How to flash custom ROM? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro Questions & Answers

I know how to flash ROM. What I am asking is, what's the procedure to flash?
What are all the files needed?
1) ROM
2) Gapps
3) magisk
Are there any other files needed? Like firmware? If so, where can I get that?
And one more thing, does custom ROM passes base integrity and CTS profile in magisk?
Thanks.

I will advice you not to flash custom ROM.
There is no such need to risk your 14k.

Yes, just install custom rom then you have root. (root build-in custom rom). No need to install superSU, however you need to flash TWRP first inorder to flash custom rom.

Need help with twrp in xperia l1

Hi. I have a doubt I want to install twrp on my xperia l1 but as some know the original boot.img must be installed to boot normally (because if it is not installed, the cell phone will start twrp again) My Doubt is: if I want to install a custom rom after installing twrp should I install the boot.img that I use to be root? Should I install the boot.img from the custom rom? or should I not install anything?

New Pixel 4a owner - have a few questions!

Hey guys, haven't been in the root scene for a few years now and I'm thinking about getting back into it.
Is xposed still a thing?
I have updated to android 12.. will I need to revert in order to do any flashing?
Anyone just running stock with root/xposed? Unless I see a compelling ROM I feel like this would be my choice. How do you like it? Does everything work correctly? Is there a way to add small features like 'hold power for flashlight,' stuff like that?
Do you recommend a particular ROM? What is compelling about it over stock?
Thanks!
I used this guide and running stock android 10 with Magisk root:
[GUIDE] UNLOCKING, DOWNGRADING TO A10, TWRP, ROOT

I am using:
TWRP 3.4.0.0
Magisk 21.4
Magisk Manager 8.0.7
Riru 23.5
Riru - EdXposed 0.5.2.1_4677
EdXposed Manager 4.6.2
All running with No problems!

Well, kind of. It now exists as a Magisk module. You need to install Riru module and LSposed module to get an "Xposed like" feature.
BUT, latest Magisk versions (Beta and Canary who are more compatible with Android 12) now have a new feature called zygisk. That feature is not compatible with Riru and LSposed. So if you're going to LSposed, use latest stable Magisk, which still works.

I'm running stock with latest Magisk Canary and besides that, I only use my Addon features module (which adds some cool custom stuff into stock ROM).

The only ROMs I know that exist for Pixel 4a are ABC and Proton AOSP ROMs. But, if I'm not mistaken, there aren't any ones built for Android 12.
Cheers!
Thanks so much! It's always frustrating, as a casual user, to come back to the mod scene and have to try to re-learn the current meta for both android modding and your particular device by wading through scattered forum posts.

Are there any guides for doing all this in Android 12? Seems like most guides are a bit outdated..

I was hoping to keep Android 12.. That's exactly the type of guide I'm looking for but seems a bit outdated! Any particular reason you've stuck with A10?

It depends on what you want to do.
If you want to just root your device, you only need to do 2 things:
1 - Unlock your bootloader (see HERE )
2 - Flash Magisk patched boot.img (see HERE )
For custom ROMs and etc, you should just check the ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other section. I bet there's a lot of info there about that.

Just that some Xposed apps and modules only work with android 10, and I don't see any features of A11 or A12 that I would use.

Awesome. Thanks! There seem to be some concerns in the Magisk thread about safetynet.. do you have root successfully hidden?
Is TWRP required for installing the addon module zips from your first post?

SafetyNet will fail as soon as you unlock your bootloader.
There is a Magisk module provided by kdrag0n that fixes that but the free version, for the time being, needs Riru and Lsposed to work properly. That means you need to root your device using stable Magisk 23.0 if youwant to fixe SafetyNet right away.
The magisk patched boot.img version that I've shared on that post I've pointed out to you is Canary Magisk, where Magisk Hide feature no longer exists and it's incompatible with Riru and LSposed, as I've already said.
I'm running my device with SafetyNet failing and I couldn't care less since it's not problematic for my daily usage. Any app I cannot install through playstore can be installed using apkmirror. As for Magisk hide, it doesn't exit anymore but there's a "App deny list" that works as well to "hide" Magisk from banking apps (for instance).
I'm not using TWRP since there's really no need for it on Pixel 4a.
Everything can be done through fastboot and Magisk.
Anyway, if you really want to have SafteyNet passing, you need to manually patch stock boot.img (that you may find as well on that thread I've shared) with latest Magisk stable and flash that version. Afterwards install Riru, LSposed and SaftyNet fix by kdrag0n.
Cheers!

I don't need to do that. Everything I have is backed up on my Google account.
Sure, /data and stuff like games or whatever needs to be downloaded again but, it's fine by me.
Furthermore, I don't use custom ROMs any more. Just stock Pixel ROM with my mods installed and I get by just fine, smooth and happy.
Cheers!

Depends on the ROM. LineageOS staff say to install the latest Android 11 image before flashing a LineageOS 18.1 rom. I'd assume that to be true for any other roms based on LineageOS.

Everytime a new build comes up, download the factory image directly from Pixel Official firmware site, extract it, open flash_all.bat, on the update command you see a "-w" flag. Delete the "-w" and save flash_all.bat. Connect device to PC, reboot to fastboot and run edited flash_all.bat.
If you don't delete the -w, you'll lose your data.
Cheers!

Do I need root to install modified Stock rom?

I want to edit an original ROM (A51 Stock Rom android 12) for the first time. (with linux/window)
I just want to remove/add some pre-installed apps and activate some Floating features.
My question is do I need root to install this modified ROM?
Can I install it with Odin?
Will I have any problems with Secure Folder, Knox, etc. after installation?
I don't want to root or mess with it at all, I just want a stock ROM without restrictions.

Exactly which stage is difficult?
I have no problem with unpacking and repacking and I am somewhat familiar with it

Question Is there anyway to root latest s22 Ultra firmware S908BXXU3CWAI One UI 5.1

I'm try to root that new firmware. No method working now. Not work patching boot.img with magisk and flash in AP Not work flash empty Vbmeta with boot img patched with Magisk. Not work to flash twrp-3.7.0_12 by Afaneh92, multidisabler, FORMAT with YES on data partition. Nothing work. After all that...restart, restart, restart. the phone not boot.
What version of Magisk are you using and where did you download it from? Flashing Magisk 25.2 in TWRP should work fine.
Kernel Sources aren't released yet. So there is no way to root it yet. Stick to the Jan Patch for now.

Ok, but how to downgrade the bootloader, because ODIN not flash the older firmware, issue some error. Patched one ODIN too.

Run stock firmware clean for now; until a solution is made. I'm sure @afaneh92 will come up with something after the kernel sources are out.

Patch ap file with magisk and Flash via odin like normal whole firmware
Just Installed 5.1 on my S22U (S908E) and prepared a ROM as usual. Magisk 25.2,TWRP,Decryption everything works as it is on 5.0 ROM
I have no reason to believe anything will be different on S908B
Even Magisk 25.2 works on S23Ultra too. (I have my pre-rooted ROM already with magisk 25.2 for S23U) just needs manual patch but that's only for S23U, not needed for S22U, even TWRP works pretty fine and yet we don't have kernel source. OneUI 5.1 is no much different than 5.0

Thanks for this confirmation, So I assume only a permissive kernel is missing and that's only required for System R/W ?
Regardless of that, the existing TWRP, Magisk works to get a rooted 5.1 ?

Yes if you planning to run multidisabler or system-rw script, you must needed to flash permissive kernel and that's what probably OP is missing.
Alternatively, flash system-rw custom ROMs

I wonder how is happen this, but obvious is truth as soon as you say that , because Im not new in flash processes and Im doing what is do in previous firmware when rooted the stock ROM, the same flash and everything , but the things is going to wrong way , just infinite reboot. Flashed new firmware 5 times with Odin and tried everything. Last I must to try to flash AP Magisk patched and whole firmware with it just like Be_Cruel said above .

If you are flashing TWRP and run multidisabler OR run system-rw script, you will have bootloop because this requires custom kernel which is not available yet for OneUI 5.1
Magisk Patching AP will 100% work (without TWRP), do this
Patch AP file with magisk
Flash patched AP file with other BL CP and CSC file (use CSC* instead of HOME_CSC as this will auto format device) and all should be good

One of the things what I does was to flash clean firmware, ,TWRP with Vbmeta, multidisabler, format Data with YES, and flashed Magisk after that. Again bootloop.
Can I flash clean firmware, Vbmera with TWRP and Magisk without multidisabler and format data ?
Lastly I should do what you said to flash magisk patched AP with all firmware.

TWRP without multidisabler have limitation, you won't able to make data backup nor can store other backup to Int storage
You have following optios before permissive kernel available for 5.1
- Flash TWRP without multidisabler or system-rw script (Limites TWRP use, No system-rw)
- Patch Magisk with AP and flash as said above (No TWRP)
- Go with custom ROM which support full TWRP+system-RW
Ok, I will try, but to mention for the last you said...No old ROM (not yours nor enything else) want to begin to install with the newest bootloader. TWRP issue a warning that want the older bootloader to install your ROM, for instance...Something as "You must be to S908BXXS2BWA2 formware to install this.
