Wondering whether I am the only one with this issue
I SMS a lot and like keeping the SMS on my device. I had recently an extremely unpleasant surprise: my total list of conversations was back to... ONE conversation with my last SMS and... That's it!!! Thousands of SMS gone
I happen to save everything with mIQ and hopefully it's not lost. However I had the experience already twice in the past 2 weeks so I am wondering:
Is this a feature from Android? Big SMS file --> autoarchive? If then how do I disable it or how do I recover my SMS?
Is it a bug? In which case this is extremely severe and not serious for such an expensive device or for an OS that is expected to be a safe one
Is it from Samsung implementation? Or Android itself?
Please share your experience, I'd like to know if I am the only one and if there is any solution (My "old" Touch Pro 2 with WM 6.5 never lost a single SMS although having more than 30,000 SMS in the box)

Am I the only one? Several years without any loss os SMS on different WM devices and I wiuld be the only one losing them on my shiny new device with the wonderful android OS?

Ive never let my SMS get to more than 500, mainly because I don't like scrolling through congressional. Never had this issue though.

you really shouldnt keep that many sms around anyhow with android, its likely to cause some issues but did you check the settings on the sms app? mine has settings to delete threads after a certain number and is set to 200 by default.
I use a program called Backup to Gmail. Works excellent.
It let's me delete sms'es on the phone while my Gmail account keeps them all even if I delete them on the phone.
It can also restore sms'es.MMS restore is not supported yet but backup works good.

Yes of course... Besides If I had it set at 200 I would expect to keep at leats 200, not 1
I shouldn't let many with Android ? So with WM6.5 it's ok to have 20,000 SMS but Android cannot handle them ? Hum... Somethng is seriously wrong

Thanks, I know a few of these. Without being able to restore --> kind of useless for me... Actually as far as I remember some CAN restore
I am already using mIQ that works ok (though a bit slow to handle too many SMS)
why would you even want that many, its not like you are going to read through 20k sms
It's funny like the answers are more about having less SMS or why wanting that many rather than why the SMS client or the OS Re broken...
Hey man why do u need a car, just take your bicycle!
I have more than a thousand conta ts I converse regularly with. Then add a certain number of sms per conversation and u get there
Anyway I do not even have that many on my Tab... Far less than on my previous device. And this disappointing device/os/client combination cannot even manage them... What do you expe t me to do or say? Go back to my TP2? Honestly this is ridiculous
meanwhile I'd like to know if I am the only one and if someone knows some fises (other than delet my SMS or but an iPad...)

give handcent a try and use their backup service, ive never had a problem with the stock sms app, currently theres around 300txts for 20 contacts, and 50 or so for the rest.
No problem here as I don't keep a lots of sms. But had a problem with new sms going into the wrong contact profile. So, have to be extra careful not to reply to the wrong person.
Anyone faces the same problem?

Deleting would help more than the purchase of an iPad, as that uses the 3g chip to get a data connection, while both the texting and voice service are ignored.
That said... I never got this issue, but my brother has a relatively similar one: long messages tend to be split, mixed and (why not, since we are at it) partly deleted. That is on Eclair using an Xperia X10 mini pro.
Never had this kind of issue when i was at my peak of sms usage: store on the MMC, and there you go, thousands of sms on a puny Nokia 3650.

Does anyone know if its possible for us android users to respond "to all" when iphone users send us a group text? Or even see who's involved in the group text? I've searched and searched and don't think there is a way so I figured Id ask here in case someone knew of a way.

Whatsapp.. That should work. Dunno. Don't use official texting. Whatsapp should work though.
And tell them to get Android. Make fun of them. Show the beautiful widgets. Then tell them to show you a beautiful weather animation on their homescreen. In they pull down the Android rip off pull down tell them it's weak, full screen. It should be easy, you know. On your little dinky screen.

Trust me. I've done literally everything you just listed. I've been an Apple user since the first gen Iphone up until the Iphone 4. Whatapp does work but the Apple user has to download it as well. I'm trying to see if I can connect with their native group text. I guess that's impossible at this point since we cant cross platforms yet. Similar to BBM on blackberries. If there is anyone with any ideas, please share.
Currently we are using Voxer which is pretty neat. However, the iphone user still needs to download it.

I'm looking for the same solution. Does anyone know of an app that allows android phones to see iphone group chats as group chats rather than breaking everything down into individual text messages that way we can do a reply all rather than having to send the same message to everyone that is in the group? Thanks.
There's plenty of apps that do this. 8sms is my favorite.

Thanks for your help. I've installed the app and it looks nice. I still need to test it out to make sure it works with group text messages with iphones. But I'll update this post once I'm able to confirm that it does or does not work. Thanks

Android 4.2 messaging app does it natively now. And there's also the new Hangouts which allows for group messaging.
Android 2.3.6- 4.0.4 I've used NinjaSMS and can can confirm it works with group messaging. Again, there's also the new Hangouts app.

I'm currently trying NinjaSMS. Hangouts didn't work for my phone. I couldn't send or receive MMS which appears to be a known problem with a few phones. In addition, the 8sms app which was suggest to me also didn't work. It broke up their iphone group text to an indiviual text from each person. Therefore I still had to reply individually to everyone in the group. I'll let you know if NinjaSMS works for me.

Hi charliebrown
I have the same problem. Trying to change from my iphone to a good cell phone I'm changing to my new love "HTC ONE S". I'm surfing the web since two days but without finding any solution.
It should be possible somehow cause I found a nice migrate software for the sms. I could copy more than 5'000 SMS within minutes. Pretty amazing. If this could be helpful for you - check out http://faked.org/isms2droid/
Cheers

Download iPhone WhatsApp to Android Transfer to help. It lets you migrate and merge whatsapp chat history with attachments from iPhone to Android directly on computer. Easy to use. Hope it can help.
WhatsappMigrator not opening/working
I'm not able to open this WhatsappMigrator website.
Update: As suggested by NuttyBunny in a reply below, I even tried to open it in Chrome browser on my Windows laptop but this site isn't opening. I found another program (http://www.easyphonerecovery.com/transfer-whatsapp-chat-history-messages-iphone-to-android.html) that can transfer WhatsApp chat from iPhone to Android. Someone recommended it on Android stackexchange site. This program is working flawlessly. :good: You can use it to migrate chat history from iPhone to Android.

Getting a new phone is always an exciting time. Then the realization sets in that you have to figure out how to get information from your old phone to the new one.
For the most part, a lot of the stuff we rely on is synced through various cloud services such as Google or Apple's iCloud and the transfer process is as simple as signing in on your new device.
But what about the stuff you don't sync, like SMS conversations? Or what if you're switching from iPhone to the new Galaxy S7? Enter Samsung's Smart Switch app.
Smart Switch is built into Samsung's Galaxy devices, and you'll also find a USB adapter included in the box with your phone. Don't lose it! That seemingly useless piece of plastic is the magical part of Smart Switch.
Transfer WhatsApp (with attachments) from iPhone (6S) to Android Y9 (2018)/Honor 8X/8C
Hello Developers! I have spoken to quite a few IT professionals and googled but have not found a solution for this issue. I have even purchased dr.fone Wondershare (Restore Social App) but that too gets stuck at 99%. My WhatsApp data is about 17GB and I would really like to transfer my WhatsApp from iPhone on to a new Android phone. Please help!
Zikk is unique mobile to mobile remote support app.
So what's so special about Zikk?
It is designed for consumers and not for IT depatments and operators,
therefore it is extremely simple and user friendly.
It provides full privacy protection - no screen sharing, and no access to SMS, email, etc.
It doesn't require constant internet access, and doesn't prevent the recipient from using his
phone for other purposes during the process.
It supports all Android devices (2.2 and above).
In addition to remote support, Zikk contains a local settings menu which uses Zikk's simple
and friendly interface.
When people have a hard time setting up their smartphones, they ask help from their friends
and family - Zikk enables users to help each other.
APK attached. Also available on Google-Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zikk.alpha)
where you will also find a short and helpful demo video. You van also find the video on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsP9-Lpfwpk).
So both people need Zikk installed, I presume? Does the person you are helping get prompted to download it?

Correct. If the selected contact does not have the app, the user will be asked to allow sending
an automatic SMS with a link to the download page. There is also a share option where you can
send this message (via SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook, etc.) to one or more people.

This really does sound great; however, does it support wifi-only tablets? Is the phone number just to receive verification code? If so, will any mobile phone number work?

The current version is designed for Android phones does not support WiFi-only tablets or
large screen tablets, however in a few weeks I will publish the tablet version, which will
include UI adjustments, tablet related features and a different registration process.
Sounds AMAZING! I'd really like to use this to help my friends and family. I live in India though
No worries, I'll wait
fantastic idea!!! this will surely take off!! kudos to the OP!!
how far this app will go ? I mean can I help someone from anywhere ?
What about phone types? What if my phone is a Nexus and the other device is a HTC?

Great ideas for the next version - thank you very much!
I like the app a lot, but what make it one of the best is if I could move, install, & uninstall system apps, and a root file manager so that we can help rooted users also
uninstalled this app from my Galaxy Note i717 and now the home screen is gone and I cant get back into recovery?

Actually a version for rooted users is an interesting idea. Not sure how common "less tech savvy"
rooted users are though. If you have more ideas for features for rooted users I would love to hear them.
I actually have a friend who is just getting into root use who calls for advice when he needs it. Let's be honest we were all beginners once and maybe could have used a little hand. He moved recently so there is distance involved now. This looks like a great idea.
I would love to have access to the settings menus, root file explorer and perhaps apps he already has installed such as set CPU or apps of that nature.
Beginners in root use are just as confused by root abilities as beginners in android are of it's stock features at times.
It would be really great to be able to start a log cat app and have your friend do something that normally causes a crash for example if they are not advanced enough to run one themselves. A current issue I have on hand. Trying to explain how to run one and sending videos to watch.
Hope this keeps going

Im having a doubt that my smartphone is being keylogged by this thing called mobilespy android keylogger. Everyone is watching everything I do with my smartphone including the photos I take and save, facebook and whatsapp messages( both incoming and outgoing) and even the music I hear. My friends are responding to whatever I do by uploading photos in fb, whatsapp and through status updates in both. I dont want to get rid of this keylogging. I just want to get the details of this keylogging like whoever it is senting to and any proof to show them. Because I want to catch them red-handed. Please help!!
I posted about this issue in xda several months ago, but this thing called mobilespy never came to my mind. Thats why Im asking. Also, I want to know this thing works in safe mode too? Please help!
Help me!
It is hard to tell since some mobile spy app like mobile spy, spyfone app and iKeyMonitor are totally invisible. But you can restore your phone to get rid of such apps if you suspect it.

Here is my professional advice based on several facts:
You joined XDA in October 2014; posted four messages about being spied on and keylogged on Android; have had and continue to have numerous issues being hacked/taken over; you use firewall and other android apps to no avail; all other non android equipment works fine for you. So, Android is "definitely" the culprit.
Here is the advice: ask for a raise from Mr. Cook or better have him make you the chief of Apple's propaganda department...
