How to flash Magisk on Nougat? - Honor 6X Questions & Answers

Hello. Just got my phone back from assistance and had my motherboard replaced after an unrecovable hard brick.
Atm I'm on Nougat and I don't plan to update to Oreo, I just wanna root my device again and I would like to do so using Magisk.
So, I've unlocked my bootloader, flashed TWRP 3.1.1-0 and then tried to flash Magisk 19.3 zip: problem is my phone is encrypted so it requires password for encrypting and it fails (as expected), then it wanna do a factory reset and reboot into TWRP which is unable to factory reset properly while eRecovery doesn't have a factory reset option so meh.
I didn't had problems installing Magisk on Oreo but right now I'm pretty tired and cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong on Nougat. Any hint?

How is that you can unlock bootloader in these months?
My father give me the BLL23, and is on stock Rom (nougat)
But I want to try Viper, and that's making me need root, then I need to unlock...

Have you tried Ianmacd's builds? They're friendly with Huawei devices. Sincerely it's weird that official Magisk doesn't work since that topjohnwu has fixed troubles with EMUI some time ago, but give it a try. And here's a dedicated wiki in way to troubleshoot most common errors.
Plus, in way to factory reset as the OS asks, stock recovery is needed as you'll know. Even if the phone is encrypted a password shouldn't be asked after flashing Magisk. That usually is asked by recovery, so i don't know about this.

Questions about OTA/Update to Nougat

Hello.
Just got the news about 7.0 being released for this phone, and thought I would give it a shot. However, I have a few questions before I update . These are not in any particular order and I would love any help people can provide, even if you can't answer all the questions.
Since I got this phone, I unlocked the bootloader (I bought the unlocked version) and got TWRP, then installed SuperSU binary in order to use a few root apps on my phone. Then along came an OTA update. When I went to install it, I got a message informing me that the update couldn't be installed due to my system being modified, which was fair enough as I had installed SuperSU. I stopped bothering with OTA updates.
Now it's been a while and the Nougat update is out and apparently available over OTA. Is there a way for me to return to normal system and get this OTA without losing all of my personal data already on the phone? I understand that I'd probably have to get TWRP again, and what is recommended for root now? Can I "re-lock" my bootloader in order to get the OTA?
Basically: How can I get Nougat without losing my data?
Cheers, and thanks for reading! Quick answers would be appreciated.

backup your data and then flash a ruu, either the nougat version if its available for your version or flash the marshmallow ruu then take the ota update.
What is your "fastboot getvar all" ?

I was able to get it by poking around in the forums, first got the RUU for 1.57, relocked bootloader, and am now OTAing the Nougat version (fingers crossed it all works). Thank you so much for replying!
Question: If I install TWRP (like I had before) and then Magisk, will I continue to be able to receive OTA updates? Backing up and reinstalling is such a pain and I'm afraid I will break something. Some people say you need to mount system read-only - how is this accomplished via TWRP exactly?
Thanks again!

I just went thru the process or putting magisk on nougat. You'll want to use twrp 3.0.3-4 for it. From what I understood from the user who clued me into it, magisk will let you take OTA's and use android pay since it won't mess with dm-verity, SELinux or safetyNet. I can definately confirm the Android pay part at least. I did notice however i had to turn on magisk hide in the settings to get it to pass the safetynet check.
as for mounting the system as read only, the first time i booted into twrp it asked me to either slide the lock to modify /system or check a box to mount it as read only and that was it.

I was mistaken, Magisk now patches dm-verity and forced encryption. You should be able to take an OTA by flashing the stock recovery though, and failing that by also restoring the system image backup you make in TWRP before modifying or mounting system.

SAFE rooting to HUAWEI MATE 9

hi guys ,
I`ve read this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-how-to-root-mate-9-decrypt-data-t3569986
my ask : Does this rooting goes well with MHA-L29C185B172 ?
if not , then how can i root my device SAFELY ?
thanks all
one, post, no experience with rooting android phones, do NOT root this phone unless there is some important reason to.
do ALOT more reading before you even think about rooting
Thx to reply. Like the others i wanna root to have root apps in my phone ,
Thx . Wanna have apps requires root in my phone . That simple
You don't even need to decrypt if you don't want to.
Unlock Developer Options (Settings - About: tap build number until it says it's enabled)
Go to the Developer Options and enable OEM Unlocking
Unlock bootloader
Flash twrp 3.1.0
Flash SuperSU no-decrypt (https://mega.nz/#!lkV0jbYJ!b1h-5uVksvpt7rw0tRHV7Qxjwk2xkKox0w-iRsCLlbU)
Have fun.
For decryption follow the decrypt guide.
To undo root and relock (Bootloader Locked) flash a stock firmware using the Force flash guide under Guides or use firmware finder).
For Magiskv12 root you need firmware B182+
super!!! , I did unlock the device and flashed twrp ,then tried install SU but failed , that made me afraid of bricking if i did further action

Original SuperSU 2.79 won't install. We have no loop support in kernel pre-B182. And even with support it doesn't install. The one I linked is a phh supersu hybrid. It uses phh su's method of installing, but installs SuperSU.

Hi. I just happen to come across your post and noticed you said that there is no loop support pre-B182. I have the Chinese version with B213. Some apps, like Linux on Android need, unless something has changed, loop support as well as root. Do you have a reference or a link about the loop support on this phone? Thanks!
I failed install su however still waiting for any updates

Just would like to say that it's not fair to say him that in case that the second entry said: One post on xda and he wants to root!
I think the problem is the order you gave him @ante0 (MAYBE!)
Unlock bootloader
flash TWRP
And I think he now has a BIG problem bc you DIDN'T said or forced him to go into developer settings and turn on OEM-unlock!
@nawraz did you turned on OEM-unlock in developer settings?
if you boot into fastboot mode are BOTH (bootloader and FRP = unlocked (in red letters), or and I really hoper NOT is FRP lock (in green letters)???
Maybe that is now the problem for him, not being able to flash SuperSU?
If you have luck @nawraz then try to flash TWRP 3.0.2-2 and with that SuperSU2.79
If you have root then you can install latest TWRP (3.1.0-1)
If you can't flash anything... oh oh!

He already unlocked and flashed twrp.
3.1.0 installs SuperSU fine. 3.0.3 does not.
And if oem was locked he wouldn't even be in twrp as you can't flash anything with fastboot if it is locked.
But I'll update my post in case anyone does miss to unlock oem.
Hope you don't get me wrong!
Just said that bc I had that problem 5 days ago and the only thing that helped was funky!
I had a softbrick and a reboot always kicked me into eRecovery
I just had eRecovery and fastboot!
Bootloader relocked and frp locked!
Stupid me relocked the bootloader bc I read that you then can unlock oem, then unlock bootloader again!
Well, that was a mistake!

Yeah. Only way then would be to rebrand to C636 using the DLOAD method, then rebrand back to your stock version using the Update thread under Guides. The latter requires twrp though so you'd need to rebrand first to get a working system.
To be honest I just figured he had already unlocked and flashed twrp as he was in the decrypt thread
Missing oem was an error on my side. It was long since I had to unlock oem xD

Weird. I tested with 3.1.0 a few days ago. But I guess it could have to do with builds. 3.1.0 is using kernel for B182. Maybe it's fixed if you use 3.1.0 with B182.
Oh well, good you managed to install it anyway.
Edit: I tested with the SuperSU I linked.

All I know is that it wasn't present in builds before B182.
@st_voss is the one who found out it was added in B182 (Kernel build April. 11th probably as that's what I have on B182.).
It might be present in B181 on C636 as well, that was released 8th of May.
mr. ante0 ..... u r the man , thank you so much

Anyone Willing to Help a Newbie Pixel User.

Hello guys is there anyone willing to help me out?
Im long term HTC user in the past 15 Plus years i was flshing whatever i want and im familiar with this but i switched to Pixel 2 and i want to clear for myself few things prior before to brick it.
I also read this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2/how-to/guide-unlock-flash-root-pixel-2-walleye-t3702417
But its seems like the thread is not updated and some users mention problems with flashing Magisk etc.
Im fully Stock locked bootloader with the latest Android Pie from 5 January 2018
The Pixel i use is Google Edition worlwide version not loocked to any network etc.
The main reason to want to Bootloader unlock it is because i need the Magisk in order to be able to flash and use few of the must have for me apps that i use all the time.
1st is SAURON audio - without Magisk and TWRP this is not posible.
2nnd few additional Magisk modules that i use non stop in the past few years.
What is not clear for me is the steps and exactly the second steb with Flashing Flashing factory images?!
In HTC i need to get the bootloader unlock S-OFF is i want and flash a TWRP in this case i can flash on top Magisk so here is different and not very clear for me as well.
When im now on the latest Android version from 5 January do i need still to flash FACTORY IMAGE after unlocking the bootloader?
Is anyone willing to help to clear the things out before to mess the device.
Thanks in advance

Hi If you just want to unlock bootloader, there is no reason to flash factory image again. Just allow unlock bootloader in developer options, reboot to bootloader and run fastboot flashing unlock, this will fully wipe/factory reset your device.
Now you could boot/flash TWRP and install magisk.
When will be new monthly update available, flash it with help of this thread:
Code:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2/how-to/guide-how-to-install-google-software-t3760033
Good luck :good:

Thank you for the info.
So this mean i dont need to flash Image if im with the latest stock Version.
I prefer to stay stock just miss some Magisk modules thats why i wondering what to do.
Can i flash just a Kernel for example KiriSakura after unlock the bootloader and install TWRP just to flash Kiri Kernel with the stock rom im now and other Magisk stuffs like Sauron etc.
Thanks again
Hi exactly, if you run latest stock you havn't flash it again after bootloader unlock.
If you want to petmanently flash twrp, you have to do it before flashing magisk, othetwise you willn't be able to boot os only twrp.

Facing issues after custom ROMing: Need to retreat

I started off by unlocking bootloader (and losing my DRM). I needed to root. Everything was perfect. Then, I saw the VoLTE ROMs. I went for Bliss. It installed OK but I started to get SIM1 issues and than I was not able to get a all-clear on the Magisk security test. Also, my corporate apps failed to install because device was not getting encrypted. I reinstalled but same effect. Then I went to crDroid. Its Android 9. Exact same issues except SIM1 was okay now. Right now, I used XperiFirm to get the official ROM and install it but keep TWRP + Magisk and I'm still facing the issue with encryption, Magisk security test failing, & no rooting.
How should I reinstall official ROM but keep bootloader unlocked + Magisk + root? Am I to do a more through formatting?
me too other person can't hear me what i say. (Bliss rom 12.12 latest ver.)

if you go to reinstall official rom you will not having any facing problems only root will gone, and i use Emma software
I'm not used to Emma. But from what I gathered, I'll be back on a non-root device. I do not want that. We are already facing issues with Android 10 Roms and device encryption. I need to reinstall with XperiFirm but need to know what *ta files I need to delete before flashing and also, what do I have to format and wipe as well. Need to retain boot loader as unlocked.
No need to delete any *ta just flash with newflasher

HI. Keeping all TA files means I'll loose unlock bootloader too? Say I'm more in favor of having a working phone, what do I need to format or wipe before flashing or I just flash and everything is set? Since I have bootloader already unlocked do I need to say y/n to the new flasher questions?
give only for all and put ENTER don't worry

Question TWRP for Oneplus 9?

Today I tried to install twrp from this link
Install TWRP Recovery on OnePlus 9/9 Pro [Android 13]
In this comprehensive tutorial, we will show you the steps to install the TWRP Recovery on OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro devices.
www.droidwin.com
I have the CN version (LE2110 ) with Oxygen 11.2.9.9.LE25AA. I was able to make it unlocked but on the step where I am in the temporary TWRP I can't now browser to any files I copied before. I have no access to the SDCARD, to flash TWRP permanent.
Is there another workaround to get TWRP running on the OP9 and root it after?
thanks
Andy
Great the twrp from op9 pro works perfecet. magisk and root as well. thanks very much for the great work.
Is there a way to disable the unlocked message which appears on the boot?
what happen if I lock it again? does TWRP and root work then?. Bit scary to try as yesterday I was hanging in a boot loop with trying twrp...)
thanks
I unlocked the bootloader with adb fastboot flashing unlock.
what do you mean by MSM?
right now I am on stock rom with all updates, TWRP with Magisk and root.
should I look the bootloader with ad fastboot flashing lock ? Do I still have TWRP and Magisk with root running after I lock the bootloader again?
thanks
Do not ever lock your bootloader with TWRP installed or root! It can and very likely will brick your device! You can only get rid of that message by going back to stock without root and without TWRP and then relock. You have been warned, do not even think about it
Hi,
ok thanks for the information, then I better leave this message,
thanks
Hi,
ok I will leave the message then.
thanks to all for quick support
It is/was "possible" to remove, but the difficulty and risk are not worth it.
