Front Camera taking mirrored photos. How to fix? - ASUS ZenFone 6 (2019) Questions & Answers

Just got the phone 5 hours ago. It's amazing but there's one problem... The front camera is taking mirror photos and I can't find the option to disable it. Is this just the problem with my device or is everyone else facing it?a Also, is there a fix?
Thought I'd use Gcam mod but even photos there are mirrored for front camera
How to deal with this situation?

Open stock camera app-> switch to front camera-> tap setting-> search for option "Save as mirrored photo".

S7 portrait mode app

Hi Guys,
Which is the best and stable camera app to be used for portrait mode in the S7? And can it be used with the front camera? I tried many but they all crash every now and then.
Thanks
You can use selective focus mode on stock camera app. It produces portrait-like photos (back camera only) but the downside to me is the size. The image will be about 20MB in size but if you edit it again using any photo editor app it will decrease. IMO the stock selective focus mode is better and faster than lens blur on Google Camera.

Yes it is good but like 90% of the times it will say that subject not detected. And the size for me is normal like 4-5mb per photo. Any other modded/ported camera app for the S7 for this purpose? And can it be used with the front camera?
You can check the @miniuser123 version of the Gcam app. I think it's the best (far away) portrait mode for us.
Better than our cam but still don't work the face cam.
If you wanna try, here's the link:

Thanks. This is what I have selected-
Model: Nexus 6 Shamu Moto
Portrait mode on all models: on
camera.af.debug.show: where is this setting?
camera.faceboxes: where is this setting?
The app crashes if I select the first icon in the app.

Set somethings:
- Don't change the HDR parameters. Set it to default.
- Unmark the "Use Nexus6 HDRPlus Auto"
- Mark "Compress RAW (*.DNG)
- Mark "Portrait Mode in all models"
- Unmark "Smartburst Enable"
The "camera.af.debug.show" and the "camera.faceboxes" are in Settings>Developer Settings. But these are optional.
Hope I helped
*EDIT - check and follow the thread (here in XDA) about HDR+ for S7. The better place for try new cam apps and discuss about that

Using the app that I told you, the quality of portrait pics is amazing!
Unfortunately the HDR+ is not good at all, but some versions you can get more of this feature.

This is a problem with the image processing (the heating and the battery drain). Some people says the cause is the app use all cores for processing the image (HDR+ and portrait)
Anyway, there's a new version with front camera working with portrait.

Thanks!! The settings is a bit different but I only changed the model to Nexus 6 and everything is ok. It's still crashed when I switch back to rear camera from front cam while in portrait mode. But portrait mode is still only available on the rear camera, right? Because it's not working on front cam.
Oh right, actually the heating was only a couple times after installing. Now it doesn't heat anymore.

Oh, no. This version that I sent works the rear and front camera in portrait mode. Using without the portrait the front camera is terrible.
And even at portrait, the front camera has a bug with high exposure changing the color to something like pink exposure.
I attached my settings. Remember to close and reopen the app totally for apply.

Changing the model to pixel 2 xl did enable portrait on the selfie but yeah it got some pink on high exposure. But the result was still great. Without portrait the front cam is blurry and the edge was too much sharpened. It's terrible.
Also, is HDR+ enabled by default? There's no HDR+ setting on the top row but there's some sort of delay (like when applying HDR) when I take pictures so I thought it's still there. The photos taken with rear camera is also better now I guess.

Yeah, this version is near to perfect.
I never, anymore, take pics o' people without rear portrait camera -hahaha
The delay is borring but minimal. You can take a lot of pics and check them later. You don't need to wait between the shots.
If you wanna HDR+ setting, go to: settings>advance>check the option: manual HDR+ control (my app isn't in english, but is something like that)
*You can't increase the HDR+ parameters
**Just a obs- my app crashed sometimes at older version (I didn't try the newer properly) and my app didn't take pics. If it happen, just "force stop" and it back.

Btw i was checking on the source thread and found that there's a newer version uploaded early today. This version fixed the pink stain and the HDR menu is back on the top row. I think this is much stable since there's no heating or crashing at all.

Yes there is

[Guide] Take Portrait Mode Image (Not Lens Blur)

Finally We can now capture portrait mode images without any tweak or root.
We can take it by using Instagram's focus camera format.
To access the feature, simply swipe right on your Instagram feed to open the story camera. From here, swipe along the bottom camera format selector until you see "Focus." Instagram then directs you how to take a portrait shot with either a "Find a face" or "Move closer" alert. You can tap the arrows in the bottom-right corner to switch between your cameras. And yes you can save it to your sd card.

Daily driver Gcam for whyred!!!

I had installed pixel experience rom on my whyred and was wondering to get fully stable Gcam on it to get complete pixel rom on my whyred, then tried with BSG's gcam but it offers limited features so I turned to find a stable Gcam with almost all features and came across this Gcam mod : MGC_5.3.015_v.1.0.5_Tolyan009.
It can be used as daily driver as it almost fully stable.
What's Working in it.
1.Slow mo.
2.Portrait.
3.Google lens.
4.Video at 1080p 60 fps
<auto focus working with video stabilization>
5.photo sphere.
6.panorama.
Problems with this:
1.lens blur is bit choppy and is advised not to use it.
2.Run and use this as it is with default settings change in settings may results in app blunders.
3.there is 4k uhd option but it's not working.
THIS MOD IS TESTED ONLY ON PIXEL EXPERIENCE ROM.
YOU CAN USE ON MIUI BUT I AM NOT SURE IF IT WORKS.

For this to work make Gcam as default camera app.
Everything is working fine in my phone after making it default app and disabling snapdragon camera app.
If it still not works try clearing data and rebooting phone.

Dude I just checked. Selfies are getting flipped after clicking the picture.
Like in stock camera, selfies look like when you are about to click the picture.
But one problem I found in all gcam apps is after clicking the picture, selfies don't look like just before clicking. They are flipped sideways.

On lineage front camera works
I just tried this with the new RR 7 (RR-P-v7.0.0-20190203-whyred-Official) and it works fine.
⌐At first the images were monochrome for some reason, switched config HDR+ to pixel 1 and the images came out normal and with HDR+. Turning it back to pixel 2 after a while
and magically nothing changed. Images were still in color.
⌐There are a few random bugs like the ones in OP and some others like there being 2 lens blur mode options.

Pixel 3 Camera APK (works on Pixel 2)

Not taking any credit for this. I initially found it posted on reddit and was surprised to not see it here yet..
Here is the link to the Pixel 3 Camera APK.:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/camera/camera-6-1-009-215420794-release/
I can confirm it works on my Pixel 2. No rooting required. Just install. Updates existing camera app.
Thanks for sharing!
great, confirm working on my pixel 2, no root, updated my pixel cam app.
I found if "Pixel 2 Blurry Panorama Fix" magisk module was installed and enabled, this new camera apk would force close.

"Portrait mode lets you take leica-style photos with beautification and bokeh effects".
So just use portrait mode.

The option for choosing to activate or deactivate Bokeh effect is missing, but is activated. I can not deactivate it.
Sometimes I do not want bokeh, especially when I take pictures to flowers, I want all the flowers to be seen. But, only in the area where the image is focused, is clear. On the margins, is with bokeh effect.
