Hello, read a lot of threads regarding lag during UI usage and especially keyboard and messaging, which i too experienced stock. My GS4 is now absolutely lag free, and underclocked too. Here is what i did...
Root phone (need this for some of the features on some apps)
Titanium Backup (need to freeze some apps)
disable S-Voice (i never used it; i always feel weird talking to or being talked to by a machine anyways)
disable Google Now (i never use it anyways; its a pain to get to and i dont use any of the social networking or news feeds either)
Disable TouchWiz Home
LagFix app (i have pro, mine is scheduled to run once a night)
If anyone cares, i will post my SetCPU settings as well, but on stock or even powersave it should run VERY quick. My phone is Korean, my GF's is Chinese; NEITHER has a bit of lag. I dont use any AT&T services, mobile print services, allshare/screen sharing, Google+/Facebook (or any social networks actually) so i have all of that disabled, but the main advantages come from disabling S Voice, Google Now, using LagFix app and TouchWiz Home
My Freeze list has other apps frozen you may not have, or i may have some frozen that i dont use but you do; they are all safe to freeze

Well first off thanks for all of your helpful input.
But this post and many others just beg a huge question to me.
"Why do you have a Samsung device if youre completely removing Samsung services?"
Even many Android ones for that matter
I just find it odd.
But regardless your tips are quite useful, though i wont use all of those.
Whats this lagfree app you speak of?

LagFix from Google Play Store.
I am NOT completely removing Samsung services, i only have the ones i dont use totally disabled. I use SmartStay all the time and Multiwindow sometimes, but i never use S Voice (or any voice recognition software; if i cant pay full attention to my phone without detriment i dont use it), and i dont use/like google now. I also dont use any social networks, S Health (which hasnt worked since i rooted), etc. Thats just me.
This is a 'safe to freeze' list, but freezing S Voice, TouchWiz Home, Easy Mode (home) and Google Now have a HUGE impact on reducing lag on stock ROM/Kernel. If you look, i disabled a LOT of Google apps too; i have physical books, and dont use google play to buy movies/tv shows/music; id rather buy and load them (automatically) myself so i can use them on more than one device.
i disabled everything i dont use, but S Voice and Google Now made the greatest impact on lag; Its totally gone. I dont like to have any processes ill never use running or visible; i prefer a very simple clean interface and list of apps; again thats me.
Basically, the best of stock android with the samsung add-ons i like and use is all that i want, and not a kilobyte more.

ah ok. That makes a little more sense. Wel when i get my 32 gig (hopefully by friday) i think ill try freezing Svoice. I do enjoy Google Now though. its pretty neat. But i agree with you on Svoice. I wouldnt have thought it would make an impact. But ill take your word on it haha

Interesting info but I never notice an increase in lag when I turn Google Now on. I disable(haven't rooted0 most of the apps you freeze including S Voice, run Nova Launcher over Touchwiz and have never had a problem with lag on this phone.

Google Now is the least lag-adding; its negligible. S Voice, TouchWiz Home, and EasyMode/Home are the worst for it. Why they create so much lag i dont know, i dont use them, so therefor i dont care. I have a Korean S4, my GF has a Chinese S4; neither of us have lag after we disabled those three.
I run WAY underclocked; with SetCPU, 384 minimum, 1242 max Mhz. Slight lag coming out of deep sleep/idle for a long time, but ZERO lag in messaging with stock or GoSMSpro, and no problems with high end games (dont play them, just wanted to see if underclocking would create issues/crashes. they dont).
Like i said, if you disable all the things you dont/wont use, it will help. There is a LOT i dont use, but S Voice/TouchWiz/EasyMode made the biggest difference; more than everything else combined.

Mine doesn't lag as well. Damn got the faulty batch. Also, I froze all the ATT crap but I still have some Samsung apps like S-health, watch on and stuff. I also froze google apps like Google books, music etc as I noticed Google music was always running. Don't know about lag but it also helps with battery....

First thing I did was run stock deodexed. Turned S Voice off from home button and turned the animator scales to 0.5x. Its very fast lol.

Thanks OP. That home button thing really sped things up.
On a side note just a heads up to anyone going on a freezing spree. I noticed when I froze Samsung syncadapters 2.5.6 I was not able to send mms pics anymore.

I received my AT&T SGH-I337 yesterday, I can’t believe how lag it is, I’m comparing it with an S3, and it’s totally worst, I spec that disabling this thing helps. thx.

A working package disabler?

Anyone managed to find a working safe package disabler? I feel all this bloatware is whats really killing my battery even tho I disabled &got rid of what I could. And even turned off the features I wouldn't be using that constantly drain. But I think the processes are still running for example the fingerprint process which I refuse to even use. I'd love to root but I think the tmobile s7 has been done yet.

It works without root, it just doesn't remove them and instead only disables.

The built in one (under applications, DIsable) works fine and uninstalls all the updates so you regain any memory you've lost. I've disabled several including Lookout and and T-Mobile NameID and TV.

It should be noted, that NO, THE BUILT IN ONE does not work fine, and while you mentioned the other tmobile apps, you (probably intentionally) didn't mention the terrible, disable-proof, insulting, MEMORY INTENSIVE harassment of code that is the pointless T mobile "my account" app, with its system monitoring, and permanent notifications you have to jump through hoops to disable.
The fact that I have 200 MORE Samsung apps that I'm forced to run than my vanilla android counter parts is almost as insulting as the fact that Facebook, (and messenger), whatsapp, 5 pointless t mobile apps (2 of which are trials for premium paid features) are considered equally important and can't be uninstalled.
Thats purely asinine, and the watered down built in version does nothing about the services or dependent processes (aka battery consumption and everything else)
The T mobile hidden package "com.tmobile.pr.adapt" is so invasive that it quietly asks for root, the SECOND it detects the binary and DOES SO AGAIN AND AGAIN, OVER AND OVER without us ever getting an explanation...now it even shows up in marshmallow with data usage access... the only reason we know it even exists, or wants root, is supersu pops up, as our battery bottoms out...
Now, package disabler pro is gone from the store..oh wait...is it? Or is it just gone for Samsung devices? Or maybe just T Mobile, Samsung devices? Hrrmmm
No. The built in watered down version which doesn't help us with a package like tmobile.pr.adapt or let us disable every single thing we choose to, is simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

It's only gone for certain devices...

My Account is not enabled on my S7 unless I start it up myself. The com.tmobile.pr.adapt is enabled but if you disable Diagnostics under App Settings in T-Mobile for me it uses very little data, 14mb in almost a month for me, and T-Mo claims that the usage is not charged to you. You are correct you cannot stop it with the default application manager, but it will not show up in the task bar unless you manually start it.
I'm not going to get into root issues, my phone is on the Jump on Demand so I'm planning to trade up every few months and yeah root is nice but for the most part unless you are a dev (I am not) you shouldn't need it. I'd love to have my copy of Root Explorer and Titanium Backup work (for restores) but can get along without it. If I really needed that stuff I wouldn't have given up my Sony Xperia Z Ultra which was running CM to go to a new unrooted platform.

I have been using EZ package disabler since I got my S7 Edge and I am happy with it. Unfortunately, when the software update came, with too much excitement, I forgot to enable all disabled apps prior to updating the firmware. I have updated the firmware with apps disabled. What problem should I be facing? What should I do? Currently I am not experiencing any problems but I suspect that the disabled apps where not optimized. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

You can still find package disabler pro. Won't post the link because forum rules but Google is your best friend. I have it in my SD card.

att variant with cricket sim, i just did disable all bloatware option in the app itself and i have no issues

Rather than a bunch of XML files from people that think it works FOR THEM, we need one big list of the packages WITH EXPLANATIONS as to what exactly they do, and any dependencies they may have that could break other stuff. Without that its all a waste of time. I've seen several threads like this now but not one was of any use at all because its just people posting an xml saying 'look at me i disabled 94 packages", which means nothing to anyone else who might need some of the stuff they disabled, or might not even have some of the stuff they disabled if its carrier specific.
I have no issue going down the list on my phone one at a time to see if it needs disabling, the problem is for a lot of them, I have no clue what they do, and googling them using the link form within the app didnt help at all. I am not going to disable something unless i know exactly what it does, I don't want to find out in 3 months time that something isnt working and spend forever trying to figure out why, at least if i know what each disabled thing does then i will remember that i had turned it off, i can refer back to the notes on what each one does and turn that one back on.

so all this has been went over in the s7 forum multiple times if you do a Google search the info pops up everywhere. it will be the same for s8 since they are both on 7.0. Also debloat lists are different for everyone you may use something I don't...but there are plenty of safe apps to remove lists. Side note package disabler auto debloat has about 3 to 5 things you shouldn't turn off like the enterprise stuff and a couple others.

I also did disable all bloatware. However, I noticed it misses a lot of crapware on the phone. I ended up disabling another 30 or so myself. I'm sure I missed some and when I ha e time I will continue. I don't disable anything without knowing exactly what it is so it's very slow work

I'll try to make a list in the next day or so but first I used the disable all bloatware feature. Then I added about 30 more myself. As the disable all bloatware disables roughly 70 general bloatware processes/apps

Disabling all bloatware also disables some apps/services that some wouldn't consider, like certain camera modes.

Hello Gang! I just wanted to point out a couple of my findings from my note 7/note 5 when using package disablers..
They can do more harm then good. Especially when disabling system APKS. Over time I would notice I was losing space because some aps were just creating error logs over and over and over.. Or trying to access apps over and over that have been disabled.
The best way to do things is to go into app manager and disable the bloatware ONLY. This is facebook,NFL, verizon apps, etc. Do not disable anything system related other then the updates if you want to stop getting updates but even then I believe that might cause some issues. I have currently used package disabler to disable ONLY the "samsung update" apks and manaully disabled or removed the bloatware from verizon via app manager and have been going a week strong with 0 issues that everyone else seems to have and over 170+ apps installed and enabled.
I have done EXTENSIVE testing on this matter. You can search the note 7 and note 5 verizon forums if you wish to check my creds =D

Just be careful. We found out with the S7 that disabling certain packages actually caused an increase in battery drain. What happens is that a certain process keeps pinging another process over and over again because it's not getting an answer in return.
I would recommend disabling 5 packages at a time and see what kind of effect it has on things.

Could you tell me where to look for error logs to see if this is happening? That sounds like it could cause major battery drain.

If you click disable all bloat ware it disable the external media package which then makes it where you cannot access your sd card

You cant jus blindly disabled the stuff that package disabler has classed as bloatware and coloured pink because some of it is CLEARLY not bloatware and a lotof the bloatware is not even coloured pink.
What we need to know (still) is what ones are safe to disable, and what ones are NOT safe to disable. There are 4 ANT services it has coloured pink, i am not sure what they are but stuff to do with antennas doesnt sound like bloatware to me? I disabled them anyway and not noticed anything bad. I left all the knox stuff enabled because i use Secure Folder and I expect it needs all the knox stuff to work.
I have disabled things like DEX, bixby, S Health, anything to do with Edge stuff, blue light filter which i dont need, carmode stub (for some drivelink car thing that i dont have), the clock, "CNN for edge panel" which is obviously bloat but isnt even coloured pink, enterprise sim pin services, enterprise vpn servcices, epdgtestapp, anything to do with Gear VR, google play music, gooogle play movies and tv, nfc service, photos, professional audio. and the obvious bloatware like excel etc.

I have currently used package disabler to disable ONLY the "samsung update" apks and manaully disabled or removed the bloatware from verizon via app manager and have been going a week strong with 0 issues that everyone else seems to have and over 170+ apps installed and enabled.
I have done EXTENSIVE testing on this matter. You can search the note 7 and note 5 verizon forums if you wish to check my creds =D

This is dead on. Unless you know exactly what dependancies the app is that you are using package disabler depends on, you are going to do a lot more harm than good. This phone sleeps apps not used after a few days and the rest you need to be very careful with killing, because the phone could check for the app or an app that depends on it could check over and over and over, causing slowdowns, powerloss etc.

I have a carrier Note 20 Ultra (T-Mobile), so I don't think I can like ever root or anything. Wondering what the next best thing is? Any cool APKs? Is unlocked firmware worth flashing or will I lose carrier services?

Without root you can still use substratum to theme your phone.

It wasn't working on my Note 10+ and had to change Package Disabler Pro. Someone on the forum has said that CCSWE is back and working.

AT&T 10+, tried it but get a can't verify Knox message.

Nova Launcher still one of the best around, imo. Have been using it for several years across many devices.

I'm using Package Disabler Pro, a member of this forum said he's using it on the Note 20 Ultra. As I said it wasn't working on my Note 10+. Just downloaded and verified working on the Note 20 Ultra.

This is my current set up (see, import xml attachment*). I'm using the PD widget to flip Playstore and a few other checked apps on as needed.
Of course you can block many I don't have blocked.
Just don't get stupid about it. Probably best not to block One UI... Goggle and try to learn/understand what you're blocking.
Know that some apks are dependent on others, that by blocking an apk it can cause constant polling that sucks cpu cycles and battery as other apks try to communicate with the missing one.
So just blocking the hell out of everything doesn't necessarily mean better battery life. Bloatware and 3red party aapps are generally exempt from this effect; system apps watch more carefully if blocked.
Note that I block AT&T updates like the plague; don't want it forcing updates and it's constantly running with every permission under the sun.
If something goes wrong and you get the flashing kernel of death you'll need to disable PD as Administrator fast. Know how to get there blindfolded, ha-ha fast mind and fingers count when the screen warning is flashing.
PD runs in Safe Mode so forget that.
The current version is very stable on Pie; no issues.
I've never had to do a hard reset using package blockers but using a rock solid one is important as it can raise hell if it goes rogue.
Weeeee-e-e fun times... too fun.
Use PD MDM to clear data; it leaves no nulls (presumably).
Clearing app data in Settings apparently doesn't always; enough so to leave the data corrupted in some cases. I've seen this happen.
PD can fix apks by clearing data that otherwise wouldn't be possible like with smaller unistallible system apks.
It's a great tool to use for troubleshooting and system repair. It can save you from a reload.
I love this app; my 10+ be a complete mess without it.
It's the first app I load on a reload.

Note: if you do a carrier update it's best to disable PD completely. I've done flashes with it enable with no apparent harm but this isn't a good idea. Apps seem to update ok on Playstore even when blocked.
*you can create multiple backups with different configurations and use that history of them to troubleshoot etc. Make sure to save copies to the SD card, email it to yourself or on the PC... saves time.

Check again after a few days.... Btfery drain is always worse after a factory reset or on a new phone as Android learns your usage Patterns

I have a 10+ running on Pie.
It took me months to sort out excessive battery usage. If your phone is running warm at idle you need to track down the causes. I use PD MDM package blocker which helps a lot if used wisely. A lot of junk that needs to be disable in settins too. My nominal battery usage screen off, plain jane AOD on is 1% an hour. Surfing the web, watching a vid is about 10% an hour. Your device probably uses more though even when optimized not sure though.
In Samsung Device Care, use factory load if it is the one with 360 degrees on it. Do not update.
•In Device Care punch Optimize for power/screen setting.
•Toggle on fast charging and -nothing- else. (see image)
You can then package block this app.
•This configuration will also keep power management from unwantedly killing apps in use like Poweramp. All other unused apps should go into standby mode when not in use or screen off... without power management options being toggled!
Use no 3rd party power management and for now don't toggle any apps to sleep.
•In Developer options>stand by apps, all buckets should show as active, if not unwanted power management is active.
Let the base Google default settings handle power management. Enabling advanced power management appears to cause conflicts leading to excessive CPU/battery usage.
•Any cloud app will steal power and bandwidth, Google Backup Transport and Goggle Services Framework are prime offenders.
•Disable all carrier, Samsung, Google etc diagnostic feedback as well as carrier updates and Playstore.
Enable as needed.
•Use Samsung Gallaxy Labs Battery Tracker to help track usage.
Framework will still show usage with AOD is active about 1% @ hour when blocked. It should be well below 1% when phone is active.
I've posted more detailed info in the 10+ forum.
Each phone configuration varies so try these suggestions, what works for me may or may not work for you.
Get a package disabler and start locking it down... play with it.

Which app are you referring to? Is it Package Disabler Pro? Searching "PD MDM" brings up a whole load of different PD apps on the Play Store.

They aren't on Playstore. You have to look a little or know about them.
Been using it for at least 3 years probably longer. Very stable. A great tool for non-rooted Samsungs.

Thanks for link. It's weird though, as the app made by Policedeveloper on the Play Store has the same UI and same name, they also use identical screenshots with an old Samsung phone model! I wonder if they are the same developer or one has copied the other.
I was using the one on the Play Store but it did break after upgrading to Android 10. I am considering buying the app you recommend but don't want to get burned again. I know its not a lot of money but I don't want to be sold a lemon!

Don't know who stole what but know I'll never use anything from Policedeveloper again. Trashware.
Didn't appreciate their lame attitude when I emailed them either.
I've used PD MDM on Kitkat and Pie. Lol, no plans to jam Q into my 10+ though; it's running stable and fast.
I was apprehensive at first too, but they have consistently given me a quality app.
If they say it's compatible you should be good to go.

In Google Play Services>app permissions, disable all to get Google Transport Framework from using excessive battery. Google Transport Framework and Google Transport are package blocked as well. The former is the last step to shut these power sucking background apks down. So far I haven't lost any functionality I use.
Took me a year to track all of these down. Ha!
Should be 94 blocked apks, may have lost some in the confusion of manipulating the list.
Some of the blocked apks I've enabled the widget toogle to turn them off/on like Playstore.
•I'm running a 10+ on Pie... no idea how the Fold on Q will respond to this list but probably similarly.
•This list is customized for my set up and circumstances; each user's needs are different.
Best practice is to formulate your own list... the hard way. That way you'll learn what the apks you're blocking do and how the apks interact/their dependencies.
