OnePlus 7 pro 5G dual SIM, but not active? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hey all, as from today I'm a OnePlus 7 pro 5G owner... With a bit of a downfall.
Before I bought the phone I made a bit of research about this device to see capabilities and if it's worth the money.
As I know this device is dual SIM from factory and I was expecting my op7pro 5g to be the same... and it is in a way, but has no functionality of dual SIM phone.
When I've pulled the SIM tray out I could see inside the phone on both sides of SIM tray has SIM pins to make contact to the SIM, so I've made one of the SIMs to fit in the tray because is not a dual SIM one, but you can adjust the SIM card to fit there.. and I know it's not the SIM faulty because I've tried it on and works.
Any idea how to make it work dual SIM... I have to specify it's on a contract from EE UK.
Please give me some ideas, I know to all the stuff with ADB so I'm not afraid to use it ?.

If the phone came from EE instead of OnePlus directly, then it might be subsidized (payments) through the carrier. If it is not unlocked (cannot unlock the bootloader), then you probably won't be able to fix it.
Here in the States (USA), TMobiles OP7 Pro is locked and the second sim disabled. But you can fix that by unlocking the phone and flashing the International Rom to unlock the second sim slot (second slot is software locked, not hardware locked), allowing dual SIM if you can get your hands on another sim tray with the dual slots.
Don't know if this is the same for you, but it is worth looking into if your carrier does lock the phones down and allows them to be unlocked.

It's not dual SIM as it's a limitation of the 5g modem

The 7 Pro 5G IS dual SIM capable. It has 2 modems. The Qualcomm X50 5G modem and the modem built into the SOC for 4G. It's the firmware that's restricting dual SIM functionality. If you wish, you can convert to the international variant but you WILL lose 5G connectivity (if you have it).

yes I own the Oneplus 7 Pro and that sim tray is the exact same one that goes into the OP7T Pro Mclaren.
I have t-mobile and i bought my sim card slots from amazon for both the OP 6T and OP 7 Pro. I was able to successfully convert each of those phones using msmtool. But the damn OP7T Pro Mclaren 5G from t-mobile I can't find a solution.
I have the Oneplus 7t Pro Mclaren 5G Edition and all I want is to activate dual sim. At this point I don't even care if 5G works. I would sacrifice it if there was some way to install OP7T Pro onto the OP7T PRo Mclaren.

sure, which phone? the 6T or 7 Pro?

Can I confirm that you tried using a OP7Pro international firmware via MSMTool on your OP7PRO5G? Did you ever fix the issue?
I'm just trying to workout if using a OP7Pro international firmware makes it work as a dual 4g sim (I really dont care about the 5G)
FyI I have a OP7PRO5G(EU)
I tried to use msmtool to make it a op7pro international (was a fail or I wasn't doing something right....I get "Param pre-processing") Can someone please advise me.

5g version dual SIM?

Anyone know if the 5g version is dual SIM... Two different people say two different things. If I pay to get a dual SIM tray from eBay...
Regards
The 5G version, which is currently only sold by EE, is not dual-SIM. It can be flashed to the dual-SIM international firmware but you lose the ability to use 5G by doing so. You would also need to replace the single-SIM tray with a dual-SIM tray.
The international firmware has no firmware, drivers, etc. to run the 5G X50 modem. Unfortunately, that is only contained within the 5G firmware.

Is this something that can possibly be fixed software-wise in the future?
I wanted to get the oneplus 5g but I needed dual sim as well (plus the relatively worse support as updates have not yet been seeded to Oneplus 5g unlike the non-5g versions) - sounds like EE and OnePlus bamboozled consumers with a more expensive but poorly-supported 5G version

You can restore the original firmware to restore 4G, but you will lose dual-SIM. However, you could try flashing just the OTA on the %G to see if it leaves the 5G enabled while enabling dual-SIM. I haven't seen anyone doing this specifically on the 5G model but flashing the International US OTA on the T-Mobile stock firmware leaves you with a T-Mobile dual-SIM hybrid.
Hi, how did you get on with this as I was considering the 5G, but like others didn't want to lose dual SIM?
I have ordered dual SIM tray to give it a go as was told by rep at OnePlus the 5g does support dual SIM it's set to single sim at ee request ?
Please update when you receive it.
I've made one of the SIMs to fit in the tray without buying a dual SIM tray and it's not dual SIM capable. So I think it's the EE firmware to be blamed for single SIM use....?

The activation of the dual SIM facility will be in the firmware. The 5G version has two modems the x50 for 5G and the soc 855 built in 4g modem. Until EE/ OnePlus releases this and the Wizards on xda find what's blocking the function,we are batting blind!

The dual-SIM hardware is there. If you flash one of the international firmware versions, you will enable dual-SIM, but at the cost of losing 5G. You only have 5G with the 5G firmware, because that firmware is the only one that contains the X50 modem support.
what firmware will work on my op7 pro 5g as i want dual sim not bothered about 5g
Sorry to bump an old thread. But any idea what firmware I'd flash on the European (EE) variant in order to enable dual-sim?

Flashing the Global firmware would, but you will lose 5G. There is no dual-SIM 5G official firmware.

This is incorrect, there is no way to enable dual SIM on the GM1920 or GM1925. This would require a modem.img with the SDX50 dsds configs, which we don't have.
you can however the flash the European 10 update on to the Sprint model, there are issues with Sprint data, but non Sprint carriers work fine.

The only difference between the 5G and non-5G models is the add-on modem. All devices have the dual-SIM slot, just the SIM tray needs to be swapped if the firmware is changed. The global firmware does not have anything to run the 5G modem, meaning it won't work, but 4G will. Whether flashing the Global, EU, or another firmware, only changes the bands and carrier support. Clearly you didn't fully read my post before saying it is incorrect.

Clearly you dont own one and havent tried, or you'd know it doesn't work.
I have.
I'm well aware the hardware is there for dual sims, but we have not found a way to enable it, the non-5G firmware WILL NOT BOOT FULLY when flashed via dd and fastboot and we have no way of using an msm to see if the result is any different... I've worked closely with the "guac for all" devs on this matter...
If you're actually interested in knowing more or think you can get it to work somehow, pm me and id be happy to brainstorm with you.
But myself and a group of others havent been able to enable DSDS, it's not just as simple as you are implying it to be if it is possible at all.

Dual SIM

I'm looking to buy a new active dual sim phone. OnePlus is my first option, but I can't find any solid answer if OnePlus 8 has active dual sim capability in the US. I had a 6 and a 7 Pro and both had active dual sim. Did that change with the 8? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Single SIM slot here: OnePlus 8 IN2015
Dual sim working here. IN2013.
They claim it will be enabled in a future update, its been nearly 4 months. There is absolutely no reason for this in general and if there is a method to bypass this, i'd love to know. Bought it right from oneplus too.
i have in2010 chinese model dual sim does work in 4g however when i enable 5g it won't work until i disable sim2 and it only work in sim1 sadly
Thank you all for the replies. Much appreciated!

Can I get 5G if 2 SIM inside the phone

Hi guys I have Note20 Ultra 5G Snapdragon version SM-N9860
And the 5G is working fine in the slot 2 but if I add another SIM in slot 1 the 5G disappear is there any way to make the 5G working if I am using 2 SIM in the same time
By the way
The exynos phones can do it without problem my brother using S20 Ultra and I tried to put 2 SIM inside the phone and I get 5G without any problem
make sim in slot 2 default sim for data/calls/sms
or whichever slot has 5g sim in it
Guess it's a Snapdragon thing since OP 8 Pro wouldn't let me use 5G while 2 SIM cards were active. Android 11 should bring support for it.
Like you said, Exynos allows it already.

Ah, yeah, that's the carriers behind that - cuts into their roaming business. Same here in Canada - which is why I ordered the SM-N9860. I have an SM-G9650 (LATAM S9+ DS) now, and can't see myself ever going back to single SIM.

Not necessarily - for example, there is still some question as to whether we can get 5G to work or not (it only has three 5G bands). That doesn't matter so much to me though - it has all the 4G bands I need, and it is Snapdragon, dual-SIM with 256GB of storage. You'd have to compare the bands it has to what you want/need for your carrier. There's a whole thread on it here if you want to check it out.

I ordered mine from PDAPlaza up here in Montreal - but there are several sellers on EBay, and the European guys got theirs from a distributor called Wondamobile. Your best bet is probably EBay, but there are lots of sources for these gray-market phones. Bear in mind it won't have a warranty in the US however - you'd have to go through the seller for warranty service.

No to both questions?
No, you can't add bands. And I know you've said you need dual sim, but I just don't think you'll get optimal network coverage unless you have the IN2015 or the T-Mobile variant ... which I think are only single sim.

I see. I was asking because a had bought a IN2013, but they sent an IN2017 instead. They apologized, but they also told me that if I flashed the global ROM the dual sim functionality would be activated since IN2013 nd IN2017 are the same hardware.
I ended up returning the phone, but I figured it could be a possibility if the vendor is correct about that.

They are you can flash it to the global firmware and get a dual SIM tray for it. The T-Mobile is the same as the unlocked variant here in America from what I understand. The only difference is updates, the SIM tray, and it's officially IP rated.

well thats rather naughty isnt it!! I always liked Xiaomi on my second phone but this will make me think twice about buying their products now!
In the instruction manual it is also written that with an update they would have added the dualsim with a sim in 5G but have not yet done so after a year. It's a shame, I will never buy a Xiaomi smartphone again!

I have two sims in the Poco F2 Pro and I am using xiaomi.eu
I use the second sim for data and the second sim gives me 5G among the preferred networks while the first sim does not.
So I think 5G is usable among the preferred networks based on which sim you use for the data.
