Hi, last night I couldn't sleep and I decided to flash a few kernels on my global 4/64 Whyred. To be honest, I didn't expect a wide variation in results, however the difference between the fastest and slowest kernel was 28000 points.
The phone's ROM was Bootleggers Oreo. Tested kernels: ROM's stock Derp+, Derp-v5.3, AGNi_PIE-v5.6, IceCold-R5.2, KangarooX-R4.4 and InsigniuX-x14.
This is by no means a comprehensive test (each kernel ran Antutu 7.2.2 only once), but is might serve as a starting point for some people. Before I attach the screenshots, I'd like to mention that IceCold boots the phone in less than half the time the others do, however apparently it was not enough to give it the crown (it's not overclocked). It also fails to show its information in "About phone", so I took it from termux.
All tests consumed 1-2% of battery and no tweak whatsoever was applied on the kernels (schedulers, clocks etc); they ran at stock settings.
I would like to thank the kernels developers for their hard work.
[EDIT] Added KangarooX-OC.
SCORES
Code:
KangarooX 128,209
AGNi 125,286
IceCold 117,020
Derp-v5.3 113,870
Derp+ 113,597
InsigniuX 100,639
Aren't the oreo builds discontinued bro?
Apparently not, most of the tested kernels are only a few days or weeks old and also agni works perfectly, despite being designated Pie.
I found P ROMs not mature enough yet for daily use.

I've been hopping ROMs this last month, still haven't found one with all the features I want and bugless. Testing last O-based Havoc for 2 days now and I'm not satisfied. Been on RR-6.2.0 and Bootleggers so far, they all had their issues. Which one do you suggest?

Use Havoc-OS build 19-05-2019 with AGNi v5.5. There are one or two minor issues but they are easily fixable.

Alright, thanks. I'll first try dirty-flashing from my running setup and if that fails I'll clean-flash. Got any links related to those issues?

Do a clean flash. Bugs include :
1. Contacts get reset sometimes when installing WhatsApp. Easily handed, so NBD.
2. Music seekbar doesn't work on notification. Also, NBD.

Check the link for latest updates for EU ROM, posted in the Guide.
I've updated to 7.1 19 and I can confirm that it is stable. No issues noticed so far. There wont be updates for the next two weeks until the Spring festival is over in China.

Well, CyanogenMod was a custom OS\ROM\Whatever you'd like to call it, but it wasn't something that most phones shipped with. And it turned out to be the most preferred Custom Android ROM, with custom ROMS being based on CM.
I would close my eyes and buy a device if I knew it had official support for CM (LineageOS). I bet most people would.
Apart from issues with their management and rebranding to LineageOS, I don't see what's bad or "worse" with it. Just saying that "Worse" is a strong way to put it.
I do agree that some custom ROMS, no matter how stable have a few bugs\drawbacks occasionally, but so does the stock ROMS.
It is custom ROMS that use a lot of MODS which are generally more prone to stability issues. By mods, I'm referring to certain features like Bravia Engine\ Dolby Atmos ported from another device.
I cant comment on the EPIC ROM as I haven't tried it. But from what other users are saying here, it seems to be a pretty decent and stable ROM, despite having a few extra MODS.

Is not avalaible!
So uh, after Faust's kernel died I decided to maintain it for a while since I like Nougat and Oreo is too buggy (and ugly). Got a good scolding from him after his thread was shut down so I took his advice and made a new thread.
Please be warned that I don't update it that often due to real life commitments ( and Linux+CAF updates have slowed down) so if you're impatient then this kernel probably isn't for you. It's stable enough anyway so I don't expect complaints at any rate.
Kernel has been updated to Shinsoo_r8_Final.
As some of you may have known, Linux kernel 3.18.y has now reached the last update at 3.18.140. So, as promised, I am now stopping support for the Nougat kernel and will focus on Android 9 instead.
There's nothing much for me to say except it's been a good ride seeing Nougat through the end, and it's now time to move on to better things.
Changes:
Updated to Linux 3.18.140
Updated anykernel2
Upstreamed F2FS
Some fixes and updates from kerneltoast
Under-the-hood changes
Download link (Click me)
Features:
KCAL
F2FS
Maple scheduler
Updated CAF tags + Linux upstream
Wakelock blocker
Adreno idler
Things I won't do:
EAS (sources are blasted out the furry poophole of a miserable street rat)

UC

Magisk won't work properly, it's constantly losing root or the manager won't hide itself. Then there are random processes that will pop up errors and the devs seem to ignore or take too long to fix these.
Basically less commitments, and now they're raving about pie when oreo is still buggy. These kinda ethics make me sick so I'm staying here.

Sidenote: It ain't that bad. I'm pretty sure you've been using wrong or not proper Magisk / Rom / Kernel. I've tried 6 or more Oreo roms but after I got my hands on Magisk 16.0 vcustom version since then I've encountered zero problems or bugs. I'm using Lineage 15.1 latest Oreo rom with Magisk 16.0 vcustom and random kernel for months now (I change my kernel almost daily to test battery and performance [ Mainly Kud Kernel, Electra Blue, Franco Kernel, Englezos and Stormguard]). No bugs, no crashes, no freezes or any functional errors. I'm no Android developer but if I managed to do this I'm pretty sure you could do if you wanted to. What I'm trying to point out is that you did not choose Nougat because of the instability of Oreo but because you felt more comfortable with it than the newer Android thus didn't put much effort to negate the side effects of a poorly optimized Magisk.zip or ROM. Which are not Oreo's fault. Oreo is stable as hell. The badly managed system modifications that tamper with it will make the system instable, naturally. Either way thank you for maintaining this kernel. When there wasn't out any official/stable Oreo roms I loved to use Faust. Kudos.
You tell us the Oreo's ROM's is buggy, but you use very old unofficial build. Your ROM, doesn't have most of newest changes for Nougat from AEX Team, and security patches from Google...
Please flash latest Unofficial build by piskor, or latest Official build, test it, and come back to this thread aftet test's...

Some parts I can agree with, the last time I tried Magisk was the beta and stable before v17 came along so it might be the case. But bottom line still stands that I encountered problems and the solutions didn't seem to apply at that time.
This was a month ago, I'd have wait for a few more before I have the opportunity to retry them again.

Y'know... I'm pretty sure you couldn't have asked me a harder question. As I said I change kernel according to my mood. Almost. I could write an essay about each of these kernels and we still wouldn't have gotten any closer to a clean solution/answer so... Let's say Electra Blue holds the palm.

As I said I've been testing almost each an every Oreo Rom & Kernel but I found approximately zero bugs. I'm confident that it's because I always wiped my whole device before a new ROM flash except for Micro SD and used that specific Magisk 16 vcustom that is extremely stable with Oreo roms. I use this version even today. I'd highly recommend you to give another chance to Oreo and try full wipe/Lineage OS+Magisk 16 vcustom+Electra Blue kernel for massive stability. But I'd not want to talk you out of developing this kernel. These are just my experiences and those are yours.

I tried MIUI, LineageOS, Resurrection Remix and Pixel Experience on my Mi Mix 2s. Here my experiences:
MIUI: Longest battery life and best benchmark results.
LOS: Daily updates
RR: Many options to customize various things
PE: Preloaded with Google's crap
With all 3 custom ROMs I had battery drain (~13% per night).
After testing these 3 custom ROMs I chose LOS, but without Gapps. No more battery drain (maybe the Gapps were responsible for it...?) and a nice, clean and often updated ROM
Feel free to ask if you have any further questions concerning LOS, RR or PE

P3R for stock Google experience. It's also the fastest rom out there with great battery life.
For in between either aosip, arrow, bootleggers or syberia.
Havoc for a ton of features.
We are missing some info here. Best rom for what? Battery, performance, features, pixel like look, cleaned not as many features..?
Evolution X for features
almost every rom for battery (just need the right tweaks)
aosip, arrow, los for cleaned not that debloated style rom also balanced
pe, p3r, Qdp6 for pixel like experience
really you are the only one that know what you want, focus on your goal

I also had ~13% battery drain overnight with all custom ROMs I tested (LOS, PE, RR). Solution was to go Gapps-free (no Google Services at all). Since then I have no more battery drain (0-1% overnight) and 8.5 hours SOT... I'm satisfied with LOS now

Hello guys
I decided to root my device and if already I'm doing it I decided to have a custom ROM since I read people like it more than the oxygen OS.
Now I don't know which one to chose?
xXx NoLimits or Havoc-OS? And why?
I'd really appreciate it if you help to decide!
Thank you in advance!
is this Havoc-Oos rom based on stock?
No limits is not a rom itself. It's a powerful tweaking module for magisk with MANY options
I would suggest reading up on it before flashing that or anything in that case

No limits is good as is Renovate ICE. As far as custom ROMS go, crDroid and Resurrection Remix are the best with crDroid having slightly more options. The Devs are very active and are very good at squashing bugs quickly as well.

I'd certainly try ResurrectionRemix. I had the WiFi drop out issue on havoc and other custom roms, but RR is running perfectly! No issues battery life, as for me, its farsuperior to OOS (6hrs SOT vs up to 8hrs - though your usage, app installations may vary such battery consumption) and its full of settings/tweaks. Plus updates are super frequent, like every other day and the dev/maintainer is responsive to queries.
The only thing I've found is USB File transfer isn't currently working for me, but not a deal breaker by any means as I just reboot to twrp. Plus its working for others.
So yeah, give that a go I say!

Neither one both suck. The only thing worth flashing on this device is bliss but not the official version. And these people telling you that cr or havoc has the most features don't know what they are talking about. Bliss is the rom with the most and best features of all android 10 custom roms for any device. And if you want customization on oos then you should use rice. xXx is just a placebo that doesn't actually do anything. Come on now... Increase Network speeds..... With a magisk module haha that's not even possible. And everything xXx does anyone else could do in their own without an automated script it's basically just all build.prop changes which is super easy to do by yourself with a text editor and you can debloat anything you want from the file system with a root file explorer. Flash bliss or rice is you're staying on oos. xXx literally does nothing it's just a placebo.

I approve this message. Bliss is overall the best Rom with the best battery but it doesn't have the most features because MSM Extended does and there is no debating. Bliss and PA are the most stable. Right now I'm Stock with Renovate Ice. I find no limit overrated because there really isn't much too gain as far as performance on stock and I actually enjoy debloating, side loading apps, and tweaking on my own.

go for crDroid. You wont find anything as smooth and power efficient while having tons of customisation.
I think the take home message OP is to give them all a try and see what suits your needs.
You may want all the features that some custom roms offer, you may not experience any of the issues, or you may not need any features and encounter bugs.
I definitely enjoyed havoc, but the WiFi drop out issue was a deal breaker. That's non existent, for me, on RR and so I'm here to stay.
So just give them a whirl yourself and you'll find what's gonna work best for you ?

Haha and what msm builds are your referring too. Cause it doesn't have now features than bliss no other Android 10 custom rom does. I know this for a fact cause I've built every rom there is out and isn't out for this device. Msm is no comparison by a long shot.

Neither one both suck. The only thing worth flashing on this device is bliss but not the official version. And these people telling you that cr or havoc has the most features don't know what they are talking about. Haha it's funny how people always speak without actually knowing. That's the crappy official version. I do my own builds which have fully working oos cam and several things bliss broke in their source no fp flicker and other stuff specific for this device. Just search bliss Guacamole on telegram and see for yourself.

There is debating if you are telling a complete fallacy. Unless something drastic has happened in the month or so time since I've used Bliss my statement still stands. Evolution X and MSM trump Bliss in the feature department

No you're just wrong msm never had more features than bliss ever maybe you should actually flash them both. I've built both and still build Bliss. I built msm way before it was here on xda before anyone else did. MSM DOES NOT HAVE MORE FEATURES THAN BLISS! This is discussion is over.
I've installed a variety of custom ROMs on my OP9 (EvolutionX, Nameless, Extended) and they all have the exact same problem: audio doesn't work properly, buggy, randomly would not connect to my Google account, etc. Since they all had the exact same issues, my guess is that it's a problem with my phone and not the ROMs themselves.
Does somebody know anything about the problem and what can I do to fix them? I'm fed up with OOS and would really like to use another ROM.
Ok everything you have listed is built from Lineage aosp. Therefore everything is gonna have same bug. If you notice the lemonade/p official lineage builds have stopped around the 12th and 14th of February .New ones are coming soon with merged patch that fixes all issues. Then devs from other roms will build on new fixed source and so on. Like throwing a pebble in a pond. Takes time for the ripple to get out. Watch lineage os website/downloads/op9

That makes a lot of sense. I was wondering how the same issues presented with every ROM I installed. Thanks for the reply, I will wait for the new builds to start rolling out and then test them again.

Edit about workaround : 4 days of uptime without the binder issue.

This looks very promising, apparently it solves most of the issues I was experiencing. The only thing I'm scared of is that issues such as my Google account not loading would not be fixed.

That setup with cached_apps_freezer fixes the Google issues. No issues for me any more.

Then it's a miracle, I genuinely thought this was unfixable. Thanks a lot.
Just to clarify, do I run the command in stock OOS or once I've installed the ROM?

You can use Developer Options of the custom ROM.
Thanks for all the answers, I will flash a ROM probably later tonight and try the cached_apps_freezer fix.
