Restore WhatsApp backup without Google Play Services? - Android Apps and Games

I backed up my WhatsApp messages both to Google Drive and to the SD card, and flashed an AOSP ROM without Google apps.
However, when I copy over my WhatsApp backup it tells me it found a backup from 1/1/70 of 0kb, and then gives the following error:
Sorry, we were unable to restor any of your message history backups.

In the WhatsApp FAQ it basically says you need to be logged into the same Google account and use Google Play Services.
Is there any way to restore a backup without Google Play Services, or am I just SOL with my worthless backup?
I guess in that case best I can do is extract the backup from Google Drive, just for archive purposes.

Titanium Backup App Restore Best Practices?

I use Titanium backup to do app backups of a handful of games, a few installed through the play store on my main account, a few installed from a secondary Japanese account to access the Japanese store, 1-2 Amazon underground installed games and a few using the Qoo store app.
When it comes time to restore these backups onto a new phone (or same phone due to a OS upgrade requiring a wipe) should I just choose to restore the apps+data, or reinstall the apps from their respective storefronts first then go into titanium backup and just choose to restore those specific apps data?
Will titanium backup restore the correct market links for everything? Is this even a concern anymore or are the links server side, and as long as you have the correct app id's installed the respective stores will see them as installed and able to receive updates?
Thanks!

You can go into system files for WhatsApp on the previous device and find the stored chat data & phone clone/Bluetooth the file across and then on the HMS device you can move the file to the exact same place you found it on the old device, That then allows the back up to be restored.

How to preserve Google Backups?

ADB Backup is soon to be depreciated and for a good reason - it doesn't actually work. I think Google's "Good Drive Backup" is similar to ADB Backup, but I am not sure because I don't know how to download Google Drive Backup files onto Windows PC. I can see that it is there, but it doesn't allow me to download it like other files. I would like to keep those Google Drive Backups somewhere other than Google Drive because it backs up Wi-Fi passwords and other sensitive data.

I agree with you, but I don't think it's possible, since there aren't any option in Google Drive. Plus the save file may be encrypted by Google before storing it on Google drive so even if you had that file you'd also need the encryption key.
Sorry but to me, it's not possible.

Backups stored by Google are meant to be flashed or installed directly to the device from the drive, not to be downloaded separately to another storage device.

Question whatsapp issues 21 aug 2021 onwards

Friends
I am on Crdroid (rooted) + flamegapps
my problem is with whatsapp,
IT restorse MSGS only from older Google drive Backup and Ignores recent LOCAL BACKUP at
/0/android/media/com.whatsapp
even if it sees local backup and starts downloading chunk from google drive and deletes all recent backup files and chats!
now i did some homework and i come to know
1. activate w/app and put fone on Airoplane mode
2. active w/app when there is no google account linked to mobile
3. use version 2.21.8.17 (may2021)
now i have lost 2 days of whatsapp data and i am on older backup downloading from Google drive (took2 days as my backup was 31gb) and current version unable to store backup on google drive as i try..
ANY SUGGESTIONS ? i keep flashing updated roms and current situation is dissapointing
on A11 , i don't know why whatsapp has changed things! it was so good uptil A10
Try to put backup at the old place, it is the Whatsapp directory at root of internal storage.
For me it worked, when i put there full directory with all files including backup and then installed Whatsapp. Then Whatsapp moved it all to media by itself.
i will try that too

Unable to Backup Messages: Backup corrupted, help required to transfer WhatsApp data to new phone

I have a 'Redmi Note 9 Pro max' phone. WhatsApp is fully functional, with a chat history of the last 5 years. I got a new Samsung S22 5g phone, and I want to move all my data to that phone. When I checked the WhatsApp chat backup, I saw that the last backup happened on February 7th to my Google Drive. I clicked 'Backup' button to manually take the backup. I got the error message 'Unable to back up messages' after 30 seconds. I tried rebooting the phone several times, changing networks, checking the permissions, etc., but I still got the same message. I verified the backup in my Google Drive, and I saw the backup happened last February 7. My database folder was empty since I cleared the msgstore.db files as part of saving storage space, which I used to do periodically since I know that WhatsApp will create daily local backups in that folder. I noticed that WhatsApp even stopped creating local backups daily, as it is supposed to.
After several attempts to create a new backup, I finally decided to restore the February 7 backup available in my Google Drive to my new phone. I added the Google Drive account to my new phone and installed WhatsApp there. Whatsapp correctly detected the backup in my Google account and began restoring the messages; however, at the end of the restore, it threw an error message saying "unable to restore your chats from this backup," and after that message, Whatsapp displayed a list of other Google accounts to check for other old backups, which I did not have. I skipped the restore and saw that it did not have any chat history. I immediately closed and uninstalled WhatsApp on the new phone, switched back to my old phone, verified the number again, and thankfully, I was able to keep WhatsApp on my old phone without losing any data.
Now all my applications have been migrated to my new phone, except WhatsApp. Ultimately, I see that the existing available backup is corrupted, and I don't have any other local backup files either. I took a copy of the msgstore.db.crypt14 file from the new phone while the restore happened from Google Drive. Keeping in mind that my WhatsApp is fully functional on my old phone, I would like to get help with any of the below solutions to migrate my WhatsApp data.
Fix the 'unable to backup messages' issue for creating a new backup to Google Drive or at least a local backup. As mentioned, WhatsApp stopped creating local offline backups.
Recover any of the recent msgstore.db.crypt14 files that I deleted to create free space.
Fix the corrupted crypt14 file, which I have taken a copy of.
Other than the built-in backup and restore method, is there another way to migrate WhatsApp?
Same problem here!
I tried a lot of things and eventually I was successful to some degree.
Whatsapp restore from local backup : Working method April 2022
Hello everyone, This troubleshooting guide is related to the situation where you have a backed up .crypt14 fle (data base file) for Whatsapp and are unable to restore the local backup for Whatsapp using the .crypt14 file and you have no back up...
forum.xda-developers.com
These steps worked for me to force upload a .crypt14 backup file to Google Drive. I was able to restore the messages. I had to kill Whatsapp though because the restore process got stuck.
But the messages seem to be all back.
Another problem appeared though. I am unable to create new Backups due to an error.
I am now using Fouad Whatsapp Mod because it has its own backup and restore function which works.
My phone is not rooted so I extracted the Whatsapp key and unencrypted database with WhatsApp Key/Database Extractor.
I have installed the Android Emulator Nox Player, activated Root und installed the Foud Mod. I was able to replace the msgstore.db in /data/data/com.whatsapp/databases/ with my unencrypted backup as descirbed here.
Then I was able to backup everything and copy the backup back to my phone and restore it there whith the Fouad Whatsapp Mod
The backup is located unter Documents/FMBackups/com.whasapp.zip
Thanks also to this post which helped me a lot.
I hope you'll be succesful, too!

Hi.
I also have the same problem, and i was hoping you or someone else could help me. Whatsapp got stuck on restoring the backup, so i had to kill it mid restore. The messages are back but now it can't create another backup.
My question is: how do I transfer my messages to Fouad Whatsapp Mod if I can't back them up? Both local and gDrive backups fail. It seems like it doesn't even create the .crypt14 file. Any tips? Thanks in advance
Hi,
I would suggest that you backup your messages with WhatsApp Key/Database Extractor. You can additionally copy your whole Whatsapp folder to your computer to have also a backup of your media.
Here you have a tutorial on how to install Fouad Mod keeping your messages.
Good luck!
Hi @Canny2010,

Keep showing 'unable to backup messages' issue for creating a new backup to Google Drive or local backup. WhatsApp stopped creating local offline backups, no files in folder databases.
Thanks

Which version is installed?
latest 2.23.7.80
That's also my installed version but I haven't any problems with it. My suggestions:
- try a higher version or beta
You searched for whatsapp - APKMirror
You searched for whatsapp - APKMirror Free and safe Android APK downloads
www.apkmirror.com
- rename the Whatsapp folder in your internal storage (/internal storage/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/) to force the app to create a new one (maybe there is sth messed up with the path/permissions?)
- in case there is still a valid backup on Drive I would also try an older version (s. apkmirror.com)
- rename the Whatsapp folder in your internal storage (/internal storage/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/) to force the app to create a new one (maybe there is sth messed up with the path/permissions?)
> above approach would caused me lost all the data?

You should rename it and not delete it. The folder is still there but WhatsApp won't find it. If it works just copy the files from the old to the new created folder.
Tried, same. Any tools can recommend? Pay version also OK.
I have the same problem. did you find a solution? Thank you
ps: without using root
