Added: Sorry for the post here, but after a brief run through with the 101 8gb and see how the hotswap works fine, hard drives work, two logical drives showing in storage mode and wiimote working- kind of got me frustrated that something as basic for hardware does not work on the Gtablet.
Edited, since the G is in the ad. Edit: Will the many out of box issues create a return frenzy?
1. Accelerometer screwed up
2. Microsd not seen in USB storage mode
3. Microsd & USB not hot swappable
4. Hard drives (FAT32, of course) do not appear to work
5. Box still has Flash on it
6. No download option on the web page for the half a55 update the OEM did.
7. Viewing angles only a modder would learn to love.
8. Laggy UI
9. Youtube does not work hardly at all. In fact, putting the word "work" in the sentence, takes the point out of context- It is broken.
10. Most popular game on Android (so far) evah! does not work (Angry Birds) nor does a few others without the Nvidia patch.
11. Bluetooth and USB devices appear to not work well at all
12. One of the dumbest app market access solutions since the DIVX movie rental disaster by Circuit City (remember that?).
Sure, the Archos 101 is gimped with half the ram and a 3630, but items 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 , 10 and 11 actually work very well- JUST as the Gtablet should have.

Saturday my G goes back and I will hover like a buzzard for a refurb. My guess is there will be plenty of "carcasses" to choose from
Just curious with all the issues you pointed out why you would want a refurb one at all.
Hoping the issues are not absolute and will be fixed

Maybe you can lurk around for mine then. sorry guys, but it looks like I'm going to jump ship to. I've learned how to work around most of the software limitations, but I just can't seem to get around the horrible ergonomics of this thing. Got past the power button and side button limitations, somewhat. I'm just really tired of accidentally hitting the back button, home button, considerable eye fatigue when reading, carpal tunnel, after prolonged use, etc. Such a shame. I really think this thing has a lot of potential outside of all that. I may hold out for the Notion Ink Adam, supposedly going to be available for pre-order in a week or so.

Must be regional then? No add in mine (Kentucky area).
Here in Connecticut the ad came out yesterday for today's (Thanksgiving Day) sale. Only about 45 minutes left for the deal. Tried to go yesterday to Staples for match price but it turned into a hassle so I left. Thought about going to Sears today, purchase, return to Staples all to save $15. Decided not worth my time. Perhaps Sears will put it back on sale after next weekend when they only sell 10 of these. Especially when netbooks are on sale today for less than $200. Walmart had a great looking one.
Gtab $380 @ sears w/ MIR for a DOCK!
New poster/long-time lurker here.... Wanted to let you know about this:
1. Surf to sears' shoplocal site (sears.shoplocal.com)
2. View Sears' 11/25 ads - Gtab is on the front for $380.
3. Click on the front page to view the ad, then
4. Click on the Gtab (this will take you to sears' online shop).
5. Click on the "buy online" button.
6. Notice that there is now a mail-in rebate! So, click on the "details" link.
7. The MIR is for a free DOCK! (6-8 weeks....)
Furthermore, I bought my gtab on 11/21, then took it back and asked for today's deal. They re-rung my purchase for today, gave me $20 back, and now I have a receipt dated TODAY so that I can get the dock....

Our Sears ad did not have the 101. Weird. I pity my narrow minded lack of consideration for other sources except our mailed ad.

At least you are able to pick one up inside a brick and mortar store compared with the Archos 101 which is no where to be found.

Crap! Had I waited one more day I could have had this. Too late now. I pulled the trigger yesterday. I did email Staples to see if they could match the price but they said since it is a mail in rebate they won't. I thought only the dock was a mail in but they said it comes down to whatever the price is in the cart which is still 399. Hopefully for me (not for you) the dock will suck and I won't feel like I lost anything.
Hey XDA,
My beloved Omnia 7 has sailed off into my sister's hands, and I was left stranded on an island of sadness, phoneless.
But no matter, as the power of the intertubes brought me here, and much other places.
I am looking for a savior budget phone.
And I found one.
No, folks, it's not a WP7 device as you may have anticipated, ala the shining turd that is the Nokia Lumia 610 (or some other
generic, faecal device). I have ventured to the lands of china and have explored options I would have not dared to before due to fear
of SARS, rape, and being casually ripped off by scamers.
And guess what, brotha? It appears like the Hero 9300+ is my guy.
Yeah, yeah, I know. A clone, not to mention a modified one. But if this is a turd, it's a sparkling one, worth a whole $200 dollars.
Some specs (the most important + drawbacks):
-CPU: MTK6577, two cores running at a generic 1GHz. Seems like a piece of ****, but one that flies pretty fast. Antutu scores look rather promising.
-GPU: SGX-531. The old cousin of our modern SGX-540's and 544's. Not bad, not great. It does the job for me given I can play
generic time wasters like Dead Trigger at a solid 30fps with next to no lag.
--OS: Android 4.0.4 (marketed off as 4.1 JellyBean; the developers thought they could fool us English folks by editing the SDK during ROM creation, har har har. ******s.)
-RAM: 512MB. This may be a problem given ICS takes up what, 300MB? Plus I want to run a launcher (Why? Because **** you, that's why) which will take up additional memory space.
-Camera a world class piece of ****. 5MP marketed as 8MP, records video at who knows what resolution. (I will be installing another ROM for this bad boy which will enable 1080p recording unless you guys have better suggestions how to pimp this thing up).
BEST PART: Gorgeous 5.3 inch display.
Anyways, that's that for specs.
Price is $210, with Fedex delivery, from Pandawill (Safe? Not safe? Hm, got PayPal covering my ass anyway).
THE ULTIMATE QUESTION:
Is there anything around this price that beats the **** out of this but has a display which is not too small?
Am I making the right decision here?
Thanks matey for giving this your two cents. It's all appreciated.

I highly doubt you would find another phone that isn't from china that has those specifications and price tag, however, I still wouldn't buy the phone because...well it's from china and not of a legitimate/recognised phones manufacturer. I would instead pass this phone and maybe save up another 100 dollars and get a phone of similar specs (maybe not the same screen size) from htc, sony, samsung etc. just for the security, support, safety and the mods

Hey matey, thanks for the reply.
I don't think I can agree with you more. This is a huge risk and I know it, although review have been rather positive (which, I must say, is encouraging).
Given the price point and the fact that I need a phone ASAP, I am not so sure I can bang out another $100 bucks for an imaginary phone with similar specs; I mean, this thing performs closely to the galaxy nexus- a ~$500 device. I also found out that Chinese phones are going to be blessed with new quad and oct core processors in Q4 2012 and Q2 2013, respectively. Going to be an insane jump, but I bet they will be price accordingly.
Thanks for your response nonetheless, I'll definitely go ahead and snoop around for brand devices right now.

Glad to see you coming around in your mindset... imho, buying some Chinese knockoff is only asking for trouble. If it were my decision to make, I'd find a friend with an old Android you can use and buy a real phone with a warranty, a little support, and some quality behind it. The specs may be one thing, but if I know Chinese knockoffs, everything about the case/finish/etc will be absolute junk.
I'd rather use a non-Android for a while, personally...

I was actually looking into WP7 devices earlier because my previous device was one. I am sad to note that nothing compares other than an old Samsung Focus (much like my Omnia) from the US for $170. I mean, it's not too bad, but I feel it's time for an upgrade. I snooped around other shops, nothing comes close to the Hero, but your suggestions have shaken me up a bit. I'll be wary as this online buying thing is no game of tag- they can disappear on you.
What did you eventually purchase?
I have X710D and did have a bad experience with the seller, but eventually found another seller who I have now purchased many phones from with great success.
In relation to Chinese phones, I have to say walk with care as many fiddle the OS version number and it always pays to ask as many questions as possible prior to purchase. If there are features that you want then ask for confirmation, if they don't know then treat this as a warning about the seller.
Quality: I have no problem with the quality of build of Chinese phones. I do however have an issue with some stupid design decisions - like the 3.5mm headphone jack on the X710D - can't take standard headphones.
Just found out that the X710D has stopped manufacture, so hope that a better design is coming.
9300+ looks promising.
Hi all.
I too was in the market for a new phone and purchased a 9300+ from a site called Android for cheap and I can tell you it's a great phone. It's zippy and handles anything you can throw at it. I'm running wp8 custom on mine and it looks beautiful on the big screen. I'd recommend this phone to others as have I already. Gaming on it has no lag and due to the multi touch screen its really responsive.
I've had mine for 3 months and I think when I eventually purchase a new phone it will probably be a newer model of the same phone..... If they are still in existence then lol.
All in all its an awesome phone. I don't think you will be disappointed

Wondering how the Surface is doing for sales at BB and Staples now. I normally wouldn't care as I love my Surface but we all need it to be successful if we want to see some good app development in the Store and see growth in quality apps, which is currently lacking in the store.
I will tell you that over the weekend I was at South Coast Plaza mall in Southern California and the Microsoft Store there, which is big , was pretty busy (Maybe not Apple busy, but pretty good traffic).
Anybody have any info from BB or Staples personnel in the know or any other source?
I believe it is online only availability.
Stores have stock now. Was in a Best buy today. Surface was the 1st thing you see walking in the door.

I have read elsewhere that it has been spotted and purchased in Staples and Best Buy. I don't imagine a huge impact on RT sales until the Pro is out in the wild and attracting a lot more attention and awareness for the Surface brand.
Also, some of those cases where it is set up at best buy it has been said that they are not setting it up with the keyboard cover which IMO would draw much more attention.
We just got our Surface display set up at Staples, and a few people checked it out. But before we ever had them in store people kept coming in looking for the tablet with the "click" commercial, so i'd say the interest will be there and I love what the Surface does, so ill be glad to show it customers.

John Lewis now have them in physical stores in the UK.
Microsot surface rt hidden at best buy
I visited a BestBuy in Gainesville, Florida, with my son. I wanted to see the Surface RT even though I own one. I could not see one. Then I spotted it with the black cover among other portable products. The Surface RT is not displayed at any specific promotional spot as the other other products are. So, even though, BestBuy carries it, I do not think people will notice it.
I hope Microsoft will address the issue.
went into Staples on Sunday (Dec 16) after I found out online that they had them in the store on Saturday. Big sign at entrance advertising the Surface. When I purchased the 64Gb version of it I found out that I was the first person in this Store who bought one. The folks at Staples wanted me to report back to them whether I liked it. I told them I will surely like it (played with it for some time at a MS Store in Boston). They told me that they only found out Wednesday that they will have them in the Store on Saturday and thought it seemed rushed by MS.
anyway, glad I was able to buy it at a local store (next MS store is 1.5hs from here).
place of Staples: Beavercreek, Ohio (Dayton area).
I just checked at the local Best Buy. It was just tossed in with the other tablets, and they didn't have the full selection of keyboards (nor did they have a keyboard out with it).
Poor product placement? Lmao...I think people who want it, know about it and will get it. Other random people, most likely will get an ipad. Lol. I honestly thought they would have a MS rep in every major best buy location to hype it up. Or , even a special station where multiple Surfaces are setup allowing people to play with them...kind of like apple has its booth in every store. Hopefully MS will do good on sales, even with poor product placment because it is a very important and effective marketing strategy.
I need to go check out my local store. I was sure I wanted the Pro but after realizing that the RT does a lot more than i thought i decided i would get that. Then after reading up some more im not sure if I am up for a windows 8 tablet anymore, just because i am more familiar with android. So i went from being 100% to not knowing what tablet I want. They get old fast... :/

Coming from Android as well, I find the Surface Rt way more customizable out of the box via registry tweaks and such. Something only possible via rooting android. I also find it much more stable than ICS (I cant comment on JB as I have not played with much on my wifes Nexus 7 since I got my Surface now.
At the Best Buy I visited (in KY), it was basically in the back where the cheap ipad covers were. The Kindle, ipad, android, and every other tablet got much better placement and the sales people weren't talking about them and knew almost nothing about them.
I think this whole plan was put together quickly and without any real prep.
I work at a staples in Oklahoma. All our documentation was about how big a win it would he for us to be the first retailer to have it on the shelf. The only spot we had open for the surface was the end cap with the nexus so they left all the nexus display stuff and accessories up for the first 3 days, but had the Surface model and tags in front... ugh. I guess technically we did have it first. Lol. They didn't work out the deal till like Wednesday of last week and we had stock by Thursday so in the corporate world that's crazy ass fast.
We sold 3 to one business guy with a startup that needed internet explorer and office and that's it. Other wise I've sold 2 to my personal friends that I told to wait and not buy online till they can come in to my store to buy it. Ha. Also, if you decide to take funny pictures of your face and perhaps other body parts, the photo app love tile will keep scrolling the pics even after you delete them... just a heads up. Lol

Hopefully MS will follow up and get proper displays for Staples and Best buy as it really is a great product (I have had one since launch and have done some awesome tweaks on mine (full flash, no lock screen, starts up when opened, networked, etc). Hardwarewise it is stable, and the OS is getting better -It just needs the developer community to get behind it, and that is only going to happen if they see users($$$).
After my good experience at the local Staples here in Dayton, Ohio I also went to BestBuy today. What a let-down. I couldn't find anything about the Surface. The only special place I found was the iMac stand that is placed pretty much in your face when you walk into the store. When I asked for the Surface a guy in the laptop section told me that "oddly enough, it's placed in the mobile section". Okay, when I walked over to the mobile section I found two or three tablets with Win8 (Asus Avivo, Samsung), but there was no Surface. When I asked again the BB guy told me that they are right there, pointing to the laptops I just looked at. Doh! I guess anything Windows 8 goes by Surface at BB at least in this store.
On the other hand I am not really surprised.....
Yeah the Surface at our staples is set up on and end cap, which isnt a terrible spot, but it doesn't quite jump out at you, and the end caps beside it are the Lenovo Twist and the new Samsung 23" All-in-one desktop, so its not terrible placement.

Hey guys me again
I said that I wasn't sure about whether I wanted the Surface anymore after seeing all the android tabs and what not (because I have a lot of experience with the android OS.) I love android, I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 currently, and I was thinking of buying an android tablet so everything would be synced and what not. After thinking about it some more, and going to my local Best Buy, to play with the Surface, I realized that I definitely wanted it over anything else. I realized that I want something new, and all android has to offer are the same things I can already do with my phone, just a little bigger. I'm definitely going to go purchase this tablet in the next few days.
As far as product placement, my local Best Buy did an excellent job of actual physical placement. It is right in front of you when you walk in the store. I, somehow, still missed it and had to ask an employee to point me in the right direction. They need a banner or some sort of sign. LOL. They need to hire me as a manager, I'm sure I can put my BA Business and MSIS degree to good use
I was worried about the screen resolution, but in person, it is everything and more. I am not that picky about resolution, as long as everything looks good, and everything looks amazing on the tablet. Who cares if it doesn't have the crazy high resolutions, because it is perfect for what it is.
Also, played with the type cover because that is the only cover they had out at my local Best Buy. I couldn't test the touch cover, but the type cover is amazing. I played around with office, and I literally fell in love with the little device. I must get it. I think if everyone would stop being so bias and give it a chance, they will fall in love with it. I am an android fan, but I am giving this tablet a chance. Plus, the android tablet I bought last year, I ended up returning because all it was to me is an overgrown phone. Every time I wanted to do something I couldn't decide whether to do it on my android phone or my android tablet. LOL! So I just returned it to avoid the headache altogether.
Anyhow, I don't think the stores are doing too hot with sales. I didn't even see anyone else playing with the tablet, maybe because I was hogging the only one they had out, but who knows. Sucks because I really want it to do well.

Costco: guy asks "where is the old windows ?"
Lady asks "are there any windows seven laptops left?"
mom+kids "we'll just go get an ipad" (kids cheering, after trying to use the w8 demo unit for a few minutes)
Bestbuy:
Lady "where are the new ipads?"
Dude "this thing has awesome specs! Do you know how to put real windows on it?" (To his buddy)
Salesguy, "ya, I don't know about the surface thing. Doesn't sell. Can't believe they didn't have the pro ready for christmas."
All folks who might have considered a surface, maybe. Its not getting any serious attention from what I've seen.
I bought one from my local Best Buy, they just had it out with the other tablets, had the $499 32Gb, $599 32Gb with cover (One I got) and the $699 64Gb with cover.
I think Microsoft could really benefit for a better advertising campaign, also they should ship specific display models to stores that have a looping display on them. A black square with a black screen doesn't make one want to pick it up.
It's a nice device, build quality is awesome, OS is buggy though. Not sure if I'll keep it or not (have a month thanks to longer holiday return policy) or maybe get something like the 13" Lenovo yoga.
I still haven't gotten the white list hack to work, unless that was fixed not to in the latest update.
I still don't really get the hype or people waiting for the Pro, it's just a tablet computer, maybe it will be nicer in quality, buy really you can buy that now, the surface is great because of the battery life, size and for the most part a full OS, the pro looses most of that.
I do have to say I own a iPad mini and love the thing for size and weight but for the most part it's a gamming device, even my old full size ipad was just that also.
One of my first wishes for the surface is 4 rows of tiles instead of three, my start screen is getting kind of long!

I also wish there were 4 tiles, and I also want the ability to group apps into folders on the start screen - I have over 100 apps installed and its a bit tough to manuevur, even with shrinking the size of the start screen shortcut.
Soon I'll be in South American countries where it's fairly common to have your phone snatched on the street or robbed at gun point. Apparently a strategy that many locals use is to have their "nice phone" at home and something less nice for going out. Worrying that my current OP7 may be too much eye candy even though it's not branded.
A smaller screen size is definitely less flashy and attractive to thieves. I liked the size of my old Huawei P10 (5.1") but have passed it on, and besides it was very hard to root (so hard that I gave up).
Would some of you be able to recommend some easy-to-root (TWRP + Magisk) phones with a smaller screen, say in the 3.5 to 5.2" range?
The model can be current or from a couple years back, it doesn't matter.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
By the way, I'd be willing to get a second-hand unit if the recommended model is no longer made.
I know i am probably going to catch some heat. But anybody know how to carrier unlock this thing for free aside from asking att because i know answer because I tried . so i can use boost mobile. Read my story below to understand why I’m asking.
so back in mid 2020 me and my wife (who cant physically work) fell on hard times which resulted in our phone bill getting cut off and keep on growing, well back this December we got enough money to get me a phone for work, lg51 on boost mobile (cheapest best phone walmart had). (It’s junk) still can’t afford our bill plus imei check shows bill unpaid. I have tried a lot of places and either they want a lot of money or cant do it. I know I should be happy with what i have (which i am) but i miss the function of my note it’s easier to type on and see in daylight.
Thank you

Update, well after talking with a company (google search) if i do get it unlocked it will work but may be permanent locked which would need a new imei, etc at the tune of $150. I would love to have my note work like it used to.
My wife has a family member who is smarter then i with tech but he hasn't responded to her messages due to past issues in the family.
I can use my note but i would have to take the lg with me to hotspot which im data capped at 15gb (for data/hotspot) then its low speed.
All i know is playing the same game (sweet escapes) on both note 10+ 5g and the k51. The k51 lags hardcore and freezes up even on max performance the other phone i can play any game (i run max performance for games) and never have any issues.
AT&T never forgets.
They will hound you until you come to terms with them. Talk to them and try to work out an arrangement you can honor... no harm in trying.
Don't use a bandaid when you really need a battle dressing... or a tourniquet.
Filing for bankruptcy may be a viable option at this point to restructure your debts and to start rebuilding your credit. If after 3 years of trying to repay all your debts doesn't work you can use a chapter 7 to have the debts completely wiped*. Bush screwed up the bankruptcy laws bad. If you qualify for Chapter 7 now and owe more than $20G, do it now.
* you keep your house if you own one, your car and most if not all of your personal property. A fresh start. Banks will offer you credit almost as soon as it's finalized.
