I was in the car and my phone slipped out of my pocket and landed on the carpet.
Fingerprint reader stopped working.
Face unlock was still working.
Factory reset the device
Fingerprint reader still not working.
Face unlock still working.
Can anyone offer a suggestion or know what I can do.
bump
Send it back without mentionning the fall? Just say that the fingerprint readed stopped working.

I purchased my s7 the day it came it out and was initially able to set up the fingerprint scanner. Then took it off wanting faster access to my phone. Now i'm unable to put the fingerprint scanner back on. I've restarted the phone plenty of times and even did a factory reset. What should i do now?
Hello,
I've recently discovered that if you try and place a finger on the fingerprint sensor while the phone is in your pocket, the screen will successfully unlock, which I believe it's not normal behaviour. Every time I pull it out of my pocket the screen turns on and the phone unlocks, leaving it prone to accidental taps and inevitably open random apps every time.
Does anybody else have this issue?
I just tested it. Same here.
If I cover the sensors while the phone is just sitting there and then place my finger on the fingerprint reader - it registers it and unlocks the phone.
If the phone is unlocked and I cover the sensors - I get a message that the touch protection is active and it doesn't allow me to click on the screen.
Great "touch protection", Huawei. Good job on this one.

Yeah, it basically works only once the phone has already been unlocked, lol.
Nice addition to the stupid lock-screen notification issue we are having in the other thread. How awful.
At least I'm glad I'm not the only one, I'll try and open a chat when I have some spare time to waste...
My Huawei P20 fingerprint sensor doesn't seem to work when the phone is lying down like 8/10 times.
Not that it doesn't recognize my finger, it just doesn't respond to anything. I have to physically lift the phone, even a few millimeters, for it to work normally. It's pretty annoying and defeats the purpose of the front-facing fingerprint sensor.
I tried rebooting, resetting to factory settings, didn't work.
Anyone have an idea what causes this bug to happen?
I have a problem with the fingerprint scanner, when i register my fingerprints it takes alot of time to complete the register process. I get a lot of partial fingerprint detected errors or it is isn't recognized at all. I can complete the sequence, but it take a lot of tries. Whenever I try to unlock the phone, most of the time it wil unlock, but sometimes it won't detect my fingerprint. Sometimes I will get the error, that my fingerprint isn't recognized even when I am not touching the fingerprint scanner. Does anyone else has this same problem?

It really looks like a hardware problem with your fingerprint scanner... You should use your warranty to fix it or change it for a new one.
I already tested with a new fingerprint scanner and it still doesnt work. If i attach the fingerprint scanner and turn my phone on, it would start in a bootloop saying "Phone is starting". I had to remove the battery to turn off the phone, unattach the fingerprint scanner, turn on and it works just fine. Well, fine without a fingerprint scanner. So i was wondering if there is something wrong with my board. If any of you have a picture of the board, near the fingerprint scanner area, it would help too.
