Try pinching the screen and back next to the volume up key while pressing it and power to shut down. I had a broken volume up for a long time and this is what I did to enter fastboot and force shutdown.

Phone shut off randomly and wont turn back on Help please.

I've got a brand new device running CM 10 stable. Was downloading something and the phone froze then shut off was still at ~20% battery. Tried to turn phone back on and nothing. Tried to load the boot loader by holding volume down and the power button nothing. Currently plugged into power but no charging light and still not turning on. Holding the power button causes the 3 buttons on the bottom to blink white and then nothing. Any suggestions would b e greatly appreciated.
It will go into boot loader.....you just won't be able to see it on your screen......your going to have to plug into PC and fly blind to run ruu probably......

Plug it in, check adb devices, if its there do adb reboot bootloader.......if its not, hard reset and mimick buttons to go into bootloader..... check fastboot devices........keep trying, you will get it. Once you do relock and ruu.......

Try charging the phone using wall charger (not USB) for several hours, and see if you can power it on.

[Q] Bricked or Something?

Hey guys this is my first time posting.
I've rooted my One X loaded up a ROM (AT&T made sure it was right), was logging into Google, then my phone went black (it's connected to the computer) and it was making a sound like when you plug in a usb drive, then after a few minutes it stopped. The phone is not doing anything, can't turn it off or on. Tried to do a hard reset (volume down + power button for 30 seconds) that did nothing. Tried connecting my phone to Ubuntu and it did nothing. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Matt

Try leaving in wall charger for. A while...did you recently get it wet or any other hardware failure?
Any charge light if you plug it into the wall charger?

That is (mostly) how you get into hboot, not hard reset (is no button combo to reset the phone, per se).
You only need to hold the power button for about 5 seconds. Then release power only, keep holding volume down, and see if the white hboot screen comes up.

I left it plugged in for a few hours and the charge light would not come on, and no hardware failure or was it wet.
Were you using a different companies charger? I've seen people brick from use of diff charger and try holding just power for 30 seconds and see if your key lights blink

The charger is from HTC I've tried holding down the power button for 30 seconds, when I do connect it to the computer it's trying to connect as a HID device but the computer stops trying to install the driver after a few minutes.

No charge light, or any combination of power and or volume button holding is working.
Its not looking so good. If the phone was left on wall charger for a few hours, and no charge light, you are probably screwed. You might look into the unbricking thread in General, since you have a Linux computer.
The fact it went dark after flashing a ROM is suspicious. I wouldn't think it would boot at all if you flashed something that corrupted hboot (like ROM for the international One X). But the timing is awful suspicious. What ROM did you flash?

Good news, I plugged it into the charger and held down the power button, the charge light went to blinking red, then pressed the power button and it went solid. I then was able to get it into bootloader. It was very odd, the batter is at 94%, not sure what was going on, I think it was a bad ROM. I'm going to flash it and see what happens.

This happened to me awhile back. However, I wasn't rooted. I was complete stock. Just left it on the wall charger for an hour, held power button for about 30 econds or so and it deicided it wanted to work again. I was also on 2.20.

[Q] D2G (entire phone) unresponsive after overheat

I borrowed this D2G (stock!!!!!!!!) from a friend while my HTC One is out for a camera module replacement (6/13/13 build date - I had the dreaded Purple low light pictures).
It was working great for 3 or 4 days.
This morning, I opened the Kindle app - as soon as it loaded, the D2G began vibrating and flashing all lights (red and green indicator, keyboard back light and screen buttons) though the screen was completely black.
I had to battery pull because no matter what input I gave, the D2G was doing the above and would not soft reset.
When I reinserted the battery, it began to boot up, I saw the Motorola symbol, but seconds later the same things happened as I described above then the phone became incredibly hot.
I pulled the battery and kept it out of the phone until about an hour ago when I plugged it in here at my office to an A/C charger.
The charging indicator light is on (from PC and from the A/C charger) but the phone is still unresponsive. I cannot hard reboot (volume buttons then power button) - nor is anything lighting up - no green or red led indicator, no keyboard back light, no screen.
Any help?
I would hate to return this to my friend bricked lol.

Maybe bricked, but could be a bad app, battery failure, or even a charger failure.
It is possible if the battery malfunctions, to drain the battery too low, so that the phone's charging software is unable to start.
Sometime when you connect to a wall charger only the green light will come on, that can mean it's too low to show charging but is charging or it means it can not boot at all.
Several things can be tried
Hard reset
safe mode
-
leave connected to wall charger for several hours 6+

if you get no signs of life from those options, maybe time to find a known good charged battery

[Q] help!! device not responding

I have an xt1039, bootloader unlocker, rooted etc. with 4.4.4. it has been shutting down for no reason more often by the day. i went to a technician and he told me that the battery was fast drained, and below zero. i charged it for 2 days, and it functioned normally. then one day it shuts down and doesnt open no matter what i do. the only response i get is when i charge it the white led lights up and stays like that. my computer doesnt recognize it. what do i do?
you hold down Vol Down + Power for 120 seconds
alternative to try: hold down Power for 120 seconds
alternative: put the phone on the charger (not computer but real charger > 500 mA), charge for 5 minutes and hold down the buttons Vol Down + Power for 120 seconds.
---------- Post added at 02:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:47 PM ----------
Also - remove any programs that could drain battery.
I know that my Moto G had battery drain bug also with 4.4.4 (although it shouldn't have with this version) so it can be the bug. But it can also be one of installed programs.

Idol 3 Won't turn on. White led while charged.

For some reason my Idol 3 won't turn on (I've had it for a year). When I went to pick it up I found that the screen wouldn't turn on, even when I plugged it in. There are some threads on this forum that give some information, but im not sure I understand them completely.
1. This thread is the first I found and seems to be the most helpful and it has a link to another thread that has a guide. The problem is I'm having problem following the guide. Primarily the a video linked showing how to open up the idol 3.
2. This This is a post from a user who seems to have been able to open their idol 3, but still can't use the power button. Another user replies that a fastboot will help.
3. This is thread with a user with a similar problem. A senior member towards the bottom suggest the phone is simply dead.
If you can would anyone be able to tell me if any of these are the solutions/answers. If so, can you help me understand what steps to take to resolve my issue. If not, can you tell me whether or not there is a solution?
Have you had issues with the power button beforehand? It could be that the power button has worn down and so the phone works but it isn't getting the signal when you press the button to turn it on.

I haven't had any issues with it not working before. The only problems I've had are the occasional slight delays in how fast the screen would turn off or on. I won't dismiss the possibility of the power button being worn, but how would i know if it is?
Try something simple : keep pressing the power button for at least 15 to 20 seconds. The white LED should turn off. When it does, press again the power button normally, in order to switch the phone back on. That should work, and if it does, then nothing is "dead" and your phone was simply "half-asleep". It's a bug, that might be corrected with a firmware update.
i have the same problem ;/

I have the same problem and it doesnt work for me , LED still light
It worked for me, but please note that I have a 5.5" Idol 3 (model 6045Y). It might be different for the 4.7" version (model 6039).
To clarify, the white led only appears when the phone is connect/pulgged to a power source. Nevertheless, I connected my phone to the computer and when the white led appeared I held the power button for 20 seconds. Unfortunately nothing happened in response. I have the 6045I model if that helps
My sister's idol 3 is doing the same thing but it was water damaged... Did you get it near water? I wanted to see if I could repair it or something, she's been using a blu vivo 5 xl for a few months now with the idol 3 sitting in a drawer.... As I'm typing this my surface has recognized the idol 3 through usb but nothing on screen.... It's vibrating
---------- Post added at 12:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:59 AM ----------
Well I hear the noise that it's connected but nothing pops up and then it vibrates and disconnects...
water
I've had it near water but have never dropped it in water. Over the course of its life its received the occasional drop(s) of water on the screen. Maybe there's hope for your device since your surface at least recognizes it.
had the same problem, your battery is dead
Having this issue, started Sunday. Phone suddenly froze while in use and wouldn't come back on. Phone is dead. Plugged into the wall outlet, screen went black, LED came on and nothing works now. Removed back cover, unplugged the battery, replugged in, nothing.
Running stock ROM, no mods or anything. Stock phone. Bringing to computer store tomorrow, or should I just buy a new battery online for $25 and wing it?
I have the same issue.
My power button slowly failed about 10 months after I bought the phone at release. Sent in for warranty repair and they replaced the main board. Then about 8 months later my sound stopped working which I lived with for a little bit, and now no power.
I have no signs of life other than the white LED on charge and the vibrate when the power button is held. Other than that, nothing.
I'm thinking they gave me a faulty main board, but Alcatel refused to fix it under warranty as the warranty was up. Even though they had just replaced the main board 8 months before, they don't warranty their repair parts.
The power button on mine didn't work properly after about a year of use. I got around the problem using tap to wake and sleep but it's not a real replacement for a physical power button. I stopped using it and went back to an old Samsung s4 for a couple of months.
