Downgrade G930U Oreo to Nougat - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Is there any way to downgrade S7 Oreo to Nougat

Unfortunately, no. Snapdragon has a locked bootloader, which prevents downgrading. Even Exynos has a stricter bootloader now that prevents a complete downgrade.

So what happens if I restore a Nougat TWRP backup, after I flash the right TWRP version for N? I'm on Oreo now.

It won't rollback the bootloader, which can break things like the notification light and vibration.

A9 Back to stock -> question about returning to Android Pay and eventually Nougat

I've a device that is S-ON , TWRP 3.0.2-0 recovery installed , unlocked USA. Was running CM13 and later a lineage build...i just wiped/ reflashed the stock boot and system image so i've got things more or less back to original. All's good. However my bootloader remains unlocked. Do i need to relock it to get Android Pay working again? I was able to add a card, but have not tested it in the real world yet. My understanding is locking the bootloader will erase my data. Given I'd like to try that Nougat flavor and I don't think that will come OTA with an unlocked bootloader, maybe now's the time sense I think i'll have to flash that manually
Sorry, still new to joy of working with these devices. Fun tho

No, if Android pay has a problem, it will reject you DURING the process of adding a card, if you add a card sucussfully, your good to go.
If you want to try nougat, please note that that change is irreversible. The firmware is non-downgradeable. I don't think locking the bootloader will erase data, but if it does it PROBABLY will warn you.

Thanks for all that...just to be clear, the only way to get Nougat is to flash it ? or is it also OTA?

It is an OTA, you can have s-on, but you can't have an unlocked bootloader, root, or system modifications if any kind.

Sorry I have a question, I have an A9 (European model) S-ON with CM 14.1 and I would like to get S-OFF in order to back to stock. The problem is that I have read that Sunshine only works with stock ROM and, out of the box, my phone came with vodafone uk ROM and I can't find, on the internet, the exact same ROM as mine ( I have found an older version but because I have S-ON I can't downgrade ). There is another way to make Sunshine works? Thanks in advance

Good, I think you can download the ota and sideload it, should be in one of the general threads. Think it's called any news on 7.0
So, after all this, i had Android Pay (AP) working great w/ 1.57.617.60 flashed back to my phone. I never re-locked my bootloader. This a.m. i flashed nougat, both boot and system (RUU_HIA_AERO_UL_N70_SENSE80GP_ATT_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_2.18.617.1) - All's great. However while shopping i was rejected by AP with the message in the attached screen shot. Is this because i never re-locked the bootloader? What are the consequences by doing so? Can I eventually re-unlock for future flashing?
NOTE - my device is not rooted, despite the accusations from the modal!

In nougat, it checks for unlocked bootloaders sadly you can't relock bootloader in nougat.

oh no...really? no 'fastboot oem lock'? crap. Perhaps the "upgrade" was a mistake. So i'm without?

Yep, looks like it unless you downgrade and relock bootloader, then upgrade back to nougat

My goal was keep su and also get nougat. A9 has the bug about OEM unlocking just like all other 7.0 devices. It will most likely get fixed at 7.1.1, the nexuses and all other devices running 7.0 seem to have this "bug"

ahh, so that means, as i understand it, if all goes to plan, we should one day expect a 7.1.1 update that will allow me to finally get back to AP?

As long as you don't care about root. You can always downgrade to mm, lock, and OTA back to nougat

No, you can only UNLOCK in nougat. If you want to relock the bootloader, you will have to downgrade to marshmallow and loose your root, or wait for Android 7.1.1
downgrade means i have to wipe data, right? The upgrade that was not the case. I am only assuming

Completely Reset Honor Phone

Hi All, I currently have an Honor 8 that was previously bootloader unlocked and rooted with TWRP installed on EMUI 4. After I updated to EMUI 5 and Android 7.0, my bootloader was relocked, even though it says my phone is unlocked and untrusted when I turn it on, and I cannot install or access TWRP. I would like to completely reset my phone and reinstall the OS with the recent update, but I have no idea how. How can I do this?
Thanks!
Rommco05 said:
Hi, your bootloader is still unlocked but after instal EMUI5 was reflashed recovery from stock firmware. If you want reinstall / reset your phone and relock bootloader, you must do rollback to MM and after this will be your bootloader relocked. Another way is manually relock, bootloader via fastboot. On my opinion the first way (downgrade to MM) is better for you

So you're saying if I were to roll back to marshmallow, my bootloader would be relocked and my phone wouldn't be so broken. And then I would directly update to the new version of android? If so, how would I do that? Thanks!

How to Downgrade S7 930U Snapdragon from Nougat 7 to Marshmallow 6?

I prefer the speed and performance of marshmallow on the S7. Where are the correct files I should flash in Odin and which version of Odin should I be using to flash Android 6?
So apparently the camera isn't working after downgrade to 6?
Not something I'm willing to deal with unless the issue has been solved.
You can't downgrade snapdragon S7 models (G930U/T/V/A/P) due to the locked bootloader
Any downgrading would only work on the G930F with OEM unlock
Help root or downgrade or both?

I have a sm-g930u factory unlocked and Im also trying to get all i need to downgrade from oreo which is havoc on my battery and i dont know if its better to downgrade to laterst nougat or root it and take care of bloatware to help battery drain yet the problem will persist which is that the upgrade is designed for s8 and s9 with octacore processor and the s7 is working harder with a quad core so temp will always be hotter than before and slower than with nougat . Any help with proper step by step in downgrading my factory unlocked phone would be appreciated and any root links as i havent done it in years.

thats not true
You can downgrade any version bit loader by flashing the combo firmware and the rooting combo firmware then flash stock nougat system image its basically what the root method is for Rev11/B. If you are just on nougat then you would have to get the combo firmware that matches the bootloader version you have because if you flash my rev11/B root method you are forever stuck on that bootloader and can never use nougat again or have oreo root as there is no eng root boot.img available for oreo root on rev11/B bootloader

you can downgrade too marshmallow from any version you have because combo firmware for s7 is marshmallow based and its available for all bootloader versions. You just use the combo bootloaders and boot.img and stock system image then root it
If your still on bit 4 you can just flash stock bit 4 marsmallow and root with marshmallow eng root img

Help me to downgrade g930p oreo to nougat

I recently upgraded to oreo and my bootloader is also upgraded to 7 i need suggestions that if my g930p get boot loop than what if i instal nougat?
Snapdragon S7's can't be downgraded, it's a restriction on their bootloader. You're stuck on Oreo.

You will lose root as far as I know, but you can easily reisntall it via twrp. The bootloader will not be relocked unless you manually do so yourself.
