Hi everyone,
Since the Androïd PIE 9.0 update, the nokia 3 loose mtkengineering app.
How to make the functionnality of mtk engineering mode app running again ? I need (and used) everyday "Band lock" and "network selecting" to lock my phone in 4G or to lock a band when others are overload.
Very thank you if somemone could help me install this app (maybe it needs to root the phone) or to revert to androïd 8.1

Hi, thank you ! It gives me access to androïd setting where I can lock 4g only, 3G only, very good! But only for sim 1, nothing can be done for SIM 2. And with engineering mode app i could select B7 only or B20 only or B28 only, on the 2 Sim slots... Other ideas?

[Q] This device in germany

Dear all,
i got this phone from a friend (S3 from Verizon, SCH -I535) but I'm leaving in Germany, i thougt it would be enough to Flash a custom Rom to get rid of the sim lock but it Looks like that there are morre technical issues that i know :crying:
So what i find out is that it uses CDMA 1x/EVDO Rev A. instead of GSM/UMTS and that the LTE band is ankother one.
On the other Hand i read about the jellywiz gsm Rom for that device, the outcome is that i'm very confused right now.
My question, is there a Software based way (custo Rom, kernel, modem etc) to make this device working in Germany with a german carrier sim Card?
thnx in advanced
Update the phone to the latest update and you can use it without having to root it
and it will work in Germany using german sim on gsm/umts and LTE??

1: Are you on the MF1 update?
2: If yes, go to Network mode and select GSM
3: wait for a couple of mins
4: go the APN setting and enter all your APN details.
You should be set

EE / Three UK VoLTE

Hi.
I have a EU Xzp single sim version. I flashed 3UK firmware but don't get band 20 access or volte. Anyone here flashed onto 3uk or EE and get volte? Anyone getting volte with carrier branded device in UK?
Sony Xperia XZ Premium
How did you flash your Xperia XZ Premium, i want to flash mine but flashtool is still not compatible, i am able to download the Rom but the flashtool does not recognize the phone when its time to flash. Please help.
Thanks,
NB

You use the new flash tool:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/progress-newflasher-xperia-command-line-t3619426
Op, can you check what configuration your phone has loaded? To do this type this in dialer *#*#7378423#*#* then "Service Info" then "Software info". there should be row called Current modem Config: What does it read?
From the XZ Premium available modem configurations i can see following UK stuff available.
amss_fsg_maple_ee_ims_tar
amss_fsg_maple_hutch_uk_tar
amss_fsg_maple_hutch_uk_volte_vowifi_tar
amss_fsg_maple_telefonica_uk_ims_tar
amss_fsg_maple_telefonica_uk_tar
amss_fsg_maple_virgin_uk_tar
amss_fsg_maple_vodafone_uk_tar
amss_fsg_maple_vodafone_uk_volte_vowifi_tar
For the 3UK to work from phone side, you probably need amss_fsg_maple_hutch_uk_volte_vowifi_tar loaded in current modem config.
Do you have volte calls option available under Mobile network settings?
If everything there, but not working still then need to get feedback from 3UK if they need to switch it on for XZ Premium

hi with EE firmware there is current modem config there is: amss_fsg_maple_ee_ims_tar.mbn and EE Wifi Calling and EE VoLTE works
hi with 3UK firmware- the correct modem config is there-> but no Band 20, No VoLTE (and no Wifi Calling- looking at 3UK website -> even the 3UK XZP doesn't have Wifi calling support).
I note the EE current firmware security update is from June'17, 3UK latest firmware is April'17.
Maybe things will improve when 3 UK update their firmware
A big downside of XZP seems to be you can't lock onto a specific band... (you can fix LTE but not the band)
If the correct region firmware is flashed and correct config loaded then volte should be good to go from phone side.
Operator can still limit volte per device model or firmware version.
Comparing the April firmware and June, there are no changes in modem config files.
But there is hope that new build is the qualifying factor for 3UK.
O2 UK has volte and vowifi active with the June update also
LTE band locking will be available when good root support arrives.
PS. If you feel like experimenting then you can take the latest EE firmware and switch out the oem.sin from 3UK firmware and flash it.
This should give you newest base and 3uk oem config.
I have just flashed the 3 firmware. I can confirm that I am not getting band 20 or volte.
The option to turn it on is not in settings either.
Current modem config:
/system/etc/customization/modem/amss_fsg_maple_hutch_uk_tar
Hopefully the June update will fix it.
Edit: I can't test adding the three oem bit into the ee firmware as I am going away now and can't flash my phone. But will try and test when I get back if no one has (or the newer firmware is available) by then

Any ideas why unlocked version has o2 modem?
modem is loaded via detection of sim, but volte settings come from oem.sin that is in the regional firmware.

In that case it is loading the wrong modem.
The modem that is needed is in the folder but not loaded.
amss_fsg_maple_hutch_uk_volte_vowifi_tar.mbn
Whereas the one that is loaded is amss_fsg_maple_hutch_uk_tar.mbn
if you could alter files in oem.sin then this could be changed.
Do we have a method to repack .sin files? I know how to "unsin" and how to extract .ext4 but repacking is unknown to me.
Also it is possible to select the configuration manually via app. Might not work with non-rooted devices.
Check the tutorial here https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/enabling-volte-xperia-z2-xperia-z3-t3438505
root, build.prop changes and shortcutmaker is needed.
Also maybe the 3uk june update will change which configuration is loaded will check when it drops.
Anybody managed to connect to band 20 on EE with the latest firmware update?
Not sure if I've connected or not with the latest update, but since then I no longer see 4G+ (which is the norm for other EE phones, but for some reason I had it on the XZ Premium until now).
It is still using CA and VoLTE is still working, so I assume band 20 is still usable.
Cellmapper https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cellmapper.net.cellmapper will show you which band you are connected to.
My Sonyss show 4G+ when there is Carrier Aggregation in use. Should see LTE-A in Cellmapper when that is the case.

Having returned from the Lake District I can confirm I had use of band 20 with no problems, and it made a big difference to coverage and speed. Many places in excess of 100Mbps with band3+20!

Getting Reliance Jio VoLTE working on a non-Indian LG V20 H990DS

Courtesy a helping hand from xdav20 , got Jio VoLTE working on my non-Indian V20 while still being on the latest firmware.
Picked up a H990DS from the Middle East - this is a AME variant. So here are the steps without further ado.
Download and install the patched LGUP as described here.
Download H990ds10f_00_OPEN_ESA_DS_OP_1227.kdz
Use PartitionDL mode in the Patched LGUP to install 10f firmware to the V20. Let the phone reboot (with the Jio SIM installed)- you will see the VoLTE icon on top. The Software version will say V10F-GLOBAL-COM
Now Download H990ds10j_00_OPEN_ESA_DS_OP_0923.kdz
Restart phone in download mode, again use PartitionDL mode in the Patched LGUP to install the 10j firmware downloaded above. However, this time check all partitions except the /cust partition in the popup in LGUP when you load the 10j kdz. Reboot - you will still have VoLTE.
If you wanted a rooted phone, install 10f firmware first. Root using these instructions.
Use kdzwriter to upgrade the phone to the 10j version. Use command
Code:
kdzwriter -s -m H990ds10j_00_OPEN_ESA_DS_OP_0923.kdz
Whichever method you use, you will still have Jio VoLTE, the software version will say V10F-GLOBAL-COM but the Android security patch level will be September 1, 2017. Screenshots below ...
Error: 0x2BC, Invalid command response code = 0x80000202

does anyone know if there is some special tuning to set to get efficient 3G 4G bsnl connection? I'm using a bsnl chip which was running nicely on a phone from indian market, but now in my european lg v20 it most of the time connects to 2G, and download rates are low.

Yes it's working fine and their is no issue with the volte.
why wouldn't a non-indian 4G phone support the jio network? Actually the trick with the "hidden menu" app didn't do anything and by default the phone connects to an LTE network and seems to get data. As for VoLTE, it seems this symbol it was not displayed, and AFAIK it's a software issue as 4G was designed for internet data rather than voice calls. There should be a plugin to convert voice into data and vice versa.
So when the rom installed by the factory is AME you have to change to an ASE rom to get VoLTE working? In your explanations the first flash is with the 10f and VoLTE is enabled which is the whole goal of your post if i refer to the title, but then you move to the 10j, why? Is it to show how to upgrade to a newer rom without losing the VoLTE enabled?

Get VoLTE working on H8314/H8324 XZ2 Compact in India on Airtel and Jio

I spent quite a bit of time figuring out how to make the VoLTE work on Airtel and Jio in India on a USA edition H8314 phone.
Sony for some reason doesn't bundle all operators VoLTE configuration in all images, not sure why, typically not the case with other high end phones. And they have region specific bundles or OEM customization.
I solved the problem by taking parts of the regular dual sim ZX2 firmware H8296_Customized IN_1314-9934_52.0.A.3.202_R4B, which has the VoLTE configuration for Airtel and Reliance, and flashing it on my phone. VoLTE works! No issues noticed so far (will update if I notice anything).
Here are the steps:
1. Install XperiFirm
2. download the Indian version of firmware for XZ2 dual, in my case H8296_Customized IN_1314-9934_52.0.A.3.202_R4B
3. download and install newflasher
4. From the downloaded and extracted set of files in XperiFirm download directory, copy the following to another directory
oem_other_X-FLASH-CUST-B6B5.sin
oem_X-FLASH-CUST-B6B5.sin
5. Copy the newflasher also to the same directory, now this directory should have 3 files
6. turn off the phone,
8. enter flashmode (vol down + connect USB cable to PC)
9. run the newflasher, in the directory you prepaired in step 4 and 5
10. Unplug from USB after the flashing is done and restart your phone, it should work with VoLTE on airtel as well as Jio. On airtel it may take a few minutes before the calls actually start going on VoLTE but it works perfectly fine.
This doesn't require bootloader unlock so all phone function would remain good. Feel Free to ask questions, the version of firmware on my XZ2C is 52.0.A.3.163 USA generic.
So this works good with Indian and US networks ?

For me updates still work.
Your device will not be rooted after that. So in my opinion you will not loose your warranty.

Thank you for confirming
I will try this and keep you posted if this works
Thank you Guys
It worked and now I get VoLTE on both Airtel and Jio.
However for Airtel it takes some extra 10 seconds to get VoLTE.
One problem I have noticed after this. I received an official xperia update but got an error "Could not Install" while installing this update.
Do you know how to resolve this issue?

Anyways thanks Alot for this awesome tip man.. I really felt bad for my xz2 premium now I'm really happy. You saved my money. Thanks again.

First of all, I would like to say Big thanks who share this Procedure, Now I am able to use Volte Functionality
Now I have the same problem while changing sim1 to sim2 to and vice versa but before did volte procedure it was working fine in both sim, so as per my opinion this problem related somewhere Volte functional
I bought this Cell from the Middle East, So in Middle east it was working fine while changing Sim1 & Sim2 Procedure and even in India it was working
So if someone does R&D than might be it is a curable issue, I don't know why Sony did a big mistake nowadays even Oops, Vivo, all Chinese implements successfully these things, even sony dosnt implement Auto Hide status bar in Compact Series Cell

Today I discovered 3 more problems
1)After Install Volte Firmware, Because in India no Official launched XZ2C , after install we can not get Firmware Update
2)If you Switch Mobile data between two sims, Cell will restart automatically
3)In Setting->Display you can not get Super Vivid Mode or Professional Mode for better color reproduction
So if anyone tells me XZ2C officially launched which country with Volte Function, if we get an answer than we can solve all the issue
Fact. reset

To get back this, just factory re-set and will get this options. Anyway It is not working any VoLTE (it's just showing the LTE symbol and option in seeting, in reality your call is routed on 3g/2g. ) you can verify this by selecting 4g only and try calling.

Have you gone into the Phone Information screen and enabled NR?
*#*#4636#*#*, choose Phone Information. Under preferred network type, change it to NR/LTE.
If that doesn't work, your carrier could be blocking it or it could need a special network configuration that the Pixel doesn't have being an unsupported device. Either way, you may be out of luck.

Sounds like your SIM is disabling the menu.
Download this app and it will bypass that.
Force LTE Only (4G/5G) - Apps on Google Play
This app will help You change network to 5G/4G/3G/2G and stay in chosen network
play.google.com
Set up the app and use Method 2 to get that menu pulled up.
I was able to use that app to force my OnePlus 9 to use 5G when I flashed the Chinese firmware that didn't actually support US carriers and also blocked dialer access to the menu so it's worth a shot.

No luck, only just unlock bootloader and root with Magisk and flash modul VOLTE to force 5G but only what makes me bad is that data must be wiped and must again activated bank app and that is procedure. Any solution to avoid vipe data when I unlock bootloader? I think that there is not

Yeah with you being stuck on EDGE, I don't have high hopes that you're able to fix this without root (and even then, you may not).
There is no way to unlock the bootloader and preserve data as the wipe is a security precaution.
