G710ULM Android Pie - LG G7 ThinQ Guides, News, & Discussion

Thought I'd try loading a couple of the Pie builds with LGUP. I loaded G710AWM20a_00_OPEN_CA_OP_0523.kdz and to my surprise this what my phone says:

As much as I'd like to say it was a success, I am unable to connect to Sprint LTE bands which isn't surprising.

I am in Vietnam, I also have a LG G710ULM10j phone. I also searched but there is no Android P version for this model. I want to ask you. How do you successfully update P, and what is the problem with your phone?
If possible please tell me how to perform this update.

Oreo update ... still waiting.

I struggle to understand why it's so difficult to get any information about when I can expect my phone to update to Oreo. I understood that it would be updateable out of the box when I bought it back in August, but I'm still waiting. I'm not overly bothered about the new features, but I need an Oreo device to properly test an app I have to update, according to Google Play.
Anyway, I was wondering. It's November the 2nd, Oreo has been about for a while now, I have a 2018 phone running 7.1. I've tried updating through the few legitimate means available but am still being told my device is up-to-date. Trawling the Internet for clues about who has or hasn't got this update, I've failed to find any definitive information. So I don't know if my phone is not updating when it should be, and I'm reluctant to do any hacking. Too many bad experiences there.
So the question is, is anyone else here with a Galaxy A8 (2018) still waiting? I'm on giffgaff, with an unbranded, unlocked (i.e. not network locked) phone.
Thanks,
Paul.

I'm not rooted, and I wanted to avoid using Odin or any unofficial means of updating. In the past I've just had too many headaches with those approaches. I guess I was really just wondering who else out there is waiting for this long overdue update.
took my phone half a month to see a new update

You can try SamFirm downloader, when there is an update available it will show up.
Odin is safe to use, you can flash official filmware through it without a problem.
It is possible to flash other country filmware with the Oreo update with the same bootloader that you've got.
For some countries there won't be any updates to Oreo, and they stay on Nougat 7.1 August patch.

Whats the other solution you have left?
With SamFirm you can see directly if there's an update or not, its that simple and can do no harm.

I don't see the problem, from SamFirm you get an official update just like OTG, the difference is that its updating right from your Phone with an OTG.
Basically you receive the same update.
But, "Suit yourself"

I mean the actual hardware not firmware.
Don't forget that I cannot see any device that is connected via OTG adapter at this moment.
Problem solved.
OTG is supported only with the original adapter.

What's the consensus ? Go or No-go?
Any one care to share their experience? How is it? Everything working? Anything broken(other than the Volte that was mentioned earlier)? Any quirks? Upgrades*(better battery life, more fluid performance, etc) ?
I got a notification the other day for the update too on my US996, but I didn't want to mess up a "good thing", haha... or more over, my V20 is running relatively fine on android 7 for now, thought I'd wait and see feedback before I touch the waters...thanks to those brave pioneers out there who fearlessly try out the latest and greatest updates.
Never rooted it.. and kept to stock firmware.
Everything is working so far on Verizon - once I got VoLTE back (see above - and that would be a deal breaker for me - I was prepping to roll it back). For now - I'd say it's a go.. but I'm also already committed.
My advice - you waited this long.. give it another week or two...
My battery is still settling in for Oreo. Once it settles that I should get more battery Screen on Time.
Overall, its an amazing experience.
Chipster0 and YPG70, thanks for the feedback. I suppose I'll wait a little longer before I upgrade, good to hear that everything seems to be positive; a real upgrade, rather than an "upgrade" that messes things up.
Anyone have any ideas why my unlocked US996 isn't getting an update notification? I'm on AT&T network (if that matters). In fact I'm running 99610d. Security patch of Oct. 1 2016. I thought there was a security update more current than that.
I did try LG bridge before Jan 2019 and it didn't report any new security updates. I'm yet to try LG Bridge now that it seems oreo is finally being rolled out on US 996. I was trying to avoid LG Bridge because I want to avoid losing all my settings (which I believe will happen when you go the LG Bridge route).
Thanks
EDIT: I just ran LG Bridge, and it reports back with "your phone is up to date". When I click OK, and the "your phone is up to date" window disappears, I am then presented with what looks like there is indeed a "new version" dating 12.11.2017. However, it states that I must go to the Update Center settings on my phone to do the update. But when I do that, my phone says I'm on the latest...
Ended up online chatting with LG support. Spoke with two of them who were adamant that LG doesn't push OTA firmware's and that it must be through the carrier (despite my phone being the unlocked version). They also said LG Bridge is for Android 6.0 and lower (despite LG bridge being the software specified at the v20 US 996 website). Anyway, with ridiculous statements like that, I knew I wasn't going to get any help from them. I ended up downloading the firmware from the link (thanks!) and using uppercut to flash the downloaded. So I'm happy to report that I am now running Oreo and haven't encountered any issues so far.
Can this be safely installed on US996 UCL?

Thank you. That worked.
Fastboot is gone on my cross-flashed PM model. I verified that fastboot still works when rolling back to Oreo. Lame.
I cannot for the life of me get any of the LG software on Windows to work with my LG G7 ThinQ Sprint (710PM). I chatted w/ LG support and they said that they don't support after 6.0 which I don't believe that is true.
MTP is enabled and the phone shows up in device manager as well as my pc. I cannot for the life figure it out! I've tried it on my desktop as well as both of my windows tab pros.

I saw your posts on Lg g7 thinq (lg710pm) to (g710ulm10g) thread, I'm wondering did you manage to get the ota or had to flash all over again using the LG 1.15 cmd method? Also did you roll back to Oreo using the same method?

I used LG UP 1.15 to update to Pie, and used the same to go back to Oreo.
I'm also not sure if fastboot is *supposed* to disappear when going to ULM Pie on a PM model, or if it disappeared because I goofed when I originally tried to flash using the patched LG UP 1.14, which promptly crashed while flashing and made my phone have the common "no serial number in the menu" issue (and who knows what else). It's possible the removal of the serial has caused some other issue, maybe? At least one user on the Telegram group has confirmed that when running the ULM firmware on the ULM hardware, fastboot is still available on Pie. That has not at all been the case for me, though.
In general, I think it's a good idea to just avoid the patched LG UP 1.14. I'd just wipe with 1.15 command line and deal with restoring after each update. 1.14 causes problems, and, in my experience, the upgrade option doesn't work anyway.

Not that I've seen. I can't root anymore because I can't get to fastboot to flash / boot a rooted boot image. Other than that, though, everything seems pretty much the same as it was on Oreo. No crashes or nasty battery drains that I've seen so far, though it's only been a couple days.
Not much difference between Oreo and Pie here.

Official Pie Update for SM-N950U?

Can someone send me the official link for the official stable Pie update? Cuz my phone which is Unlocked AT&T Note 8 has a problem updating.
When I go into settings>>software update>> it always says "Current software is up to date". Same thing happens when I use Samsung Smart Switch on Windows it says the same thing.
I would try to flash the .zip file on the stock recovery.
I would provide the other details below if you need cuz I'm unsure what update file should I use. Thanks!!
There are threads available to help you with that, just need to do a little bit of searching.

Affirmative!
When the August security update comes out for the U.S., will my Cricketwireless SIM allow me to get the AT&T update? Or, do I have to put an AT&T SIM in the phone. Could I just take the SIM out & connect to wifi instead?
Thanks.

Is anyone tried coloros on OnePlus 8 Verizon?

OnePlus 8 Verizon Bootloader is now unlockable. If anyone is installed Coloros on his op8 then please share you experience.
I'm doing it right now, for the fact. I'll attempt to install it and get back to you ASAP.
Update: Cellular data does not work for whatever reason. I'm pretty sure the Verizon variant just isn't compatible...

You can't even install it; I did exactly as the ColorOS guide suggested but the update still failed verification even though I was on the EU ROM. In any case, you won't be getting cellular data at all, likely because of the modem.img, and it's quite unoptimized.

I followed the conversion guide for the T - Mobile model that also works for the Verizon one. You also won't be getting cellular data if you switch to a global/ EU ROM. Other than that, it works fine.

I used the Android 11 one. We'll just have to wait until Verizon pushes the OOS 12 update (seems to be quite soon, as they recently released a security update).
