MTCD_KGL No Sleep - (Android 6.1, 2GB Ram, 32GB Rom)

Hello,
I bought this unit and almost everything works great... Except that it does not sleep or power when I turn off my car.
HU also does not have power menu in android options (original rom and malasysk rom)
From what I understand from other people, when you turn off your car HU goes to sleep. When you turn on HU wakes up Right?
Any possible solution?
Refer this thread: Cross-compatible MCUs - Latest MCU is HA v2.56 which could be applied to your unit to enable sleep menu. Be sure to thoroughly read the thread, document your factory settings and ensure you have your original MCU before starting.
What version MCU are you running?
My MCU is MTCD_KGL_V2.47_1.
With original MCU 2.36_1 also the unit does not turn off.
Even if I turn off unit in buttons, it looks like it only turn off the screen, because I left car parked 3 day and had no battery when arrive to car. Also after some time if I take out the HU, it is still hot!

Read above thread, suggest upgrading the firmware - MCU and Android. Your unit will then have sleep menu options.
Hi, thank you all for your support . Today I have unmounted my HU and see that the wires that say something like " disconect if have Can decoder" were connected.
I do not remember to have conected it.
I Disconected this cable and HU goes to sleep if I take out the key. NICE!!
Now I'm waiting to see if car can be parked for some days and do not loose battery. hoping so.
Thank you all again.
Interesting, I have a cable that is disconnected on my unit that goes to the CAN bus and wondered why. My unit does turn off after a while. I have the same thing that "Turning Off" just actually turns the screen off. My battery is fine even if I leave the car for 2-3 days.

Same problem for me..no turn off only sleep mode, disconneted power cable from canbus and only connect b+ to battery.
It's not the power connector from CanBus. You should have I think 3 wires that comes from canbus with a connector. Disconnect that small connector.

Updated MCU for KGL is 2.54 https://docviewer.yandex.com/view/0...pZnJhbWUiOmZhbHNlLCJ0cyI6MTUwMzgwNTMwMjg5Nn0=
but I have same unit and same MCU as you and door setting works fine just had to swap left/right. I think there is a setting in factory settings to edit the door function.

Mtcd px5 no touchscreen or buttons after wakeup

My MTCD unit touchscreen or soft buttons don't work after wake up after key off.
I have to key on - key off 3-5 times before they work. Once they are working unit performs perfectly until the next key cycle.
I think it's a software issue but is it Firmware or MCU
I am seeing the same intermittent problem with my PX5 unit, screen is black and push buttons do not work, cannot enter recovery mode either, then for no apparent reason it will work normally for a while.
I suspect there is a hardware fault with mcu or maybe even some other failing component or poor soldering. I have raised the issue with the seller but would be interested to hear from others as to what they think the likely cause may be or what can be checked to narrow down the problem.
As far as I can tell the battery and acc voltages are good but 7805 and 7809 regulators do not appear to be powering up in my case?
Mine isn't as bad as the unit will continue to play music from the point key is off and steering wheel controls still function.
Hello, did you manage to solve the problem? I have the same issue after upgrading from PX3 to PX5. The unit works fine after booting (if the power is disconnected). The problem is after wake up, since it does not support to turn it completely off any more.
Did you do something before it happening (e.g. a firmware update, mcu, or?).
Thank you.
I have the same issue with my new GS PX5. Before I had another one which hadn't this problem.
My problem seems to have been solved by updating the MCU to HA 2.61. Now the menu to control shutdown behavior shows up in the Extra settings and I chose the 30 sec delay.
Not sure if auto sleep works too, need to try.
Alex.
My top soft buttons stopped working.Everything else work ok but all the top softbuttons doped working. What can I do?

Mtce touch screen config

Hi,
After installing Malaysk 3.3 version on PX5 4G i have a very strange issue never seen before.
When I touch the screen in one spot it seems as if i touch it in multiple spots at the same type.
When I use the keyboard I can't type, If I press (A) for example they screen will pick up multiple letters at the same time, example ( ADUBG3)
Any ideas, I have configured the touch panel multiple times but no luck.
Thank you
The FIX
Hi again,
Solution to the problem.
I was setting up my Unit on my desk, using a 12V 2amp power adaptor.
The problem was the power.
Once I installed the unit on the car battery the touch issues went away.
It seems that the unit needs full battery power for correct setup.
