where is groot?
ahem.
so in advance, I'd like to say that there is no root yet before people start asking.
still won't stop them but hey, I tried.
apparently the exynos variant was rooted. which confirms the below statement.(was to be expected. nothing new here) read all about here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10+/how-to/guide-how-to-root-note-10-t3960031
Also if there is root, then it's going to be for international models such as(model numbers are not confirmed yet)root confirmed and models aswell:
n970 n971 n975 n976 f/ds/b -exynos
n970 n971 n975 n976 n -exynos
n9700 n9710 n9750 n9760 /ds -snapdragon (international)
*North American snapdragon models will not have root before a very long time...if ever: (regardless of carriers, its all the same hardware/limitations)(*unless they decide to source some of devices from the internation family of SD devices like Sprint had from the s10 5g or even Exynos devices like it is rumored.)
n970 n971 n975 n976 u -snapdragon
n970 n971 n975 n976 u1 -snapdragon
n970 n971 n975 n976 w -snapdragon
North American Snapdragon devices might never have a functional stock root exploit at all. (thus being described as the wrong phone for your rooting needs)
so again please dont ask about rooting( looking at you north Americans .... )
so do yourselves and the rest of the xda community a favor and DONT BUY THE WRONG PHONE. Do your homework in advance and get the appropriate model.
one might ask: "what's the wrong phone?"
the answer would be: its the one that isint going to be rootable for a very long time...(if ever).
so if you buy the wrong phone and wonder why no root then i dont know what to say anymore...apart from "you bought the wrong phone!"
for years and years now North American snapdragon devices have locked bootloaders that render them crippled when it comes to rooting.... that's if they ever get root. So this is ongoing and just because the note 10 is a new device, this dosen't change the fact that NA SD's bootloader are locked and are NOT unlockable.
Please also for the love of god read up about a device that is carrier unlocked. this means what it means. its not tied to be used on a single carrier. In now way or sense does this mean the bootloader is unlockable.
now for the pipe dreams:
down the line( can be months and months or even a year or never), NA snapdragon devices just might have an exploit workout for a bit. What this susualy means is that they either have a partial root or a full working root. Usually when a full root method is made available, you have to stay on a specific bootloader revision and never update the device again...or till the exploit is updated to match new firmware revision. this is often a cat and mouse situation and new security patches are likely to patch rhe exploit.so yeah.. talk about crippling a device.
so i wouldn't keep my hopes up if you plan in going all in on a N. american device and pray the android gods for root as it might never happen!( look at the note 9, there is a proof of concept/WIP but never has the stock note 9 firmware been rooted On NA devices yet ( we are about 1 month shy of a full year with absolutely 0 root) )
so again please dont come asking how to root your north american device when you start seeing the international version threads popping up about root guides, recoveries and roms.
Lol...i like it. Preemptive strike.
But yes the ignorant will ask anyway just like every single time a new device launches but now we can refer them to this thread :good:

What's dissapointing is that ignorance dosent choose the individual nor the time of said affliction.
It's a man made convergance towards slouch and spoon feeding. but it IS a choice. A subconscious one or not, that we may not know but a reason to not dare venture and search for the truth is a guilt I do not share but sure hope more and more feel. Sometimes, new comers might find our words and ways harsh but harsh it what it is when asking other people to do the work for you.
annnnnnyways that said, we can expect the same questions for years to come.

please inform yourself on the devices that North American carriers resell. then your question will answer it self.
( simple retorical question can also lead to an answer....ie:
is my carrier a north American carrier?
once you have the answer go re read OP)

the problem is this isint a joke. people will actualy come and ask this very question.
they are the very same who complain why the forums arent split into carrier sections instead of SoC.
Always love the "I couldn't be bothered to actually search or try to read the thread/OP/or even a few pages back so can you answer my question" responses. Some of the people on here have come up with marvelous (and entertaining) responses to them.

Not to mention, the Note 10 seems to be coming on a whole different SoC altogether. So the methods are still going to be different regardless I imagine. If we could just repurpose some of that BA malware always going around into a new superuser app with better intentions, maybe we could do something.
Well at least I know to return it now. That was simple enough.
What sucks is North America has an unlocked version of the phone. I have that version, and it still can't be rooted. I think locked bootloader should be only on US carrier models since those are the companies wanting to lock it to prevent dummies from bricking their ****. Mine however is the unlocked n975u1.
I'm waiting to see tho. There's a website giving instructions to root the US model via flashing rooted fw in Odin. So I await to see how many people brick their phones.

u and u1 are identical devices.
dont mix carrier unlocked and bootloader unlockable. the wording is similar but that's where the similarities stop.
please reread OP if you need clarification on any of this.

hi i know this is kinda irrelevant but did the law passed last year really prevent ppl from making unlocking software like redsn0w, yellowsn0w, pwnage for the iphone 5s?
i dont see any available and the last update was like 3 years ago. is the iphone no longer unlockable except for the paid online services for 100-200 dollars?
thanks!

1) Software unlocked stopped working after the first couple of basebands on the iPhone 4. The baseband is basically too tightly locked for those types of hacks.
2) AFAIK it is not illegal to unlock a device.
3) This site is for Android an Windows Phone, not iOS. We don't do iOS here at all. You might check out another iPhone site for more info.
i know its android forum, i hate everything aapl so i dont wanna register there.
i think its a law:

but i didnt think that would stop anyone. i guess ur reasoning for complicated basebands makes sense.
there is just so many imei unlocks for a lot of money and if its cheap who knows if it would work..

According to that article, the law would go into effect in 9 days from today, and it's not illegal to go thru the carriers.
Software unlocks are not going to happen, other than using a SIM interposer, like R-Sim etc..
I don't know if using a SIM interposer would be illegal though, since technically you are not unlocking the phone or modifying the hardware in any way, you are only changing the way the signal goes from the SIM card to the phone, so technically you might be safe.
Practically, I don't see anyone actually getting prosecuted for "unlocking their iPhone" anyways.
But the only way right now is the a SIM interposer (check compatibility of the model and iOS version) or go thru carrier, or pay a premium price for 3rd party.
But yeah, since this forum does not cover or support iOS you're better off finding a forum that actually supports it.
yeah i understand, just fyi that article write jan 26 2013 not 14.

According to the firewater twitter account (the same one that showed off the vzw s5 bootloader unlock) there is a vulnerability in the TrustZone kernel/snapdragon 805 devices. While the s5 doesn't have an 805 it does appear to have TrustZone, which, according to beaups, once again the same person who showed off the bl unlock, there is probably a way to unlock the bl on the s5. Apparently it's similar to how the droid turbo was unlocked, and it lists other devices that use the 805 that could benefit. Although the s5 isn't listed, I'm assuming this is similar (if not the same) method he used to unlock the s5 previously. The only problem is he left off before the exploit can be completed, so people will have to work off of his research. Anyone who can understand what this means and perhaps develop something, take a look here at some documentation he released on the subject.
I looked at the PDF and I wouldn't bank on it. If the exploit is in our device I would be surprised.

I work closely with beaups, we are the authors of SunShine, the app that unlocks the droid turbo. I find it VERY hard to believe beaups told you there is a route to unlock the s5 through the Trustzone, I call bullpoop on that.
This vulnerability will never lead to an unlock on the S5, nor are we actively looking into it.

just out of curiosity what would happen if you flashed another boot loader or whatever it was that unlocked the boot loader on other phones? would it hard brick our phone? or is this something you go into your phone manually to do?

There could be a few things. Fear of a lawsuit, they may want to test it further, they may want to see if it can be used on other devices, they may want to see if anyone else can figure it out, etc. Sure they could sell unlocks on a per device basis but if big red wants to sue them, no amount of money made from selling the bootloader unlocks will pay for a court case or what verizon would want in "damages" even though we should be allowed to unlock the devices we paid for, which in turn would be a good argument for their defense in court which they might win with.
Who knows?

I'd love to be able to get a custom rom on my new phone, but without a bl unlock, I can't! My old Moto G, I went so as far as paying for your wonderful SunShine tool. I'm asking you, as a fellow nerd, to give us the keys to the kingdom. If you want someone to test the unlock, I'm ready and willing. I'm not afraid of Odin. If you want to keep it private, I respect that. Just release it to those who want it, maybe in a PM.

Hello, First post, my apologies in advance if this is the wrong place but i have spent some time researching this question but i want to be sure before i brick a $850 phone...i have rooted a few Samsung phones but i think a lot of it was luck and part of it was being able to read instructions (from here, i might add)...i have read enough to believe i can safely root a G955USQU1ACQ9 android 7.0 Kernel 4.4.16-10895874 build NRD90M.G955USQU1AQC9 Knox 2.8
the reason i hesitate to do it myself is the above mentioned cost of this phone and, i saw a "one click root" type thing and used the function that allowed to see if the program can unlock my phone and it says it is not available yet.. i imagine they simply have not updated the program to include my phone but the phone itself is able to be rooted using the methods i see here at XDA for the G955U in general.
so my question is, is this particular phone root-able following the instructions found elsewhere on this site? thank you in advance

From my own personal experience root is blocked in the USA for 2 main reasons.
1.) Corporate contracts - most companies will not allow root access on company phone. In order to steal contracts away from Apple corporations asked to have the phones be locked down tighter. This why even Tmobile locks their bootloaders now. A big part of this is government contracts as well. The USA government is extremely strick on which phone hardware anyone who contracts for them can use.
2.) Samsung Pay - (or tap and pay in general) It will never be allowed to work on a rooted of bootloader unlocked device. And in the USA they are pushing it hard because it is more secure than a physical credit card. Credit card companies lose Billions each year to stolen/lost cards and fraudulent charges. If they force everyone over to a tap and pay solution on your phone they will limit much of that liability.
Honestly I don't think it's a bad thing. The key really is that Google (Android) and OEMs (Samsung) need to continue to roll out the features users want. There should be no need for root anymore. The phone should have all of the features built in, or non root solutions should be found.
To be honest the only thing I miss from root is Viper4Android and even that there are comparable features built in now. I do think Support for older devices should be required as well, but I think Android is addressing that in 8.0 by segmenting out the system from the OEM over lays and drivers, basically allowing Google to push system updates straight to devices.

Cracks me up that people from the USA call out corruption and fixed election from countries all around the world, but somehow fail to see the same corruption and fixed election in their own country. So naive.
Relax dude less than %20 of the population of the country voted in the election. What that should tell you is %80 of the people are smart enough to know the election are rigged and %20 of people are still believing in a pipe dream.

I guess developing a pretty UI is important
I have confirmed that the POCO F1 is 100% hardware locked in its LTE bands. There is no band unlock for 2,4,12 etc. US users are screwed. How they will release this in mexico is beyond me. Attached is an image file displaying that the bands are configured directly into the phone, not just a part of LTE_BC_CONFIG. I'm not gonna scroll down the list but theres information about band powwer delivery, latency, etc. everything that would be required to program and run the hardware, its all there. The bands are not locked by software. ****ing bull****. The modem is the SM845 modem but xiaomi has taken the liberty to indeed limit the radio hardware for sending and receiving more lte bands. So they can sell it to the US for 500 instead of 300. Great
I've been at this for days, I've tried everything, its not gonna work. You may get LTE on band 5 in the US but then again, you may not. Band 4 LTE is 3g anyway, i mean **** it who are we kidding. If this dosen't bother you awesome but I pay for unlimited LTE every month and frankly I'm pissed off. Sorry to crush your dreams fellow americans, but this time we got screwed hardcore. Screw this forum and this community for not doing anything to investigate this earlier, I thought this was a place to share info like this but oh well
Cry me a river!
It's the sourmilkman more like, so your blaming everyone in the "community" for not figuring this out before you wasted your time on it?
What is it with the yanks lately ? Ive noticed it on lots of other non phone related forums as well. I was even blamed for the war of independence on one of them ffs ??? Make America smart again not bloody dumber!!!
hahahahaaha
Why are you so mad abt it.... It isn't released in the US... it wasn't made to be used in the US... They didn't want you to use it in the US... so why would be mad if it doesn't work as intended ....it's like if someone ordred a VERIZON OR AT&T and he's living in the EU OR ASIA and started crying why it won't work... You just went full retarded... Wtf is wrong with you people !??

1. Thanks for your efforts
2. We cannot do anything about Xiaomi locking bands via hardware
3. How on earth, do you expect xda/members to know if bands are locked via hardware. Poco is not officially sold in US, so there is no need for them to have US LTE bands support
4. We have been sharing info, and already have a thread about it here.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/help/poco-f1-lte-bands-unlock-t3835467
5. No need to start flaming the whole community
@MishaalRahman can you please check with @jaimani or poco peeps who interact with xda if the bands (2 and 4) are locked via hardware on Poco F1 so we don't spend much effort on trying to unlock those bands?
Clearly the Poco F1 is popular in States, but lack of bands is killing that popularity.
If it's locked then don't be sour about it. As mentioned earlier, it's not intended for the US. Thanks for your efforts BTW.
RT's appreciated. Let's see if we can get an answer on Twitter.

All of you complaining about my negativity and "failure to see that this is not intended for a US release"
Your lack of ambition bores me
Its intended for a South American release, including Columbia and Mexico. Both of these countries share LTE bands with the US. I don't care if its "not intended" I'm going to take what is available to me and use it. Do you think I failed to realize that its "not intended" when I broke down the modem.img and read countless lines of UTF-8 coding (half of which i admit just ended up getting scrolled through cause its nonsense) trying to get more than "bands 40,41 disabled" and "activate based on selected region" etc. etc. etc. Or maybe when I tried rewriting in QXDM to no avail because guess what it can't be done its hardware locked. They shouldve just saved me the trouble and said "GLOBAL VERSION HARDWARE LOCKED BY LACK OF RADIO ANTENNAE" rather than provoking me to play go fish with the damn firmware. I'm not the only one who wondered if it could be done, this is a common question just look around. The fact that I am the only one trying, only to conclude with certainty that it cant be done, thats what im *****ing about. I just figured that others, who wanted to be part of this release like myself, who search the damn forums including this one only to come up empty handed, could use the cold simple answer instead of 10000 posts "Yea, would be really cool if that could work" and "oh yea, band 2,4 frequencychecker" etc etc etc. If you cant see the reasoning in that, then we're done here as far as arguing my ****ty attitude. Just enjoy my test results and feel free to use them for whatever testing/investigation you* may be interested in, thats why i posted it and i can/will provide all relevant information requested with regards to any testing i performed to arrive to this conclusion, cause theres more
Snapdragon 845 for 350 dollars, "not intended" does not apply anymore, ESPECIALLY when mine scored north of 2400 single core on geekbench without a custom kernel. I died a little inside when I saw that I couldnt keep it

SNAPDRAGON 845 for 350$ isn't intended doesn't apply anymore...? Sorry to burst your bubbles but IT APPLIES MAN
And nobody forced or provoked u to go through all the firmware,u did that all for urself and willing, im not trying to diminish ur findings but u can't go and cry why the bands aren't available there...
I didn't see u crying when most sony devices released on the US lacked fingerprint unlock method even though the fingerprint sensor is present in the hardware but just blocked in the software and i can list a lot of examples but this would suffice
Bottom line is this... The OEM has the right to do whatever and put whatever and block whatever the F*** they want in their devices as you have the right to buy them or not. .. Nobody force you to buy the phone u wanna the desired bands buy a phone intended for the US.... Stop crying like a baby and grow up, you are embarrassing urself

Hi mates,
I've unlocked the bootloader to root with magisk, but since this phone as lots of problems I would like to sell it, but how I can sell it with that stupid warning message about the bootloader unlocked.
I flashed the stock firmware but I saw that is it impossible to Re-Lock the bootloader or better I didn't find a way. (unlocking is so easy damn)
Is there anyone with a possible solution?
Just to be clear my Knox has been tripped 0x1 and I guess this will complicate the overall things.
thinking:
Just wondering why doing things so complex, it is just the root permission . i'm administrator of my laptop and nobody is worry about it even if I'm using bank application on it...So don't say it is for security reasons this is to frustrate people avoiding them to do their own business with a device they paid...
No words!!
thanks
Once your Knox has been tripped, you can't revert it.
The 0x1 you are reading is a hardware fuse that is physically blown. you can' "unblow" that fuse.
You are stuck with the warning screen forever.
That has been stated in all tutorials for unlocking bootloader with knox though.
thank for you reply.
I know about Knox state and e-fuse but I want to re-lock the bootloader not set know to 0x0 that is not possible..
Maybe there will be the warning forever but it is in Chinese and nobody understand it (ahahah) but locking back the bootloader should give me back Netflix on play store (if you sell the phone everybody wants Netflix imho) all the rests I don't care.
Hi, I got it and solve my problem, thanks to this guide
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79698366&postcount=44 .
Thanks to @robbo1947 for posting the solution for the S10 that is working also for the Note 10
Just for everyone information the boot warning disappear when you re-lock the bootload.
have good day
at least you should tell the seller about that situation, or I wish the seller will quickly figure out what you are doing and return the phone to you. To be honest, if I am the seller and I know you are hiding something, I will be pissed off. Never think you can escape from your cheating so easily. cheers.
It is not my intention to fraud anybody. I will sell the phone clearly specify the situation to the future buyer.
My intention was just putting the phone usable for a normal person that doesn't care about Knox 0x1 and the not working Samsung apps (pass, pay, secure folder).
I'm honest and I would avoid problems when I sell something, so don't be worry I will explain everything as I have always done!
However thanks for sharing your opinion that I 100% agree.

Personally, I think it good of you to share what you have accomplished. That is what forums like this were created in thr first place. I think the previous comment was an insult to your character and based on assumption with a warning. Whatever lol, I wil say honest is the best policy and a disclosure a must.
On a litter note, Dam you sure took a big risk on such an expensive phone.
I'm aware of risks and it was intentional doing root since I bought the n9700 snapdragon version in China and i'm European and I did it to unlock all the bands and aggregation available in the world .... it worked using QPST and QDXM but I discovered later that rooting was not needed ...my fault ...
if someone would like to understand how to unlock bands and aggregations let me know
Bye bye

Yeah me too. I will be living in Jakarta and just picked up the Snapdrgon 10 plus from the USA unlocked. I know bands in use are different for each carrier and have tried the ×#*#4636#*#* with some success on an LG v30 rooted.
Hi,
I will write a specific guide. But it is tested only on the Note 10 - N9700 not any other version.
Give me few days to write it.

I am considering buying the HK version of the Note 10+.
What were the problems that resulted in your decision to sell?
Hi
I decided to sell it due to the Samsung ecosystem itself. nothing specific I was curious of testing it with the s-pen but at the end I strongly prefer a more stock experience.
