Wondering if anyone has tried this or not. Haven't really used a VPN myself before and before I go digging to find a decent one I'm curious if anyone has tried to use a VPN to enable RCS in the Google Messages app yet and found success. Thanks.
Just tested this. I'm from the Netherlands and couldn't activate the "chat" function. It just says my provider dienst support it. When I VPN with the UK I can activate it and set it up. After turning off VPN I'm back where I started , not working anymore.
So I guess yes, it works with VPN, just couldn't test it with someone because no one can use it in the Netherlands.
Edit:
Tried the same thing a second time but with no luck. Simple keeps saying that my provider doesn't support it. Of course I tried force stopping the app but didn't help.

I have been able to use my hotspot without any issues until the other day. I'm now being redirected to T-Mobile's page asking me to add the hotspot feature.
I've tried to research and find a way to bypass this but haven't had any luck yet. The only thing that works is TOR but it's awfully slow. I've tried adjust apn's, using the official google wifi hotspot apk with generic ICS selected and still no luck.
Does anyone know of a proven method to get this working free?

NVM. I found a trick that works.
Change your computers useragent to dolphin or opera.

I haven't rooted my device or anything and have the latest updates. I have used VPN before and it worked fine, but then without a real reason it stopped working. I have used several apps and none of them seem to make a difference. I mainly used it to get acess to a playstore in another region, since mine is very restricted.
I have tried resetting the device and it did nothing.
Anyone know a solution for this?

There are literally no messages appearing. I have tried cyberghost it says it connects, but the playstore looks the same without any apps. I have tried using Psiphon and when looking at the log it says "handshake request failed *server name*" several times and then it connects. Then I open the playstore and it looks the same without any new apps. The same with OpenVPN, Vpn1Click, Unlimited VPN and so on.
It is really frustrating me that I can't find an answer anywhere on the internet, I seem like the only one with this weird issue.
Wondering if I should try resetting it again, but I risk not getting the apps I got over VPN back again.

Hello Everyone,
I recently upgraded to CM 12.1 and discovered that my WiFi won't automatically connect to my router anymore if it doesn't detect access to the internet (I'm in China and Google is Blocked). I believe this explains why this is happening as there is internet and having to manually connect each time is annoying at least Is there a way to disable this "new feature" ?
Regards,
Bob
In Settings, got to WiFi, press the menu button in the top right and there should be an Advanced settings section or something similar (sometimes varies based on ROM/Language). Then untick the Avoid poor connection option. This should resolve your problem. If not, you may not have the correct firmware for 5.1.1
I already have Avoid poor connections unchecked. Any other way to fix this?
Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Try disable mobile data before connect to wifi, maybe this way should help

I have the EXACT same problem - it really does happen because you're in China and the method of internet access testing is through Google servers blocked in here.
I'm still trying to figure out how to disable the test or maybe reroute the destination.
It would definitely be a temporary solution to make the VPN active 24/7 if you put it on the router instead of on the phone / computer etc.
Let us know if you find a solution!

this was a very popular and general problem for every Chinese user with google service device.
you have to root your phone and manually change the google server address to a local substitute site, or just turn off the google server detect.
the easiest way is to use an APK developed by Chinese to have all these things done in a click.
search NoExclamation Portal Server 1.5

came here with a google search. this problem is generic to later android versions. i'm on cyanogenmod 12.1 which is i gather is android 5.1.
looking at DNS logs, it tries to access: http://connectivitycheck.android.com - which redirects to google and fails as it's blocked by the GFW.
just downloading the chinese apk to fix it... the link to it i found is: http://m.hiapphere.com/apk-org.foxteam.noisyfox.noexclamation
EDIT: so now got noexclamation the app running, but not sure it's doing anything. UI is in chinese, not sure what options to deal with and how. anyone have success with it?
EDIT2: it's like this: install the app. leave it at defaults where it's using the developers website for connectivity check. toggle it ON if it's not already (i believe needs root). reset network settings by toggling airline mode ON/OFFl. you're good.
however - conceptually better fix would is to take the "feature" OUT, not alter the server that it's checking the accessibility of. from the chinese thread, i gather this will get done by:
su
settings put global captive_portal_detection_enabled 0
this seems to survive reboot as well. problem solved, end of monologue!
Solved** Turns out it was HOLA, a VPN service that was blocking the pages. Just in case anyone else here is using pandora and uses that app... also i dotn know if it matters, but its worth mentioning, i changed the default ip to 192.168.0.1, and starting ip to 192.168.0.10
Good Morning-
I am using a Verizon HTC m8 in Venezuela, I have used several in the past, but this is the first one on MM... Stock, removed bloatware myself, rooted and s-off... i used the patch to enable the stock tethering app, but when i connect to my computer I can only get skype and some work applications (as well as the webpage for work, yay) to load. All other sites give me the page first that says no internet, then quickly loads a page that says page down or blocked. On 5.0.1 I was able to connect without any issues, I dont know if there is something I need to further configure to get it to work... any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!
I have a picture, but i cant find where to load it... so if anyone needs to see it, please get at me
hello everyone
I'm an expat in China and as many of you know google is blocked in China, for email and search using VPN works perfectly but google feeds (google now cards) just shows error message whenever i try to use it.
I thought to myself maybe because I'm using VPN the device knows I'm using it and it knows my actual location and tells google, but using a VPN installed on my router to access the internet there is no way the device could know that.
And i know its not settings error because the moment i connect to airport WiFi in my original country google now starts working again.
I tried disabling location services in every google app in permissions but yet it doesn't want to work.
so my question is how does google do that (knows that I'm leaving in China) and is there a way to disable it
Thanks
