Widevine L1 on an unlocked 7 Pro - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

I want to know if there are still any possibilities to get L1 Support for Netflix on a rooted phone.
Does anyone know?

Not possible.

So if I'm rooted Netflix will only play 480p?

There are modded Netflix apps to achieve higher quality, but yes, with the normal app only 480p

Where are the modded one? Send me a dm with a link pls^^

Once you unlock the bootloader DRM keys are lost happens on every phone afaik, And defaults to L3 have to relock the bootloader to get back to L1.

May occur on most, but not all. I came from a PixelXL and this wasn't an issue. Honestly, this is about the only thing that has made me hesitant to unlock the bootloader on my OP7Pro.

Well I'm watching my Full HD shows now somewhere else... Somewhere, where I don't need L1

I don't have it apparently, I saw some people on the forum talk about it. Just do a quick search.

Netflix app not compatible with my device (FRD-L04)

Hello
Recently, I tried to install the Netflix app in my device, FRD-L04, and notice it didn't appear in the search in the Play Store. Then, I proceed to search for it using my PC, found it and when trying to install to my device, there was the message that the app was not compatible with my phone.
I'm currently running update B385 but I believe I had the app when I was using B360. Does anyone else have experienced the same issue? I had to go to Netflix webpage and from there, download the APK for old Android versions (4.4 and later).
That's because you have your phone rooted.
Simply search and download the early version of Netflix (Netflix-4.16.1 build 15145) and you got it running.

As far as I know, my phone is not rooted. Just an unlocked bootloader, unless that counts as being rooted. Which would be weird, because I can still install Netflix in my old Nexus 7, which is not only booloader unlocked, but also flashed with a custom rom.
Just checked with a couple root checker apps and both of them tell me that my device is not rooted.
"... Just an unlocked bootloader..." That's Why!

Like Crake said, Netflix blocks downloading from devices with unlocked bootloaders, rooted or not. You can grab the latest APK from APKMirror, it should work fine.

And what about my Nexus 7 (2012) which is also unlocked and with a custom aosp rom?
Not trying to make a mess out of this. Just pointing out that it is weird that some devices do get blocked and other don't. I'll just download the apk and keep going. Thanks for your answers.

Check the SafetyNet status of your Nexus 7. Open Play Store settings, you should see at the downmost part that your device is certified.

In case of Snapchat u can download app but u can't login in. If ur saftynet is tripped then u can't download apps like Netflix and u also can't use payment solutions like Android Pay.
People aren't concerned abt safety net to protect themselves from attackers it is more for the proper functioning of apps and services on ur phone.

OnePlus: side effects of an unlocked bootloader / custom rom

The OnePlus 7 will be my first OnePlus device, not going for the Pro as it isn't worth the extra money IMO.
Anyway

Having read the above thread...
I assume the Widevine L1 to L3 "problem" also applies to the OnePlus 7 (Pro).
But I can live with that since I really want adblock on my phone.
All my previous phones have been HTC devices, where - if you had installed a custom rom - could still update the phones firmware by flashing a zip via fastboot/hboot. These zip files only contained the firmware, recovery, bootloader,... but didn't touch the system partition, so you could keep using your custom rom afterwards without any issues.
Since I know that the stock OS on OnePlus devices is very good, I am not sure if I will be installing a custom rom anytime soon.
However I would still like to know if the same is possible on these devices?
Judging on what has been possible on previous OnePlus phones, yes, you should be able to flash firmware only separately when using a custom rom.
You know you''re in the wrong forum? You want to be here.

It is confirmed. as in OP6T, at least in my device: 9.5.4 GM1913.
Additionally I would want to raise that, possibly, digital wellbeing was disabled as well while on unlocked OP7P.
Could someone confirm it with Locked Bootloader?
Thanks
Yes, I can confirm that digital well being is disabled after unlocking the boot loader while it was working when I still had it locked.

Sure, on YouTube luckily all is still fine :good:

Losing the video DRM after Rooting.

I just want to make check if this is still the case?
Rooting the phone still removes the DRM however you root it?
No alternative way to save the DRM or reinstall it?
If your question is Netflix related, then I have rooted OP7 Pro with Magisk and there's no issue at all.
Unlocking bootloader changes widevine to l3. No way around that. Nothing to do with root.

Actually it has to do with unlocking the bootloader and rooting typically goes hand in hand with bootloader unlocking so it kind of does.

I heard some people unlock the bootloader and use root to debloat and make certain system changes that persist after unrooting. I don't know why they unroot other then google pay as Magisk allows google pay to work.

Widevine downgrades from L1 to L3

As the title suggests, my Poco X3 NFC (MIUI 12.0.1.0RJGMIXM Android 11) widevine drm downgrades from L1 to L3 overnight. There were no updates and whatsoever. When I opened netflix it downgraded from L1 to L3. I've also updated all security certificates (FIDO and IFAA) but also for some reason I cannot update the Widevine certificate (Error code: 1).

Yes as I've seen on reddit threads. They've fixed most bugs including the ones I've encountered and somehow improves performance in some ways. Can I ask if it improved the perfomance and if it has annoying bugs? I'll wait for the update so it is much safer as I don't have any replacement phone if something goes wrong. Thanks for the feedback.

Is there any custom ROM for the OnePlus 9 that have L1 Widevine certification or is it a problem for all OP9 custom ROM's?
