Unable to set APN - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi I live in the UK and bought my new 7 Pro from India. I have a Lycamobile SIM. I am unable to set APN because
1. The existing APN is disabled and I am unable to edit it.
2. Any new APN I add is not getting saved.
What do I do? I am unable to connect to the internet.
I tried the following:
1. Wiping cache
2. Resetting to default
3. Rebooting
4. Airplane mode

You can try resetting it to default, reboot, then try editing.
Or try entering Airplane mode, then do the steps above, exit Airplane mode and try again.

Yup tried all of that. Resetting to default changes nothing. Tried rebooting after that, airplane mode, removing and reinserting SIM. Nothing worked.

Found the answer. While creating a new APN, set the "MVNO Type" at the bottom of the screen to "IVSI". It is usually not set to any value and Lyca's customer service people do not inform you about this setting.
So, click on New APN
Name: "Internet Lycamobile UK"
APN: data.lycamobile.co.uk
MVNO Type : IVSI
then save the new APN. Internet should work.

A: Preliminary steps that were done before leaving the US:
a1 – From Google Play store install the following apps if you do not have them: APN Manager Pro (81 Square), Phone Info ([email protected]), Titanium Backup Pro , ES File Explorer and Open Signal Maps. You may have to pay a few bucks for some of these pro versions, but they are required.
a2 – In Titanium Backup Pro, go to Backup/Restore, find and “long select” APN Manager Pro, and then select “Convert to system app”.
a3 – Open APN Manager Pro, select Insert APN, and input the data needed from your desired service provider (see note 1 below for help). When done, go to APN List and make sure your current APN’s and the new APN’s are both there. What I did was to leave the US with several options for each country I was going to visit already loaded into the APN list so I could be ready for several possible providers. At this point, your phone should still be fully functional in the US with Verizon LTE.
B: When overseas, I did the following steps to go from LTE to GSM:
b1 – Turn off phone, pull out battery and put in micro SIM from your foreign country. DON’T LOSE YOUR VERIZON LTE SIM! Turn phone back on and turn off Wi-Fi.
b2 – Use Phone Info app to change preferred network type "Global" (click on Device Information and scroll down to the first box to change). Some have reported that other choices were needed for their providers, so you may have to experiment.
b3 – Go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Network>Access Point Names and select the correct APN. I believe that only APN’s that your SIM recognizes will show on this list. (If it’s not here, go back to step a3 and enter the needed APN data).
b4 – Reboot phone. You should have the SIM card working for phone and data.
C: To return to Verizon LTE:
c1 – Use Phone Info app to change preferred network to “LTE/CDMA/EvDo” (click on Device Information and scroll down to the first box to change).
c2 – Turn off Wi-Fi, pull battery and put Verizon LTE micro SIM card back in.
c3 – Power up phone (at this point you might be working properly already, and you are good to go!)
c4 – If needed, go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Network>Access Point Names and select LTE-Verizon Internet (which is my default here in North Carolina).
Notes and Troubleshooting Issues:
1.Below are several sites to check if you do not know the correct information. I cannot guarantee that this information is current. You may only need to enter some of this information to get data working (I did not try phone or MMS use). In some cases it may be as little as just the APN Name to display and the correct APN (sometimes referred to as GPRS APN), while other providers may require the user names or passwords or more for full functionality. Please report your successful requirements in the thread.

2.I highly suggest that you use Open Titanium Backup Pro and backup your phone apps and data. Go to Backup/Restore; then select the check mark in the upper right corner; then select RUN "Backup all user apps and system data"; and then select the green check mark in the upper right corner. Let this run until complete. You can restore any of your apps from here in the future.
3.I highly suggest that people use the Open Signal Maps widget that comes with this app, and install it in a 1x2 format on one of your screens. This shows exactly what is happening as far as provider, signal strength, and type of signal. This is where I could see that I got 3g, 3.5g and 4g service from time to time in Moscow and Helsinki. I keep this on my home page here in the US.
4.When using your phone in the US or overseas with a non-verizon SIM card, you have a constant icon warning in the notification bar referring to a "Non-Verizon SIM". If this bothers you and you want to remove it, the answer is to freeze or delete the app Setup wizard 1.0 (its icon is a red check mark with a magic wand). Using Titanium Backup, freeze or delete Setup wizard 1.0; or if you freeze/delete with AntTek App Manager, it is the second listed Setup wizard and contains 24.00kb. The app contains very little data in the database (three csv files with nothing of interest), and hopefully can be safely frozen. I have no idea why it is in the phone to begin with.
5.I also suggest learning the great features of ES File Explorer. If will allow you to easily get to your all your files (including system and root). Open it and go to menu>settings; then check "up to root", "root explorer", "mount file system" and "backup system app". Now you have full access and control of your phone files. The external card is found at /mnt/extSdCard, while the internal SD card is at /mnt/sdcard. You can set favorites to get to places you want to visit fast, and that is a plus to this file program.
6.Some phones have the option to check the following: Go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Network (if available)>then the first instance of Network Mode (before Access Point Names), and make sure it says Global mode or another choice that works for your provider (If not, go back to step b2).
7.Some phones have the option to check the following: Go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Network (if available)>then the second instance of Network Mode (after Access Point Names), and make sure it says GSM/WCDMA (Auto Mode), at least that is what I needed in Europe. Some providers may need other selections and you may have to experiment.
8.There have been reports of problems with the phone app crashing using the prior, more complex method. If this happens, try restoring your "com.android.phone" app with Titanium Backup. I'm still looking for confirmation that this fixes any issues, so please post to the thread if you have this problem and let us know if this fix works, or if it does not.

Hi
after a week searching and making many tests, i finaly found a solution to get 3G on my Verizon SGS3 in Tunisia for Tunisiana APN
source : s3forums
Before leaving the U.S., you need to complete the following:
Root the phone with stock ROM
Use sprint.recovery.image for clockworkmod (others may work as well)
Load APN Manager app from Google Play
Load HiAPN Global app from Google Play
Load Ghost Commander app from Google Play
Load Dropbox app from Google Play
Load PhoneInfo app from Google Play
Back up APN’s to sd card through HiAPN
Edit “apnlist_backup.xml” found at sdcard>HiDroid_Net>HiAPN using Ghost Commander app (select DB text editor to open) and then edit to include your required APN information.
Use HiAPN to restore APN’s
Use APN Manger to see APN list and check that info for new APN is correct (APN manager cannot do anything else or it will crash)
Use APN Manager to check to make sure that APN for now is still set to LTE-Verizon Internet or EHRPD – Verizon Internet
Once overseas, you need to complete the following:
Turn off phone and pull battery and put in micro SIM from your foreign country (I’m using MTS in Russia, but was prepared for several other providers)
Turn phone back on
Turn off wifi
Use PhoneInfo app to change preferred network type “Global” (click on Device information and scroll down for first box to change).
Open HiAPN and select “Click to Autoset APN’s” or hit “Net” one change at a time until you rotate to the correct APN
Go to airplane mode for a minute (this helps reset the radio)
Take off airplane mode
Go to Settings>More Setting>Mobile Network and make sure that is not grayed out. If not there, try going back to HiAPN and doing the “Net” cycle again.
Check Settings>More Settings>Mobile Network>Access Point Names to make sure correct APN is selected. (If not, go back to step 5).
Reboot phone, you should have the cars working.
Once back in the states, complete these steps:
Use Phone Info app to change preferred network to “LTE/CDMA/EvDo”
Pull battery and put Verizon LTE micro SIM card back in
Power up phone
Turn off wi-fi
Open HiAPN and hit “Net” one change at a time until you rotate to VZWINTERNET
Use APN Manager to check to see if it is set to LTE-Verizon Internet or EHRPD – Verizon Internet
Check Settings>More Settings>Mobile Network>Access Point Names to make sure correct APN is selected. (If not, go back to step 5).
If for whatever reason these steps fail (Once back in the states), then do the following:
Reset phone to non-rooted stock, Go here for more info.
Do full phone reset,
Re-root
Re-clockworkmod
Restore ROM through recovery mode.

Caf 0.9 lte solution found - (4g)

I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY TESTED THIS, BUT WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY NEGATIVE RESULTS, BY TRYING THIS, YOU AGREE TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
For Sprint and Virgin mobile users, i found a solution for LTE, (It will give you 4g for some reason, but it works).
EDIT: THIS NOW WORKS ON CM 13 ROMS WITH NO APN LISTINGS, HERE IS WHAT TO DO:
1. INSTALL ROM, FLASH GAPPS,
2. REPLACE APNS-CONF WITH THE ONE FROM THE BELOW LINK THAT I POSTED FOR THE CAF 0.9 FIX
3 SET PERMISSIONS OF APN-CONF TO 0644, REBOOT TO TWRP, DO FACTORY RESET.
4. WHEN YOU HAVE BOOTED INTO ROM, DOWNLOAD APN CHANGER BY ANNANDO FROM GOOGLE PLAY
5. IT WON'T SHOW ANY APNS, BUT JUST IGNORE IT AND ADD ONE ANYWAY WITH THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION (IT IS PART OF THE FIX)
For Sprint users: USE SPRINT FOR THE NAME, AND n.sprpre.ispsn for the apn name. set MMSC to http://mms.sprintpcs.com SET MMSPROXY TO: 68.28.31.7 MMS PORT: 80 MCC: 310 MNC: 120 BEARER: LTE
IT TURNS OUT THE ABOVE STEP IS NECESSARY. FOR SOME REASON, EVEN WHEN THE APN ISN'T SHOWING, IT STILL IS REQUIRED, WHICH IS REALLY STRANGE
FOR VIRGIN MOBILE USERS: DO THE SAME AS SPRINT, EXCEPT PUT n.ij.ispsn for the apn name.
6. After you have done that, do to dialer and press *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information and, like in caf, turn off radio, set network mode to cdma/lte auto prl, (again ignore the fact it says its already set on it) turn THE RADIO BACK ON, LTE WILL BE ON AFTER THE NETWORK ICON GOES CRAZY AFTER A MINUTE OR 2.
Sprint and Virgin Mobile: You need to flash rom in twrp, (wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache before flashing, (DO NOT WIPE SYSTEM OR THE INSTALL WILL FAIL) then gapps, then factory reset, (To avoid force close errors due to gapps), When the rom boots up, sign into google play account, and download root browser. After downloading that, download the apns-conf file from here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-KfJE4M0My6MnBiWWtoQW04U0U and replace the current apn-conf under system/etc with the new one you just downloaded, and set permissions to 0644, reboot to twrp, and factory reset (so the rom resets telephony.db) Then, after the rom boots up, go under mobile networks, to access point names, and the third one down will be a sprint one. Edit this one. Follow these guidelines for your respective carrier,
VIRGIN MOBILE Change the apn to n.ij.ispsn, and set the bearer to LTE Only, and Turn off the other option that is ticked under here. Then go to your phone dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#* It will bring up a menu, click on phone information menu. Then, once your in there, turn the radio off, and set the network mode to cdma/LTE auto prl, (It will already look it is on this by default, But Just Bear With Me) DO NOT MESS WITH ANY OTHER SETTINGS IN HERE UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING) Then turn the radio back on, and BOOM, you will have 4g. (The network indicator will look like its going haywire for a minute, but give it some time for the 4g to pop up).
SPRINT: Change the apn to n.sprpre.ispsn, and set the bearer to LTE Only, and Turn off the other option that is ticked under here. Then go to your phone dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#* It will bring up a menu, click on phone information menu. Then, once your in there, turn the radio off, and set the network mode to cdma/LTE auto prl, (It will already look it is on this by default, But Just Bear with me.) DO NOT MESS WITH ANY OTHER SETTINGS IN HERE UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING) Then turn the radio back on, and BOOM, you will have 4g. (The network indicator will look like its going haywire for a minute, but give it some time for the 4g to pop up).
I hope this helps somebody. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and have a wonderful day!
Thanks man, going to give this a shot

Its strange, but it works, for some reason, you cannot see it. I know this because I can't apply my fix in any of the cm 13 ROMs without inputting the proper APN with the correct details. It won't show, but its there. I know that probably doesn't make any sense, but its the best way I can explain it. I'm not sure what is causing the APN to be invisible, but nonetheless it still has an effect, even with its "non existant status". Sorry for the long winded answer!

APN issue on CM7

Hello, I am trying to use D2G on the Ting's GSM network (which is T-mobile's network). I am running the cyanogenmod 7 rom (with gingerbread kernel, I think).
I followed band unlock procedures here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1l15c0hxwQFAh1e1ewVMe3QUy4d1Laa51C2WCmBizSxA/edit
After putting in the sim card from Ting, it connects to T-mobile's network and I am able to make calls and texts, which is great.
However, I am unable to use data over the network. Ting has its own apn settings, which I have tried to enter. But after I add the apn in apn settings, the page remains blank and I am unable to select the apn that I have added.
To get around this, I have tried replacing /system/etc/apns-conf.xml with one I created myself with Ting's info, reset apn to default and reboot. Unfortunately, the phone still isn't connecting to data, and the apn page in settings remains blank.
So does anyone know what I should do? Would flashing a different rom help, is this a cyanogenmod issue?
Thanks

US Cellular SM-G920R4 Galaxy S6 APN Data Connection Locked to 3G

I have a US Cellular G920R4, unlocked.
USC has co-opted the data connection. For example, I can add an APN for Verizon and select it, but it doesn't work.
If you set the APN setting to default and remove all APNs, it dispalys a message that states that "APN settings are disabled for the current user profile."
Data is 3G by default.
Also, they've locked the browser such that you can not remove or even change the default home page, which is the USC portal.
How to I eliminate their default setup and restore the APN settings?
I was having a problem with this also and I was able to add a working APN by disabling WiFi first. You'll still see the APN settings disabled error until you add the new APN. You'll then be able to select the radio button next to the APN you added after it has been saved. It worked for me just now so I hope that helps you.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I am glad the solution worked for you and, hipefully it will help others. The WiFi settings on my device were disabled. I can add an APN and select it as default, but it's ignored - even after I delete all APNs by returning to default settings and starting over.

Change APN in Android Terminal with Root permissions

Hello,
I have succesfully made a script to Add APN Configuration to my Phone inside Terminal with Root permission. Actually I can change the default APN settings, but it take only action after Reboot.
Is it possible to enforce Reload APN Configuration without reboot?
I use my Phone as Internet Access Gateway connected to my Router a Raspberry Pi. I would like to change my outgoing IP-Address from my Mobile ISP if needed. The trick here is to add the very same APN Profile a second time and switch between them. With this trick I get another IP-Address in 2-3 Seocnds and without reboot.
I am able to change the Default APN but I was unable to Switch to another APN Profile without reboot.
I would very pleased if someone have an clever idea to change the APN Profile without Reboot.
Thank you very much!
NOT possible: settings are read-in at boot.
Thanks for your answer!
I made a macro that change the APN with the Userinterface it opens Settings -> Mobile Networks -> APN Accespoints and change the APN to the other and save the actual APN to a file. This action pattern changes the APN for me at the moment. it works, but I thaught about another possibility to not use Macros.
