So, strange question and I might be asking for the wrong thing.
On OOS with viper (tried all varieties) if I have viper on over BT headphones, and the volume is above 80%, anything remotely bassy clips like hell and I get quieter volume during that point. I never had this problem with any older phone that wasn't OnePlus. If I used a custom os like Lineage on my old OP5, the problem never appeared. I use the aptx hd Bluetooth codec, but turning that off makes no difference. If its the Bluetooth stack, maybe its possible to port the Lineage one to OOS? I'm not sure what exactly it is, but if anyone has an idea, I'm open to it.
I like OOS and would like to stay on it, mainly to maintain my safetynet and stability.
Edit: The effect I had on if either dynamic system, or viper bass, both at minimum settings. Worked in my old phones that were not oneplus
Have you tried the viper in xxnolimits? I had the same issue with other vipers on oos but using this one I have no issues with clipping. I don't really use dynamic system with my headphones because it doesn't really add bass, but just lowers the volume of everything except bass. This was the same on aosp as well, and I did just test with the included no limits viper and got no clipping.

In fact, I did, it was the best copy of viper I had seen. It only seems to be with oneplus phones on OOS. When I use aosp/lineage I don't get the problem. With xxx, the effect was a lot less clippy, but because I sometimes have my music up at 100%, like on my Bluetooth speakers (it's a big one), it's still noticeable. It's like the OOS audio stack, or Bluetooth drivers or something have something to do with it.
The only other thing i could think of would be to modify the audio mixer file to raise the volume, so that the current 100% volume is now around 80%.that might also solve it but I have no idea where to begin
The best thing I've found so far is to lower the output volume on viper to -3db to fix it, it's not perfect though

When stock, unroot and unmodded, bluetooth playback to my Logitech Mini boombox and Motorola S10-HD headphones was decent. I did notice a few pops and clicks every so often, but nothing like what it is now that I have rooted and flashed the latest ViperXL stable ROM, ElementX 5.2 kernel and the German 3.17 radio. I've seen a few scant reports of this same issue, but I'm guessing not many stream audio via bluetooth, hence why the issue doesn't get as many mentions as it should. I can confirm it is NOT a hardware issue as the streaming of audio via bluetooth was fine on the stock AT&T ROM. Base ViperXL emitted this issue before ever adding the ElementX 5.2 kernel or flashing the radio, so I'm thinkin' the issue may be with ViperXL.
The static/crackling/popping sound is unaffected by volume changes. Turning the volume all the way down allows for only the artifacting to be heard and turning the volume up doesn't increase this sound, but at least puts the music on part with it so that you can at least drown it out with other ambient noise. It's horrible and only stops when you stop playing the audio. It sounds like clipping that occurs when an equalizer is set too high for the DSP or output device. Is there something written in these ROMs to alter the stock levels? I'm not talking the EQ options such as BEATS, Dolby or Sony Xloud 'cause toggling those on or off have absolutely NO effect on this issue.
I did come across a few posts in the ViperXL thread claiming to disable some chinese variant of the Dolby sound enhancer, but that functionality seems to be gone with newer versions of the ROM, such that I am now on. Disabling ALL sound enhancers does not resolve the issue. I know there's others out there havin' this problem. What would it be in third-party, sense-based ROMs that would cause this issue to exacerbate? Please post your experiences and possible resolutions.
Flashed 2.20 RUU and the issue went away. All signs pointing to the ViperXL ROM...
UPDATE: Issue didn't NOT resolve, but lessened under stock ROM. I've isolated the crackling to fluctuations in CPU clock. When locking the speeds to one clock rate, the crackling goes away. As soon as I allow the governor to adjust speeds, the crackling recurs. I'd really like a dev to chime in here and advise how this could be resolved. I'm going to flash back to ViperXL to see if these same variables have any effect.
Hi,
this is my first thread and I already searched everywhere to get my problem solved. Unfortunately without successso far...
Whatever soundmod I am using, the sound does not change at all on my HTC One XL (evita) with AOKP milestone 2.
First, I tried Viper4Android, installed everything, chose V4A in the sound settings, enabled V4A, chose different IRS files, but whatever I do,
the sound does not change at all, no matter how I change the program's settings. I followed all the installation instructions carefully,
so the program should work fine.
After removing V4A, I tried Noozxoide, installed it, chose it in the settings and enabled it. But there is also no effect on the sound quality at all,
no matter how I adjust the settings in the app.
Lastly, I downloaded some other DSP/equalizer programs like Music Equalizer, but there is no change in the sound when I adjust effects and
settings (enabling, disabling the program does not change anything, all equalizer pre-sets sound identical, extra bass has no effect etc.).
As I use my phone for listening music every day, the sound quality is quite important for me and compared to the Sense with Beats Audio it is
really much much worse.
The sound quality is the only downside compared to the stock rom for me, otherwise I am very happy with AOKP and the rom works very fine.
Does anyone know where the problem might be?
Are there any soundfilters in AOKP that prevent sound mods to work properly?
Any other HTC/AOKP users that have/had similar problems?
Thanks a lot in advance..!
The me301t came with an audio profiler. Just about any pick, music, vocal, etc made the volume literally double. Which was 100% required as the stock volume was a joke. The DSP in most ROMs isnt quite the best alternative. Anyone have any better options? I see fixes for headphones and such but not the main speakers.. Or I'm just missing it? Ideas weelcome , thanks
A quick jump into OmniROM and I had to go back. The audio was that low. I too am looking for a fix or an alternative but so far I'm reading Viper4Android would work. I've found that its not as effective as the Audio Wizard of the stock based ROMs.

Well i didn't have high hopes for viper as it looked just like the DSP effects baked into Omni, but low and behold, Viper works pretty well. Volume boost does function and i can actually USE my tablet again! w00t!
So good call there, and thanks for the heads up on it.
Now you are correct in that it isnt as good or easy to use as the audio wizard. it also seems to have some odd effects, suchas when the volume is boosted the OS sounds, like notification and the screen press feedback sounds are Super loud, but youtube and other apps are just right. The quick semi-fix for me (since i don't get many notifications on the tablet) would be to just deal with notifications and shut off the screen tap / typing sounds.

it works except for the sony sound settings,
also if it works on any other rom please post the status

I hope working with CM13
What do you mean that is working but not the sony settings? So just the viper audio settings? Cause viper4android was already working

yeah but dolby and v4a works right, im gonna try for cynapop will update post then
Everyone know Dolby and v4a working in CM13.
Flashed this mod with DD+ and it made everything sound garbled without even turning the mods on. All apps seem to work, including Sony player but results are horrible, something is broken there.
Oxygen OS 2.2.0 with Boeffla kernel
Edit: even bigger disappointment is finding out that V4A does not work on OOS. Damn!

I have tried this one three different custom CM13's so far and the Divine Equalizer has worked on none of them. I can get V4A working, but only if I install it using the "LoliViper" ZIP. Is there a fix OP or am I just screwed?
@Rub It is maybe you need to change selinux to permissive instead of enforcing?

Just tried it on CyanOxy and yes, short answer would be that it works but results aren't so impressive. Distortions creep in, while bass was lacking before this now is overblown and I can't find a way to tone it down effectively. V4A is hidden somewhere in there but installing regular app doesn't seem to work for adjusting, parallel to that there is so much sound processing that it is insane. Divine eq doesn't respond, two music players also fall apart when skipping songs. Not good. Maybe on some other phone or ROM... so for now, nandroid back and use just clean V4A. Although even that worked better on CM13
New v7.00 seems to work, and also has new approach - base zip with addons and/or apps separately :good:
Nope. Bluetooth is gone after flashing. Sound seems to be better than before flashing it, but with V4A turned off. Turning it on just ruins everything, so there is again too much processing out of users control.
Dolby Atmos is only other visible app and it just has to be turned off or crackling and distortions go over everything
Also volume control is broken, full volume is about on half of the scale, with horrible distortions, then it tones down and going louder again, only with more horrible distortions. Ugh.

Any way (.zip) to uninstall the Viper ?
Its pain in $$a to restore the ROM from TWRP
Viper is no problem but all other libs and changes are impossible to remove. Always backup before flashing this kind of stuff, then restore takes only a minute

I'm running H2OS 6.0.1 (V1.4.0) Firmware Version ONE A2005_24_160513 and it's working for me.
All I did was set SELinuxMod to Permissive using the SELinuxModeChanger app and used the Dolby Atmos Remover zip to remove DA mod. Working great with my headphones but haven't tried bluetooth audio yet, which is when I use my phone for music most...
Backup data first!
worst thing to flash. broke both my speaker and headphones. worst sound mod ever madhe.
Yup.
Problem with bad audio was on first OOS3 beta and later it was fixed, and with Dirac HD (whatever that is, sound is ok) on final OOS or V4A (which still plays funny with bluetooth, needs user fixing) - I don't see the point of these mods. They just create more problems, and do sound processing without any user control and cannot be turned off. That is just nasty.
Anyway, it is impossible to make it sound better with some software mods, it is just an illusion. We need better hardware, better DAC, better amplifier to really get better sound. Using OTG, or maybe just in-line headphone amp from FiiO or something similar. Short of that, V4A is more than enough for some tweaks.
I'm posting this based on my testing on various sources that the ZF6 sounds with my 3.5mm earphones sound different than my laptop, desktop, and galaxy S7. Desktop, laptop and my S7 sound identical.
Any rock song seem to be overly muffled on the ZF6 on my 3.5mm earphones and I can't seem to fix it. I have tried testing with various settings in AudioWizard and also tried disablling it to no avail.
Not sure if it was like this in Android 9 and also in Android 10.
Anyone else notice this?
I don't have any problem with audio. Have you tried another media player? I use Poweramp.

Tried different media player, youtube, twitch. Everything sounds off on the ZF6 compared to my mentioned examples.
Can you elaborate more about what exactly makes it sound off? Weird frequency response, some kind of sound effect, distortions/cracks? I will try to compare my phone once more.

Sorry, English is not my first language.
As far as as describing the problem, there's no inherent "problem" with the sound per se, but most songs I listen to on a daily basis sounds very different and off in a really bad way. I've disabled AudioWizard, and also tweaked with the equalizer, bass, treble in AudioWizard and nothing.
I've kept my best in keeping everything same for testing. Like, listening to the same song, using the same earphones, and pretty much tried my best in keeping things in stock settings and same across my laptop, desktop, s7 and zf6 as best as I could.
I think there's some funky equalizer setting that is muffling certain "tones" in music and I can't access it or something. I have no idea.
Not rooted/locked bootloader if that makes any difference. No funky app or add-on that could possibly affect this.
Edit: try listening to this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3x8geNo31yg
the first 30 seconds sounds so obviously different to me. If this is not the case for you then something is wrong with my zf6 whether by some setting or defective
I can't hear any significant difference between my Zenfone 6 and a Acer Laptop without EQs. The music is quite old and not a high quality one but other than that everything plays fine.
Hi,
I do not own a Zenfone 6 but did own a Zenfone 5 last year and listened to a lot of music. I was coming from an HTC 10(the brand I went back to).
I did experience issues with the sound quality on the Zenfone 5 both on the external speaker and through headphones. The problem being an eq setting (which I had no power over) that lowers automatically the volume when low frequencies (any kind of percussions or beats) played fom either a music player or streaming app. The result was a "wavy" sound where volume fluctuated in a noticeable way, plunging down when low frequencies kicked in (I guess it's a way to stay under a certain maximum dB level?). The rest of the frequencies sounded muffled and blended together. Basically there wasn't a good sound separation even through the headphone jack.
No setting on AudioWizard could solve the issue and it was widely reported on the ZenTalk forums.
I remember a software update which claimed to solve the problem but simply ended rising the max volume through the jack, mantaining the sound distortion as it was. I found no solution whatsoever and switched brand.
I don't know if this problem changed on the 6 but what you describe sounds to me almost exactly what I experienced on the Zenfone 5.
It sounds like there was an output limiter of some kind which was altering the sound to avoid speaker distortion. I didn't notice this on my Zenfone 6. I've never had an Asus before though.
I had several problems with the audio from the 3.5 jack after updating to andoid 10, especially with the fm radio. I had to downgrade to android 9 to fix it.
