ECHO CALLER on OP7PRO - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I have noticed that people voice talking to me (phone, whatapp, ect ) are complaining with echo on their side
I have to lower the headset volume to stop this echo. It do not occur with bluetooth
I think that the noise reduction mic on the top is to sensible but I'm not a specialist. Support have received my device with no problem discovered
I have tryed the hard reset but same issue
Do you encounter the same issue on your OP7 Pro ?
Thank all
Same issue on my girlfriend device...

Yep, I'm getting the same complaints since update 10.0.3 on TMobile in USA.

No issues before the update, now everyone is saying whenver they speak to me they can hear themselves echoing. Anyone else have same issue or a fix??
I have tried resetting mobile networks, turning VoLTE off, toggling airplane and mobile data off, 2/3G only off/on, lowered volume during call. Nothing works so far.
Edit: Contacted OnePlus Support. He (Michael) suggested I shut down the phone completely, hold Volume Down + Power, Select English, clear Cache, clear cache and restart. (Do not erase everything, just cache). Seems to be working again with no echo but after 15 min echo came back. Support wants me to do a HARD RESET (FACTORY) but I will only do as last resort. Anyone else got solutions?

I don't have any issues I have the 12gb ram variant and latest 10.0.3 update installed

I didn't even know about the echo issues until someone finally mentioned it to me because we can't hear it. Only the person on the other end when they speak.

Do you happen to have call recording enabled. That only happens to me if I use it. When I don't use the recording tweak there is no echo for the other person.

I don't use call recording. What is this call recording TWEAK?

I may have found a solution for this but need to test for a few more days. It's not hardware related, software tweaks. Will post back soon.

Please let us know how to fix this. This echo stuff is killing me...

Any update on this?

It's been almost a week and no echo after I applied some changes. I should note that I updated to 10.3.0 a few days and no echo did not come back. I'm not sure which of these fixed the ECHO problem but it's worth a shot if you have the same problem as me. I'm in the USA on T-Mobile network using a global version OP7P from OnePlus. I'm not saying this will fix your issue but this is what I did to fix my problem that appeared after installing 10.0.3.
1 - Download App: Activity Launcher by Adam Szalkowski
2 - Close all apps and open Activity Launcher
3 - (Inside Activity Launcher) Go to Phone Services section to Roaming:

4 - My Domestic Roaming was toggled to the left (off) for Voice & Text roaming, Data roaming. I toggled them on (to the right as seen in pic):
5 - Close window in step 4 to go back to Activity Launcher, go to Settings section to Mobile network:
6 - Made sure my Roaming, VoLTE was on and TAKE NOTICE of "PREFERRED NETWORK TYPE" and change appropriately or to what is in the screenshot:
7 - Close window in step 6 to go back to Activity Launcher, go to Phone section to Phone (phone.carrierconfiguration). Click UPDATE and it'll update for a few seconds, click UPDATE again and it'll run again for a few seconds, click on OK :
8 - Close window in step 7 to go back to Activity Launcher. Close Activity Launcher and restart phone. Make two phone calls, maybe three to be safe. The first one never echo'd for me but every call after that did when I had the problem.
I hope this helps anyone.

Echo has decided to return today...

Fix - Attempt 2
Alright, after getting a chance to play around with more settings after my Echo came back last week, it has gone away now. Here is what I did, and cross fingers this keeps it away:
1 - Download Engineering Mode APK and install: https://mega.nz/?fbclid=IwAR303Pss6...Y!YWzum5MbKIlIRJKlusBr3hyzyaiGi-2jYQWocLddgbI
2 - Close all current apps and open Activity Launcher (from previous post) and go to Engineering Mode and select Audio:
3 - Select Dual Microphone:
4 - Click on OPEN and select Use Primary Mic Only per screen shot here:
5 - Close out of all apps and restart.

8 days later and still no echo.

I have the same echo problem (it seems to be linked to the call recorder) and I tried the above method but I couldn't get it to work. It seems like the setting isn't sticking. When I tap "Open" and "Use primary MIC only", close the app, and go back into the app I find that those settings aren't clicked anymore. Was there a way to save changes before exiting?

Guys disable google assistant listening make a call and it should be gone then re enable it. That should fix the issue.

No luck for me on this one. I disabled Google assistant entirely and the echo was still there.
I did some experimenting and I found that the echo only occurs when all 3 of these things are present:
1. I have OnePlus's native call recording enabled (either through the magisk module, joneplus tools app, or a Tasker profile)
2. I am recording the call
3. It is not on speakerphone
This leads me to believe that, for whatever reason, when recording a call now (this wasn't an issue on pie) it activates the top mic and the person on the other end of the line is hearing their audio from the ear speaker through the top mic. This is why I believe skip029's suggestion would work but I can't get that engineermode audio setting to stick (I'm not sure if there is another step that I'm missing).

Hi,
I have the same issue (OnePlus 7 Pro). I've tried factory reset but the issue persists. Contacted OnePlus customer support and after telling them that I've tried factory reset and that while using bluetooth headset the echo is not present, they advised to RMA the phone. My issue is that I bought the phone from GearBest so I don't think that OnePlus will take care of this..
I've contacted GearBest, hopefully they will help with the matter.

Thank you for posting the detailed instructions. I'm having the same issue others have noted here - I can't seem to get the setting to stick. So following the directions, I still have echo. Do you have to alter some other setting in order for the setting change to be retained?

Short description:
Getting Started...
==================
- Click add to select contact, group, or special number
- Set your contact or group incoming call preferences (detailed below)
Contacts, Groups and Special Numbers
====================================
- If you chose a contact with more than one phone number, you have to choose a specific number
- If you chose a group, the selected setup would be applied on all contacts within the group
- If a contact is removed from a group, the app would update itself on the next run.
Note: until next run, the removed contact is still considered as within the group
- You can also setup your incoming call preferences for 'blocked number'.
Note: this option is not for unlisted numbers in the phone's contact list
Incoming Call & Sms Preferences
=========================
- Choose between Loud, Vibrate or Silent per contact or group
- Define after how many calls or messages to activate above setup. The simple setup - after one call or message - means to activate the setup for each incoming call or sms
- If you chose two or more calls, a period of time in minutes is also needed to define the complete setup. For example, make the phone ring for contact 'X', after 2 calls within 10 minutes
- Loud would be activated when the phone is on silent or vibrate mode
- Vibrate would be activated only when the phone is on silent mode
- Silent would be activated when the phone is on loud or vibrate mode. Note that silent is activated for each call
- After confirmed, setup would also appear in the application's main screen. If two or more incoming calls are selected, a red indication with the number of calls would show up on the setup icon
Auto Activation and Popup Alert
===============================
- In the application's main screen, the bottom right button would indicate whether the setup is activated or not. A green light means enabled, while a red light means disabled
- You can manually enable or disable the selected setup by pressing the bottom right button
- In the settings screen, you can choose to auto activate when phone state is changed to vibrate or silent
- If auto activation is not selected, you can choose whether to use popup alert when the phone state is changed to vibrate or silent
- If popup alert is enabled and ringer mode change is detected, you can choose whether to activate Smart N' Loud, or use 'real silent' mode
- Choosing the 'always' option would set the auto activation option for next time. In order to change it, use the settings screen
Further Help
============
- In case you encountered any problems and you need further help, please contact us using the 'contact us' button in the settings screen
- If you like the application, please help us and rank us. Thanks!
Wow that is a nice idea. Not only for your Boss but for a lot of other situations.
Thanks.

Install Smart N' Loud, define your "important" contact in the application, and put your phone on silent!
When he/she calls - the phone will ring!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eyalse.smartandloud
More features:
- define your "white list" or "black list" for each contact seperately
- definition for incoming blocked number is also possible
- you can define that the phone would ring after certain number of call (your choice) in a specific time range (your choice)
for example: 2 calls in 10 minutes from a specific contact - the phone would ring.
- search for your contacts in a easy and simple way - through the search box
- if not defined "Auto", when the phone changed into vibrate/silent - the app will ask you whether to activate Smart N' Loud or not.
you can define "auto activation" by answering "always", or check the option inside the app.
- when the call ends - the phone will return to its previous ringing mode.

great :good:
This looks like a great app. I've tried a lot of apps like this one because I want to have my phone in silent mode in the night but I've also got a few contacts that I want to know if they call me.
How do I disable your app? If I switch my phone to silent mode, your app asks me if I want to turn it on. That's a very nice feature. But if I say yes but then later want to turn off the app and keep my phone in silent mode no matter who calls me, how do I turn off your app so it doesn't override my silent setting?
Hi,
In that case you have to change your phone back to loud, and when you change again to silent, just press "No".
I guess i could add another checkbox inside the app which allows to "deactivate" the previous selected mode...i'll think about it for the next version...

If you could add those features, and perhaps auto-mute sms and non-call notifications while listening to music, playing a game or watching a video (either preconfigured if possible, or perhaps user-configurable, whatever is easier to develop) I would definitely use this instead of Sanity.
That's not a bad idea, but its kind of a different app... I don't know if it is possible to do all the things you listed, but i'll check it...

Purchase
I installed the app on my sprint note 2 and purchased the " add more contacts" option, but when i installed it on my sprint lg g2, i get a try again error messae when I try to purchase the option for that phone. I've un-installed and re-installed but keep getting the same error.
Hi, that's odd...
The purchase process is basically not mine, it's google's...
i do check the Android id but this belongs to a device, not user, so it shouldn't be a problem.
what is the message you get?

[Q] Not Able To Start Video Capture

Since taking 4.4.4 (and rooted), I have been unable to record any video in either the stock app or the google camera (haven't tried any 3rd party beyond that). Pictures are fine, but trying to take any video with the moto stock camera gives the following error msg on screen:

Google camera gives no error, just wont record. I have tried clearing cache and data, reboots, etc. So far, I have no insight into whats causing this. Anyone else out there seen this?
Thanks

Did not work for me! I have a Motorola Maxx XT1080 with 4.4.4. Upon re-boot, video capture works first time, but fails every time thereafter with error message "Not able to start video capture". If I re-boot again, same thing...works once, then fails thereafter with same error message. Any other solutions?

Updated to 4.4.4 and I got the same problem
Thanks for that, been wondering what the issue has been. I guess I will just keep it so that my Nova Launcher has the Ok Google response. Turned off the Google one and it fixed the issues for the phone now. Much appreciated for the help.
Had this same problem.
I was taking videos this evening with no problems then started checking out "Google Now" options and enabled the voice commands from any app and from the locked screen. Then went back to taking or trying to take videos and got this same error message. I tried rebooting and it didn't work so I googled the error message and found this forum. I did as suggested and disabled the voice commands for "Google Now" and my video recording went back to working. So does anyone know if this error is being addressed for a fix? Also, thanks for the help!
**** that, I was wondering what was wrong with my droid ultra, well i dont even need the okay google command since we have touchless controls anyways so its pretty pointless, also seeing how we may get updated to the new moto actions.
moto x xt1058 video capture not able
Hello friends, some time ago I got moto x xt1058, update to 4.4.4 and get same problem
Camera work well after reboot, but then I get message "not able to start video capture". That to bad course Skype and viber also didn't work.
Then I find this forum and try to turn off OK google now detection, but this button in voice google app's menu didn't work. It is grey (not active) color and has a message below " this feature is currently anavaliable on this device". Google now voice commands works well and I have no idea how to fix my camera problem.
P.s. camera work only in slow mode.
Thanks.
HERE IS THE FIX! Remove call recorder.
I HAD THE SAME THING for the last 3 months. I found it v frustrating.
THIS FIXED IT FOR ME AND FOR OTHERS
REMOVE THE APP CALLED "CALL RECORDER" as this uses the microphone at all times and stops video from working. Other call recorders seem to work fine with no affect on video.
Cheers,
Ben
Ben's Awesome Solution to "not able to start video capture" on my Moto X
I have had the same problem as many others.
Where I try video recording on my Moto X and only get the SUPER FRUSTRATING - "not able to start video capture"
I tried the Google "3 Dot" - Google Now Shut Down and it worked upon reboot..."ONCE." Only to have it not work until another reboot...
I had to resort to carrying around a spare iphone to record what my Moto X couldn't.... auuggghhhh!!
Anyways, to make a long story short, Ben's comments fixed my problem...

After I deleted this app...NOW I have use of my Video Camera and DO NOT GET THE "not able to start video capture", AND I just tried to set up Smartphone payments with Square.com (the app would not work with the swiping Dongle because it said "A RECORDING APP NEEDED TO BE CLOSED" for that process to occur) which lead me on another internet search for a solution and wound me up backtracking to here and eventually to Ben.
So now I can Take Videos and charge people for them??? Ha ha, Maybe I will now!! Who Knows!! ;P

Automatically answering calls when screen facing down and in pocket

Not sure if anybody else has experienced this, but the phone seems to answer calls automatically when the screen is facing down or in a pocket. This issue persists even with all the motion control settings off. I have also activated different combinations of them to no avail. As an experiment, I had a friend call with the screen facing up. The phone rang, but as soon as I flipped it over, the call was answered. Software glitch?

Check whether your ambient light sensor is working or not.
Have you tried factory reset? Did u update your phone recently?
If you need to lock your device to avoid accidental pick ups, follow these steps:
- Press the power button to manually lock the screen.
- The screen will lock automatically and enter sleep mode after it has been idle for a certain period to reduce power consumption and prevent unintended operations.
NOTE: To change the screen sleep time, open [click to enlarge] Settings, touch Display > Sleep, and then select a time.
Your phone will continue to receive messages, notifications, and incoming calls when the screen is locked. The status indicator will flash when you receive new notifications. When you receive an incoming call, the screen will turn on and display the caller information. (NS)
I have the same issue and it is really disturbing. Even if it is locked, if the proximity sensor is covered the phone automatically answers the call. I have all of the smart motion features turned off.
This means if someone calls me and my phone is face down or in my pocket, they can listen in on whatever I'm doing. I didn't notice it immediately because I don't receive many calls. I'm running the latest Honor firmware, but I would rather not have to factory reset (a huge hassle) just to test if anyone else has any information.
Phew, crisis averted. After half an hour or so of scrambling around my phone settings (I've been using android for a long time, I know my way around the settings VERY well), I found the culprit wasn't even an Honor smart feature. In the android accessibility menu, I somehow had "Raise to ear to answer" turned on. Apparently on the Honor 8 (and maybe more android phones? I'll have to do some testing), this setting only watches the proximity sensor and not the proximitey sensor AND the accelerometer. The Honor's smart motion feature "Raise to ear to answer calls" watches both sensors and works properly. OP, go to Settings->Advanced Settings->Accessibility and make sure the "Raise to ear to answer" settings is switched off!

The answer in post 6 is correct works on the H5x also
As someone who had this issue, I will point out that there were two distinct ways of getting to the "raise to ear to answer" setting on my Honor 8 and I had to turn BOTH off before it stopped answering calls in my pocket. So if anyone is having this issue, it might be worth checking out if your phone has multiple paths to the setting.

Simply go to settings and type the word Raise in the search box and both settings are right their.
The big thing on the H5x was the setting was on by default I think their both off on the H8 unless you change it

(NS)

Thanks. This was driving me crazy with the Honor 7x. I turned this feature on but couldn't remember how i did it and couldn't find the setting. I have a flip case on the phone so it would ALWAYS auto answer because it thought it was at my ear.

How to guide: Enable 'ok Google' to work from ANY screen

This guide will work on both the HD 8 and HD 7. **EDIT, NOTE:** It will probably be better to make sure you have all the core Google Apps and services updated to the latest versions BEFORE you start this guide. Please see this post before you start the guide.
First download and install the Google App, which is required. Also download and install Gboard (this is only required for voice typing).
From the Google app , tap the three bars at the upper left > settings > voice. Set your default language, set speech output to on and download an offline speech set. Then tap 'ok Google' detection and switch ON 'from the Google app'. You can try to turn on 'from any screen', but you won't be able to...yet. Now open the Gboard app and tap voice typing. Select your languages and decide if you don't like bad words. Then go to settings > keyboard and languages > show/hide keyboards > make sure Google voice typing is set to automatic. Now swipe everything closed.
1) Now you need to download and install Activity Launcher. Open it and tap the three bars at the top left and select 'all activities.'

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2) Scroll down until you see settings. Tap it and scroll until you see 'voice input'. Then tap it.
3) After tapping 'voice input' a screen will pop up with two settings; 'Basic Google recognition' and 'Enhanced Google services.' You need to select 'Enhanced Google services.'
4) When you completed that, stay on that screen and tap the gear to the right of Enhanced Services. Now it brings you back into the voice settings screen.
5) Tap the 'ok Google' detection. Now tap 'from any screen.' Another screen will come up which will allow you to train the Google App with your own voice. Tap next at the bottom right.
6) Now all you need to do is follow the onscreen instructions. You''ll be asked to say 'ok Google' three times. It's best to be in a quiet area so your microphone doesn't record and weird sounds, aside from your voice.
If you use Nova Launcher, go into Nova Settings > gestures and input > and turn on 'ok Google' hot word. Now you should be able to do a voice Google search from ANY screen on your tablet...except the lock screen The app will detect your voice, but the screen has to be unlocked unfortunately. You should also download Google text-to-speech as well. Though you will have to access it using Activity Launcher which will allow you to create a shortcut to it. First you need to bind 'appwidget' to your custom launcher using the steps here. Once you've done that, go into Activity Launcher > all activities > scroll to Google text-to-speech and tap it. Then tap on 'Google TTS voice data' to select your languages. When done, long press on that same item and create shortcut. Yay you're done
I rebooted to recovery, wiped cache, powered down and powered back on. I had to go back into Activity Launcher and re-select 'Enhanced Google services.' This might be due to Amazon apps: SpeechInteractionManager or SpeechUI. Maybe both, but I haven't tried to uninstall them yet because I'm not ready for a reset. If someone could kindly test this for me?
I cannot uninstall or disable Amazon's text-to-speech as it's inside settings and not an APK/package, unless I missed it.
Thanks for this. You are single handedly making this tablet better and better.
When I select 'from any screen' I get the progress wheel then 'problem while connecting', 'try again/dismiss'.
Netguard is installed but toggled off. Strange...

Try this. In Activity Launcher, scroll to the Google App. Tap it and scroll until you see Google Assistant. Tap the second and third one until they both load. Pick one of those windows, tap 3 dots upper right. Make sure the same account is listed that's attached to your tablet. That was one step I messed with while troubleshooting, before I found 'voice input' in settings.
Also, while troubleshooting, I read that you need to have the same voice settings set up for each device that is signed in with the account on your tablet. So if using the account on two or three devices, you'd have to have the same settings across all three.
Hmm, like you I enjoy digging a bit deeper into things. Account location on my Android devices is set to English uk. I have swapped and changed Google play location to US from time to time in order to get better app prices but that is also set to uk now. Can't troubleshoot further right now but interesting stuff. Will try again later

I've sporadically been having the same issue, though not being exclusive to just the tablets. My phone was weirding out too. I think it could be something to do with syncing. I'm not sure yet. I am going to try something today that might fix it.
I also uninstalled both of the Amazon Speech apps. I haven't rebooted yet, since uninstalling the second one. So I am still not sure if that was causing the confusion.
So this fixes the issue, but I haven't rebooted as of this posting so I don't know if it all holds. Please see this post to make sure ALL core Google apps are updated to their latest versions before you go through the guide.

"Ok Google" Assistant. You have download the Nova Google Companion for Nova launcher if you want to use that.
Thanks for this guide. I've got voice recognition working on my Fire 7, but should I also be getting voice output i.e. google assistant verbally answering my questions?
I've also tried setting up personalized results in 'Voice Match' in google home, but it hangs on 'Please wait...' after pressing Continue

Have you been able to get this to survive a reboot? I've gotten it to work, but after a reboot I have to re-do all the steps again to get it to work again.

Actually I think I just figured out how to get this to survive a reboot. I have powered off and or rebooted at least 8 times now and the settings have held each time. I'll write a guide tomorrow.
So I stumbled upon what is likely to be a major fix with this. It was actually by mistake I had discovered it. I have some more work to do though as this appears to be a big breakthrough. I'll have to write a new guide for sure.
I am eagerly awaiting. Any update?

Yes. I have both enabled on my mom's HD8 and my dad's HD10. I followed all the directions with the exception of changing Alexa's setting
Also Some of you might have noticed OK Google may have stopped working after updating your Google app. It is possible though I haven't been able to say for sure, that updating the Google app at one point may have changed something inside secure settings which causes some of the assistant functionality to stop. if this is happened to you and OK Google has stopped working, go back to the OP at the link provided at the end of this post and make sure the secure settings settings are correct. When updating a Google app on another device one of the lines was deleted specifically the 'assistant' line on my HD 10 and the voice interaction line on another device. any one of these lines being removed from secure settings will cause a assistant to lose some of its functionality. make sure when updating your Google app that you're still in beta and that those three lines do not get removed or changed. https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/general/guide-enable-google-assistant-ok-google-t3740145

I posted the same reply on: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78231156&postcount=114
So changing this FLAG/ Setting allows you to switch between HANDSFREE access to "Ok Google" and "Alexa" key words?
Could we do this via? :
- Some UI Button to trigger the SWITCH between G & A - Some App/ Script? - To start off.. without having to change "code/ text" allowing anyone non techie to do it.
- Could it be done using Voice Commands from G > A and A to G?

Question Audio Guide while walking

Hallo all,
I own a GW4 Classic. I used to own the GW. During walking i used to have audio messages every 1 km with the GW. It would tell me my heartbeat, average speed and so on. With my new GW4 i can't get any sound out of it. Firmware version DUJA. All notifications, system, ringtone, audio, media and so on work fine. All settings are standard, i resseted the watch twice. It should work out of the box.
The audio Guide is on and i set the frequency on one min. for instance, start walking. After one minute, it vibrates with a black screen with green letters telling me the distance. Thats all.
I can not imagine it is a hardware problem? What do you guys think?

Interesting. I have used this when cycling, while connected to my Galaxy Buds+. I've never touched the settings, and it worked just fine. Actually glad to know that I can adjust it or turn it off. Might be an obvious question, but are you using headphones/earbuds? If not, you've no doubt checked the audio settings on your watch?

Thx for your reply. I do not use headphones. I checked all the audio settings and no luck. It should work out of the box. Thats why i reset the watch before. Sound should come out of the speaker of the watch without headphones.

Right, I see that now in your original post. I would suggest you keep playing with it, trying various options, settings, etc., and not send it in for repair (at least not yet). The feature works, and in my experience, this kind of issue is most likely not a repair issue, but a setting or system limitation issue.
I am trying for 2 weeks already. Deleted the apps completely. Deleted the plugins for the watch. Reset to factory 3 times. New firmware this morning. Twice contact with Samsung. I am completely lost.....

Deleted the apps completely? Isn't that a systems app?
Don't think so Samsung wearable is an Android app. Together with a plugin it connects to your phone thru BT. Then you have Samsung health for your fitness stuff and Samsung health monitor for ECG and Blood Pressure.
I deleted all, deleted storage and cache first. Like i said, if you delete all the apps, reset the watch, and do not roll back a backup, it should be as out of the factory. Connect to Wearable app, the plugin is installed and all should work as out of the box. Nobody complains about this "audio guide" feature, so it looks like it's only my watch which is faulty.
Would be nice if i got some feedback, if other people struggle with this feature.

Thx for your post. After your remark to not send it for repair i gave it another try. Reset the watch, installed the wearable app again without restoring a backup. Guess...... it didn't work. But then i restored my latest backup. It didn't work. Then i was goin thru all the settings and i noticed one setting i could try. GENERAL > INPUT > LANGUAGE. I was able to download a Dutch language pack. And you won't believe it, but it works. I am so happy. It cost me two weeks!

That's great to hear! I figured it had to be a software issue given that you know your hardware is fine (as audio is working), so glad you found it and sorted it out in the end!
Thank you!
Few days ago I have install last firmware (photo in attach) and now i have a same problem. Almost one year I used it for running (gw4), and after every km I got audio guidence, now I only have vibration, screen turns on for a few seconds but without any voice. Any idea how to solve this irritating problem? Thanks
For me it worked to change default language on my phone (and not watch) to english. Bad solution, but it is working
