Hi,
I took my first step into the world of custom ROMs in November 2017, when the stock Moto G3 ROM was no longer getting security updates. I installed LineageOS 14.1 and have been using it happily since. It has suited me perfectly, very few problems, stock Android and I don't need root. I'm grateful to all those who have made this possible - the names I know are Alberto97 and squid2, I'm sure many others have contributed too.
Now LineageOS 14.1 is no longer supported, I've been following the thread [ROM][osprey] Official LineageOS 14.1 and checking squid2's posts and it seems to have gone quiet on that front. So I'm now in search of a really stable replacement ROM that's getting security updates, suitable for daily driver and a risk-averse user with limited experience of custom ROMs. I don't mind which Android version.
Thanks in advance for suggestions!
Cheers,
Dave
The LineageOS 14.1 branch is still getting security updates, so it is possbile to build it yourself. I did it few days ago and using my own build with July 2019 security patches without any issues. The process however can take few hours and is not easy, if you're not familiar with it. I can upload my unofficial build that I'm using right now. You should be able to install it easily through TWRP, if you wipe your data first. However, if you would like to install it over official build without losing data, you'll have to switch to unofficial keys through ADB first. Can't post any links here, because of the new account, but you can find more information by searching "lineageos osprey build" in Google.
Thanks, @pkowalik for your helpful reply and offer of uploading your build. I'm hoping to find an official ROM (which I guess won't be LineageOS) that is still getting regular builds but if I don't have any luck with that, I may be glad of your offer, at least to keep my phone going for another couple of months.
Another user on the [ROM][osprey] Official LineageOS 14.1 thread was looking for a build with recent security patches, I'll point them to this thread.
Thanks again!
Hey @Dave here, as I mentioned before I can't post any links here yet, so I'll send you a link to my current build in a private message. If there will be more people interested, I'll think of creating a topic in "Moto G 2015 Android Development" section and upload future builds as soon as the next security patches are merged (after testing them on my device first).

Hello i have a channel from telegram which posts almost all new ROMs
Link :- https://t.me/iammotog3
But as per your questions you said your enjoying Lineage 14.1
So as per my knowledge there is a maintainer updating Lineage 14.1 Unofficially and most of the current ROMs available to osprey are Unofficial , But according to my experience i can name a few in which you will face literally no issues
Pie ROMs :
1. Dirty Unicorns Pie ROM maintained by Chil360 (chil won't post any of his work on xda according to my knowledge he post in on telegram group only)
2. AICP ROM maintained by chil360
3. Gzosp maintained by chil360
All these three ROMs are likely to be most stable ROMs in pie
There are also few other ROM in pie
4. Lineage os pie - maintained by chil360 ,althafy, rahulxda9999 and one more dev (i don't remember his name correctly so avoiding to write) all these have different builds
5. AOSiP Pizza great rom maintained by chil360
6. Revenge os Only CAF pie ROM for osprey maintained by chil360
7. AOSiP Derpfest maintained by rahulxda999 and ruchil both have different builds
8. Resurrection Remix pie by heitezy
9. Havoc pie by ruchil
Viper Os pie and Crdroid pie probably got discontinued because of some issues with root
Oreo ROMs :
Not a single Oreo ROM is maintained these days
I think because of its high battery drain problems no one really interested in it .
But still there are few gems in stability / recommend by me if you really want to use android Oreo.
1. AOSP build by alberto97
2. AEX build by ishubhamsingh
Nougat ROMs :-
Nougat have the most stable ROMs for osprey, i believe.
But only 2 of them are maintained
1. Lineage os 14.1 maintained (Unofficially) in 3 varients by MSe1969
2. Resurrection Remix by Heitezy
But if recent security patches isn't the main issue then Viper os is my favourite in all Nougat Roms
That's all i knew about currently maintained ROMs
If i messed up some names then sorry for that
@pkowalik I would be interested in a unofficial LOS14 build.
@KBeng please check your inbox. Once I get access to development forum, I'll make my builds public.

Post your builds to telegram group
https://t.me/Moto_G_2015
Almost every dev post there test builds or stable builds
Thank you @lonkar for your suggestion. I've shared a link to the directory with my builds on Telegram group as well. Also new build including August 2019 security patches has been uploaded.
Thank you so much @pkowalik and @lonkar for your very helpful posts. Sorry for the slow response, it's been an eventful couple of weeks here when I couldn't risk being without a working phone. Hopefully things have calmed down a bit now.
That's an amazing list, @lonkar, thank you! I was feeling positive about going for something currently supported like Resurrection Remix Pie, though after reading through the whole thread for that ROM, there were enough mentions of battery drain & other issues to put me off a bit. Another discussion I came across suggested that battery drain was liable to be an issue for all Oreo & Pie ROMS for Osprey, I don't know whether that's true.
I also read the thread for MSe1969's LineageOS 14.1 builds and I see OTA support was just added, which makes that an appealing option.
Thanks again!
I am currently MSe1969's build that's the best option in my opinion. And its true that Oreo ROMs have battery drain issues its more like a battery leak than drain. And about pie it isn't that bad i mean its pretty good than oreo but isn't as good as Nougat Rom
Another issue on pie and oreo i would i like to mention is camera makes battery go down like 20% for 3 clicks its really annoying while your on trip and already on battery saving mode.
go for resurrectionremix ( pie ) . it has official build and regular updates as well . very much stable and with lots of custom features . i have been using it for a week now . heres is the link on xda : https://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/development/rom-resurrection-remix-v7-0-1-t3914718
or you can directly download it from their official website .
How much battery life you are getting on lineage os 14.1?
I mean the SOT?
yes, I'm also interested in pie-rom where the battery life is good and encryption really works.
Currently I use official LineageOS 14.1 and have a display on time (SOT?) of 2-3 hours in 4-5 days of use.

I agree. I have been trying the official 14.1 LOS for osprey since yesterday. This along with squids kernel gives the best battery backup I think.

LOS 14.1 status -
You also get project /e/ which is quite a big project and includes the Motog 2015 as one of its 81 devices supported:
https://e.foundation/
https://gitlab.e.foundation/e/wiki/en/wikis/device/osprey/info
Bump.
I tried the latest Resurrection Remix pie by heitezy build, but it is buggy.
I'm used to LOS and RR ROMs, so I'm not well informed about others ROMs.
My first guess would have been to give a try to LOS 17.1 by chil360, but I can't find the patch notes, and as I'm not the primary user of the phone, I don't want to have to grope for too much ROMS before finding the right one.
MSe1969's LineageOS 14.1 seems very stable and well updated, but it would be quite a stepback from RR 6.
I aim for stability, good battery life, steady security updates, but with a minimum of available customisation.
There are handful of Stable Q and P ROMs getting updates

I'd like to join this group to be one of the beta testers I have computer with adb on it, usb cable and pretty fast internet
Thanks in advance
PS. And of course I have Mi4i in my pocket
Wiped dalvik and cache,
Flashed this rom
Flashed gapps
Rebooted
Awesome work devs , didnt lost anything( i hadnt even taken backup before flashing and yes this is my daily driver ) ...looked like an update only.
When i think abt it , our device is running the latest version of android. I never thought a day like this might happen...
Kudos to all the devs... ?
I'd like to quote Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen here: "Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?"
Hi everybody,
at first, I'm looking to this forum every day. Thank you for your hard work to all!
Since I'm new to flashing with Xiaomi Mi4i, can someone please help me with the instructions?
"Flash firmware 6.6.10.1" - where do I get the firmware?
"Download the latest build" - is this the first link provided under "Download" in the first post?
Are the sensors working with both things above or do I have to use a custom kernel or something?
Also, will my data stay available if I just do these steps or is everything lost? (I currently run the Global Dev version from Xiaomi officially)
Thanks!

You're alone in this world, nobody is going to help you (atleast for a problem like this)
Search my dear friend, is what I would suggest. Search as much as you can because we've all become habituated to ignore posts like these.
Hello everyone,
I have been Moto G4 Plus XT1642 user for more than 3 years. It has always had ghost screen problem but that doesn't bother me much since I am not a heavy phone user. I remember that my phone was working fine with no problems when I first bought it with original rom. Later I remember that I used Lineageos for this phone model(athene) for a while. At that time Lineageos releases was hit or miss because of the some bugs from that particular release. However it was mostly stable releases.
I used Lineageos till the offical support ended(end of 2018). However latest releases was not stable for me because of the random crashes and reboots.
Because I was unsatisfied with latest Lineageos releases I started to look roms on this forum. I used unofficial Lineageos 14.1, 15.1, ArrowOS 9 and official Motorola's Android 8.1. All these roms had the same problem for me. Random reboot out of nowhere. Some also had notifications bugs etc.
What I want from a phone is basic phone functions, maps and whatsapp and browsing ability in case of emergency and no Google spyware running in the background eating my ram and data plan. So I don't use Google Apps Suite. I recently remembered that I was using Lineageos 14.1 without any issue beginning of 2018. So I searched on the internet and found a release named: lineage-14.1-20180122-nightly-athene-signed.zip
I installed this with Team Win Recovery Project. Again I skipped Google Apps Suite. I manually download apks from apkmirror and install my apps. Since starting to use this version of Lineageos I have not had a single reboot or crash. That is why I wanted to share here with you guys, for people like little requirements from a phone like me but want a stable phone that doesn't reboot when you receive an important call.
You can download the rom here (It seems like I can't post links because I have just registered to post this):
Go to anonfile dot com and add N6MeteP4nb to the end of the url
or here:
Go to gofile dot io and add ?c=vdDl9p to the end of the url.

For me, the best is Oreo at the link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/stock-rom-npjs25-93-14-4-march-1-t3608138
I am looking for a very stable ROM as a daily driver for some older person that will be using Moto G4+.
I tried stock Nougat and Oreo but there was too much Google bloatware and it looks like Lineage OS runs better (at least for me).
I tried also Lineage OS 15.1 but it have some problems with SELinux. I tried most recent LOS 14.1 build with December security patch and it looks the best for me. Unfortunately it probably won't get any further security updates...
Is there any other alternatives for LOS 14.1, that will be stable and up to date and also simple and hassle-free for an older user?

Hi, do you consider that the LOS 14.1 build you tried is stable? What about the battery life?
I'm in the same situation as you are, I need the phone working for an older person, and stock 8.1 is a bit choppy and doesn't have the best battery life.
When I used the phone, I remember that stock Nougat worked great, but since downgrading is dangerous, i'm leaning to switch stock Oreo to LOS 14.1 (Nougat).
Thanks in advance.

Hi I find that ROM faster and more smoother than stock Oreo. I couldn't check if this LOS 14.1 is stable and bug free in every daily actions, but for now it looks very good and I didn't find any problems. Probably I will stay with this ROM as long as devs bring us updates LOS 15.1 looks a little bit heavier than previous version, at least for me.

On this remarkable day, on the 9th of September, when android 11 has official release, z3c was given official build of android 10 with Lineage OS 17.1:laugh:. I am not complaining thought, great work, keep it up man.
@NeoArian There already exists a LOS 17.1 thread created by you. Can you please confirm which one out of the two do you wish to keep? Duplicate threads are not permitted as per the Forum Rules.

This thread is for the Official builds, I will close the unofficial thread. The first post lists the lineageos GitHub for the sources where the kernel source code can be found, I will add some more details regarding that in first post.
Greetings, Arian.
Hi everybody,
First, thank you NeoArian and other contributors for your great work. Just a question : I have no experience with Lineage recovery. What is the differences between Lineage recovery and TWRP ? What are the pros and cons ? If I try Lineage recovery, is it easy to go back to TWRP ? Without a full install ?
Thank you for your reply.

Thank you for the confirmation, Arian. Please close the old unofficial thread at your earliest convenience and we will be good to do on that front. Regarding the sources, yes, I see the link to the LOS GitHub, but I'll appreciate if you link the kernel repository (and if possible the device tree and vendor tree, if applicable) instead of the single LOS GitHub link.
Thanks for your work!

Thank you very much NeoArian for your official build of LineageOS 17.1
I have installed it this morning and have only noticed that the rear camera is not working (the front one is working normally).
I have tested it with the bundled camera app and with Footej camera.
Maybe my z3c is dying so is this happen to someone else?

I just flashed this over the last 17.1 unofficial build, and the cameras are working.

I can confirm rear camera is working fine, too.
Hello NeoArian
at first id like to thank you for keeping this device alive
second i wanted to ask how can i use this method again to use wifi in middle east
the error says : wifi-service.odex has no dex files
I really appreciate your hard work
Thanks a lot
Edit : Nevermind
Thanks for rom Again
Upgrade from 16.0 via TWRP.
For my case: Camera (front/back), Mic, NFC, Bluetooth and GPS works without any issues so far. I wish I could help with some logs but it feels already so stable. I'm so baffled that devices like the Z3C with 2GB is running so fast and reliable with the latest Android.... except their 3.5 jacks of course
Abandoned from the company and kept alive by the community.
Thanks to all involved and especially thanks for maintaining @NeoArian
Best regards
Hey,
Could someone tell me how to revert back to stock ROM? Cause LOS changes partitions structure and I can't restore my backup.
BTW. Snap 801 isn't ARM64 SoC. Well, at least I couldn't install ARM64 GApps

Download LineageOS 17.1 for Xperia Z3 Compact.
If you prefer TWRP over Lineage recovery, you can get it here.
Recommended Google Apps package: Open GApps (choose ARM64 as Platform and 10.0 as Android, use the Variant you want. Recommended nano package)

Hey @NeoArian. A little typo here, that can cause serious problems for some newbies here. We should use ARM GApps, NOT ARM64. You probably forgot to modify accordingly your post template while creating new thread, since on the lineage's device wiki it correctly specifies ARM Gapps.
If you don't mind, I would also like to ask about updating from official LOS 16 to 17.1 WITHOUT LOSING DATA. So I read here about the procedure but I am not familiar with adb side loading - I am more of TWRP guy myself . Are these steps correct for updating through TWRP :
Have official LOS 16 + your TWRP recommended for android 9 + GApps nano 9 ARM + Magisk 20.4 installed
Download a new TWRP from here
Download latest LOS 17.1 from here and copy it to device
Download GApps from here and copy it to device
Reboot to fastboot and flash new recovery
Boot to recovery
Flash latest LOS 17.1 on top of old LOS 16
Flash new GApps for android 10 (on top of GApps from android 9?)
Flash magisk (on top of old android 9's magisk installation ?)
Reboot to system
Hopefully everything works xD
Have I missed something, or not? Will it preserve my installed apps, their data and system setting, without crashes on new LOS 17? Thanks in advanced.
Fresh install from a stock ROM 6.0.1 => everything seems to be working very well including rear/front camera and GPS fix very quickly.
Nice work, thanks very much, unbelievable to have android 10 on this device.
Questions :
- Cannot install Magisk. I have last TWRP, installed openGapps without problem. But for Magisk (tried 201. to 20.4) it says "unsupported file format"? The same with Magisk Canary version. Even with the Manager it cannot be installed.
- Is it possible to implement the ANC (Active Noise Cancellation)? It worked with unlocked bootloader under stock 6.0.1 when plugging the Sony MDR-NC31E earphones just before flashing LOS 17.1.
Thanks

The steps you mentioned seem fine and the apps and your data should persist, ideally without crashes

Glad to hear that it is working good for you! I didn't use magisk since a while now, unfortunately can't guard you with that. Was that ANC implemented system side?
Hi, big thanks to NeoArian,
all works fine. I come from Stock 291 (German Telekom Brand). I had some trouble after flashing Recovery because I can´t start recovery with "fastboot reboot recovery". In my case always an system reboot appears. After some trys I use the keys (Vol- + Power) to boot in Recovery and all works fine. Please tell this in the install LineageOs on Z3c ( https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/z3c/install )

In fact I change TWRP, I should have installed the wrong one, Magisk is installed now.
About ANC, it is this functionnality, implemented on Z2 and Z3 series only:

Just a humble question, do the Sony STM10 stereo microphone works with this rom? Now I'm on Lineage 16 and it doesn't work very well with it (lots of stuttering during the recording)
Hi my device is since 3 days in this rom. The battery dranis fast. The device got no deep sleep. I have checked this with "AccuBattery" App. There are no special apps installed. Has anyone other see the same ?

Deep sleep is probably not working because of bt wakelock or something like that. It is a known bug for ages with z3c.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 11 (R), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. You will need to provide your own Google Applications package (gapps). LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
Base source code is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to the project, please visit our Gerrit Code Review.

Amazing... Android 11 for a 2015 device that launched with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. You gotta love XDA and the committed developers like @althafvly who keep development alive for the Osprey/Merlin. Thanks OP for your continued hard work.

@althafvly thanks again for this Android 11 goodness for the Osprey & Merlin. What are your recommendations, if any, as to a suitable GApps package for this ROM?
I haven't used this phone since LineageOS 7.1 because I didn't want to run it with very old security updates, so thanks for building this. I always use my previous phone as a backup,. I did a fresh install and it went flawlessly and it runs great with all my apps. I really like that I could restore the apps from my newer Moto G6 to this phone with my Google Drive backup. For the previous poster, I used the Gapps mentioned by the author.

I would like it to become official and to be able to opt for that rom, since the battery consumption is very high
I recently saw that LineageOS 18.1 is out for nearly 60 devices, can't wait for the release of the official build in LineageOS website for Osprey. Is there any known release date ?

If you find battery consumption on the latest unofficial build is high, chances are, it will still be high if this build becomes official at the moment. AFAIK, there are some things that need to be checked in order for a build to be certified as "Official".

Hey, since the device is really old & we don't see even that the LOS17.1 builds aren't rock solid, I wouldn't hope for 18.1 builds any time before 3-4 months. Also, I've seen people reporting the official 18.1 build are also having some issues for some device... And, as I mentioned above, there are some check boxes that need to be checked in order to gain the "Official" build tag. Hope you'll understand.
New build is up (check OP for download link)
Thanks. Great work.
Installed over previous build with 20201108 OpenGapps 11 without factory reset and booted on the first try in no time. Didn't like my Mirco SD though but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a backup, reformat and restore. Is there a newer build of OpenGapps 11 available?
Also, can't seem to add any widgets to the home screen.
New Build is Up (Gapps Included)
Most things seem to work but I can't seem to get the option to add widgets to the home screen with the long press anymore.
Any news about official lineage 18.1?
I'm using the official LineageOS 17.1 as a daily driver, so shall i upgrade to 18.1 or it still has bugs ?
Is there a specific version of recovery needed to install this, or would latest LOS 17.1 recovery work?
Also, is there a site with all old LOS 17.1 recoveries? LOS site only has links to the latest 4.
Just tested the ROM.
Yes, regarding the booting, first boot after installation took 7.5 minutes... Although subsequent boots take around one minute.
But I stumbled with serious sound problems, which I'd like to ask about here. But first, background:
XT1543 variant.
Began with ancient CyamogenMod 12 (Android 5.1.1), so I had to first find a 6.0.1 stock ROM.
Found it, entered Lineage Recovery -latest version-, formatted all /system, /data and /cache, installed stock ROM, booted it at least once.
Back to recovery, formatted again /system, /data and /cache, and tried installing first LOS 17.1, which is EOL, but latest LOS one which was official. Then installed Gaps pico.
Booted, all good apparently... except no sound.
Digging a bit more, I realized it's the speaker, or loudspeaker, the one not working at all.
Callings do work normally, sound and mic work, but all other multimedia sound don't: Youtube, ringtones, sound files...
However, they do work only when plugging 3.5 mm jack headphones/headsets. Sound is heard through them indeed. But only with them. Unplugging... no sound again.
So then I tried this 18.1 ROM. No dice: exact same problem.
@althafvly :
Can you, or someone else, help with this big issue?
Thanks.

Did it work correctly on CyanogenMod or the stock ROM? Moto G3 has some mechanical issues that may cause things like speaker (though this does not affect all sounds) or camera to not work, perhaps in your case it is not a software problem?
Hi, which rom are you using for oneplus 9?
Unfortunately, the rom support for this model is very bad and many developers have stopped developing roms for op9. I'm looking for a rom that can get continuous updates. Best regards

For Op 9 and 9 pro finish
"Evolution X" I love the customization it has. Which is why I haven't updated to 12 yet lol. I will sometime. Love the rom though
Personally, DerpOS, which has both OP9/Pro support. Make sure to check out the pro XDA forums, as you'll be able to find many new ROMs outside of just on here.
I used to run EvoX, which is a very good A12 ROM, but when compared to others, isn't updated as much (I believe it's still on the Feb patch). I haven't heard much of when it's planned to be updated, as it's still migrating between maintainers at the moment.
A12.1 builds for the OP9 are limited unfortunately, as LineageOS 19, at the time of writing, is the only "official" one I know of, which you're able to do if you're happy flashing GAPPs.
However, many ROMs have A12.1 working in testing, though not officially released yet. Hopefully you'll see them pop up within the next few weeks, once they've passed their maintainer's QA checks, though I can't speak on their behalf (they'll be ready when they're ready). I'd personally be comfortable in flashing either one of these, as their developers seem very dedicated to supporting the device into the future:
StagOS, DerpOS, DotOS
StagOS in particular is also the only ROM I know of that are working on OOSCam. It seems their progress is coming along well, but you won't find it in any of their public builds as of yet.
As mentioned by a couple of people earlier, though I'd love to recommend Nameless as it's a fantastic ROM, it isn't being maintained at the moment. CrDroid for the Op9, though on paper is maintained, hasn't been updated for a while and the developer has been somewhat MIA. Love to see either come back though.
Personally, I'm still undecided. I saw that someone had problems with the Evox and with the derp very draining of battery. I would be tempted for StageOs ... but I'm still on oxygen 11.2.10.10 even if my device offered me the update to Android 12 C47. However if I do it I cannot flash rom!

Personally haven't had any issues with derp, though I did notice evox had a few weird bugs with material you in the latest update. To each their own, I suppose! OOS11 is still quite good, although I really do like the theaming in a12.
I have flashed all the roms possible. Stag and Evo are pretty gnarly, but I keep it stock OS rooted on 10AA because for some Reason, PuBG is not as smooth on any roms as it is on Oxygen, plus its like the Read-Ahead is way better. Everything Renders in much faster. Like its almost already all there. The Roms arent like that.
I kinda wish someone would make a Gaming Specific rom.
Bone-Dry nothing to it.

Thanks for this. I am so fed up with the bugs on OOS 12 and the app performance throttling. I have been holding off on unlocking the bootloader but I just can't deal with the issues anymore. Would be nice to see what this device can actually do... Sometimes it feels slower than my LG G8 with an 855...
I am waiting for official Pixel Experience so still OOS 12 for me

I realize! I'm relatively sure it's not being maintained though since then, and support for it has been dropped.
