Data recovery from unrooted SM-G360F - stuck at logo - using ADB (device not listed) - Samsung Galaxy Core Prime Guides, News, & Discussi

Problem:
When I tried to turn on my Samsung week back, it got stuck at "SAMSUNG" logo, eventualy it always turn off itself after some time. I wasn't doing anything crucial at that time when it broke (no system update, no new app installed). I can't turn on my phone to get my internal data.
What I need
I have some important photos/notes in internal storage and I can't reach for them. I only need the internal data. I know that SAMSUNG stuck logo boot issue can be fixed by wipe data/factory reset, but I would lost all my important data.
What I tried:
Removed SD card
Removed SIM card
Removed battery for few days
Let battery drop to 0% and charged back to 100%
Wiped cache partition in system recovery
Installed newest Samsung USB driver (from official Samsung site), restarted PC
Installed Kies - after connecting Samsung to PC, showing only "connecting" and after time it fails
Downloaded ADB - via CMD (/w admin priv.) tried command "adb devices" - returns empty list
Downloaded Dr.Fone (device unsupported)
FonePaw for Android (device unsupported)
I know I can get internal data via ADB, but ADB can't recognise my device for some reason. I tried 2 different cables, different USB ports (USB 2.0 / USB 3.0) / (front / back USB ports).
Also in my Device Manager, my Samsung Phone shows under "Modem" category.
What's interesting - in Odin3 (v3.13) I can see my Samsung as 0:[COM13] always without problem in any port with any cable.
I tried command "adb devices" when my Phone was in "Download Mode", "Android system recovery <3e>". In both situations - always returned empty list. In that time I was watching device manager and Odin3 to see, if my phone was really connected to my PC (it was).
Any ideas how to get those data? Btw I am newbie, just started dealing with all those things today and may not understand things clearly. Much thanks for any guidance, tips or info!
Specs:
Device: Samsung Galaxy Core Prime (SM-G360F)
Fastboot: Doesn't exist on this device
Rooted? No (tried KNOX, it remained in system but is not rooted)
USB Debugging: Was ON before logo boot stuck (Can't tell 100% sure)

Absolutely cannot get phone working with ADB

Hey everyone.
So I updated my Atrix 2 to the ICS leak earlier today, and can't for the life of me get it to show up in ADB.
What I've done:
1) Tried on Windows (7) and Mac (10.7) using the SDK and downloaded versions of ADB.
2) Installed different Moto drivers on the PC. Ones that I found via a Google search, and the ones on the phone when mounted.
3) Toggled USB Debugging on and off 100+ times, and checked through all the settings.
4) Tried different mount modes- MTP, PTP, and Mass Storage, all while toggling USB debugging.
5) Tried adb kill-server, adb start-server, adb devices, adb usb, adb wait-for-device way too many times.
6) Tried different USB ports and different cables on both computers
7) Tested my Galaxy Nexus (verizon) which was detected by ADB on both setups with no trouble
8) Booted into Fastboot and tried ADB, but no luck.
At this point I'm ready to smack my head against the wall. Why in the world won't the phone get detected by ADB?
Any advice or help is greatly appreciated!
On Mac try sudo adb whatever
Always with sudo

I had the same problem initially as well. I did some research and found a thread on the Moto support forum in which people with the official Razr ICS had the same problem. What finally fixed it for me was:
-Uninstall all drivers for your A2, reboot
-Install THESE drivers, reboot
-Factory reset (Settings->Privacy->Factory Reset, or something like that). Yes I know it's annoying but it's necessary.
-Once your phone reboots, just sign into google. Don't uninstall any apps or do anything like that. Don't enable USB debugging either.
-Connect for all 3 different connection modes. Wait for the drivers to download each time. If a driver fails to download, then uninstall it (not the MotoHelper), reboot your computer, enable the installation of unknown sources on your phone, then repeat this step.
-Once you have all those drivers installed, time to reinstall them with ADB! Enable USB debugging and repeat the previous step
-Once all your drivers are installed, reboot for good measure. But you should be good to do whatever you want now.
Hope this helps. I know it's a pretty roundabout way, but it works :\.

I guess I'll have to give the factory wipe a shot tonight. I was really hoping it wouldn't come to that since I can't use Titanium Backup due to lack of root.
all i did was have my phone plugged in while i was installing the drivers. but i did have to download the ones from your post.
I followed the steps as above except the factory reset part (as that's a painful experience) but no joy. After ICS OTA upgrade, no adb for me. Looks like I'll bite the bullet and do a factory reset finally.
Before that I'll wait if anyone can post an easier workaround here. I have a 32-bit windows vista. (And a Ubuntu virtual machine on vmplayer)
ADDED Finally `Factory reset' had to be done and that did the trick. Without factory reset, the phone will not present itself as a ADB interface - hence ADB driver won't load - hence ADB will not detect it. So I don't know if all the driver uninstall/install/reboot in 3 modes ritual is necessary ... if you have all the drivers, just factory reset/wipe data and the phone shows up in adb.

I had the same problem and did a factory reset yesterday. It worked fine, so I re-rooted.
But that was yesterday. Now today, adb will not connect again. Something more is going on here. I suspect it is related to the fact that I did the OTA update from ATT without first un-rooting or doing a factory reset. I also had added files to system memory (ringtones - which are still there).
EDIT: Sorry, I spoke too soon. One thing I hadn't done was to "Connect for all 3 different connection modes." I had only connected in Mass Storage and Media Device modes, so I connected in "Camera (PTP)" mode, allowed the drivers to install on my PC, and then adb started working again (in Camera or Media Device modes, but still not in Mass Storage Mode).

FYI adb will not work in mass storage mode.adb needs the phone memory and other access which are not there when you connect your phone in mass storage where it acts merely as a card reader

Just in case anyone else was on the fence about doing this: I had tried a million things (trying different computers, different USB cables, installing and uninstalling different drivers, editing driver inf files, editing adb_usb.ini, etc) for several days and nothing worked. I was skeptical about the factory reset helping, but now that I did it I can finally connect to my phone. Yay!

[Q] Soft Bricked Nexus S 4G - Save the Baby Photos!

I've spent 4-6 hours researching and trying things and have become quite familiar with rooting, fastboot, adb, sideload, and various other tools and have many installed & working, so if I make a noob comment or mistake, go easy on me. I did my best to do my own due diligence.
Here's the situation:
Nexus S 4G - stock from Sprint
Android 4.1 as pushed from Sprint
Not Rooted
Debugging Mode not enabled
Launcher, UI, Settings, Apps, etc fail ("has stopped") if they use the UI
Things not requiring UI do start and run
Android boots up normally to the lock screen (I have pattern lock). Apps start up in background fine (Locale, Alarm Clock Extreme, etc). Upon unlocking, I get "Unfortunately, Launcher has stopped." Repeatedly. It won't let me click any apps. I can, however, bring down the notification window. Selecting anything in the notification window fails, with "____ has stopped," including Settings, Messaging, Google Play, etc. When I plug in USB, I see the green Android with the "Turn on USB storage" button, but I can't click it before "System UI has stopped."
Unfortunately, most solutions warn "this will wipe all user data," and I don't have backups of a hundred or more photos and videos of my daughter's first year. So wiping data will be my LAST resort...and even then I may try forensic recovery from a dd image (I work in Computing Security, so have a fairly good technical background).
What I've tried, and result:
Reboot into recovery - I get dead Android with red exclamation
Wipe cache & reboot - no improvement (tried 5-10 times)
Reboot into Safe Mode - no improvement
Push 3rd party launcher - installs, but upon unlocking and selecting Launcher / Go Launcher (.e.g), I get "Go Launcher has stopped."
Fastboot - I get device listed/connected, but most commands cause wipe, so I haven't ventured much further
Calling Sprint and having Jellybean re-pushed to my device - it appeared to push (I saw update status message), but when I rebooted, no apparent difference (maybe it didn't push?)
Add/Remove apps via Play Store - works fine. I can remove apps (and have removed nearly all) and add apps, and they uninstall or install successfully (notification window confirms). But I can't access any newly installed apps due to the "stopped working" window.
Suggestions I can't try:
adb backup/shell/pull etc - my debugging mode is not on and I can't turn it on.
USB backup - can't enable USB Mode, and I don't have an automount capability
fastboot oem unlock - wipes phone
I want to try adb sideload <image>, but I haven't been able to confirm whether this truly wipes the user partition or not. If anyone can confirm, let me know. My phone enters sideload mode via:
1) boot to fastboot (power + vol up from OFF)
2) select recovery
3) at dead android with red exclamation, again press power + vol up and release. Menu appears only after you release.
4) 2nd option is "Apply update from ADB" which puts phone into special adb mode where the ONLY command accepted from your PC is "adb sideload."
Any suggestions on how I may be able to retrieve my photos and videos given this completely borked OS?
Thanks.
You could try this. It's Beta and buggy but might work.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that requires Debugging Mode enabled. It's essentially a GUI for "adb backup." Unfortunately, I can't get debugging mode enabled in any way known to me yet.
Is anyone out there familiar with the adb sideload command? I'm really curious if sideloading an image into user partition in any way wipes data.
SOLVED - how I saved the baby photos
I thought I'd give a quick post on how I actually was able to recover my baby's photos. I was at my last resort and decided I'd just try to do a dd image of the card after I did a "wipe and factory reset." My hope was that a "wipe" did not actually write 0s over the entire internal SD card, but just erased the FAT. In that case, I figured, if I took a dd image, I could use a tool like Forensic Toolkit or similar file carving tool to carve out .MP4, .3GP and .JPG files.
So I selected the wipe and factory reset, but had my Linux system ready to do the dd IMMEDIATELY upon reboot. I had ALREADY plugged my USB connector into the Linux system. When the factory reset completed, the system booted directly to the "Enable USB Mode?" prompt. I enabled it, and performed a ~14 GB dump. I know this only catches the user partition, but I didn't care about the system partition, and hoped it would be re-allocated in roughly same location as previously (not stomping on my user data). After the dd was complete (about 3 hrs or so), I bit the bullet and just signed into my Google account and had Google Backup "restore settings."
Later, I was using ES File Explorer and noticed all JPGs were still in my DCIM folder. When I browsed with Gallery ALL PHOTOS AND MOVIES were still present! :victory:
I did not have any backup/recovery software installed to the best of my knowledge, except for Google's "settings backup." So my best explanation is that the wipe & factory reset DID NOT wipe my user data. This may be a fluke, or due to me having USB connected during the wipe & reset. Not sure.
Just to be sure we're all talking about the same "Factory Reset," on my stock Nexus S 4G running Android 4.1.1:
- power off phone
- press Vol Up and Power at same time -- you'll get the Bootloader
- select Recovery -- you'll get dead android with red exclamation after a few seconds
- press Vol Up and Power at same time again -- you'll get a secondary menu
- select "wipe data/factory reset"
- select "Yes" from a long list of "No" with one randomly-placed "Yes"
Hope this helps someone down the road...
I also wanted to note about the "ADB sideload" command. It can only be used to push incremental updates to the device--not full images needed to recover from a corrupted OS. I successfully sideloaded the 4.1.1 update (re-applied the 4.1.1 that I was currently running), which included "launcher2.apk" and a couple other launcher components that gave me hope. But when the 4.1.1 sideload completed successfully and I rebooted, launcher was still hosed. The 4.1.2 incremental update hasn't been released by Sprint yet.
That was hell of a read. The Samsung toolbox program you can do a temp boot and mount your SD card. But I'm too late to tell you now sorry.

A few minutes googling would have told you that adb is set in the build.prop
Code:
persist.sys.usb.config=adb
OR adb with mount external
persist.sys.usb.config=mass_storage,adb
OR adb with mtp, but you need a kernel
persist.sys.usb.config=mtp,adb
Hi Can you tell us the dd command that you have used to dump the data?
My Case was little different. My friend had tried unlocking screen pattern and it got locked.
Wifi was not on neither was it rooted nor usb debugging mode enabled.
Solution:
I did a factory reset with my phone connected to PC.
once this is done during reboot a prompt came up asking whether to enable USB debugging need to be enabled.
I enabled it and I could see all my data from my PC.
I copied everything and continued with booting.
Hope this will help someone

I wonder if this will work with a Nexus 7 on 4.3-4.4 ota soft brick
This is why rooting unlocking and a custom recovery is so important.

[Q] Xperia T LT30p - Bricked

I probably bricked my phone. I am unable to boot into system, all I can do is to boot into recovery mode.
However, it is completely useless, as I can't flash any ROM:
1) from pc through adb (whatever I do, device just can't be connected to pc through adb)
2) nor from sd card (as there are no ROMS saved on sdcard - as from the beginning I was trying to do it through cable on pc so I have roms only on PC. but can't push them on device, because can't connect device to adb...)
From that it looks like I have no chances to make my phone working, as 3rd option probably does not exists
I tried official Sony flashtool (called Emma?wtf) and I was able to can connect device to it and start flashing, anyway after few seconds I always get this error "Back-end communication failed".
Some other options? Thanks a lot!
PS: looks like randomly (sometimes) I can connect device to adb, but only as unathorized, what is once again useless (can't push anything to sd card)

"usb device not recognized the last usb device you connected to ..

this computer malfunctioned.."
windows 10 64 bit opened fastboot and not working had worked in the past (forget what date) currently no rom on phone was wanting to install a new one.
tried on an other comp and no luck. I'm on twrp recovery menu and mounted device nothing showed only showed usb connected when at phone power up
Try with another usb cable. Does the phone charge correctly (if not, then usb port may be damaged). Try installing one of the ADB and fastboot installers available here e.g Minimal ADB and fastboot or 15 seconds ADB and fastboot installer.
You can copy the rom files to a sdcard if you have a sdcard reader.
Broadcasted from Zeta Reticuli
Link me if you can also i've put rom's and gapps on sd with sd reader and can't find the folder I named so I can get there. It does charge but the main power it's not saying usb connected.
Minimal ADB and fastboot installer. Do a system image before installing it, just to be safe.
And, try to place the rom and gapps into root of your sdcard, it'll save a lot of confusions. In TWRP, select Install>Select storage>External Storage. And you should see your files.
Sorry but I didn't understand you, 'the main power it's not saying usb connected' part. Is it the bootloader screen (the one comes up when you hold power+volume down?)
Broadcasted from Zeta Reticuli

hi i have the same problem! when i conect my xt1540 pc says "USB device not recognized" and i go to device manager and says on USB section (Device descriptor request failed) i install it minimal adb and motorola device manager on a pc with win 8.1 and win 10 pro and nothing happens, also i did the tuto about regedit on both pcs and nothing, i did and wipe data/factory reset too, my xt1540 have marshmallow 6.0 no root stock firmware.

Samsung SM-G390F - Remove Knox - Root - Firmwares - USB Debugging locked.

Hi there,
I have a Samsung SM-G390F XCover 4 - FCC ID: A3LSMG390F
The phone seems to be locked to Samsung MDM, and a policy which is out of my control is stopping me from enabling USB Debugging.
I have a problem, i want to remove Knox totally, do a factory reset and return the phone to normal. I have tried flashing an original stock ROM which from the result of Odin flashed ok, though did not overwrite Knox when rebooted. Its a pain in the arse this Knox.
I have tried factory resets, though Knox still contacts or locates whatever and wherever and applies a system update each time, which then takes me through a custom setup and you cant do much unless you complete that (Knox Security Prevents X,Y, and Z) If i can stop this i can have a useable normal phone.
I would also like to root this phone and install TWRP. I have tried some steps to install TWRP as found on here but its not worked.
Also are there any Firmware's such as Lineage for the SM-G390F, cant seem to find a lot of information on this model of phone.
Any help would be appreciated.
I am facing the same issue, it seems. I can charge the tablet (SM GT-8000) via USB, but there is no data connection whatsoever (doesnt show up in lsusb) . USB debugging is enabled in developer options.
I am working with Ubuntu Linux and Windows 10. I have three brand new data cables. My aim is to set up TWRP and install LineageOS like this: https://www.mhs-solutions.com/instructions/
How do you assume that it is Knox causing this behaviour? I have tried to disable/delete Knox from the device by rooting it (KingoRoot worked well) and removing the APKs manually: KLMS Agent, Knox Notification Manager, Knox Store.
I also successfully ran 'su pm disable com.sec.knox.seandroid' in a Terminal Emulator and did the same with 'com.sec.enterprise.knox.attestation' and 'com.sec.knox.eventsmanager"
Manually deleting the system files did not work due to / being read-only: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/how-to-disable-or-uninstall-knox.2535665/post-47674248
However, with wirebug i was able to establish an ADB connection with usb debugging. I pushed some files to the sd card in order to sideload the ROM later in stock recovery, but did not work out thus far.
You might want to check 'adb shell am start com.android.settings/.UsbSettings' if the MTP is activated, which seems to be needed for USB debugging.
Still no data connection via USB (lsusb, dmesg) even in Odin mode (heimdall detect). Did you get any further in your troubleshooting?
