Again, problems with Motorola updates? (g7 power) - Moto G7 Power Questions & Answers

I'm still in the patch of December 2018 I find something unfortunate, I think they do not have the desire to fix this failure of the ota's, so they take 3 devices if two can not update and I'm going g5, g6 and g7, just regrettable

Is AMXMX

My G7 Power Update sticks also on December 2018.
Software channel RETEU2

People have complained about this to Motorola on Twitter but they ignore it and give nonsense form replies.

I'm also stuck on December 2018 patch for the xt1955-2...Retla version. Bought the phone on Amazon.

Same here.
Retla Software Channel.
Model: XT1955-2.
Build number: PPO29.80-27
Kernel version: 4.9.112-perf+ #1 Mon Dec 10 12:04:01 CST 2018
Security patch level: Dec 1 2018
I bought this phone on eBay with the understanding that it was compatible with AT&T / cricket wireless. The lack of LTE bands for these carriers has been difficult. I am hopeful that progress will be made on unlocking the needed bands!

the only way I see is to flash a stock ROM more updated as the openmx that is 1 March 2019 is the most current I see

What about "retus"? I would guess that flashing a different stock ROM to this hardware will alter or prevent future OTA since it is rooted, etc?

I did it and if the otes arrive I did it with a moto g 5 in its time and if it updates like any other since it is official it has nothing to do with the channel.

same for me, RETEU2 channel and still on december 2018 patch
im just waiting for a TWRP port at this point, im not expecting garbage Motorola to fix this

Is there a way to switch to a different update channel?
My phone stucks on RETEU2 channel, too.

Well... TBH, we don't know. Moto has given to official word at all, I put the chance of getting an update at around 50/50, but since the Virgin Mobile edition just got 6.0.1 this week, who knows.

Any Verizon Pixel 2 out there received Jan 18 Update?

It is my second month in using this Verizon Pixel 2. I am not using it in the US but rather had a friend bought it from Google Store and had someone brought overseas.
My Pixel 2 doesn't seem to receive the Jan 18 update yet. However, I have heard that despite being Verizon's phone, it still receives OTA directly from Google. Do Verizon's Pixel phones usually receive OTA update later than normal (unlocked) phones? Is there any Verizon's Pixel 2 out there already received Jan 18 update?
Please share. Thank you.
I have a VZW Pixel 2 XL and haven't received the January 2018 update yet. I know there were talks that the "check for updates" button really doesn't do anything right now because a previous update broke it.

Not yet, but you can always flash a kernel with it or sideload.
Not yet. Non-Verizon Pixel 2 with Verizon SIM.
I received the January 5 patch on January 4. Go figure.
I received the update notification on the 5th. Didn't install because I'm rooted.
I got my 5 January security update (presumably the fix for the processor exploit drama) OTA...I did have to get the phone to request the update manually (from Settings), but it found it right away and installed. I'm on Verizon and live in Hawaii...I heard that sometimes location matters. It took a few days for me to get the Android 8.1 update.
Thanks for all the replies.
As of writing this reply, my Pixel 2 still saying that the device is up to date.
For sideloading, I went to Google Developers website and saw 2 variants of Jan 2018 OTA patches.
- 8.1.0 (OPM1.171019.013, Jan 2018)
- 8.1.0 (OPM1.171019.014, Jan 2018, O2/UK only)
which one of these is for Verizon Pixel? I'm not sure because for Sep and Nov patches there are dedicated links for Verizon variant e.g. 8.0.0 (OPD3.170816.023, Nov 2017, Verizon) However, as I went to VZW's website at https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/google-pixel-2-update/ it says that its Jan 2018 patch is now live and the version number is OPM1.171019.013
If so, can I just sideload the 8.1.0 (OPM1.171019.013, Jan 2018) OTA patch? Does Pixel have some kind of fool-proofing to protect itself from flashing the wrong patch?
Thanks!

I just flashed the factory image for 8.1.0 (OPM1.171019.013, Jan 2018) and I'm on Verizon with the phone bought at the Verizon store and an unlocked bootloader. So I think it's safe to say that this is the Verizon version of the patch.

Page one of that thread, my link isn't working right.
Thank you all. I have successfully sideloaded the image 8.1.0 (OPM1.171019.013, Jan 2018) on my VZW Pixel 2. I'm not in the US and never used my Pixel 2 to connect to Verizon's network. I bought VZW version of Pixel 2 just because I like the blue unit. I don't know if I will have to sideload the patch every month from now on.
I have a Verizon Pixel 2 (bought in the Google's pop-up shop in NYC), I'm actually living in Europe, using a different carrier, and I didn't received the Jan 18 update yet.
Usually Verizon phones receive updates later. 8.1 December update was released on December 5th, and I received it like 1 week later

Thanks for the info. I will wait until I get the update next month to see how late the patch would come in February.

My wife got one last week. I don't have details, but it may have been Verizon specific (based on SIM)
Yes, I received an update about a month ago with the March 2019 security patch. I haven't noticed any other changes.
There is another one available but only in lolinet Firmware. This is the version "RETUS_9.0_PPO29.114-108" I don't know if it was pulled or something but any info about it is nowhere to be found. You can Google Search that build version and nothing will come up. I downloaded already but haven't installed yet on my device to see if its a new security patch, it has to be because at this moment we are at March 1 Security Patch and it June.
Okay I updated using the latest firmware available and it's the May 1 Security Update. All is smooth as butter.

Security Patch question

Have anyone received the security of 2020 ? Mine is still at Dec. 2019. My phone is retail unlock. My wife G6 already received Feb. 2020 security patch update.
Thanks,

I tried the upgrade option in LMSA, PPFS29.105-75-4 is the latest available.
Thank you for the link; I installed LMSA and the December 2019 patch was the latest for z4 retail unlock phone.
Motorola isn't showing us Z4 users a very well or warm welcome when it comes to security updates lately.

Figured lol. This is the first carrier phone I've got in years, and now I'm remembering why it wasn't worth saving a few bucks on carrier special, and better to get the retail one. Haha

I learnt that lesson with AT&T. I purchased AT&T specific Moto Z2 force from Lenovo and used it for a couple years. I love the phone. When I switched over to T-Mobile last Christmas, I had hard time to make call and to receive call due to different GSM frequencies used by AT&T. I could only use data to make call via WhatApps. Also, AT&T disabled WiFi calling in my Moto Z2 Force, so that was really bad. I could not get a non carrier specific Moto Z2 Force anymore. That's why I bought Z4 and non-carrier specific. It works for AT&T and T-Mobile without any problem + WiFi calling too !
I just got the September 2020 security patch tonight (10/14/2020).

Unlocked version and stil in march security patch, anyone else?

Just got May 1st one
1980-3 amazon variant here and I just got the May 1st security patch. QPFS30.130-15-11-3 is the build number for my phone. Yeah with an S. QPFS
Yeeeaaahhh, May security patch is downloading! I manually checked for updates just to see what will happen and then it popped up...
Almost in August and motorola send to us the May Security patch, why allways the patches goes with two months delay?????
Got July Security Patch this night. I am with retail version.
Received 2 updates in a month, 1st update was for April security patch and then last night (August 6th) was July security patch. My is retail version.
I eventually update mine to Android 10
It's July patch
I have gotten the July 1, 2020 security patch. I can't recall if it was last week or the week before that, or even before that. I just know that I haven't had an issue with not getting the updates. My phone was purchased unlocked directly from Motorola, so I don't know how much that has to do with it.
