[XA2 Ultra] Does this AOKP Pie rom work? - Sony XA2 Ultra Questions & Answers

I bought an XA2 Ultra, and decided to build AOKP pie on it. So I did. When I tried to boot it the first time, I took the attached picture of it booting up. Then it failed to boot. Then I tried to install Lineage pie, which also didn't boot.
At this point, I realized that my firmware was not up to date. I tried to update the firmware and killed my phone.
If anyone had Lineage pie installed, and wanted to test this AOKP pie, I'd be grateful. If Lineage pie works on your phone, then this should too, but it would be nice to get some feedback.

I've built quite a few ROMs before, but this was the first A/B, pie rom I've ever done, and I messed up my phones firmware and can't boot it anymore. Just trying to decide if I should try to pick up another XA2 ultra or move on. If this works I'll probably get another one and make a thread in the proper development forum. Thanks.

Finally fixed my XA2 Ultra, by replacing the motherboard, and flashed this, it boots and goes through the setup screens, but then it fails to compose something on the display. So I'm troubleshooting that.
Code:
05-10 16:56:05.083 605 605 E HWComposer: presentAndGetReleaseFences: present failed for display 0: NotValidated (7)
You can see in the attached pictures. :good:

[Q] Galaxy 10.1 GT-N8010 woes

Hi guys,
After searching for a few days and doing stuff myself (perhaps not everything for the best), I finally get it over with and ask for advice.
I've got a GT-N8010, since long been running an unofficial CM11 build (since one of these CM11 builds, the device was known as a GT-N8013).
Last week I started looking at the unofficial CM12.0 and CM12.1 builds, those looked promising.
After some info, I flashed to the CM12.1 build. A few minutes later, Android 5.1 in all it glory... everything running fine. Saturday evening I noticed I didn't get root.
Without thinking straight, the next morning I started flashing superuser but as you might imaging, that totally f'ed the system.
Now logically, one could just reflash CM12.1 and be done with it .. somehow I skipped all logic and started tinkering in recovery (TWRP).
After some doing, I managed to even F-up TWRP, it wouldn't boot anymore. The TeamWin logo was visible, screen flashed, logo and back.
No worries, there's still the download mode .. yeah about that ... already in panic mode .. doing more harm than good.
So .. Now I'm at this curious state.
I've managed to get it booting to a stock ROM. TWRP is also running.
The weird stuff I'm encountering now:
The device is semi recognized as a GT-N8000, if it was just that, I really don't care.
I said semi, when I want to flash another ROM (even specifically the CM12.1 for GT-N8000) it always states (in ADB Sideload in TWRP) that the package is not for this device.
There's a whole lot of devices listed, then it states "this device is ." , as in blanco device?
Anyone got an idea how to fix it so I can enjoy the Android 5.1 build again? (and seriously, remove the stock rom would be the first priority)
Thanks.

A Couple of Dead Projects

I recently made a terrible mistake in toying with downgrading back to Marshmallow from Nougat which resulted in the sad hard-bricking of my device. The Nougat bootloader somehow allowed stock Marshmallow to boot and when I decided to accept a security OTA, it must have patched the bootloader and didn't notice that the bootloader was the incorrect version. The second that OTA had applied, my poor MXP had died and it never turned back on. So now I'm here to present a couple of things I feel that I should drop off before I leave this device forever because I had a couple of projects in the works that might be cool for you all to check out.
I have one build of Lineage 15 that I slapped together using HashBang173's kernel and device config and the other sources provided by the Android Oreo WIP page. The last time I was able to get it to boot, it had some serious Bluetooth force closing problems, but there were a ton of changes since I last made a new build. I was never able to see any sort of improvement since I couldn't flash and test the build so if you're looking to try out this build, be my guest. Just flash at your own risk as usual and if you do, you will have to erase userdata before you will be able to wipe anything in TWRP again due to some bug that crashes TWRP.
My second build is for a Nougat build of PureNexus. I was getting really antsy while waiting for a build to come in from HashBang that he mentioned that he'd make a while ago, but since that never ended up coming, (as far as I know) I made one myself. I slapped this build together with the PureNexusProject-Mod sources, I haphazardly put together my own device config, and the build succeeded. However, with the same sad result, I was never able to run this build myself and I have it here abandoned. Again, try it at your own risk because I have put no testing into this at all.
I'm very saddened to leave this device because I really loved everything about it, (minus some of the motorola inconveniences along the way) and I put so much into my little device over the past two years. I guess it's about time to move on anyways :crying:
BUT WAIT, there's more. I have been able to revive my Moto X Pure using this thread over here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/help/solved-hard-brick-moto-x-style-xt1572-t3693860
I'm constantly checking the thread to help people who are running into problems. It was a godsend to me so I'm more than willing to help others
Download
I just installed your Lineage 15 build. Bluetooth keeps crashing, and camera doesn't work. I managed to stop bluetooth crash by deleting it from system files. Thanks for your work and I hope to see more from you.

[ROM] LineageOS 14.1 UNOFFICIAL h631

Latest release
Built from whoshotjr2006/touchpro's sources with minimal changes. All credit to original devs.
I'm not going to commit to regular updates but I'll try to do occasional ones.
Recommend using this TWRP (also stolen from touchpro).
Installation:
Enable developer options in stock ROM (tap build number a bunch of times)
Enable 'Advanced Restart' in developer options
Hold power button, select restart, restart to bootloader
Use fastboot to unlock bootloader
Use fastboot to flash TWRP recovery
Reboot to recovery using fastboot command
Wipe everything in TWRP, format data, and factory reset
Push ROM to /sdcard/ and install
Optionally push Gapps and/or LineageSU and install
Boot and enjoy (first start might take a while)
Tested on a T-Mobile LG G Stylo, all seems well.
As far as I can tell, everything is working fine. You should be able to dirty flash if you are using another Lineage 14.1 build but I haven't tested it.
It's awesome to see others making roms for this device again, but do you think you will be able to make a oreo rom though? ?

The LOS14 tree is still getting security updates and will run a lot faster than LOS16. I could build an Oreo ROM but there's little chance of finding the vendor FW needed to get camera, bluetooth, etc working properly.

oh, well that's unfortunate...
So what is different? Just security updates?
This ROM breathed new life into my old MetroPC version of this phone (2GB/16GB)!
I bought this phone two years ago refurbished and carrier-unlocked (other than banned on MPC) off Amazon. Looked brand new. I just installed a new battery last month. Original battery wore out.
ROM works beautifully. Nice to be free of the factory cruft. Also, the TWRP from your OP works much better than the one I had been running. (Neither TWRP reads the current time/date through.)
I had been rooted with SuperSU, now I'm rooted with Magisk. I flashed mini Gapps 7.1.
I have not tested NFC yet.
Thank you for this ROM and your post!
My TMo h631 will not take the image. During the install it will kernel panic and throw an error.
I do factory reset, wipes, formats but still no go.
Anyone knows how I can fix it?
Will this work fine on the LGM631?

SIM Unlocked G920W8, 9.0 and 10.0 ROMs no longer detect SIM.

*SOLVED: see reply*
The ROM I used before was LineageOS [10.0] and used a custom ROM with Android 9 before that. Needed to unlock my phone, and couldn't do that on Lineage, and had troubles flashing firmware with Odin, so I ended up using FrankensteinS6. The Stock kernel seems to let me input the NCK, and unlock the phone. So that's luckily finally over.
For about 4 days now I've been formatting phone and trying again and again. FrankensteinS6 works, some other 6.0/7.0 ROMs work. But LineageOS now enters a bootloop, and Pixel Experience (9.0 and 10.0) and Evolution X 10.0 don't detect the SIM. The ones that don't detect SIM also show no IMEI, which was worrying at first because I though I lost a partition.
Possibly related, the ROM of Pixel Experience Android 10.0 for G920W8 will not install because (paraphrasing) "This device is zeroflte, this file is for zerofltecan, zeroflte***, zeroflte***" claiming that my phone isn't one of those models. I got this S6 from Bell Canada, and I still have even the sticker that says it is a G920W8, not G920F. However, the Pixel Experience ROM for G920F flashes fine (sans the main problem).
I don't know the exact LineageOS ROM I used before, but I've tried all of their 10.0 releases, tried redownloading, and I get the bootloop every time. I see some info online of flashing modem firmware, but... I don't even know where to start with that. As I mentioned at the start, Odin is crapping out. I couldn't flash firmware with it, because it would reject the phone right after I started flashing. Anything I could do within TWRP would be great. I moved it back to FrankensteinS6 for my sanity, I started doing this Sunday and I'm starting to repeat steps over and over hoping that it just solves itself.
I tried to keep this straightforward, and I'm sure I did a bad job. I can extrapolate on what I have attempted. Please tell me what I have to do to get an android 10 ROM working on this old beauty again.
I do not have all the solutions. As per my tests with my SM-G920W8. I have managed to find ROMS and try them out. I have only seen Nougat 7.0 ROMS to work almost flawlessly. NOT 7.1.2, important, 7.0 only.
I have also tested some Pie and v10 ROMS like Pixel Experience. The ROMS boot nicely but since I do not use a SIM card to call as I use SIP phone numbers and require WiFi. But that left asside, I came upon serious camera issues no matter what I try. Up to now, SamStock ROM is pretty much the best Stock ROM I found but I always need to run the Magisk UNINSTALLER before re-installing the latest Magisk version..
As for Kernels, well, Anything that is oriented with Lineage OS, I've had camera issues even with Nougat v7.0. So basically, the only ROMS I found good, as of today, for now, are stock ROMS v7.0. But, to do your tests, Even if you have a 920F ROM, you can download a 920W8 kernel as long as you download a kernel which supports your installed Android version. Also make sure to download the proper Stock or AOSP kernel (AOSP for LineageOS). There's not many but there's a few ones that work properly.
Another option is to download an AOSP ROM that works for W8 phones, unzip the file and grab the boot file inside corresponding to the W8 or T-Mobile version. You simply unzip your real ROM you want top install, replace the boot file for the one you got and rezip it. This made my phone boot properly for some F version ROMS but again, not without issues. That's why, I really suggest v7.0 Srock ROMS. I hope this helps you a bit. Again, you can have your own tests and other users may have other answers, but this is based off over 30 bootloops in my case of trying to mod a ROM for the W8 model. It's not easy to find a good one for Canada, I admit!!!
I flashed TWRP years ago, and I found out that I had a G920F version flashed. I don't know why Lineage allowed me to use SIM before, but rectifying this issue seems to made the SIM work in newer versions.
I don't know what the S6's predisposition to having crashing cameras is, but I have avoided this in the past by using custom camera apps, like Open Camera. This has saved me every time.
As for the boot loops... I think another thing that helped is that "format data" doesn't wipe the OS. When you are in recovery, having issues with bootloops in various ROMs, try advanced wipe, and wipe the system. It didn't fix right away, but the time I got Pixel Experience 10 up and running that was the trick.

Ressurection Remix on A8

Hello everyone,
I am creating this post because I would like to know if someone has already installed Ressurection Remix on a Galaxy A8 ?
I saw some tutorials that are explaining this is possible, but when I go to the Ressurection Remix official download page, I cannot find which file is specific to the galaxy A8. Actually, I have some difficulties to understand the files names : Raphael, Sakura, Jason,... Are theses names code names for différents phones ?
I may add that the bootloader of my phone is unlocked, and I am using TWRP to flash zip files.
I didn't treblelize my phone thought.
If you have some other custom rom suggestions, please do not hesitate to advise me.
You can install RR through GSI, by this link
You will have to trebelize your device
Because it's a gsi android 10, you can use vendor quack
Treble Guide
Vendor Quack
Thanks for your reply. Yes I saw that it was possible to treblelize the phone, to install other rom like the very famous lineage os.
But I am little bit hesitant about this procedure : is everything working well with the phone after a treblelization ? Has anyone tried this method?

Treblizing the phone itself does not cause any problem rather it enables you to install different GSIs. Regarding GSIs, each have there own bugs and you have to find them on the GSI thread if available or if they have telegram or github support.
Hey, just made an account to respond to this as I just discovered there are per-device pages on these forums and saw this post, I have done exactly that and been running it for 2+ years now, so far I have had no majour problems wih it, the only majour caviat is that after trebblimg it and installing resurrection remix It seems to freeze when trying to display the charging animation if the phone is off and it plugged in, it still charges without any problems, tho to boot it when in this situation you need to force shut it down using the volume_down + lock buttons and then immidiately after use volume_up + lock buttons to boot into recovery, then you can boot to the normal system from there, I have a TWRP recovery but I think the stock one also allows to resume booting the normal system.
In these last months I had a few weird bugs like the screen brightness beeing locked to automatic but that went away after a reboot and only happened 1 time.
I also installed magisk and a few other small tweaks and things and everything works great, also all resurrection remix customization options.
Actually in the last few months something broke because the safetynet checks fail for the ctsProfile, (most apps like my banking app tho still work fine by using magisk hide (i think it's because the safetynet basicIntegrity check still succeds) and the update page seems also broken (tho no idea about when this broke exactly as I haven't checked it in years), everything else is still fine tho, I might try re-flashing it to update to the new majour resurrection remix when i have time and the will to backup and move everything, something could have corrupted or maybe an update broke it, no idea.
My phone reports resurrection remix 7.0.2 and Android 9.
Hope this is still helpful.
