So I just bought a 970U1 global unlocked SD/S10e. In my ignorance, I thought the bootlaoder would be unlockable because it isn't tied to any US carrier and it is marketed as a "global unlocked device".
I am wondering if it is possible to flash firmware for the 9700 to the 970U1?
Then the next question would be.
If no, why not? The hardware appears to be identical, all the way down to dual sim capability.
If yes, would it work with CDMA US carriers, specifically Verizon? As the 9700 does not appear to support CDMA.
If the 9700 does not support CDMA, would it be possible to flash the radio so it would?
thanks-

Same question over and over, no-one searches the 10+ times it's been answered already.
IF you want to use LTE on a Razr HD on AT&T, Rogers, Fido, or internationally, you have to get the XT925. The Verizon-specific XT926 is bootlocked, carrier-locked, and doesn't support LTE on any other carrier. That's why it's locked to Verizon. In order to support all the CDMA data bands, they apparently intentionally gimped the LTE support.
Bottom line, if you have Verizon, buy a xt926. Everyone else, get a xt925. And no, there is no Razr Maxx HD anywhere else than Verizon currently.
ALSO! The XT925 is the only model with an unlockable bootloader currently. If you have a XT926, you can run a hacky-workaround to run custom roms... However all the development I've seen thus far is either XT925 or XT926 focused, and there isn't unification between the two... yet.
Ha. It's not that it's SIM locked (it *is* if you try to use it on AT&T) -- it's that Rogers/Bell/TELUS have different LTE frequencies. The Verzion version only supports LTE 700 MHz Class 13, while the Canadian providers use LTE on 1700/2100/2600.
So, if the Verzion version of the phone supported those frequencies it would work the same. But it's *not* a case of being locked at the SIM level, except AT&T/T-Mobile.

I never said Sim locked. I said carrier locked. Does it work on all carriers? No. Therefore it is locked, don't you agree?
I am thinking of getting an unlocked S7. It seems to me G930W8 has the necessary LTE bands for Verizon and T-mobile, which are the carriers used in our family. Does anyone have any experience with either US carrier? Is there any issue? I am picking this model mainly because it's not bootloader locked like the Snapdragon models (US models), so in the future I can load any custom ROM.

Did you ever get this phone and find out if it works on Verizon? I have rooted my G935W8, but my friend's G930W8 is unlocked and unrooted. I am trying to find out if she can use it on Verizon. The Verizon reps where she is says it will not work. She has just moved there, and needs a working phone. She was using it on T-Mobile, but that doesn't give her any service in the part of Utah she is now in. If she were somewhere she knew people, I would have her ask someone if she could test their sim in her phone, but she doesn't know anyone there yet.
Question for those who know more than I do... If someone gets a sprint S8+ unlocked (A SPRINT DEVICE THAT HAS BEEN UNLOCKED NOT A FACTORY UNLOCKED DEVICE) to use on GSM (T-mobile, AT&T, etc) will it get all the GSM/LTE freqencies and bands for usa gsm services like T-mobile, AT&T, etc... Or are the SPRINT S8+ crippled on the GSM frequencies?

If you flash the U1 firmware that comes from the unlocked US phones, you should be good if the phone's already network/SIM unlocked-that firmware doesn't have the carrier bloat, but it detects the SIM card inserted and will adjust the network stuff accordingly so that it operates on the right bands, etc. If you'd prefer to have all the carrier apps/ bloat as well, there are several threads on carrier switching. Flashing the U1 firmware is fairly straightforward and easy, and most carrier features work; Switching from Sprint firmware to another carrier's firmware is a bit more involved but still totally doable. You're going to have to do one of the two though.
Edit: All of the US models have the exact same hardware, with all of the same radios...the unlocked model is the exact same as a variant from T-Mobile/Sprint/etc. It's just the CP & CSC firmware files that dictate the network stuff.

I wish to change my carrier from AT&T which is GSM based to one that is CDMA based, however the G955U has a GSM-locked bootloader by default. Considering that all Galaxy S8+'s have hardware CDMA support regardless of carrier, is it possible to flash a Verizon bootloader or anything of that sort to be able to use my phone on a CDMA carrier?
Thanks!
Looking at purchasing an S8+ second hand. How's the band support work across carrier versions? It's a smg955uzvv, which is a Vz model. Is it possible to flash the unlocked or T-Mobile firmware and if so will that activate all of the respective bands?

They are nearly world wide universal. If its network unlocked. You can flash the tmobile so you have their apps. Or flash the unbranded csc files to make it bloat free. The newer samsungs are awesome with compatibility
