Just bought to replace Fire HD8 - Huawei MediaPad T5 Questions & Answers

Just bought this as I wasn't satisfied with my budget Amazon tablet. My fire hd8 did have a root though and there doesn't seem to be a lot of forum activity associated with this tablet. Do you guys think there is gonna be a root for this device or a bootloader code keygen? I just wasted 5 bucks on DC_unlocker thinking maybe they left this tablet off their supported device list on accident. Also how do other devices with locked bootloader's seem to be able to obtain root?

Also can't transfer apps to sd? Wtf

That was basically my reaction too. HW is OK but that SW limitation in EMUI 8.0.0 kills. And no unlocker or custom ROMs on the forum!!!

[Q] RCA 7" Android Tablet 4.1.1 root/rom/forum?

I bought an RCA 7" tablet as a manager's substitute for a Xelio which was out of stock at WalMart. Hey, $39 seems like a pretty good deal.
However, there is no mention of this device ANYWHERE, not on the WalMart website... apparently, not even the great Oracle Google has heard of this device. There are some obscure references to google play support. It is NOT the new RCA TV Tablet or the stereo one.
From the device:
1GHz processor
built in 4GB memory
WiFi b/g/n
Google Play Store
0.3 mp forward facing camera (woo hoo)
micro sd support up to 32G
Model number RCT6077W2
Android version 4.1.1 Jellybean
Kernel version 3.0.36+
[email protected]#129
Build number RCT6077W2-Android4.1.1-v1.0.1
I would love to figure out what else is hiding under the hood on this device.
Need help unlocking/tweaking. Not sure if I'm in the correct forum.
I AM A NOOB! First step is admission...

to find out about a little more under the hood you should take a look at CF Bench it will tell ya its secerts. as for tweaking im 99% sure that nobody will develop things for it. 40 bucks for a tablet has to have terrible specs, the best you can do is try to root it. try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 good luck mate

Thanks T'zul. Actually the tablet was $80 but I got it for $39 cuz the discontinued Xelio promised was out of stock when I got to Walmart.
I have not been able to locate drivers BECAUSE the tablet is only being released officially next week so I haven't been able to connect for root only to transfer music/photo files.
Yeah, I know that the specs (I listed them above in first post) are lower end but I thought it would be a good toy to learn on/destroy if I wasn't careful.

im sure if you root it you can most likely overclock it and stuff, cheap android tablets like these are always good to start on before you get the big boys that only last a year and then they are outdated. as for the drivers you can try adb and install the android drivers.

Microphone on RCA 7" rct6378w2 Issue
Sorry to change the subject a bit but I am in the correct company, since I have the same tablet bought from Walmart last Black Friday $49. I find the microphone performance very bad. A screeching sound (like feedback) and extremetly low volume on recording using voice recorder or Skype (echo test). Has anyone come accross this issue and got a suggested fix? The tablet is not going to be very functional for video conferencing with this issue. I though i would ask the forum before returning it.
Thanks

I rooted my tablet (same tablet) as you instructed. What are you doing/using to move apps to the SD card? I'm using lucky patcher but it is not giving me the option to move to the SD card. The SD card is mounted. I'm not sure what to do and am getting very frustrated. Thank you in advance for your help
Please provide organized instructions for completely exploiting the RCA tablets
Hi I am new here, I got this tablet for christmas and this forum has helped me so much already, because of you wonderful people I have successfully rooted. However after continuing reading I am a little confused on what exactly to do now, can someone please go over unlocking the bootloader, getting clockworkmod recovery or whatever else I need, flashing cyanogenmod for the RCA tablet and any other steps I might not know of? How can I help and where are we all in completely exploiting the RCA tablets? (RCT6077W2 in specific for me) can I get regular drivers instead of that annoying pdanet? would it be possible to flash other ROM's like AOKP and paranoid android or would those lack in support? what do I have to do w/ the android sdk? what apps, launchers, root apps and exploits do you recommend with this device? how can we overclock and make the best out of this crappy device? any tips, cracks, modifications that make this device better? etc. I know it is a lot of questions but any awnsers and help is really appreciated and It would also be really nice if someone made a nice n00b friendly guide on what to do after rooting.

This absolutely a really good questions. As many people bought the 4 or 8GB versions with plans to expand to external SD card; I hope the moderators / seasoned android pros of this forum can provide a detailed explanation how to accomplish this task. Thanks in advance to all that offer some suggestions / solutions towards the SD card front.

I also thank you for the rooting steps. How can I now upgrade the jelly bean from 4.2.2 to 4.3? I have the same model tablet.
My Only Hope.
I thank you for your response, Jeffrie.* But unfortumately, it did not contain any new information for me.* I am beyond a factory reset. Wiping the data and dalvik cache was actually what killed the tablet after I had actually revived it by flashing the RCT6378W2 firmware to the RCT6077W2 tablet. And I only did that because after days of searching, the internet, the RCT6378W2 firmware was the only RCA tablet firmware to be found.* And at first it seemed like it might work, the only obvious issue was the tablet couldn't tell which way was down.* That was doable.* However after a reboot, the wireless functionality stopped completely.* Wireless couldn't even be switched on.* I could send you numerous links to numerous forums where there are several other consumers with the same issue. And as it stands most of those people feel ripped off and very skidish about purchasing any more RCA products.* I am confident, from the way the 8GB tablets firmware helped bring the 4GB one back from the dead,* that the actual RCT6077w2 4GB tablets original firmware ( 1.0.0) would revive several of your tablets as well as the customers satisfaction and faith in your company. And once they were up and connected to the internet, they wouldt be able to update using your OTA server. Word of your companies actually giving a damn and level of support would surely boost sales as well as bring former customers back.
I know how
I rooted my very own RCT6077W2 (same specs and everything) and got it from Wal-Mart. I know how. Download 4Shared from Play Store, create/login to an account, search up "master root", then click the first one and download it. Install it, then open. I know its in a diff language but click the middle button and then when the screen pops up with the buttons, press the one that is not red. Then again. Once the boxes are away, reboot your device and it is rooted. Congratz, you now have root access.

ZTE Paragon aka ZTE Zephyr (Z753G,Z752C) 2016's new $5/$10 phone

In 2014-2015 it was the ZTE Zinger that was the $10 phone
Well the Zinger is dead but long live the new Zinger: the ZTE Paragon aka Z753G
http://www.zteusa.com/zte-paragon
It's the new $5 / $10 phone
Direct descendant of the ZTE Zinger / Whirl2 / Prelude2 / Salem
same dual-core cpu, same OS (kitkat)
(uses the exact same battery) Correction: very similar battery but slightly more narrow, not same fit
can start and run without a battery exactly like the zinger
But the paragon has improved 1GB of ram instead of old 512MB
also the screen is improved to bare minimum acceptable for 2016, 800x480 on 4 inches, vs the Zinger 3.5 inch 320x480
The Paragon is GSM, but there is also a CDMA model, the Zephyr Z752C:
http://www.zteusa.com/zte-zephyr
The Zinger was impossible to root - the old model Whirl2 with 4.3 could get partial root via ADB shell only. I suspect the Paragon and Zephyr will turn out the same.
ps. looks like the Sonata2 Z755 is directly related as well, same exact phone but with better glass and stereo speaker output? http://www.zteusa.com/zte-sonata-2
Does anyone know if this phone can be unlocked?
So no root for this phone? Too bad. Looks like a good phone for $10.
Based on our experience with the Zinger Z667T and Z667G, not only will this phone be unrootable, it will have write protected partitions.
Unless it turns out like the ZMAX where they missed something but I kinda doubt it.

Do you know why ZTE locked it down so hard? Is there a benefit for them to do that? Isn't locked bootloader make the phone harder to sell?

it probably allows them to sell themselves to phone carriers
When they can show the entire Z667 series has never been rooted or bootloader unlocked, they get the big leagues like T-Mobile and AT&T to show up and buy them for low-end sales of $10 phones
until the Z667 series, ZTE phones were pretty easy to root, the Concord became a little harder before it but even that fell eventually
Kinda surprised the zmax got rooted and bootloader unlocked, I thought it was a later generation but maybe not
Also remember after kitkat 4.4.4 many makes of phones have become very hard to root and bootloader unlocks a pipe dream
I got this phone for my 3 yr old kid because it was $5 - but I cannot figure out a way to even move apps to the SD card! It makes it pretty unusable. I've gone thru a few links about transferring apps using adb but that doesn't seem to work with this phone. Any thoughts about things I could try? Thanks
It may be possible to one-day root this device using the same technique that CrashXXL came up with for Motorola devices that have locked bootloaders. It's not simple but it is not that hard either once someone figures out what files need to be replaced and how to slide in supersu and busybox.
Basically he tricks the device to purposely brick by sending it commands under fastboot mode using pyserial.
That throws the device into qualcomm qload mode which is a very native way to flash to the rom that they use at the factory, etc. Qload drivers for windows x86/x64 are available.
Then he flashes very select parts over the rom with root/supersu in place using that qload mode.
That technique bypasses the write lock the bootloader does and also bypasses signature restrictions (however it does not allow for bypassing efuse and rom downgrades that are monitored by the bootloader)
Once you have root, even without write, you can then use xposed and gravitybox, etc. to make the rom do a lot of tricks normally found on cyanogenmod, etc.
For those that know what they are doing and know how to extract the existing rom using qualcom tools, you can look here to see what he does with the droid maxx/mini: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-ultra/general/droid-mini-maxx-ultra-root-pogress-100-t3071609
his pyserial and batch files are in here: https://yadi.sk/d/p458Cy0XineRC/Python
qload drivers are here: https://yadi.sk/d/p458Cy0XineRC/QDLoad9008 Drivers

Anything at all on being able to permanently root the ZTE Paragon? (Z753G) Phone has half-decent hardware specs except for the crappy storage (1gb). Did you ever get your Paragon rooted?
Unfortunately, no. I gave up and spent a few dollars more and found a good buy on a Verizon Prepaid Moto E (2nd gen). Verizon locked their prepaid version of the Moto E down so I haven't been able to find a way to tinker with it (yet!), but it's still a great phone. My ZTE Is currently collecting dust now, and occasionally gets used for something like streaming Pandora, but that's about it nowadays.... It's a shame, really.

I actually just bought 2 more for my kids, they're great tablets given the price point! They primarily use them for Netflix, so while I love having root access to my hardware, many apps including Netflix don't work with root anymore and I don't have time to tinker with stuff to get around the crippling these companies do to their apps. Heck, I tried to use a whole house VPN solution recently only to have the kids screaming that their Netflix wasn't working. Seems Netflix has a problem with me securing my data and privacy too
7I too have been searching all websites forums.... And used all the tools I've heard of to no avail (vroot, iroot, kingroot, kingoroot etc... You name it).
Nothing I have used has worked and I'd be very grateful if someone would be able to root this Device.
Thank you

There's no way to do an exploit to root your Fire tablet, you can convert your old Fire HD 8 to digital clock.
You can buy a new Fire HD 8+ on Amazon and migrate your valuable contents and files (including Google APKs, photos, videos, documents, projects, and others) to a new Fire tablet.

I don't know why you would buy a $100 fire hd tablet when you can buy a samsung Tab A for $150 that has android (my personal favorite kind of android) instead of doing all the crazy hacking to just get a stock version of android, I also looked at videos on how to actually install android on the new fire hd and you have to brick it and then do some other stuff which is very risky!
Thanks,

Well, I wouldn't drop a Benjamin on the clunky device you referenced (5th gen HD8 goes for $40 USD). As for Samsung's customizations you either love 'em or hate 'em. I fall into the latter category being an AOSP bigot.
tldr: Don't assume your tastes and hesitations are universally shared.

Question Huawei MatePad paper custom firmwares

Hi!
First of all, sorry for posting in this thread , but there is no other thread for the Huawei matepad paper.
My question is if there is or will be any custom firmwares for this tablet, because even if its a good e-reader, notetaking device, i don't trust it for handling my private documents, because its Huawei and also it runs Harmony OS.
Maybe my answer comes after 1,5 a month, but I'll give You my 5 cents. Unfortunately, as there is no way to unlock Huawei this days do not count on any custom roming.
It's stupid of them, but sadly that's the way they choose to do it.

I love this device. Got it somewhere in September and have to say it crushes any other eink Android tablets (got few, mostly made by Onyx). It's superresponsive, doesnt lag at all and, with help of Aurora, has access to Play Store and all ebook apps available there.

sorry, bro... but our tablet is dead as a "custom-rom-enabled" device
it works good (yes, with old Android 10 VM and old HMOS 2, but good) without modifications.
I hope our chinese brothers makes HUAWEI to release some sources and some unlock-software that helps us make our device great again!
Price was good, so I've bought it.
If I knew that it will not receive an upgrade to HMOS 3 and not able to unlock and flash some custom rom, I didn't buy it
Are You sure?
On their HOS3 site I see that Paper is included: https://consumer.huawei.com/en/harmonyos-3/
They are still updating other devices and Paper is not the flagship device unfortunately.
And even without HOS3 it's great device. A10 won't be forgotten by Google for few more years, so not a problem for me.
