Peter Chou announces HTC Dev program so developers can make the most

Article link : http://www.pocketgamer.biz/r/PG.Biz/Uplinq/news.asp?c=30357
Kicking off day two of Uplinq, Qualcomm's developer conference, the keynote from HTC's CEO Peter Chou focused on the company's design philosophy.
"We focus on a holistic user experience, in terms of how people work and live and stay connected," Chou said.
"Which is why we put so much effort into HTC Sense - to make technology work for you."
Pointing to the importance of games, Chou introduced Steve Perlman, CEO of game streaming service Onlive, which has a strategic agreement with HTC.
Saying that he couldn't do a live demo of its streaming gameplay service, because of the amount of internet traffic at the conference, Perlman showed a video of the service running on the HTC Flyer tablet and the wireless Onlive controller to play Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
That vision thing
Agreeing with Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacob's opening keynote, Chou got a little visionary.
"The mobile revolution is putting a computer in every pocket," he said.
"Smartphones are bringing a new era, a new civilisation on a global scale, and it's happening very fast."
Big bang
Of course, as the CEO of public company, Chou had to mention some numbers. HTC sold 25 million smartphones in 2010; it's the fifth largest global phone brand.
In Q1 2011, it's already so 9.7 million smartphones, up almost three-fold.
Yet, even as an phone manufacturer, Chou was keen to point out that it was content developers who really push the market.
"We're entering a golden age of mobile development." he said.
"I like to see how people like you use these technologies to realise what is next. We want to drive what is next and that's mobile."
A helping hand
Building on this, Chou announced HTC Dev, a developers program that includes a web portal, SDK, documentation and source code, including 3D tech - something Gameloft has already used in its Spider-Man game.
HTC Dev will also include HTC OpenSense, so developers can integrate HTC's Sense UI within their applications.
The website (ww.htcdev.com) will go live in future weeks.

It is true that many of our troops die fighting for our nation, however they do not share the same recognition as the man who has significantly impacted technology, he might have influenced some of the tech soldiers use now. I'm not saying troops don't deserve the same attention, because they do but won't be getting it.
Must have hit him hard when Samsung fired back just now and sued Apple to slow down their release of the iphail4s overseas.
RIP Jobs

I guess I should make a thread for every soldier who is killed in action. Sure, Steve Jobs contributed alot to technology, and he might as well be the Thomas Edison of our time, but soldiers deserve much more respect.

I believe your anger is wrongly directed!! Coming from a military background and a military family I have mad respect for the soldiers that fight and die for this country!! But its still ok to give credit and respect where they are due!! After all this is a technology site?? And what about all the soldiers saved due to the technology and innovations made by this man and all the future soldiers that will be spared because of the foundations this man has set in technology!!
RIP Steve Jobs! Thank you for your contributions!!

We may not have liked Jobs because of the iPhone, but, IMHO, if it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have had Google to step it up and make Android what it is today.

Yea Steve and Bill are the founders of the PC era, regardless of their tactics. They have influenced the direction of almost everything technically related in this day and age. More importantly they produced strong competition and created a will to do better. They are, were, and forever will be my heroes.
On a lighter note, it was probably the release of the iPhone 4S that was the final nail in the coffin ("Where is the iFone [email protected]#").
Hehe. Thanks Steve. RIP.

Well I have some respect for him but your right, where is the love for the ones who sacrificed their lives so Apple can have a business.
I also don't think this is the place we should be talking about death.

Probably on a military-based website. This is a technology-based website where we discussing the death (and impact) of a death of one of its founders. Seems relevant.
Talking about dead military and those that died at war is not the topic and is what we should NOT be talking about as it is irrelevant. Neither is the topic of starving children or battered women or the economy... those have separate threads.

To all Apple users... (R.I.P. Steve Jobs)

Hello apple users, I have been an android person since I first got a major OS based phone, but the news of Steve Jobs' death hits me as if i was a part of apple. Jobs paved the way for computers, portable media, and the world of super powered touch screens to hit the market. He was an innovator, and a genius. (Personal note, I feel that they spat on the legacy of Steve Jobs by hiring boring Tim Cook to take over the company, I saw the iPhone 4S unveiling, worst unveiling ever, and I watch them everytime they had one. This one had NO WOW FACTOR, I was not impressed, but moving along...) Steve Jobs was the father of apple, and today, a child has been left on this Earth without his father. Android and Apple have had their back and forths, from which phone is faster all the way down to "Dude, you stole my UI! (SGS with the almost identical UI of an iPhone)" but any android user who says that Apple wasnt a pivotal point in the media/communications milestone is ignorant to say the least. I once again send my condolences out to Steve Jobs' family, the Apple corporation, and the legion of Apple/iPhone/iPod/MacBook users who are mourning his death. No one will do it like he did, and the love, compassion, and enthusiasm he had for the Apple Corporation!
May he Rest in Peace,
Ognimnella

The flag in Washington's District of Columbia has 3 red stars, each symbolizing a city state within the three city empire. The three city empire consists of Washington D.C., London, and Vatican City. London is the corporate center of the three city states and controls the world economically. Washington's District of Columbia city state is in charge of the military, and the Vatican offers spiritual guidance. The constitution of the district of Columbia operates under a tyrannical roman law known as lex fori, which in no way resembles the U.S. constitution.
When congress passed the act of 1871, it created a separate corporate government for the District of Columbia. This allowed the District of Columbia to operate as a corporation outside the constitution.
If you take a moment to study some signed treaties and charters between the United States and Britain, you will find that the United States has always been a British crowned Colony. In 1606, King James (yes, the King James who revised the bible) signed the charter of Virginia. The charter granted Americas British forefathers a license to settle and colonize America. The charter also guaranteed future kings and queens of England would have sovereign authority over all citizens and colonized land in America.
In 1783, the Paris peace treaty was signed. This treaty identifies the King of England as the prince of the United States contradicting the belief that America won the war of independence. And although King George III of England gave up most claims over his American colonies, he kept his right to continue receiving payments for his business ventures of colonizing America. If America won the war of independence, why would the agree to pay reparations to the king.
When the 13th amendment to the constitution was passed, the U.S. president was made subservient to the King of England. The 13th Amendment (the title of nobility amendment) forbids U.S. officials from using royal titles like king, or prince. For some strange reason though, the 13th amendment which was ratified in 1810 no longer appears in current copies of the U.S. constitution.
The war of independence against the British bankrupted America and turned its citizens into debt slaves of the king. In 1812, the British torched and burned the white house and all U.S. government buildings to the ground, destroying many ratification records of the U.S. constitution.
Then, nearly a century later, a corrupt U.S. congress committed the biggest theft in world history. They passed Paul Warburgs federal reserve act of 1913, handing over Americas gold and silver reserves (and total control of Americas economy) to the federal reserve bank. Most Americans still believe the FED is owned by the government, but it is not. The FED is a privately owned banking system whose majority class A shareholders include the Rothschild's, Warburgs, J.P. Morgan, the Rockefeller's and the Lehman brothers.
Most U.S. citizens believe the United States is a country and the president is its leader, but the U.S. is not a country, it is a corporation, and the president is not our leader, he is the president of the corporation of the U.S. The president, along his elected officials work for the corporation, not for the American People.

I've dedicated the greater portion of my prior-service life to true patriotism. To the poster above shortbus, Zeitgeist is old news, and a FRAUD. It makes some good points and observations, but it is wrought with factual obfuscation and misdirection.
For anyone who might be on the same level as I... they know we are here, they know we are awake, they know they must begin to take action to protect themselves from patriots. The trick on the battlefield has always been, to out-strategize the enemy. America has been classified as a battlefield by the government since the Patriot Act. Only recently have they begun publicly acknowledging it, and taking the necessary steps to creat controlled flashpoints.
I'll say it one more time....

[Patent Wars][REF] Here we go again Android

This thread is about all the challenges Android is going to face in time to come.
What has already been reported on XDA here
Whats taking place now
A patent troll funded by Apple, Microsoft, and a handful of other tech companies is suing Google and a number of its Android partners, including Samsung, HTC, Asustek, and LG.
The lawsuits were filed on Thursday by a tiny company called the Rockstar Consortium, as first reported by Reuters. Rockstar is a new breed of company. It’s jointly owned by five tech giants — Apple, Microsoft, Blackberry, Sony, and Ericsson — and it’s chartered with making back the $4.5 billion these companies pooled together to build its patent portfolio. source
(Reuters) - The group that owns thousands of former Nortel patents filed a barrage of patent lawsuits on Thursday against cell phone manufacturers including Google, the company it outbid in the Nortel bankruptcy auction. source

Google files lawsuit against Apple, Microsoft backed Rockstar patent group

Last Updated: Friday, December 27, 2013, 11:56
Washington: Google has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Apple and Microsoft backed consortium Rockstar, claiming that its patent campaign is unfairly targeting Google's Android partners and customers.
The search giant has alleged that Rockstar's litigation campaign is placing a cloud on Google's Android platform and threatened its sales of Nexus-branded Android devices.
According to Cnet, the lawsuit stated that among the companies included in Rockstar's patent dragnet are customers and partners of Google who use Android OS in their devices ASUS, HTC, Huawei, LG, Pantech, Samsung, and ZTE. In October, Rockstar filed suits against Google and other companies over a host of allegedly infringing patents.

Google Strikes Back Against Apple in Patent Wars
Since 2006, Samsung has ranked No. 2 after IBM in terms of the number of registered patents in the U.S. each year. The Korean electronics giant has around 100,000 patented technologies.
According to market researcher TechIPm, Samsung own 23 percent of the fourth-generation LTE technology patents registered in the U.S.
Google for its part dominates the global mobile OS market. More than 80 percent of smartphones sold around the world are equipped with the Android OS. Google has around 50,000 patents, but though it lags behind Samsung in terms of the sheer number, it is a behemoth in the field of software.
