So i got a Pixel 3 2 weeks ago. I didn't have any issues until yesterday.
In the middle of the day the battery went from 55% to 1% within seconds and the phone shut down. I couldn't turn it back on either.
Temperature was neither extremely hot nor cold.
When i plugged it in and turned it on it went to about 40% immediately.
I thought it might be an issue with root, so i completely reset the phone, installed the latest stock rom and re locked the bootloader.
Again, at 27% today the phone randomly shut off. Then when charging, the phone only charges to 85% and then says it is completely charged. If i unplug and plug it back in, it goes up another 1 or 2 % and then says it is charged again.
Does anybody have similar issues? is this a hardware defect?
Thanks for your answers
sounds like a hardware defect...

I hope I am in the right forum for this...
Lately my two year old tf700t won't stay on for more than 10 mins at a time. I have the dock and both parts say more than 100% charged.
Due to my device being out of warranty and thinking something was wrong with my stock asus rom. I downgraded the rom, rooted it, unlocked and tried several different roms.
My tablet is still turning off even though it says it is 100% charged.
Is my problem a bad battery? I think it has discharged "fully" (to where it warns me) maybe 10 times in the two years i've had it in the dock. It has almost always been plugged in or lightly used around the house. It has never been drained and recharged repeatedly to the point that I would have thought it to be worn out by now.
When I've had batteries go previously, they just drain fast from 100% to 0%. Both batteries are at 100% and it won't stay on but maybe 10 minutes unplugged. When I plug it in, it takes about 5-10 mins before it turns back on again. Meanwhile, the led by the power button blinks orange like the battery is dead. When it turns back on, it tells me I'm fully charged. grr
Does anyone know what is going on? Is there a way to test the battery or is there some chip inside the thing that needs to be reset or something.

It sounds like that you have a calibrations issue with your device. When your device is shut off by itself, you should leave it unplug about a day. Then recharge your device after a day of depletion and hope that it will solve your problem, good luck...:fingers-crossed:
Mhhhh - "almost always plugged in"?
Not the best use for these batteries. 2 years of that could have killed it.... And then - may not have anything to do with it if the battery went bad. 2 years is not an unreasonable life expectancy for a battery for a portable device.
In addition to LMK's suggestion, you could try this:
Let it die and then sit for a day unplugged.
Connect it via USB to your PC and let it trickle charge for 8+ hours (charging indicator will not even come on). Make sure your PC doesn't shut down or go into sleep mode during that time.
It should be charged enough to boot it. Check if it made a difference.
So, I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 3 that I got around the time they first came out. It's never gotten wet or really had any problems until the past few months. The first thing that happened was the power button broke and it was stuck down for quite a while before I figured out how to "fix" that. A little carefully applied WD-40 around the power button did the trick. I got a new battery and everything seemed fine.
Lately, however, the charging is not working correctly at all. I'm using the same charger that came with the phone and it will seem to work fine most of the time, but it has problems once unplugged. For example, I'll charge it overnight and wake up to it being at 50-80% battery. Other times, I'll charge it overnight, it will then show 100%, but after unplugging it, it will very quickly, like a few minutes, drop to the ~85%. What happened today though was the final straw. I turned it off and let it charge for about 4 hours until it said it was full. I then took the battery out for 5 minutes before putting it back in and plugging it in again. It then said it was at ~15% battery. I turned it on and, yes, 13% after ~4 hours of charging. I still occasionally have problems with the power button getting stuck and causing a rapid discharge, but I can fix that now and I carry two batteries usually. Not being to charge them though isn't going to work.
I currently live in Taiwan and use Chunghwa Telecom. I constantly have a little notification that says "This SIM card is from an unknown source", but I didn't have problems until months after moving here.
Any thoughts on what could be causing the charging to malfunction and how to fix it? I love my phone and would hate to part with it.
Recently had to replace battery.
Phone was shutting almost immediately after it was disconnected from charger. Charging status when not switched on showed the battery kinda going in reverse. Phone was really odd as it would suggest the battery had 100% charge and then within minutes of disconnecting it was shutting down.
I tried a factory reset/refresh with no change. So I ordered a Genuine replacement battery off flea bay and installed that last Thursday.
Initially phone seemed ok, then wen a bit weird and shut down even though charge was like at 70% or so. Wouldn't restart until plugged in and then in shutdown mode the battery/charging indicator would show 0% and then very quickly showed 70%. Good bit though was it was going up and not down like before.
Fully charged phone overnight. It then seemed really good and lasted until Tuesday with 66% charge still showing. I had not installed FB or Twitter which made a huge difference. Then yesterday it just shutdown again. When plugged in showed 0%, within minutes back to 70% and then charged to 100% in the space of an hour or so.
So I am looking for any advice. Is this just calibration issues that the phone needs to get past. Is it possible the phone has corruption int he ROM.
I appreciate it might be a hardware fault but seems weird that the replacement battery is clearly showing a big improvement suggesting battery was EOL after 2 years use.
TIA

Same problem here i will try to install the oficial rom of xt890 if works i back here if not i don't know what to do
Sooo............issue is still present. Odd thing which I am unable to confirm, due to rnadomness of shutdowns, it that I think it is slowly learning the state of the battery as it originally was shutting down at 70% after 2-3 days on standby. then 66% hen 56%. I did a clear cache partition and a fresh install but still the issue was present.
Clearly the new battery is lasting longer than the old one, just the phone does not seem to know to reduce the charge indicator all the way to 0%.
Anyone any idea why this might be happening.
TIA
G
Just to add i'm having the same problem.
Symptoms started last week running the stock kitkat rom so i ordered and a fitted a new battery. Initially everything looked good phone said 100% left it over night and noticed it had shut off when i came back to it. Plugged it in to the charger and it said 0% so i charged back to 100%, booted up android and almost immediately it begins discharging rapidly, i would say within 15 minutes its back down to 0%.. I've done this a few times now even left it on charge overnight for 8 hours but its still discharging rapidly everytime. The craziest thing is even if it says 0% in android i can still boot in to recovery and flash away so clearly there is charge in the battery its just android thats out of sync.
What i've tried so far:
Different wall chargers/USB leads/Outlets
Wiped everything in TWRP and flashed CM11
Factory Reset several times
Various battery calibration apps
My next step is going to be trying RSD to flash the stock ROM but beyond that i dont know what to do.
I'm experiencing EXACTLY THE SAME ISSUE with my Razr i, replaced the battery and it's still discharging very fast
Eventually managed to resolve my new battery issue simply by fully charging and discharging several times. It started to hold charge after the 7th charge and after several more discharges it's now up to full capacity.
As of maybe a couple of months, my phone shuts off almost immediately after getting to 20% it turns off and when plugged starts charging from 16% or so. Any idea what may be causing this and how to fix it?
I have the same issue mate. It happened twice for me. Was using Snapchat and the battery drained down to 19% and then it suddenly showed 0% and the phone shut down. And then after I charged it for a bit, it showed around 20%
I have same problem here, guess factory reset might helps.
Same issue on my friend's Honor 8.
Mine turns off at random percentages. Sometimes it happens at 20%, 10% and most recently 67%. I'm wondering if changing the battery would fix the issue
same issue here disappeared for like 2 months and it happened today
This suddenly happened to me today, I was using Snapchat and I took a pic, was writing a caption to send to my friends and all of a sudden it dropped to 0% and shut off, even though it was already at low battery I know It still had enough life for me to be able to send the snap and listen to music. What sucks is that I didn't look at the battery percentage before It turned off but when I turned it back on it was at 13%, even though when I tried turning it on from before it kept telling me 0% and shutting off repeatedly
i noticed that when i plugged in the charger and checked the recents all the apps opened were showing up.....looks like its doing soft reboot but cant complete the reboot......smh!!!
Same problem here

Rooted stock
I realize that it happens when it's really cold outside. It happened to me a second time today when I was outside in the cold, so I guess the phone turns off to prevent anything from happening internally, because it shut off at around 50% of battery and when I turned it back on it wasn't 0% like it had told me
I'm switching out the battery today I'll let you guys know if it fixes the issue
No root till now fully stock.
Well replacing the battery fixed the issue. I also deleted battery stats once it was charged to 100%
Same issue here. My device goes from 20% to 1% in about 2 seconds. And then when i charge the phone, it shows charging from 19%. It happens all the time.
Hi, had same but my first time died when I was flying drone with it, it was at 17% of bat. I was so nervous that I lose my drone that I forgot to check what was the problem with bat. Now when I was trying to film my daughter skiing after 2min outside of my pocket it turned off although bat. was at 78% and tem. outside was -3*C. Yesterday I've send it on warranty, I let you know what they say (if anything). Mine H8 is stock no root.
Wander is there any app than can check number of cycles of battery, this way I will know for sure if Service replaced battery or only told that it was replaced

Did you guys need root to delete the battery stats?

Did the service center fix the issue?
Yes, they replaced battery, screen and frame, actually they only left old back panel and MB. Screen was replaced because of dead pixels (but I didn't saw any before). After a year, I think I have same issue with battery again but this time no warranty anymore ;(
Two days ago i dropped my phone in a (clean) toilet and picked it up in a matter of seconds. Since then many strange things have happened, the first 10 minutes after I dropped it the phone worked just fine but for the camera that was all foggy. Then it went out and I put it in rice in front of a cool air vent. 2 hours later when an alarm went off it turned itself on even though when I tried to turn it on it wouldn't let me. So to be on the safe side, I turned it off and left it to dry for another 24 hours. When the 24 hours had went I tried to turn on the phone but it was completely dead. I plugged it in the charger and tried to boot the phone and all it did was blink the led 3 times fast then start blinking steadily for about half an hour. When the half hour had passed it started showing the "charging when turned off screen" saying 0% charged. So I thought I left it overnight and when I wake up it still says 0%, so it hasn't charged anything in 8 hours, which is kinda strange.
What has happened with my phone and how can I fix it, do I need a battery replacement?
Thank you for answers.

Well it's obviously water damage. Might not just be a battery issue, I suggest you send it in to Huawei to fix/replace.
