Yeah the best way to do it is right after you format in TWRP flash stock OS and the variety zip then back it up. Then whenever you want to go back to it to update you won't have any problem.

No none at all. Just us peeps who flash a lot, don't want to have to format Everytime we go back to stock or try another rom. I guess it makes you a little less secure, if you lose your phone.

You don't need to flash it to restore a backup that is already decrypted, but if you flash a new ROM you need to flash that verity after. Everytime.

I have a copy of stock ROM TWRP backup. I'll see if I can upload it when I get off today. I think it is update B131 on Stock EMUI 4.1.

Try pushing this to your device. Should restore just system. Let me know if it works for you. You'll need to unzip it after you download it.

Find an older ROM and try this method as your last... This one definitely works, but you need to do OTA from beginning.

Glad to help. Better keep a lateset ROM zip you can find at hand, you never know what time you will need it.

Yes. Just backup the boot partition before you flash a custom kernel in TWRP.

Hi, just tried to do this by flashing the old zip trough TWRP, but i always end to boot in recovery, maybe i'm doing something wrong...?
I tried this today and happened the same, i guess you have to clean flash to downgrade.
Also a tip, if you got stuck in recovery and yet cannot decrypt (doesn't ask for password/pin in TWRP), boot to fastboot mode, use the command "fastboot boot <the img file name for twrp>" so that you can boot directly to the img file from your PC. This way it will ask for your password.

You might try flashing again when you get booted back to TWRP. That way, you can get 9.01 flashed to both slots if it's not already. No guarantees, but it's worth a try.

Can you link me to the exact fastboot rom you flashed? Some said I have to use the downgrade zip from OnePlus to Oreo 5.1.1 then only upgrade to 9.0.1. The OP of the fastboot rom said the rom is not for downgrading.
Did you downgrade to Oreo first or directly flash the 9.0.1 fastboot rom?

I've wiped everything, then downgraded to Pie directly, but I was in a slightly different situation (only fastboot available).
Just to be sure flash the Oreo one and then upgrade to Pie.
With the whole A/B partition layout it should be easier to downgrade too right?
Has anyone successfully rooted their T-Mobile variant as of yet? My bootloader unlock token should be available in a couple hours, and I'm trying to decide which is the best method. I was thinking of going with patching the boot.img myself, however I can't find a full ROM zip of 9.5.5 (which I'm on now). The next choice is obviously TWRP...I'm just hesitant because of the encryption issue. Does anyone know if formatting data and then moving files back to my internal storage will allow me to decrypt, just as it did on the 6T? Thanks in advance

Mine should be here today. And I'll tell you my plan.
I'm going to try to flash twrp and try to get the stock img files from the unmodified slot. Then I will feel safe. To do anything
Well, I did it! I unlocked my bootloader and flashed TWRP! I then formatted data, and transferred the TWRP installer and Magisk to internal storage. I flashed both, and rebooted to recovery. Both files were still there, and did not get encrypted! Now, my wifi and sound seem to be broken, but I did see something about that somewhere else...now to find it, hah!

It did! About 10 minutes later than the time I applied for it Now, I rebooted to recovery again, and now I don't see my files anymore I guess formatting data DIDN'T fix decryption. Now to get my sound and wifi working again...
Figured I'd try formatting data a second time. It's worked for me on the 6T in the past
I think your going to need the boot.img to restore WiFi and sound.

Try flashing this patched 9.5.5 boot.img . The boot image has to match the same version your currently on. From your screen shots it looks like your on 9.5.5 so it might be your best bet in restoring your Sound and Wifi.

Flash stock like you did your ROMs. flash that DM varity at the end. Don't restore a stock backup if you didn't make it decrypted. Once you backup stock decrypted you can restore it anytime you want.
I've always started out on stock decrypted and then back that up. Then fish my ROMs you May have to reformat again so you can do it. I'm not to sure. If it's a different security patch you May have problems

Yes full zip. I would try it without a reformat first, just a factory reset in TWRP, and if it doesn't boot, then you know you will need to do the full format in TWRP. But I don't think you will. I hope not.
