Which usb-c to 3.5m jack cables work and why? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

I tried the Apple usb-c to 3.5m headphone jack cable and it didn't work, I read online someone saying that it didn't work with the 6T either. Before I buy another cable I am trying to figure out which work and why. My car connection is with a audio cable so I need to use it for that.
Any help or expertise appreciated.

This one works perfectly for me

I can't use direct links, so you'll have to play with the text below.
This one worked for me:
*amazon dot com* + /gp/product/B07PF8Z6LB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bought but returned this one due to having a buzzing sound and low volume:
*amazon dot com* + /gp/product/B07P5T7QTF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The first link has "DAC" while the 2nd does not seem to have that feature.
I bought the 2nd because it said it worked for the Pixel 2 and because the usb c to 3.5mm adapter that came with the Pixel 2 worked in the OP7 Pro. Unfortunately, the product in the 2nd link didn't work in either device.
I hope that helps

If you don't care about the quality of the dac...you can just get the google branded one...it's cheaper than OP new pricing and it will probably work with any phones without a headphone jack.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a headphone jack + PD adapter that would work for the OP7P? Or am I stuck with buying just a USB C to 3.5mm adapter?

[Q] Micro usb + aux cable?

I've been looking for a cable to use in my car with my sII skyrocket for a week or so with no luck thus far. What I want is a single cable solution that plugs into the micro usb port on my phone and provides an aux out as well as usb out so I can charge and listen to my phone through my car. The usb would plug into a usb car charger and the aux out would obviously plug into the aux in on my stereo. I know it's possible to have one cable do this as I've seen docks that have this feature but I have yet to find a cable! I loved being able to easily charge and listen to my iphone with a single cable and hopefully someone knows where I can find one for my galaxy sII. Thank!
Does your car stereo have a regular 3.5 MM audio input? If so, just get a male to male audio cable and run that from your phone's headphone jack to the stereo.
I don't think there is such a cable because the Aux is an input that only take a signal from your device to the stereo, not the other way around. Usually those docks plug into the car lighter and connect to the radio using a specific radio station signal. Like burhanistan said, you should just buy a 3.5mm male to male cable like Retrak or Belkin and get a car lighter adapter for charging.
Yeah that's what I've been using but I would prefer to use a single cable to charge and play music. As you can see in these images the official samsung dock has a pass through auxiliary port with the only input being from the micro usb port so its definitely possible.
I might try and buy one of these and soldering in a micro usb cable to charge simultaneously but the skyrocket isnt listed under the compatible phones. Oh well my search continues...
Yea, sorry bud, the closest thing you're going to get is one of those Radio adapters that has a USB port on it, as well as the 3.5" male end.
I just checked on google for awhile and simply couldn't find anything. You can find these for the iPhone and I've used them, they rocked. Seems like the Skyrocket doesn't support audio out through the usb connector?

yeah would be nice..
Just bought one of these http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Headset-Adapter-to3-5mm-Female/dp/B003W057FS/ref=pd_cp_cps_1
If it works with the skyrocket I'm going to solder in a usb cable as well to charge it at the same time. I'll let you guys know if it works next week.
i too would love something like this. i used the IMP adapter before on my iPOD it was great could charge and listen to music at the same time with only one connector coming out. seemed more clean as far as cabling went.
Well the adapter I bought does not work with my skyrocket... Oh well I guess I'll have to deal with a mess of cables for now

USB Type C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter

My issue
Hi everyone, I have a Nexus 6P and want to route my audio through a USB type C converter to 3.5mm headphone Jack. I have purchased one online, but it doesn't seem to be working. I have seen that the Moto Z has this adapter and I assumed one I found online would be compatible with my 6P. The reason I want to do this is because I prefer for the AUX jack to come out the bottom of my phone.
What I have tired
Changed 'Select USB Configuration' to all the different options and tried playing music.
Tried 'audio routing' apps from the app store
What I would like to know
Is this because I need to change a setting in my phone to route music out of the USB C?
Do I need to get some kind of DAC to allow support for this?
Has anyone else tried this with their phone?
Thanks

One reason is that to me it makes more sense to put your phone upside down into you pocket. I've always done this at least. So when listening to music I have to put it the other way round. I have also heard the USB C port offers better sound quality.

Re:sound quality, you'd possibly see a quality increase if you use an external Digital to Analogue Converter or fully usb-c headphones. BUT, if you're using a little dongle (if it's possible), then the phone is still managing the analogue conversion and, thus, a very similar quality of audio output. Now I don't know of the 6p's ability to pipe it straight out iPhone 7 style through a dongle, but short of buying a DAC and going whole-hog on an audio upgrade, I'd just flip your phone the other way in your pocket and go the standard route.
Just my $.02
I have been looking for a solution to this too and I seem to have found one. I poked around on Amazon and I think I finally found adapters that work, here's the link https://goo.gl/QT2ith This the only one with positive reviews so when it comes in on the 30th I'll let all of you know.

Looks quite similar to the one that I got. Hopefully it works for you! Let me know how it goes
I read recently that the current implementation of audio over USB-C isn't very efficient or battery friendly. There's a new spec being ratified to provide audio like the iphone can. Hopefully that's a firmware change and not a hardware one.
http://www.theverge.com/2016/8/17/12519936/intel-usb-type-c-headphone-jack-replacement-idf-2016
I don't think it's possible on the 6P, not without using a USB DAC anyway.
As far as I'm aware, the adapter you have is for a USB 3/3.1 interface. While the 6P has USB-C it is USB 2.
I'm able to get audio out of my USB C port, but it's with a USB headset. Haven't tried it with a 3.5mm headphone adapter, but havd no reason to try it either.
This is weird. Because i have a pair of Sennheiser Urbanites (Wireless edition), and i can use bluetooth, aux, and usb (like for a computer) audio. I once tried to turn off the headsets (bluetooth off, aux and usb still works if connected), and turned off bluetooth on my phone. Then i used my USB type C to USB type A Female adapter (from the google store), and connected the usb-cable from the headsets into the type c adapter. it did output audio through the usb-cable.

Bluetooth headphones usually have their own DAC, so the audio for all but the Aux is still being sent through the DAC first, which is supported by older USB standards.
The new USB 3.1 Audio standard can pass through analogue audio from the internal DAC, which is what I believe phones such as the Moto Z utilise. Otherwise the adapter would require it's own DAC, which would make it far larger and more expensive.
Not sure if you will find a good solution at the moment since they just created a standard for audio over usb c http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20160927006252/en/USB-IF-Announces-USB-Audio-Device-Class-3.0
Did the amazon converter end up working for you?
My experience so far.
Hi, I ordered some usb c to 3.5mm & out of the box so far they aren't working. I tried Neutron and tried to force the audio to usb but unsuccessfully with phone not recognizing the USB connection.
On the other hand the type C to usb-a adapter worked beautifully using mixplorer. If I get working, will update. Thanks.

USB C Headphone Adaptor

I have Honestly no way to understand how Motorola will now refuse to sell the USB C headphone adaptor to its customers that pay 750.00 on the MOTO Z FORCE. I honestly can not believe I purchased this phone and NO WAY TO UNLOCK (Verizon) OR ROOT???????!!!!!!!!!!
If you purchase this adaptor on amazon or ebay you will not find one that works or it will not last long so does anyone one have a suggestion as to how we can find this Adaptor??? Can't get it from Verizon or Motorola so what do we do????
Perhaps they didn't understand what you wanted? Anyway, there have been threads like this before. Here are a couple:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3471022
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3437638
I ended up getting a replacement for free. When you call, be nice and try to speak clearly. If the person you talk to won't help you, call again. Don't ask for a free one, just explain your situation. If they don't offer to send you one call and talk to someone else.
I also ordered these ones from Amazon;
Rancco Type C to 3.5mm Audio Headphone Stereo Adapter Connector, 2 Pcs USB 3.1/ USB C to 3.5mm Audio Microphone Female Adapter for New Macbook 2015, XPS13, CDLA, Headphone,Type C Port Devices https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KJNN2PW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_wjVoybJNM7C2R
They work just like the original. I ended up using shrink tubing to "permanently" attach an adapter to my main pair of headphones. The other I use in my with truck.

they transferred me to another dept, where person took all my info, IMEI of phone and shipping address. Told me a manager will get back to me via email if any are available. but the next day the only email I received was with the FedEx tracking number saying that my order had shipped.)
This Method does work, But please note they will ask for IMEI Number to see if you have warranty in my case i do with extended warranty and i was then told it would take 3 to 5 days but the adapter is on the way.
Hope this helps.

Intersting. The description says they're CDLA, That should mean they have a DAC built in. How do they sound?

I can't hear a difference between using the included adapter and the one from Amazon.

I have the Rancco adaptor from Amazon, too. I can't tell the difference between the one that came with the Z and the Rancco (as far as sound). They sound great. It was $6.99 for two.

USB-C Charging + Audio cable

So I know that the Pixel XL doesn't suffer from the lack of an audio / headphone jack, but I was curious if anyone has tried to use any USB-C Charging + Audio adapters with their Pixel XL.
My wife has a 2005 FX35 which doesn't have bluetooth in the car, we've tried FM Transmitters in the past and those aren't great. However she has been using a 2.5mm headphone to cassette adapter in her car with her phone which she prefers. So I was thinking maybe there is a way to have her just be able to plug in the USB-C + Audio cable for just 1 cable to plug in vs a USB-C + a separate 2.5mm cable.
That car sounds old enough to be able to replace the CD player without much hassle.
Definitely upgrade the radio. You at least need a AUX input nowadays.
Since I can see you've had such gracious and helpful responses so far, I did some research and it seems that most phones that support USB-C charging+audio adapters don't have aux ports on them. For our phones, most of the adapters won't work unless because the wires usually routed to the aux port are running to the USB-C female port on the phone. While there are some USB-C peripherals that can take audio from our USB-C ports (USB DACs, docks, etc), none of the aux+USB-C adapters I've been able to find online are compatible with our phone and all of them were pretty shoddy.
Unfortunately, I think your wife is going to be stuck using the 2 cord method for a while longer.
My last car was a 2007 Accord without Bluetooth. I purchased a Bluetooth adapter that hooked in to the back of the stock radio. There are similar ones made for the 2003-2008 FX35 if you're willing to spend about $150.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GP5VPT4/
If you're handy with a screwdriver, it's a relatively easy install believe it or not.
It might be worth doing a bit of research because I guess there are different ones depending on if you've got gps or not.
That might be a better long term solution if you're planning on keeping the car for a while longer.

USB Type C to 3.5mm jack are not supported

Is there a possibility with Root, 3.5 mm jack adapters that are not supported by the u12 + anyway to operate on the device? I wanted to test one of Huawei, there came the message "this is not a htc adapter"
I got two generic ones and they work fine. Maybe it is the Huawei adaptor that is not working?
Not sure if I can post links so moderators can remove if so...
This is the one I usually use - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076B2MJKV/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I do not know what it is. I have now ordered the adapter from the Razer phone. I hope that this is recognized. It would be interesting to know if you can change that on the software side, that other adapters will be recognized as well.
what irritated me is that the original HTC adapter is required.
you can only use an USB dongle with a DAC inside. the razer one will work fine, huawei one doesn't has a DAC inside, so this will never work

Not true. You can use the ones without DAC (passive) but you need to use app like "Lesser AudioSwitch" to route sound through adapter. Sound quality is very bad.
Apple USBC audio adapter works with nice sound quality but it hangs phone when inserted, at least my phone. Solution is to reboot phone with adapter inserted.
