what kind of a backup? a twrp one? i cant lose data i need to save it. look ive already had this once and someone helped me when this encryption thing was broken and it worked out. please i need to save my data like photos and everything in the internal storage
here i can describe what i did again
hello. here is what i did: i downloaded the official 9.0.7 rom to my phone, went to recovery, wiped everything apart from internal storage. then i installed the rom, after that twrp and then magisk. when i booted into system it worked but i got stuck on the screen that said "checking info". it went on for 3 minutes and then it said "there was an error communicating with google servers please try again later". i tried it 5 times nothing changed and i know this is a common problem that won't fix by itself so i went into recovery and tried to restore a backup that i created, but it didnt boot into system instead it said that my device was corrupt and booted back to recovery. ive had encryption enabled and because of that all the files were unreadable and my blu spark twrp didnt ask for a password. now i cant flash from my phone but when i try to flash the official rom from my flash card then i do twrp and then magisk and i try to boot into system it just sends me back into recovery every time no matter what i try and because of encryption all my files on the phone are unreadable. what to do?
You could try using the adb pull command to pull the contents of the folder or folders with your pictures from the phone to your computer. Then, if you have to do something that wipes your internal storage, at least you'll have the pictures. You can do this with your whole /sdcard or any folders in it if you need to, not just for pictures.
You might not be bricked as badly as you fear. Try this:
Make sure you have the latest version of TWRP, which is, I think, 3.3.1-3. The current blu_spark version might be fine, too, but people were having problems with a recent version of that.
Boot to TWRP.
Install OOS 9.07.
Flash TWRP.
Reboot to recovery.
Flash OOS 9.07 again.
Flash TWRP again.
Reboot to recovery.
Flash Magisk.
Reboot to system.

I think you can't do nothing for save your data, but situation is less serious than i was believing... You can copy with adb pull command but data will stay encrypted... Now you have to
1) FORMAT data, not WIPE but FORMAT
2) reboot to recovery
2a) now you can use MTP from recovery and copy whatever you want from your PC to device
3) flash oos 9.0.7 then TWRP, reboot recovery
4) again same thing, flash oos 9.0.7 then TWRP, reboot recovery
5) to avoid this problem again now i suggest you to flash latest magisk and then oos_noverity for disable force encryption (link to 3d down below)
6) reboot system
6a) if everything is going on right side, your phone will reboot twice before startup android
7) Check your google photo backup, if you had left it default, you can have your photos back
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/tutorial-decrypt-flash-rom-pie-oreo-roms-t3838643
With phone decrypted you'll never go through this problem again and you can downgrade security patch too without lose nothing

Why don't you just boot to the other partition (A/B partitioning is directly benefiting situations like this)?
Why are you wiping system when you are upgrading, just dirty flash? Which 9.0.7 zip did you download, incremental or full?
guys i did something through adb i launched it and now the system is there and everything is gone it says 115 gb free out of 116 please tell me isnt there a method like fbi uses to restore formatted hard drives even after theyve been wiped out? theres supposed to be a way to do it like fbi does with criminals hard drives they still restore them? please help im having a mental breakdown right now my heart hurts bad im shaking im dizzy my hands are shaking too that phone was my life

A) read my previous post....
B) "guys i did something through adb i launched it and now the system and there and everything is gone"................. yeah, going to go with a hard no on that.
B1) what did you do in adb
C) FBI here, "KÄDET YLÖS, HOUSUT ALAS!" - translates roughly to "hands up, pants down" - want to buy my book? https://kauppa.intokustannus.fi/kirja/kadet_ylos_housut_alas/
Once again, did you try booting to your other partition (A/B)? Or have you probed your hardware so hardly with software softly that you have 115 gb free out of 116..... sounds like a issue even fbi cannot solve now.....
Should have just paid me for letting you know how to upload pictures before that chain of events.
Then maybe you wouldn't have been shaking and dizzy from using your hands so much (not sure what you were doing... doesn't sound safe, it's not even a week before November), but I would call a doctor.
EDIT: I would sell you FBI/NSA tool from my friends in Estonia... but if you are just going to "i did something in through adb, ..." it, will not be worth your while.
Plus you never paid me for telling you how to upload a picture to a forum, maybe practice that before restoring encrypted data......

i was busy trying to do something as other people recommended. what was it exactly that you were offering? patching from otg had no effect as it still didn't boot me into system but instead back into recovery. and patching from the phone itself was impossible because of enabled encryption it couldn't read anything. yet you had a way to restore things without losing my data?

Rooted my N5 yesterday and it was working fine. Then today, I was trying to flash the Camera app from Jinshu when I got stuck on the dancing circles screen... went back into TWRP recovery and, I think, accidentally flashed the entire internal storage...
I can still get into TWRP, but when I click reboot > system , I get a warning message "No OS Installed! Are you sure you wish to reboot?" :crying:
I am using a Mac and have the SDK etc. installed, but I don't even see the device as a USB device in order to try and figure out how to get the system files back on the device.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

You've got a few options...forgive me if you've tried any of these already...I'm just offering ideas for you to find one that works for you...
1) restore a nandroid backup if you have one
or
2) ADB sideload a zip for one of the roms in the development sections
or
3) ADB push then flash a zip from the development sections
or
4) Flash the factory images using fastboot

Download this ROM (Odex)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507861
Boot in TWRP, and either use adb sideload:
./adb sideload path_to_hammerhead_KRT16M_odex_signed.zip
or use adb push
./adb push path_to_hammerhead_KRT16M_odex_signed.zip /data/media/0
Then proceed with flashing it from recovery.
Yep, you have plenty of options so don't panic. Personally, I'd use this as an opportunity to teach yourself how to setup and use ADB and Fastboot commands to flash factory images. Once you teach yourself how to do this properly you will no longer get overly concerned when another situation like this inevitably occurs. This will be a learning experience that you will benefit from later on.
If you are on a Mac, follow THIS GUIDE to properly setup ADB/Fastboot for use. Then use THIS GUIDE to learn how to properly flash a factory image.
Thanks for your quick responses guys...
While I was searching, I found this site: liciousroms dot com slash nexus5_restore.html (sorry, cannot post URLs just yet!)
I was able to get the stock .img files from the download package for system, recovery and boot, and as you guys pointed out, learned the utility of fastboot to get the images onto the device
Recovered, booted, and just getting back in business.
Thanks so much !!!

For other folks that will run into this problem, note that TWRP 2.6.3.1 supports USB OTG. You can load a ROM into an sd card, plug it into the USB OTG cable and then into the phone and TWRP will mount it.

A few things:
1) I wouldn't download stock images from any websites other than official. People could bake in all kinds of stuff. There's no need for other sites to re-host official stock images, so there's usually a reason why they would.
2) I mean no offense by this, but if you're unsure enough in what you're doing to accidentally format the entire internal storage then you should do a lot more research before attempting this stuff. This is reversible, your next accident might not be. I don't ordinarily assume, but judging by your username and the accident you've committed I'd assume you're fairly young...so blowing another $400 on a new device because you bricked this one from a mistake is probably a big deal. Take some time and understand, completely, what you're doing.
3) That being said, Nexus devices are made to be open. They're made for people to modify and have fun with. Explore and experiment all you want, just make sure to have a good NANDROID backup before you do.

Good point. I'll reflash to the openrecovery-twrp-xxx version shortly anyway, but the point is valid and I'll make sure to have an official image and regular NANDROID backups handy for future experiments

None taken. I'm not really young, just new to Android/ tinkering. In any case, blowing $400 on a device is still a big deal and I want to avoid that like a plague Alas, youth has no monopoly on stupid.

Boot into boot loader and use the flash-all.bat that's inside the factory image. Unzip it using 7-zip. You'll see it in there. Boot into bootloader, plug your usb cable in and run the bat file
Edit, you'll lose everything on your phone

How can I unzip a file from the factory image on my phone if it is on desktop? Am I missing something (thanks for tolerating this)?
At this point I could care less about loosing any apps, data, or pics,
So let me start by saying I am 100% a noob, and I have read many threads trying to get to the bottom of my problem to no avail. I am sorry if there is a solution for my problem somewhere, I've been working on this issue for 24 hours and have yet to find it.
My girlfriend was apparently using google maps on here relatively new phone (running 5.0.1) and it crashed. Upon restarting it was stuck on the coloured dots screen for several hours. She has not installed any third party apps, only those from the playstore and not too many of them at that.
I tried factory reset and received a bunch of errors about failing to load the E:// or something like that. The phone still would not boot up.
I downloaded minimal fastboot thinger on my windows 8.1 laptop and tried to flash a new image of 5.0.1 on it, IIRC I received errors about E:// again
Got Wugfresh NRT and tried TWRP wiped all (still saw some stuff about E:// failing to mount and such) then tried to unroot flash stock with soft brick/bootloop checked.
Still bootlooped for over an hour when I started it up.
Tried flashing 4.4.4 instead. It worked. Phone booted up. Gallery/Camera do not work however at this point. Tried updating to 5.0.1.... phone restarted bootloop for 8 hours and counting.
Flashed 4.4.4 again, Followed Full Driver Installation Guide in NRT exactly. Tried Flash Stock + Unroot with Device is on/Normal checked this time instead. Now it has been colored dots screen for about 20 minutes.
So I can load 4.4.4 but no matter how I've tried to install lollipop 5.0.1, it stays on booting screen forever.
What do?
Thank you so much in advance and apologies for being a noob.
EDIT: More googling today. Looks like my E:/Persist partition is corrupted or something, trying to figure out how to repair it right now.

If I can bet it must be a corrupted persist partition. Lollipop will not boot if its gets corrupted but kitkat will do. If you could tell what is the actual error you see in twrp or cwm recovery then we could identfy the actual problem. But I am 90% sure the mount error is about persist partition.

I'm actually looking at that right now! Downloading Java and Android SDK atm. Of course still a little shaky on a couple terms in your guide hopefully I can sort it out. Really confused as to how Google Maps on a vanilla nexus 5 could corrupt a partition like that, its all google endorsed and official. They should be fixing my phone not me lol.

Alright so I am definitely having problems running adb shell. even if I change the directory in cmd to my adb.exe location (android\android-sdk\platform-tools) I keep getting the error adb shell is not a recognized blah blah blah....
NVM got it working. Whenever I get frustrated enough to make a post I end up finally finding a solution.
ALRIGHT I have Lollipop up and running thanks to your guide on fixing persist partition. Thank you so much! Question: I have a nexus 5 and it does not have an sd card. I'm not sure how to proceed in doing the steps you described involving mac addresses. I did use a hex editor and make those files, but not sure where to put them in my phones internal storage, and how to direct adb to said location. Any help with that?

Just copy them to the root of your internal storage, then follow the guide.
I mean you just open the phone's internal storage from your PC and you dont open any folder. You just copy it there.
The guide is for nexus 5, but some people refer to the internal storage as sdcard too. I know it is a bit confusing. Thanks to point it out. I will make clear in my guide now.
AH I see ok I will do that tonight. Ran in to another problem though it may be related to the mac address thing I haven't done yet, not sure how that all works. The phone randomly restarts every few minutes and it won't connect to the carrier either. Also if it matters I left the boot loader unlocked for now until the phone is working properly, if that affects anything.

The lock state of the bootloader does not matter, but this random reboots after a few minutes is something to worry about. Your phone should not do that after formating persist partition.

Give another try formating persist, but I am here now. So, if you want I can do everything for you through teamviewer. You just have to send the log in informations to my email address.

Hey, i have oneplus 6.I have unlocked the bootloader,i have stock rom and my phone was rooted with magisk. Few days ago i unrooted my phone, clicked uninstall in magisk and it started unrooting. Then if it was done i clicked reboot and after that my phone was only able to boot into twrp. It couldnt boot into ROM.Nothing on the internet helped,so i flashed my stock ROM again (i was on my stock rom already) from flash drive. It went well and my phone booted up. But since that my phone doesn't show internal storage. In file manager it shows 10/128 GB used, but if i try to look into my storage it doesnt show anything. Also if i try to take photos, it cant, and i also cant download and update several apps in play store.
Can somebody help me? Can somebody explain what happened?Does somebody know how to fix it if its even possible?
Ty for help :')

Hi kimmix, and thx trying to help. I havent done the factory reset yet, but i want to say that my phone doesnt have root either twrp anymore. Unlocked bootloader is ofc still there. Do i need to do factory reset from phone settings then(settings/system/recovery and resets/factory reset), somehow from my stock recovery or i need to put twrp again to my phone (from pc)?
This happened me a day or two ago.
Drove me really crazy, tried bunch of stuff flashing full zips over and over. Nothing fixed it.
Then inside twrp I used fix contents button (if I recall correctly it should be under advanced menu)
And that totally solved my problem, It should solve yours too.
Before factory resetting boot twrp via fastboot and try.
Hope this helps because that gave me some sleepless nights.

2. Do 'fix contents'
3. Boot to system
And if doesnt work then
1. Boot to twrp
2. Do factory reset
3. Flash stock rom to A
4. Boot to B
5. Flash stock rom to B
6. Wipe cache
7. Do 'fix contents'
8. Reboot

Talking about 'fix contents'.
If i try do this it shows "it can cause system unable to boot up". Can you tell me, in wich situation or what can cause that after doing 'fix contents', device is not able to boot up.

I am not a dev nor I have no idea what does fix contents actually do. It just fixed my issue so I thought it could solve yours too
or you could just reflash stock rom from msmdownload tool to lessen the hassle lol.

Hey, i saw 'fix contexts' fixed your problem. What is "phone decrypting" and how did you do that? Maybe i did something similar that made my internal storage "go away".

Is someone able to help me? I messed up in a big way. Long story short, I cannot seem to get the DATA partition back on my phone. I did read the part about encryption but was so excited I (Yes, confirmed dummy) was thinking that it meant android encryption and not simply lockscreen/password.
My passcode is correct, but the data is corrupted. I cannot repair the Data partition, nor can select it in TWRP. My computer no longer recognizes the phone. My backup somewhat works but not really, since the data part of the backup can't be installed.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I read the entire thread and thought I was prepared but nope. Or do I need to go phone shopping?

So why not just download the correct ruu for your phone ,,, flash that in download mode and start over ? Or has that been tried already?
It has not been tried. I didn't know what to do. I will try that, thank you. Any other tips or steps? Again, thank you!

Its pretty straight foward, load the correct ruu on the root of your sd card , rename it to 2pzcimg.zip , boot phone to download mode , press the up volume key when prompted and thats it. hth,, good luck,
Thanks! That worked and it was super super easy.

Phone: Note 20 Ultra (N986)
So I got twrp installed--3.5.2. Everything is running smoothly--up until I need to restore a back up. I get this message:
"cannot restore System -- mounted read only."
I've googled up and down on how to resolve this issue, and almost all of them recommend unticking the read only option in "Mount". That problem is: that option ISN'T there for me.
Does anyone have any insight into this?
Bump.
I've reflashed twrp again, but I did not see any options that prompts me to allow write at any point. Or any prompt of any kind for that matter.
Please help.

Was there any kind of note asking permission about making system read only whenever you enter twrp mode ?? It happened with me once and I permitted it to but I never take a backup through twrp so I don't know if it did anything. You can flash a custom ROM on your device.

Unfortunately, I had no warnings of any kind.
I'm certain I could flash a custom Rom if I wanted to, but I'd like to know that I have a back up image to fall back on in case something goes wrong before I proceed.

Well then why is twrp doing all strange things ??? I read somewhere else that it encrypted all data too.
Bump.
