Rooting T-Mobile variant question. - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

I'm on a T-Mobile GM1915 with a rooted 9.5.8 international rom with the EXKM kernel, I think I'd prefer to be on 9.5.8 T-Mobile rom for the best possible signal coverage. I don't really need the second sim currently but I need to have root and the 675mhz gpu kernel. Is that possible? What's my best course of action to get rooted 9.5.8 T-Mobile rom?

Unlock BL, Flash TWRP, Then Magisk. Done, rooted TMO stock.

Great! Thank you for clarifying that. I was hoping it would be that easy. Now to wait for the unlock.bin... RIP Warranty.

There's a thread here of someone doing unlocks. If they're still doing it. That's how I got mine unlocked. Good luck!

Yeah, that is already available. You also don't need a msm tool to bootloader unlock.
Nevermind. At first you say you want to convert to international then make a comment that you dont want the tmobile one.

If your bootloader is locked what happened that it won't boot? You can't flash anything to a locked bootloader.

Are you sure it's not just in download mode (I think that's what it is called)? I had it happened on my 6t, I thought it was toast but it was just in that mode.
Try holding volume down and power 10 to 20 seconds and if that doesn't work try holding volume up and power. Try different combinations of the buttons.
If it vibrates after any of these combinations try to power it up normally.

Yes. There is an MSM Tool in the guides section of the 7 Pro forums of XDA. there are actually 3, but you're looking for the one to revert back to stock T-Mobile firmware.

Yep, it's possible to go back to stock. But I've been with T-Mobile for years and have turned in every phone I've had rooted with twrp installed. They've never given me any issues.

If I recall correctly, it'll even relock the bootloader, though you could just relock it yourself before using the tool to make sure. There's no flags tripped or anything like Samsung's Knox counter.

TMO OnePlus 7 Pro

So... I have sim unlock, received bootloader unlock code from one plus... now what? From what I have read, I am able to root the stock firmware with Magisk.
If I want to go the custom rom route, it looks like a majority of the roms are based on international version and I need to convert to international first.
I did hear the TMO firmware is optimized for their Network for volte and wifi calling, so if I do change to international, what will be the advantages/disadvantages?
Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
I'm using the int version of the OP7P with a TMO US Sim and cannot report any problems, VoLTE and VoWifi do work.
I think @joemossjr found there may be a LTE band priority difference between international and T-Mobile specific ROMs. TBH, I stick to an official T-Mobile ROM primarily because I want to get the best possible performance on T-Mobile's network.
I'm on T-Mobile, but have a rooted international rom installed. VoLTE and VoWifi ALWAYS work without issues.

So what's the advantage for a rooted international rom vs a rooted tmo rom?
My understanding is that most of the custom ROMs available are based off that version, but if I stay stock and rooted, other than updates coming faster, would there be any reason to do the conversion?

Well, the international rom comes straight from oneplus, so it won't be over bloated with T-Mobile background apps. Won't have the magneta boot screen. Of course these things can be delt with in a rooted tmobile rom version. So mainly quicker updates (fixes).
Thanks for the feedback. I know the international version is way more popular than tmo, so the conversion is inevitable. Maybe someone will be able to work some magic and be able to help us figure out what the tmo optimizations are and have some kind of patch we can zip with twrp.

That would be awesome! But yeah, I'd like to know if there's a huge difference in the mobile data or whatever compared to the T-Mobile rom as well.
Anyone know? I'm just wondering if the only advantage using the T-Mobile rom over the International one is better Volte and Vowifi? Or are they pretty much the same?
Using the int version (bought it to avoid the unlock and reflash hassl, return the TMO OP7P.to the TMO shop after I found out after having asked when buying) with US and DE TMO sims, I did not find any issues. The OP7P finally supports VoLTE and VoWiFi with German TMO which the OP6 did not.
The only thing I've noticed so far running International on T-Mobile is a couple times I've lost signal completely and I'll get two SIM card symbols in my staus bar until I reboot. Otherwise it's been perfect.
I'm on TMO, bootloader unlock, rooted with twrp installed, for some reasons i can't install adaway it says not enough storage. I have plenty of storage like 230G. Can't find any answer as to why.

t-mobile's 8T+, root, and (future) roms

I see there are already rooting/unlocking bootloader instructions for the regular 8T. is there any reason I should hesitate before buying the 8T+?
my main concern is (future) 8T roms may not work on 8T+. but in general, seems like most OnePlus phones eventually get official LineageOS. so should I not worry about it?
obviously it'll be some time before roms are available regardless - that's fine. I'm more thinking about 2 years down the road.

Thats for sim unlock. There's no time requirement listed for the bootloader. Only need the sim unlocked prior. So if tforce is willing to whitelist the imei (which it sounds like they usually do if your nice about it) then it should be possible. It can take 2 days to get the unlock file but thats better than 2 years to pay off the device.

No! This MSM tool is just to restore to stock TMO build, for example if it bricked or if you wanna return the device after rooting or switching to international (whenever those will be available) this tool doesn't do what you want yet
Edit: I just realized he even linked you a different one, this is for the international version if it got bricked or anything to restore, there is also a TMO MSM tool, but as I said before there isn't yet a tool that lets you convert from TMO to International, I'm also waiting for it
