bootloader unlock codes are now available. Just got one myself!

Can all versions of Pixel have their bootloader unlocked and be rooted? Or are there some versions that cannot be rooted? In the past I had misfortune with carrier branded phones from Canada that it was impossible to unlock bootloader. It want to confirm this is not the case before gettinga Pixel. Thanks in advance.
Just to be clear I'm talking about the Pixel with 5.0" screen, so not the XL.
Google version can be unlocked. There is a tool available to unlock the Verizon version but it was patched with December's update. If you plan to get it through Verizon I would hurry up and get it because it's likely not updated yet. Then you can take out the sim and skip connecting to wifi during setup and then unlock the bootloader before updating.
It is VERY unlikely that a new exploit will be found ever for the Verizon pixel. From my understanding it was a very simple exploit that was pretty much found by mistake.

All Canadian versions of the pixel/XL are carrier unlocked and can have their bootloader's unlocked as well. And can be rooted.

Why is it "Very Likely"?
There have been plenty of phones to lose bootloader unlock exploits only to never get them back. Guaranteed unlock exploits is a thing of the past... Get in while you can or deal with it when it never becomes an option again.

Read my post again lol. I said "very unlikely".
hello,
I'm due to take delivery of my Pixel from EE. Is it true that the booloader cannot be unlocked via normal fastboot oem unlock? Are there any other EE user that confirm?
thanks

I've received 2 phones direct from EE (1 replacement arrived last week) , and both were on 7.1 out of the box. So there's hope for you being able to unlock the bootlader. Just make sure you skip Wi-Fi setup during the installation process, or turn off automatic updates within Developer options to avoid updating to 7.1.1.
Then use Depixel8 to unlock the bootlader.

Thanks for letting me know. Worst case I'll swap it and go with o2. Coming from a oneplus3 it's disappointing to be back with development unfriendly devices

I pulled my sim out of my Verizon model before I turned it on to stop any updates along with skipping wifi setup before I unlocked the bootloader. Thankfully mine was on 7.1. Unlocking was one of the first things I did. After that you can upgrade without locking it back up.

As mentioned, don't put a sim in it and skip wifi setup until you get it unlocked. They download the update quickly....And it installs in the background and if that happens you are done.
You will be fine.
There is about 3 threads a week asking the same exact question..
After posting this I just saw the same exact one right under this one.
Guess it must be a popular question.

Ok new to Moto G. It's my cousins set and he told me to unlock the bootloader. I did everything as said in the tutorials, got "Unlock" at the screen too. But it did not reboot, I manually pressed the power button to boot that up and it wentbto bootloop (I guess). Can anyone verify how long does it take to boot after unlocking the bootloader?
Thanks

I've been looking for quite a while.. It seems like I'll need $25 (I have $0 to spend ) for Sunshine S-off and a temporary root just long enough to install root to be able to attempt to run the Sunshine S-off.

Just tried several times with honor support to get unlocked code before the so called deadline...they refused and said they will not be provided for phone from USA & Canada. Any thoughts about what is going on....

you can try
https://www.emui.com/en/plugin/unlock/index
I got my unock code that way a few weeks ago
thank you.
Will give that a try, are you using a North American phone ( Canada or USA) cause that seems to be what they are blocking for now.

No I'm not, I'm in Europe, but it's still worth a try
I just got my code earlier today so it's still working.
Chris (developer for Honor us) said they are not blocking codes at all. In fact, he's still in talks with the uppers trying to reverse the decision. You can easily find him on FB if you'd like to personally reach out to

You guys are correct, support was wrong they are still providing unlock codes...now that I have a code where do I input this in the phone to make sure it is unlocked. I have not done this before...so I will not be flashing A ROM on this just yet!

If you don't know how to unlock bootloader or understand what comes with unlocking a bootloader, do some reading on other threads or do not attempt it at all you could break your phone.

This much I know...unlock now to preserve the option of a stable Rom sometime in the future after Honor stops supporting the phone...I hate this planned obsolescence which is all too common with Android...

Do we still get OTA updates after unlocking the bootloader?
I want to stick to EMUI until OTA updates are stopped officially.

You don't need to use it now unless you wish to switch to custom ROMs or gain root.
Just keep it until you're ready to make the change. It can be used to unlock and relock as many times as you want.
Unlocking will force a wipe.
There are no stable ROMs at the moment anyway, and I doubt there will still be oldschool ones in the future.
As soon as Oreo is out for your region you could unlock and switch to Treble ROMs, but they're not stable for our phone yet either. Kirin's are fiddly to work with when it comes to custom roms, even with Treble support. Stock is always the best option.
Keep your unlock code somewhere safe, since (like someone already said) you can use and reuse it however often you want, and really stay on stock as long as you can. It's of no use for you to unlock/root right now.
Hello just a few minutes ago I manually searched for updates from the system setting (have auto update off) and realized I had an update so I took it. I've taken updates OTA before with no issues however this time it basically completely factory data reset my phone and also what's more bizarre is it removed my bootloader unlock that I had gotten way back when the phone was first released. I have never installed custom firmware or even rooted the device but I did get my bootloader unlocked using a paid service that I found about here. I have a snapdragon model note 20 ultra 5g. I am so confused why this time around the OTA affected these things. I have included a screenshot of the OTA I took. Can anyone tell me what happened to my bootloader unlock I've had for like 6 months ?
Do you have a U or a UI device? If so I think Samsung changed the bootloader from version 1 to version 2 and that might be why you lost it. Checkout the last 2 pages of this thread here where you might be able to get more clarification.
Whenever you lock or unlock your bootloader, you device will factory reset.
When you took the update, it updated the bootloader to version 2.
Since your unlock was not an official one, it relocked your bootloader in the process.
This is what caused the wipe.
Yup. You're not supposed to take ota updates with unofficial unlocked bootloader.
Not even sim unlock.

Nope. Not for US versions.
Why did you unlock the bootloader if you haven't ever rooted or flashed custom?
