Android 10 / Q - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Is it possible to create an AOSP version of Android Q from the beta version for the HTC U11?
Is it possible to create a driver package for the HTC U11, so that with coming versions that package can be included in building a ROM? Or, was that thought too easy? ?

very much looking forward to

Pixel 2 Series basically have the same hardware as the U11. So it's very possible as long as there is a dev who's interested in making one for U11.

That's why I bought a HTC U11 instead of the Pixel 2 ?

Is there a developer interested in creating one? ?

It's time

With this image, can a ROM being build?

I would love how to learn how to port ROM's & new android versions, I can't find any up-to-date documentation or walkthrough's for Pie or Q , I'm curious how people do it. Can any of the U11 dev's direct me to any information or where to even start?
The thought of running my trusty U11 on Q is enticing, I'm willing to learn and help any dev's out there to get a Q ROM up and running.
I know it must be possible, the HTC M8 has got pie ROM's on the go!:fingers-crossed:

Although the u11 hardware is similar to pixel 2,
But the software has huge differences between Vendor and Vendor.
HTC usually has special drivers, which greatly increases the difficulty of creating a new version of Android.

I saw yesterday a friend with his phone with android 10 installed. I'm really jealous , how is this possible? The only useful information i can find is Lineage OS 17, which is not available for public release.

Differences between WM6 OS Versions

I am confused by the many different OS version for WM6 ROMs (20273 22222 19701). I did a search and the closest post I could find didn't really explain the reasons for different OS versions.
Is the latest the best and most stable?
Is there an OS changelist I can view somewhere?
Are the OS versions set by the ROM maker and shared by them?
Are the OS versions set by Microsoft or the device manufacturer that the OS came from?
the only real difference is windows mobile 6 and 6.1
then you have difference in radios provided by different carriers at different locations.
there isn't really a change list since there are only two official types.
if you download a rom from this site it will not be an official rom unless it says it is.
roms aren't updated like windows with service packs, you have to completely "delete" your operating sytem and info and load a new one...... which is why you won't get an update unless it is basically a new operating system.

Usually not. Nor are the numbers a guarantee of newness. Sometimes earlier numbers signify newer builds.

Not that I have seen. But as Joel said, the only real big difference is 6.0 and 6.1 . Other than that, builds usually feature bug fixes and/or speed tweaks. You are best off to watch the forum for a specific device. Most ROM cooks will post which build they are using, and most new ROMs will use the most recently released OSs. That way you can know the most recently released builds for that are working for that device.

No. ROM cookers (I assume you mean cookers) use various builds which they get from various places. Usually they get these ROMs dumped from recently released models, sometimes they get them because they have connections in the right places; like Microsoft, HTC, etc.

Good question. I don't know exactly, but I would assume that an OS comes from a combination of work in both companies.
Thanks for the quick replies.
Does anyone know of any threads that talk about OS version differences?
How does a ROM cooker go about choosing an OS version?

like we said, no there isn't an os version difference.
The differences are 6 and 6.1 or from different phones.
ROM cookers choose ROMs on features they like or what they have available.
A good way to start would be to just find a good ultra lite rom and build from there

Our devices is dead??? No more rom support?

Hi, since Xiaomi decided to depreciate rom support for our mi4c, everyday i try to find a replacement firmware. But here is what i found: official lineage removed mi4c since april, last rom is 0209 because they no longer support 14.1 version. AICP lastest version is 2702, no longer update. There're many unofficial roms on 4pda, but all of them now have their support ended because the devs move to new devices. There's only Mokee that support nightly 9.0 and release 8.1 version everyday and monthly. I try to find something like "mi4c treble" but no hope, the repository is created but empty, not like mi4 that has unofficial treble support. Maybe i need to buy a new phone? But my phone is still in good condition with no problem so far... :crying::crying::crying:
Yeah, sad but true. I also gave up on new rom, so i still use the 15.1 LineageOS one (20180810). Good rom, no problems here, but wouldnt mind some security updates.
The phone works nicely though and apart from battery lasting a day, i dont see any problems. I guess we will have to move to new phone if we want to see some updates rom.
I resized device partition table in order to support android treble.
I will make custom recovery image which is support android treble.
Maybe our device is ready to support android treble by then
added
I made treble-enabled recovery image now and it works well.
I will release the solution soon.

it's a fork of LineageOS, still being updated
haven't tested it yet

/e/ is a fork of lineage and based on lineage 14.1 for our phone, with microg pre installed. They use a different default launcher, bliss
It works well and is easy to tweak if we dont like the launcher or default apps.
Anyway since our phone is no longer maintained i've decided to build lineage 14.1 for myself.
I'll do it once or twice a month when there are updates.
If anyone need it check here :

Mokee have a good android 9 ROM, been using it for months and no issues:
https://download.mokeedev.com/libra.html
Also WJXXBSH recently published new Lineage 16 and even 17! https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=299149
I have not tried it yet, but at least WJXXBSH is keeping our device live.
how about lineage 16 from havoic 3.1 (https://sourceforge.net/projects/havoc-os/files/libra/)
At least it work fine for me on mi4c

Hopefully not as the developers said that as long as they have this phone working they'll keep the development going. :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Well, I hope there will be future development for this phone too. I'm using one for more than 2 years, and battery still rocks, it sure lasts more than any flagship !
as far as i can tell, mike is working on lineage os 17.
so at least one android 10 rom might be coming soon

Yea bro same, more than 2.5 years and still i get SOT of 6-7 hours.
Whenever i think of buying a new phone, i look at my p2 and i stop. Its still so smooth cuz of the ROMS and charges under 1 hour and 15 minutes.
This phone is the best purchase i ever had. So i want development to keep going on, atleast for 1 more iteration of Android. Then i'll maybe buy Redmi K20 pro next year cuz it'll also have good development in future.
@Erazor84 that's good news brother. But I'll wait for AOSP xtended Android-10 (if it ever comes)
Bcuz i used their Oreo build and now using pie, and i found them the best among all of'em.

My guess would be at least 2 more ROMs :fingers-crossed: one from @VladSor and second from @Fullbustah as they are consistent with porting/ developing the ROMs such as Havoc, Syberia, Bootleggers and POSP for P2.
But of course, we need a reliable vendor upgrade first.
Xiaomi redmi note 4 which has the same Specs has just got lineage 17.

Generic System Image (GSI) is pure untouched Android released by Google for treble enabled phones with a designated vendor partition.
Semi GSI (SGSI) is a customized GSI with features and name of a custom ROM and it can also be installed on treble enabled phones with a designated vendor partition.

The following url https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p2/development/rom-aosip-derpfest-t3981193 will give You access on this forum to the thread concerning AOSiP-10-DerpFest-Alpha-kuntao-20191009.zip which is the first alpha version of the first Android 10 custom rom dedicated to the Lenovo P2.
If You are interested in testing this Android 10 rom, just follow the installation instructions given on the first page of the thread.
If I well understood, I think that someone, maybe mikeioannina ?, should now be working on a Android 10 rom LineageOS 17. If this is the case, all we can do is to be patient.
You will note that from now on we must say Android 10 instead of Q as asked by Google. So, next year, the next version of Android will be Android 11 and not R.
Below is the lineageos github page for Kuntao (Lenovo P2a42), the branch is on 17.0, but it seems it hadn't been developed on in 4 months, but i don't know how these things go...

Hello I've tried all of the versions on my KUNTAO, at the beggining very laggy now better, there are some ROMS which you can use w/out a problem if you can live w/out some of the features like the FP GESTURES OR AA CONNECTIVITY.
HAVOC 3.0 (NOT THE TREBLE VERSION) to me is the best option till this post furthermore I don't know.
CHHERS
So, We are half a year further from the last post in this thread, any news on the stability and performance of the android 10 rom's? Im right now on Crdroid Pie ROM and except fingerprint kicking the bucket everything is working flawlessly. Any stable and well performing 10 rom's out there, or should we wait a little longer?

How easy would it be to compile a LineageOS 13 rom for this phone?

I'm looking to buy a cheap, but still good Android phone, and the Exynos Galaxy S7 fits the bill, but there's one small issue.
There's no LineageOS 13 roms, but I looked around, and discovered this page https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/herolte/build
It says you can only build off of a CyanogenMod 14.1 build, but that's Android 7.1.x, not 6.0.1.
Is it possible for someone like me with no experience to create something like this that doesn't exist?
A lot is possible if you want to put in the time and effort. Not sure why you need Android 6 though. Stock firmware was updated through 8.

Just want to use the CyanogenMod Theme Engine
Maybe port the features you want and not an entire OS build? Sometimes it isn't that hard to make something compile in a similar environment.

Lineage OS 18.x

Hope this is a good place to ask. I had to get the old Oneplus 7 pro back and Renovate ICE is pretty much dead. I'm not sure if I want to go all the way to Android 12, since I think Oneplus only had it up to 11. On the downloads for Lineage OS though, they only go back to version(s) 19.x which is Android 12.
Help a brother out anybody?
Thanks.

Yes, it looks like they now only support 19.1 and 20 on that device. All 18.1 links are dead.

Part of the reason people install custom ROMs is to extend the support for their device.

True, but without an actual working stock ROM with the actual Android version you want to build for the device, you can no longer extract the /vendor files which leads to some things not working properly. So it's, "Hey look, I've got a version of Android on this phone you won't" with the qualifier "And everything works." Meaning it is a port. I've been using customer ROMS on all my Android phones for about 12 years or so now started with the Droid A855. Hell I used to flash different firmware on the old flip phones before.
And the whole reason for this thread is what you said. There appears to be no links for version earlier than 19.x, so I asked hopping that maybe someone had one laying around they could share or knew of a mirror or other link. I used to save and host lots and lots of ROMs on my personal server and used to link those repositories in my sig here and many other places.
So thank you for your replies.
