Hi
I've installed a video player on the phone. I'd like to be able to play videos from the gallery directly with that player and set as default. It does not ask me how I want to play videos, just plays through gallery, how can I change it? No default settings neither in gallery, nor in the player app. Throuhg settings-apps the default option is obviously inactive, can't set even there.

Use a different gallery, this should solve your problem.
When selecting a video it will ask you which player to use, just once or always.

Yeah, that did the job, thanks.
I'm a bit sorry though, I'd preffer the one that the rom comes with, hopefully they'll add this option.

Is there anyway for playing the videos in the gallery in another media player by default other than the build in one, I have mx player installed and would like for the videos ive played in the gallery to play in that but if you click on the video in the gallery it just opens right up with no option as to what plays it. Searched the forum and have a found a few people asking but no one able to answer, also posted on the OPO forum but no one able to help.
Checked in the app info for gallery and mx player and cleared 'launch as default' but still just plays in the default app. Doesn't seem to be any app info por options for the default video player.
Reason i ask is that I have auto rotate disabled so if viewing videos that are shot in landscape they are not full screen, but if viewed in mx player there is a setting within the app to force them to full screen.
anyone?
while opening videos from gallery, the videos open in native video player instead of opening in mx player. i have mx player installed in my phone.
there is no option to configure the default setting.
please help.
if any body has any solution.
yup, same problem here, so i've just learned to live with the stock player lol
I think it's not possible to change this! Why I have no idea. There are volume problems with the default video player, as in it frequently starts loudest when the media volume is all the way down. Many times I've been in a quiet environment and boom it's loud and I have to scramble to turn it down manually. Also like the video to start fullscreen, which seems to me to be a sensible default behavior.

why don't you open the videos from dcim folder using es explorer or any other file browser?
Same issue with VLC.
any update ??
yeah i also facing the issue ,have you found the solution?
It's something Samsung have done, even if you use a package disabler to freeze the stock video player, it just complains that there are no apps installed able to play videos from the gallery even if MX Player is installed
Sucky move
I even denied permission for the stock video player it still plays the videos in gallery regardless. And you are forced to allow permission to the player to access the file.
If there was anyway we could disable the default video player we could replace it with mxplayer.
The default stock video player is stupid. When you change the brightness it also changes the brightness of the whole phone.
Just today 17th February 2017 Nougat OS had been working fine since installed on 11th Feb but today I could not play video files from within other apps ie whatsapp where it had been work fine. Videos open up but will not play and when I went into the Honor Video app properties via settings I noticed in Open By Default there is No Default set now and there used to be.
But if I open the video app directly and play a video they play or open video from a folder the also play..
Did try with another video app VLC same problem...
Anyone had this problem..
UPDATE.... Fixed now!
Uninstalled WA, VLC and reinstall WA and restore the backup of WA, videos play now with Honor Video player. So went ahead and install VLC again and videos play now and the option to select video player is back..
Oh well all good for now

Not seeing such problem on my H8 (L09 with B360), it could be bug of other app, most probably the video player.
When you tap on a video in Whatsapp to play it, does it prompt you to choose a video player to use? If you don't see this prompt then you probably had already set a default player. Go to Settings > Apps, check on all the video player you've installed to see if it's set as default player, if yes then you can click on the Clear Default button to clear it.
After that you can tap on a video again in Whatsapp to set a new default video player, or like me, just use the "Just Once" option and don't set any default player.

Glad to hear that!
My previous phones were a Samsung S2 & S4, and one of the features I found useful, was being able to change the default video player (usually to MX Player). However, on my G7 Power, I can't seem to be able to do this, and there isn't a video player option in the app defaults.
Is there a way of doing this within the OS, or with a 'hack' ?

I can change the default player to VLC or x-ploer without any issue.
There is an option when you first time open a video file let you choose which program to play it as default

I don't get that option on my G7. If I go into Files, and pick a video, it just opens with the default player; to open it with another video player, I have to select a video and then go to the three dots at the top, and choose Open with.
I have tried resetting the default apps, but that didn't give me the option of picking a default video player, it just stopped half my apps working, as they lost their permissions

From app management to clear the default app , you are ready to go.
It was because you already selected the default player at the first run (or you didn't have the second player installed at the first run), so you won't see the option again until you clear the default
Here my moto G7 power, it still has option to choose which player can be chosenView attachment 5046801
Unfortunately I can't see your attachment, if I click on the link, I just get the message "Invalid Attachment specified"
When I look in Default Apps, I don't have any default apps for video - see attached screenshot

When you installed a second video player, next time to click a compatible video file , you should see the option to choose the player , also there would be a "default" option's check box

I have now tried UPlayer & Xplayer, and clicked on a mp4 file in my downloads (in Files app), and it still always open the default video player. I tried granting one access permission beforehand, but that didn't help. There is still no video player showing in default apps either. I can't find any reference to the default/stock video player in the apps list or recent apps, so I can't even disable it, maybe it is part of the files app?

Were you ever able to solve this issue? I'm having the same problem with my G7 Plus. Even if I remove/disable all the apps in the "Open With" menu, something else is still always opening videos by default.
I have it changed for when I'm browsing in files app but it doesn't change when using the Gallery app. I was hoping Good Locks would be able to make the change but can't that option.
Try mx player i used vkc for years and real player and settled on mx

Will it play automatically from the Gallery app?
Doesn't look like it's possible. The Gallery app is so bonded to the camera app it's probably like that for a reason.
Personally I don't use Samsung Gallery as a standalone app, there are far better and more powerful apps out there. I use F-Stop for all my media content.
When you click video in the gallery app it then should ask you to use the Samsung player you dont select that and just then select mx

it doesn't give you that option in the stock GALLERY app. it always uses the samsung built in video player.
i have since switched to Fstop it works great however whenever i select a photo from the CAMERA app it always uses GALLERY not Fstop. minor inconvenience.
Ye will do that im not sure if there is a way to change it unless modding lol
